32 years old...no rhyme or reason... But you are now 42 I presume, and taking care of business... Good luck to you for the surgery!

Hi All. Back in the USA. Just want to say a quick thanks for all your words of support and encouragement. It really helps.
Safe travels, Betsy. I'm sure it will be good to be home.
Spring and others with daughters - I, too, worry about it constantly. My daughter is 26, and I know she has dense breasts based on the pathology from her breast reduction 5 years ago. What to do? . . . She's out of the country, and on her visa, the NHS is unlikely to be too excited about doing an MRI on a 26 year old. They don't even do routine mammograms until starting at age 50, and my daughter had to DEMAND that her gyn do a breast exam (she does tell me she also does her self breast exam monthly). The female doc told her it "wasn't necessary" and with a big sigh, did a very perfunctory 20 second exam. I did have my daughter go to a local breast specialist for an exam when she was home a couple of months ago, after that incident at her gyn. But even the local doc wasn't too concerned about anything. Wonder what she will advise for HER daughter??

How long is second stage surgery recovery?
0 -
Hi Semper - I had 4 stage 2s (I was a fixer upper from another PS though - I was scared to travel out of state and I paid the price with a messed up result)
It depends on what is done. Going in and having a procedure where both sides are lifted/revised and then also moving the abdominal incision and also mucking about with plication and lipo makes the recovery more like 3-4 weeks. This was the most painful revision (but plication is AWESOME! yay flat tummy!). The ones I had where it was just a lift and maybe a bit of lipo, cakewalk.
You will be in phenominal hands though. I don't believe there is anyone else in the world who could have done what Dr DellaCroce and the team did for me. I am truly restored.
Best wishes!

Amy Amy Amy, welcome back to the USA!!! When do you leave for NOLA? You are one travling woman!

I was 21 and pregnant when I was dx. The first doc I saw told me it was mastitis and I was 'too young for breast cancer, so don't worry about it.'.
Who is going to be in NOLA for the reunion? I'm trying to figure it out. My hubby got a promotion, YAY!, but because of it can't take leave for the rest of the year, BOO!. Nordy and I may room together! How fun!! We should get a yoga class going!!

Wow Vinnie! So will you be working with Donn? I have a tat set up end of October.
Celtic Antique - I love the knitting needle in the ear image. I think I agree with you!!!
All of u with daughters - Boy our worries never get to end, do they? I have a 27-year-old daughter. Of course I had bc and so did my husband's mother - so it's on both sides. Add that to the fact that she had multiple lung x-rays right after birth and several times over the course of her 2-week hospitalization (she aspirated meconium at birth, was in grave condition). I'm so scared for her, but don't want to alarm her. I reminded her of the x-rays, telling her it does increase her risk even over my having had bc. And yes, the dense beasts just like her mom.
Marsha - thanks for the tip about 5-day into menses BSE. I've heard that, but forgot. I am going to pass it on to her and start bugging her about it. Maybe you helped save yet another woman's life today...You Rock!

Oh Vinnie - I would LOVE a touch up while I am there... if you are there! Otherwise, I will wait until you come west!!!
And yes, would love to room with you Trishia! Still trying to figure out my life... LOL

PS - Mom2four - I bumped up Laughlines' and my pictures on the forum. Somewhere on there I ran across an inquiry from you about hip flaps. We are both out a ways, so I thought it would be good for you to see. Hope you are feeling well.

Springtime - Yes, I am a traveling fool this year!!! I actually flew home from Buffalo in late July after having taken the train and driven up there for some family stuff and a reunion. I thought it would be a good idea to give the lung a 'test ride' on a couple of short flights. The docs had given me the go-ahead. I thought that if I was going to have a problem, it was better to have it on a short flight where we could land soon, than on a 7 or 8 hour flight over the Atlantic. Anyway, all the flights were uneventful, thank God. Leaving Sunday for NOLA . . . Barely time to do laundry and re-pack. But I think it is better this way - less time to think about it.
Betsy - So you are in the outside world again! Well,at least the hotel. How are you feeling today? Are you noticing much of the smoke still? We are landing on Sunday and heading out to Lafayette or thereabouts to soak up a bit of Cajun culture. I wonder if we will have a lot of issues with air quality? As a former New Orleans resident, do you have any suggestions for some other things to see/do out Lafayette-way? We will have a couple of days of road-tripping before we are back in NOLA on Tuesday afternoon. I am taking all your restaurant suggestions for NOLA with me.
Vinnie! I am so happy that you will now be an official part of the NOLA team! Especially since after having met you in July, there was no way I was letting anyone but you do my tattoos. Do you know what your schedule in NOLA will be? I think that will always be my husbands first choice! Now I feel like I have 2 options - go to Baltimore, or go back to NOLA. And either way, I get to have you! Unless of course you want to make a trip down to Raleigh or the beach?!

One more thing as I am thinking about this - NOLA bringing Vinnie on board to do the tats is just one more example of the docs and the Center's commitment to providing nothing but the best possible care.
Not that there was any doubt about that anyway.

kaitsmom... I know I will be there for a few day starting Sept 13th ... then again in October and each month to follow. And of course good ole Carroll County Maryland during most of the month. Somehow it seem NOLA is a far more exciting place to get tattooed then Carroll County... but it is nice out here in the country. If you call the center they will be able to get you on the books..... thx... vinnie

Sheri, YES!! I will let you know!!
So are there any ladies here, besides Sheri and Trisha, who are planning on being in NOLA on or around Oct 22nd? I am not going, and I believe Sandy said she is not going. I will leave it up on the list above if there is a group who is still considering it!!! Let me know....
For me, this will be my first Fall/Winter without surgery looming since 2008!!! It feels good to be DONE! Though I will go to Vinnie when my tats need to be redone, for sure!!

Coming to NOLA October 1, pre-op on the 3rd and surgery on the 4th. Stage 1 BPM and DIEP with Dr. S. Met him at the FORCE conference last year. I am coming from a long ways away but going to NOLA seems so much calmer than the 13-18 hours, 2-day surgery, intensive-care unit recovery I was promised here. Now that school has started, I am in full-blown preparation mode. Going wild this month, like nesting when you are pregnant. Cleaning, making lists, organizing, shopping, making food. I am also on the discussion boards like crazy. I can't get enough information, advice, preparation. I have to admit I am a very sensitive person and the talk of the drains for over a month and girdles for several months has me feeling very squeamish. I expect the depression to hit me hard as I don't do well being out of a routine and uncomfortable. Still, it's better to hear everything I can from all of you so that it doesn't hit me unexpected anyway. I see one other person doing surgery the same week as me. I will be at St. Charles and then on the Homewood Suites until Oct. 13. Thank you all for giving me community!
