Maud & vivre:  Thanks for the info...always looking for ways to improve my health!  I was on another thread (conv) and read a post from a woman advising another that was going through chemo to eat all white foods like mashed potatoes, bread, etc.  I was cringing because I know how it all converts to sugar and what a bad choice that would be, but said nothing.  I think maybe I should PM this lady because I hate to see her make bad food choices when she's trying to fight recurrence.

I have had absolutely no problem losing weight and keeping it off after going on the gluten free, or as I call it, rabbit food plan, and my stomach which has always been my biggest problem just melted away...I couldn't believe it.  I always said "oh, I'll have to get lipo if I want to get rid of my stomach because of having four kids".....not true.  This will be my sixth month on the program and I'm doing great.  I've had some adjustments with going on the tamoxifen, but I think the diet and supplementation program have helped with the SE's.  I can actually tie the hot flashes to trigger foods that are high in sugar...like a glass of champagne that I treated myself to the other night.  It was good, but the hot flashes I had all night were not!  Now I have choices that I can control.

I think if we all met for hot green tea and wheatberries we would have a wonderful time.  These are the ties that bind.

I somehow missed the posts by MBJ and will be going back to read so I will know her life and trials better.

Dog is pouting because I added chard stems, celery, blueberries and apple to his holistic dog food, too bad so sad it's not steak but that gives him the runs for some reason.

This morning Hubby is on days, I will be on bc.o for a time, reading.  Trying to get a handle on the true signs of bc from thosse who have been there.  I will begin a thread soon, will post link here.

Deanna, that was a wonderful post. So thought-provoking. I've been mulling, too, about the relationships we build here. Who we really connect to and why. And how would this connection be in real-time. Over my tenure on this board I have lost many "friends", and though each is painful, some affect me more than others. That's okay.

I admire the women here who form the really deep bonds and gather with one another on a regular basis. And really get to know each other. It's special.

Anyway, MJB was a special lady. I admired her spunk, her curious nature, and the smile on her avatar. It's yet another sad example of how despite our best efforts at treatment--ANY treatment--breast cancer is a villian that will kill some of us. And that just sucks.

Maud:  Maybe she is taking a much needed vacation.  I'm going to be doing that in mid April so don't worry if I'm not on the boards for a couple of weeks.

If anyone is interested, I have a private forum on my website that will enable us to share information that we would not want in a more public domain like this. It will be a great way to foster friendships and support each other in different ways. PM if you want links. It will be by invite only, so only those who have access will be able to read anything. It would have been nice to have been able to share more with MJB and send her flowers when she became ill. I am hoping this forum will enable us to do things like that for each other.

Essa, blueberries and apples are okay for dogs, so is banana, green beans and carrots....BUT, broccoli, other cruciferous goodies, chard and celery are in a gray zone. It is not clear whether these are safe for dogs. Like onions and garlic which are a known danger to dogs, eating these other veggies regularly may cause some thyroid problems; they might even lead to horrible auto immune diseases like hemolytic anemia. The jury is still out on this one, but to be safe, no celery and no chard; easy on the broccoli and other cruciferous too! You mentioned that steak gives him the runs....make sure it is very lean (a lot of fat can cause the runs, hard on the pancreas) with no seasoning. A few pieces at a time is not too much.

Hello friends, I'm back from the brain MRI - could not stop the tears all day - was very lucky though the tech was the nicest one ever ever.  For the IV, she had me lie down...warmed my vein with towel soaked in hot water....she was so kind - I felt bad because she started crying as I was leaving and said that she goes to the chapel at noon and that she would say a prayer for me. As I sit here, I wonder if she knows something I don't...Frown

    Maud -

I made all the techs cry and even the radiologists in all cases.  Course, I did have the bc but you know that my latest scans were fine, so they were crying for the cry of it, chins up lady.  She might have just said that because of your bc and that you are so frightened, so right, don't over think it and stress please - HUGS

Hugzz back to my lovely lovely sisters

I try real hard not to think Yell but I don't think I'm gonna be able to sleep well until I get the darn results

Like I said to another sister, we really ought to give ourselves a big pat on the back you know, we are the strongest, the bravest and the most courageous and we should give ourselves a break and a nice treat once in a while.  After the hospital, I went window shopping .... and got a few tops on sale.  Now, I feel better !

Yes, a little retail therapy is better for me than a visit with a psychologist...and after parting with my money, at least I have something to show for it:)

I look at my bc dx this way...it is what it is and I can't change that.  What I can change is my reaction to it and how I handle myself going forward.  I need to be in a good place so that I can make good decisions about my tx.  I do get upset and stressed sometimes, but I don't allow myself to stay in that place for any length of time.  I move on.  It sounds like you've done the same thing Maud, and that's good.

I've lost so much weight that I've had to replace almost all of my clothes...so shopping has become a necessity for me of late...bring it on!!!  I don't even have to feel guilty about spending the money:)

    Maud,

I am certain you pulled her heartstrings when she saw you in tears. I know the techs, hospital staff, nurses feel our fears. I had a nurse in my dermotologists office well up in tears.  When I walked in, she thought I was going to ask for a cosmetic procedure. When I told her that I was a working mother of 3, Dx'd with BC, and with a suspicious mole on my breast, she almost broke down.

I hope you had fun on your shopping spree.... I think shopping is one of the best stress relievers there is!! I love to shop, and wish I could do it more often.  Tongue out

Kaara, that's how I'm trying to justify the expense the day after....live with no regrets !!  also wish I could do it more often Marianna Tongue out

You mention fear.  I have seen fear so often in women's eyes when they ask me questions about BC. We live in fear but so does every other woman without a dx

Yeah Kaara, hugs little sister Smile What a relief, coast is clear for you !!

The kind tech asked me if I wanted the results urgent, I told her not really, I would rather the doctor take all the time in the world to give me accurate results, she said brain MRI results are very long to read. Now I'm thinking radiation detox and drinking loads of water and taking chorella.

I'll have to enquire about thermography and how much it costs.

Mine cost $195 but I've heard up to $250 in some areas.

Thanks Kaara, that is less expansive than I had imagined.  I pay $300 to have my own BS do the ultrasound - he doesn't come cheap....are you doing thermography and mammo on a six-month rotating basis ?

How do you find a reputable therography?  Can ultrasound replace mamo?

    Maud, what is chorela?

truebff, thermography has a number of applications.  I believe it's important for my breast health to receive thermography services from someone specifically trained to provide breast thermography.  My provider recommends the first 2 sessions be 3 months apart to establish a baseline.  From there, once a year is standard.  I'm getting my second annual therm next month.

Truebff, according to my BS, an ultrasound does not replace mammo, I wish it did.  He absolutely insists on mammo and I hate it, but have too, I guess Cry

Chorella is one of the algae and detoxes heavy metals.  If you get it, make sure you get premium, 100% pure - bio-cultured as in

I got my thermography from my naturopath's office.  The have a room set up for it.  I't important that the person doing the thermography has been certified so that it is done correctly.  I feel much better knowing I got the all clear and there was no radiation involved.  My next one is in six months, but will have my mammo in between.  I don't think US will replace mammo, because in my case, my tumor wouldn't even show up on US, just on the mammo.
