Here is an interesting article from Ralph Moss regarding the effectiveness of everyday mushrooms as aromatose inhibitors...

Meg, my heart was aching for you after reading your post, its such a double edged sword.....people DO mean well, they don't know what we know, so its like Anom said, its up to us to get this out there, but bless their hearts, collecting money for BC research, you can't really be mad at that, just the big industries that should know better......I myself did the Susan B Komen walk and collected $1,000, I had the money in my hands and wanted really badly not to send it, then I felt guilty as I would hate to think Susan B Komen was not using the money for research, anyhoo, my point is, I think I will do my own walk to raise money for alternative medicine research or something like that, it will make me feel better........sad to say, but I have always felt that way about donating to charities, I have never thought the money reaches where it needs to go, talk about jaded!!

Wow, I haven't checked this thread for a while and my sensories are over th top! I love the campaign slogan - seriously, it is genious. I too have been preyed upon w/ th overthetop marketing, but as Ivory said above, it was from a nice place and people just don't know any better. I got a gift in the mail from my sister of pink buttercream cookies that are about 97% sugar and I have a mountain of them. It reminds me of that damn red campaign that target and the gap did prior to my dx and now I see pink everywhere. Im surprised Gap didn't put on their windows Red+ White = Pink ugggrrrrrr
I have a friend who does sales for a large hotel chain, maybe she can donate some rooms? She is cool and would wear a t-shirt proudly! Im still fired up and need to do some protesting or Im gonna burst at the boob seams - count me in!

Seaottter-You know I would welcome you guys into my house, but I am in the burbs and we need to be in the city. We can have a march down Michigan Ave and then another one in front of Harpo.
PS-Let me know if you find a hotel connection. I plan to invite lots of people. If everyone else does too, we could have a big turnout. This is not just for survivors, but for those who want to stay cancer free. I also plan to get a lot of speakers. I already have a couple lined up. Prevention Convention here we come!

Deni-I was reading your post about the mushrooms just after I made a dinner of sauteed mushrooms, onions and green pepper. My DH had some left over lasagna from going out the night before, so I only had to cook for me! He won't touch a mushroom so I get the whole box to myself!

Viv - Oh that is great suck in all those anticancer effects!! I was a little unsure about mushrooms for a while because I had the whole "cancer is a fungus" theme poking at me from the back of my mind. But, my ND prescribed Maitake extract and I keep hearing positive, protective things about mushrooms, like that article - so I am back on the mushrooms!
The Prevention Convention sounds great. I wish I could say that I will be there but with everything going on with my family at present, I just don't know what February will bring, plus our finances are stretched to the limit. I will try my best. If I am not there in person, I will certainly be there in spirit!
Did anyone happen to see Suzanne Somers on the Today Show this morning? It was horrendous. They treated her terribly. Anne Curry didn't let her get two words out of her mouth and then the segment was over. I sent in an email complaining, not that it will do anything but just to get in my two cents. If you missed it, I'm sure it will be posted on their site or on You Tube. I was really frustrated and upset for her. I'm sure she was not happy with the interview either! I hope a lot of people complain.

Suzanne Somers will be on Larry King for the hour tonight. They are advertising that she will talk about her recent "nightmare." Some of the docs in her book are supposed to be on the show too.
Larry King wants email questions for Suzanne!

I'm going to cross-post this as a new thread. Please let everybody know.

Deni ~ Thanks for telling us about the Suzanne Somers interview. I just caught it on the Today website, which also has a couple of pages from her new book. Interesting to me on more than one level -- like I wonder if the ER visit where she was mis-dx'd with "full body cancer" (interesting term) was in LA or the desert (where she has a home and I also live). I'm curious where that nightmare took place. And I agree with you about Ann Curry. She was obviously given an adjenda to get out. Kudoos to SS for the ladylike way she handled such a ridiculous ambush.

vivre, do you know what weekend yet? I have job training in Feb. The sooner I know what weekend you are planning then I can adjust my work schedule. I'm sure praying for a no blizzard weekend!!

I will def ask her and hope her upper mgmt says yes!
Yah! Prevention convention here we come

Seaotter-as soon as I can get some hotel availability I will let everyone know. Mardi Gras is the third Tuesday, I think? (Flat Tuesday) Also we have Valentine's weekend, so we need to work around that. Hey, the first weekend is my birthday. Maybe I will just throw myself a party! LOL And do not fear. One year the crocus was blooming on my birthday. You just never know around here.
Anom-Thanks for the heads up on SS on Larry King. At least he will let her talk. As for the Today Show, I quit the propaganda stations long ago. Every interview they do has an agenda. It does not surprise me that they will try to destroy SS. Now how could we get HER to come to our convention. Boy would that be great! I do plan to have a doc talk about hormonal balance. I would love to get Dr. Brownstein too to talk about iodine, but I know I am dreaming on that one. I do not want to have to pay anyone to speak because I do not want to have to charge anyone to come. I want everyone to come and only have to pay for their room and food. If anyone has connections, let me know.

Dr Northrup has a good article on thermography this week:
All this BCAM is telling women to get mammos when they should be getting therms.

Does anyone have advice for me about water filters? I am open to a whole house filter, a sink filter...any kind really or multiple kinds if need be. I want to filter out the obvious things like chlorine, but I also want to filter out flouride. Is there anything in the water that I don't want to filter out? Like are there good minerals in it at all? I know there can be estrogens in it but doubt that has been addressed by the filter manufacturers. I just read about that somewhere. Thanks for any help from any of you knowledgeable people out there!!!

