Statistically 9 or 10 is the same result well within the error limits allowed for the test. I don't know if CA 27-29 is one of those that is tested when labs get a Medicare review unlike something like a CBC that is almost universally common on doc visits. Things like that and common chem tests are on there.

NM would be better to answer this but I'm not sure CA 27-29 rarely measures zero.

Messy houses - oh my. Not even going there. We live in the country so no trick or treating. The local churches including mine do Fall Festival or "trunk or treat". The fire station even gets in on it.

well, the plan is in place. I saw the first surgeon and feel he made a lot of sense in why he is recommending the open surgery. So I will have surgery on Dec 5th, removing the cyst with a margin of pancreas, the gallbladder and spleen. I received three vaccines today because of the splenectomy. I love your cover comment Eli One day you are in a field, just minding your own business...then, one scary day, you get carved up. At least you are not alone.image

Happy Holloween! My DH and I dressed up like zombies to pass out Candy.....and after two hours with only 4-6 kids, hopped in the car and made mobile trick or treat stops looking for kids out. It was fun...but also kind of sad with how few kids go out anymore.....and only 20-30% of the houses looked lit up to give out treats. I remember when almost everyone on the block welcomed the trick or treaters.....

Info on the CA 27-29 tumor marker test:

Reference range (normal results) = less than 38 U/mL, with some slight variation depending on the lab.

Interpretation:CA 27-29 is elevated by a number of benign conditions, so an elevated results needs to be correlated to the patient's medical history and physical examination.Non-cancer things that elevate this test result include

    Chronic hepatitis

    Liver cirrhosis

    Tuberculosis

    Sarcoidosis

    Benign breast disease

    Pelvic inflammatory disease[2]

    Endometriosis

    Ovarian cysts

    Systemic lupus erythematosus[3]

    Lactation and pregnancy

    Pasted from <http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/2087535-overview#aw2aab6b3>

The Ca 27-29 will also increase briefly a few weeks after staring cancer therapy. Not all breast cancers produce CA 27-29.

A 9 result is definitely a "negative" result!

    Thanks for that info. NM.

chachamom, The point is that you had a good communication with that surgeon, so now you know why he is preferring one procedure over another. I am a fan of laparoscopic, but we have to be flexible if there is a convincing argument to go for the open surgery Sorry you do have to lose the gallbladder. However, if it was a case of losing it eventually then this saves you a future surgery by doing all of the naughty organs at the same time. My mom did just fine without a gallbladder for over 10 years. I never heard even a peep from her that she missed it, or that something did not feel the same.

And, chach, if you think I am sympathetic to the plight of the pumpkin, wait til you hear me rhapsodize about the poor Thanksgiving turkey! Talk about getting your breast meat carved up!!!

My best friend with Stage IV B/C shared some good news with me yesterday. That her CA27/29 continues to fall. Last mo, after some bone radiation, her number dropped by half, down to 137. Now she has been on Tamox. for a month and she got down to 51. We don't know how much is the Tamox. and how much is the leftover rads, but we'll take it! In light of our recent comments, she is getting very close to what is "normal" range. Those of you that remember Marybe's story, may remember that she was able to remain stable for years just only on Tamoxifen. This is what I am hoping for my friend (who's mets are confined to just bone.)

Halloween commentary: I only get about half the Trick or Treaters that I used to get. My neighborhood is getting older, plus it was wet out and people here go to a mall (sissys) or do "trunk or treat" at their churches (aberrant practice) or lately, go into one hyper-decorated neighborhood that is really festive (can't blame them, when some other blocks have only 4-5 houses participating.) It funny, how a holiday that used to be so kid-centric is turning into one of our more adult driven holidays complete with scads of store bought decorations. ("Why, when I was a kid..." all we had was a jack-o-lantern, a pillowcase, and maybe a few wet Fall leaves on the ground, and an abundance of parent-free joy running thru' the neighborhood.) Last night, almost every group had 2-4 parents out with them. Probably a good change, tho', with so many perved-up news reports in recent years.

Dia de Los Muertos is not a "happy" kind of holiday, but who can't appreciate a cool sugar skull?

Welcome geewhiz and myers. Glad to have you both aboard the middies train.

I too am in the country and no trick or treaters. However DS decided to give the dog a treat and bring her into the house (she is an outside dog). He then tied a towel around her neck and she became "Super Pup!" Gotta work with what ya got right? BTW - what is "trunk or treat?"

Chacha - so glad that you were able to further discuss your options and are comfortable with your decision. Will be nestled in your pocket on the 5th of Dec.

Chacha, You should have kept driving North. I had to shut the lights out by 7:50 because I'd run out of candy due to the 225 trick or treaters who had come to our door. That didn't count the repeaters which I recognized and sent back on their way.

They do trunk or treat in an older commercial neighborhood here. People decorate their cars up and then park up and down the street. Children trick or treat at the cars. (All supervised well by law inforcement.)

I think one of the other churches does trunk or treat because their rec. hall is not big enough for large crowds.

PT visit was interesting. Says clavicle/shoulder very tight - is that a technical term? Has me icing 2x/day and doing shoulder pendulums. Also rowing with an elastic band wrapped around door handle (or in my case through a door hinge). Says it should not take long to get it better. Have 2 visits sched. for next week.

Yay - DH's truck is finally ready at dealer. Will pick up tomorrow.

Chacha - glad you've made a decision you're happy with. GB's are expendable and certainly better to get it out now if it needs to come out sooner or later anyway. Remind me as time gets closer for big time pocket partay.

very quiet halloween here. The guy next door put holiday lights on his truck which is parked beside his house so I can see it out my sliding door off my deck so I thought it was for trunk and treat, but they are still lit today. ????

chacha, process here anytime, we all need other ears and brains to get through all this stuff. I am glad you have made a plan that you are "comfortable" with.

