I am not Catholic, but I do pray and I know that they work.  Many of us are living proof of that.

Laura, Sorry...I was mostly blabbing....but let me try again. And this might be for someone who has taken catechism recently.  The images, artwork  that to me are just very....Catholic and I love......why is it acceptable in our faith?  Not sure there is a factual answer..AND, personalli I ask why not!......But, I guess I present it like this because it does come up.....from friends who ask and I'm never sure what to say......the question was posed by a protestant in our class.  I guess most protestants ....do not have the corpus on the cross....they might have stained glass windows but you know- no saints, no praying to or asking for intercession from the dead.....I guess his answer for why it is NOT ok stemmed from soemthing in Dt OR the whole interpretation of the first commandment by protestant faiths...or by the devil's advocate?  sorry-early mornign rambling!  I may have answered my own question!

Laura I do know what you mean too about life stopping...or being stuck!  Congratulations!

quote from St. Ambrose of Milan:  " The devil;'s snare doesn't catch you unless you're already nibbling on the devil's bait"  From Daily Catholic Bible

AND St Ambrose IS the Saint from year in faith and art!

Ambrose was born between 337 and 339 at Trier, Germany, into a Christian family.  Ambrose studied at Rome and  became a brilliant lawyer.  Nominated bishop of Milan by acclamation in 374, he was baptized and consecrated in a week.  he battled the Arian heresy and completed important liturgical and pastoral reforms in the diocese of Milan.  His cult spread immediately after his death, in Milan in 397.  protector of bees, beekeepers, and those who work w/ wax.  patron St. of Milan.  "Ambrose' is of greek origin and means 'immortal'.

On that note.  I will be headed to the home of the 'Saints'  tomorrow!  And will probably try for immaculate conception service at Either Old St. Patrick's or St. Louis Cathedral.

Love and prayers for all of us, Peregrine and Agatha please intercede!

And thanks so much for all the love prayers and support ladies!

ps. Laura I think I found the 2-3 lbs you lost...BUT, the good news is it will probably be recycled very soon!

    Jennifer,

As best as I can explain "intercession" is that first, in order to be declared a saint the person must have had several miracles performed in their name after their death. This gives the Church reason to belive they are in God's presence and favor. The whole process for achieving sainthood is involved but often the candidate had a special interest or connection in this life that is transferred to the miracles after their death. That's how saints become connected with special intentions.

As to why we have statues or pictures, they are to remind us of the people...they are not the idols of paganism. We do not place special powers on particular statues of saints (that's idolatry), but we may feel more connected to that saint when we pray to them if we have a physical reminder of them in our presence, either through a statue or a picture. Focused prayer is more powerful prayer, and these things help us stay focused.

    That's how I explain it.

Nancy, THANK YOU!  Very well said!

Jeannine, please feel the love and prayers headed your way.  I hope and pray you feel as liberated as I did.  Don't like the idea of life w/o breasts but LOVE the idea of more life w/o the anxiety of keeping ducts and lobules.

Better get moving.  Leave in 3 hours for Love field- I'm not packed!

St. Peregrine and St. Agatha work for you!  Love and prayers to all of us!

    Big Easy here I come!

    Jennifer

I am praying hard for yiu today. Safe travel and good healing.

Another thought on graven images. Some people carry that so far as to say no photos. The Amish and there may be more) The images in Chuch are reminders. Statues. Stations of the Cross, and  stained glas widows were all a way to tell the story in a day when people did not read.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception (the conception of Mary, not Jesus).. 9 months later in the church calendar, oddly (it really has nothing to do with the Immnaculate Conception)  we celebrate the Feast of  the Annunciation (the conception of Jesus) .. and 9 months after that, Christmas.

    Catholics are good at math.

    Prayers for all.

It is funny how so many people think that the conception of Jesus is the Immaculate Conception. However good Catholics know it is the conception of Mary the Mother of Jesus without original sin.

    Prayers for all in need.

    rosemary-B Thanks!  so much!

You know our group in CBS said the SAME thing......we were theorizing that had to be part of it as there were SOooo many people who did NOT read or write....and the oral tradition is one way but visuals had to have been another biggie!

Arrived safely.....I am so fortunate....It's almost like we get up in the air and then we start descending...1 hour and 3 or 7 minutes?  and it's 8 hours to drive?  go figure!  pre ops appts tomorrow.  No immac conception mass today(this eve) at St Louis at least but they had a concert...it was gospel...I lasted thru 3 songs...It was a city of NO christmas thing...I think I'm just tired...So glad I came early.  It is SOoooo nice to have time to relax!

    Goodnight!