Luna, when I was checking into whole house filters I got so confused and they were way to expensive for us. The only advice I can give you is make sure it says filters out chlorine AND fluoride. A lot of them said only chlorine. I think Deanna has a reverse osmosis whole house filter in her house. Maybe she will be of some help. It does take out the good minerals as well. Good Luck!!!
Was it you that I was talking to about birds??? If so I finally got Alex and Me and loving it
Patty

No, it wasn't me about the birds. But, I googled the book and will keep it in mind for a Christmas for someone who I think would like it very much! Thanks!

Luna5 ~ We have the undersink version of this water filter by Aquasana.
http://www.aquasanastore.com/aq-water-filter.html
http://www.aquasanastore.com/aqs-150.html
My DH had researched it when we did some kitchen remodelling (pre-bc, so I probably wasn't quite as interested as I would be now), and he felt it was the best one in the under $200 price range. It's very convenient, and the water tastes great. You have to change the filter cartridge about every 6 mos. Deanna

We are also in the process of trying to choose a filter. Part of the process involves getting a water test if you are on well water - or getting a copy of the water tests from your town if you are on city water. That way, you know better what to target.
One thing that has been weird - so many filter bodies out there are plastic. With all the recent
insight about chemicals leaching out of plastics, we decided to opt for a metal housing, even though it will be a bit more expensive.
Our water is well and it needs a lot- so we will have opted for 2 stages - a whole house filter
for particulate and then an under sink model for just our potable water.

CBS Morning show this morning said you can PREVENT breast cancer (reduce your risk by 40%) by:
- staying lean (keeping fat off your body - it produces estrogen)
- plant based diet
- Exercise 30 min+ a day
- Limit alchohol (they said one a day, ridiculous, but still)
Vivre, I love "PREVENTION CONVENTION" !!!!

Springtime: I just saw a thread in the Recipes Forum that got my hackles up, and you might be interested in it, too.
The name of thread is called.... Alcohol...2005 study for women.
The thing that is burning me up -
A site called wine spectator advertised a published study from Austrailia that contradicted advice to avoid alcohol. They found drinking in moderation, as long as you also eat greens, reduces chances of breast cancer!.
I'm not sure which pisses me off more - the fact that I could've been enjoying a glass of wine all this time without fear - or that WINE Spectator seems to be the only one to have brought this study to light.... It really has me doubting mainstream health info sources in the west who seem to IGNORE even "published" studies that dare to challenge their assumptions?!?

Hi all,
I noticed the frustration some of you are expressing about all the pink being highlighted this month. It's EVERYWHERE!!!! I had to laugh, tho, when I opened the bag holding my just-filled tamoxifen prescription to find that the pharmacy decided to put a pink cap on the bottle instead of the usual white. Trust me--since I happen to be taking tamoxifen, I'm aware, already.....

I just ordered a supply of DIM and tocotrienols. I read that up to 200 mg/day for the tocotrienols is what one should take for cancer prevention, but who knows what the dose is for DIM. Also, does anyone take both of these? Anyone forgo traditional hormonal therapy to take either of these?

What do you guys think? I was inspired by the concept and started to play around with it for fun. Just a thought for t-shirts...

Cool deni!
Vivre-I am totally down for the convention! When and where? I am so sick of the pink bandwagon for the senseless, money grabbing 'medical community'!!!
A good shower filter is one made by Sprite. The high volume one works great, I just bought one. I also have been buying alkalinized water at the 'Water Brewery' near my house. It has a pH of 8.5-9.0.

Deni-THAT IS FANTASTIC! Our official logo! Now if I can just get this techie to come through with my website. It is so frustrating. I have gone through 3 already and they just give up on me.
Makingway- I am thinking of Chicago in Feb. I know it will be tough for all you CA girls, but we survivors are tough. Besides, I need to get it started where I have the connections. I have several docs who I think will be great speakers, no quacks, just common sense. Next year, I vote for CA! As soon as I check out hotel dates, I will let you all know and we can start spreading the word.

Hi Robyn! I take 400mg of DIM per day I also do a dropper of the tocotrienols I have to check how much it is, I think only 40mg. I decided not to start tamox.
Deni! AWESOME logo!! yay! You are fabulous to take the time to do that!
Got an email from my producer connection today, she has put the word out to see who is willing to do a story on our mission, her exact words were "I think you are all amazing and beautiful"! So fingers crossed!

Question, ANOM? I need someone to give me a clear concise mission statement, so that when I do speak to anyone in the media, I don't start rambling! So something that gets straight to the point and peaks their interest!
Thank you in advance!

Fairy-just make sure you don't go telling those stories from the progesterone thread! We do not want to see you with PINK cheeks! I know you English gals are prone to that.

I am one of those English girls who is not the typically coloring! I never blush, thank goodness!!!0

Glad you guys like it. Do you think there is a problem using the pink ribbon - even though it is upside down? I don't know if there are any sort of copyright implications. Does anyone know if this would cause a problem. I can always replace it with a similar pink ribbon that would still get the point across.
0 -
Hi all,
It seems to me that I read a few weeks ago that there was an entity that was using the pink ribbon emblem and had gotten "in trouble." My chemo brain isn't remembering the details. I think you are right, deni63, to check into that.