My 98 year old aunt is receiving an award for volunteerism today. So quite a bit of family is in town and we will get together tonight to celebrate. It should be fun. She is still so sharp and mobile. I find it hard to keep up with her sometimes. She is incredibly supportive, though, she is one that says a positive attitude is so important, which does not sit well with me some days. (lol) Her son has survived multiple myeloma and is here. He and I were very close while helping my sister at the end of her journey so it is always good to get together. I appreciate seeing family so much these days.

happy Saturday (or Sunday) last day of daylight savings time!

I'm with you Loral. I don't know why we can't leave well enough alone and just go with the flow regarding the time of day. I pretty much go into hibernation mode.

Well, the TV time is changed, the computer time is changed. Got to change the living room clock, the coffee pot clock, the microwave clock, the bedroom clock radio, the watch. . . . . .

I set some back last night but see DH did not set back the wall clock I cannot reach. My car is the one that mystifies me. I always have to drag out the owner's manual to do it. That and the answering machine. The coffee pot clock is always wrong. We used to have regular power outages just randomly. Now that seems to be random water outages.

Took myself shopping yesterday and exhaustipated myself. I totally stole that from another thread. I was grateful for the extra hour of sleep b4 church but really stayed up that extra hour anyway. But I know how hard it is to drive home now in the dark. It was always hard to explain to DD that despite the fact

DH got his truck back and it seems as good as new. Actually they put a better grill over the radiator. He drives the back roads home and a couple of sections have the worst bugs that almost try to gum up his radiator.

Dianarose- Congrats! I'm assuming that your fiance' is your new (old) interest, and that your boyfriend of many years with 3/4 a foot out the door was kicked to the curb! Quite a silver lining to your experience in recent years. Your ring(s?) are beautiful! I hope that your life partnering with your new husband will be just as gorgeous!

Dianarose, WOW! Thanks for sharing your happy news with us. Congratulations! I take that to mean the "old friend/new boyfriend" also. He must have had a lot of woo going for him!!! What a lovely ring, too. Valentine's Day is coming up so quick...is it because of the baby? (K.I.D.D.I.N.G.) We will anxiously await all your news and seeing your bridal dress, not to mention THE CAKE. It goes without saying that you will have a fabulous cake. BTW, I am doing more than o.k.---I feel real good (except for the stupid numb feet.)

Good thing I looked on here, I had already forgotten the time change. Duh!

    Congratualations!, What a beautiful ring!

Wow, NativeMainer....THANKS for the tm data. I will be happy with the 9 then.

Elimar, I LOVE those pics. I teach PSR, which is Sunday school...and let me qualify that by saying NOONE ELSE WOULD DO IT, so I got roped in. I keep watching for lightning strikes, lol. Anyway...last Sunday I talked about Dia de Los Muertos and Halloween being All Hallows' Eve. I said we celebrate those who have passed on, and had the kids say prayers for someone special that passed. They really loved it.

Yes, old boyfriend got kicked to the curb. He has wanted nothing to do with me most of the time since my surgery over 1 1/2 yrs ago. I can't wait to go with my friend Debbie (we met during radiation) to shop for a dress. I have lost the dam chemo weight and got my girlie figure back. life is good!!!

Eli- sounds like a little chemo brain going on with the time change. Well, that's the excuse use.

I am having a lot of pain on my rib cage where one of the drain tubes was. Even though it has been a long time I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am getting worried that it could be something else.

Dianarose - what happy news! I think most of us can identify with the fantasy of the old boy friend who "might have been". That is too cool and big congratulations - to both of you! My rib cage on the side I had radiation is still sore to the touch (most of the time) almost 3 years out. Does it happen to be your radiated side that is hurting?

luv - I hope your shoulder gets straightened out quickly. What do they think caused it?

elimar - I hope it is the Tamoxifen working for your friend and I hope it works for a loooong time.

chacha - glad to hear you are getting somewhere with the plans for the upcoming surgery. That helps settle the old nerves.

mac - I hope you had a good time visiting with your family. What a cool aunt you have!

BTW: My new avatar is from Disneyland's California Screamin rollercoaster. I've ALWAYS been terrified of rollercoasters and would NEVER ride them. My son (in the front seat with his GF) said, "Mom, you've faced cancer....this is nothing!"....LOL! He was right and I rode for the FIRST time! Also the "Tower of Terror", a drop ride. I screamed the WHOLE time.....but its funny that the pictures look like I'm very calm! LOL!

Wow Dianarose. What a beautiful ring and sounds like a great guy to go with it. Now don't go baking it in a croissant, OK.

HNS - truthfully I've had trouble with R shoulder for years but MO thinks rads may have worsened it even though it was on the other side. I've been a good girl and done most of my exercises today. Need to repeat them all and ice it down again. Hope there is something decent on TV.

And I agree with HNS. All the upper ribs on my rads side hurt if I poke on them even pretty gently (I know old joke - then don't poke on them!). Someone else would have to speak to drains. I have a spot from my C section 26 years ago that still hurts if I poke on it so I don't.

  • Dianarose
    Dianarose Member Posts: 1,951

Heartnsoul-both sides have been radiated, but the side that hurts was radiated in 2005. That is the side that had the drain tube that went from almost as high as my arm pit and down and up the middle. I was wondering if it could be some scar tissue or at least hoping that is what it is.

Eph- speaking of pastries. I had a big order for my tripple chocolate moose cookies that were overnighted to NY and then went to Austrailia. I made some PMS pizza this week. The crust is made with chocolate cookie dough and then peanut butter and melted chocolate for the sauce. Topped with all kinds of pieces of different candy bars, M&M's etc.... Then coconut for the cheese. I didn't try it though. I want to fit in a wedding dress.
