    Hi frugalgirl - sorry that you are having to go through the nightmare again. You have found a wonderful group of women who will laugh with you, cry with you, dance with you, hold your hand and be with you whenever you need us to be. There is lots of wisdom here so don't be afraid to ask any questions that may arise. There is bound to be someone who has experienced a similar situation. Keep us posted on how you are doing and feel free to brag about that wee grandson anytime you like!

    New here, trying to figure out this new unfortunate journey. 44 years old, kids all out of the house, recently remarried and now this. Stupid question, but I'm confused by all your abbreviations: DH, DD, D, tx, dx, etc. Anyone have the key? Happy

    on the left hand side,, you will see a blue box that says Help with Abbrevations.   Hopefully that will explain it.  But here are a few,,,,

    DD = dear daughter

    DH= dear husband

    DX = diagnosis

    TX = treatment

    MX = mastectomy

    Glennie19 you just made things so much easier! Thanks! I consider myself a reasonably intelligent woman and was frustrated by my lack of understanding !

    createdonpurpose - Although it really sucks to have to greet another new member to bco I welcome you to the land of the middies. You will find lots of great support, encouragement and even fun here.

    One more abbreviation that you might see on a regular basis is PP which is Pocket Party. Whenever someone is anxious about an appointment, is having surgery, scans, chemo or just needs some support we all jump into her pocket so she doesn't have to go it alone. Of course virtual drinks and treats are calorie free so we load up on those to help keep our energy up.

    Hi my friends, I have not been here in so long. My hubby and I went to Tennessee for a couple weeks in November. We did the whole Christmas thing and left again 2 days later. We drove out to California to see three of our kids and grand kids then went to Denver for the. Western stock show. We had so much fun. We did some casino hopping all the way home. Hubby even won 1000.00 on a slot machine. I have been trying to focus on living and blocking out the dying part. I feel great other than some age things. Will have the tumor marker test again next month and go from there. My hair is getting really long. It appears I am going to be keeping the kinky curls which I have gotten used to. Did find out that I am allergic to food starch. Really limits what I can eat. I do cheat though. We have so much dam snow here in Maine and it is so cold. It was in the 70's when we left Denver. We should have stayed another month. We were gone for 6 weeks and we really missed our horses. We even missed the 15 yr old son. LoL

    I hope everyone is hanging in there and living each good moment to it's fullest. Love you all!

    Diana

    What a wonderful trip, Diana! Good for you! You are coming home to the biggest snow of the season so far though. Mud season should be phenomenal!

    nativemaine- they are predicting in feet again for Sundays Blizzard. Where the hell are we going to put it? We already have a tunnel from the house to the car. We came home way to soon.

    I don't know where this batch is going to go. The good thing is the banks are so high against the house that it's acting as insulation. BUT, getting in and out is a real job!

    Dianarose -

    As you were already in Denver for their Stock Show, you should have swung up to the Black Hills for our Stock Show which was Jan 29 - Feb 8. We also have a very 'quaint' gambling town in the area - the infamous Deadwood, SD. (We just voted in Nov to raise the bet limits there. Personally I just play the penny slots so I can make a little last a long time when we go up for the weekend.) It is still the Old West/Gold town it was in look and feel but is very modern in accommodations. The historic hotels have a bit less in the way of having pools, etc. but I like the ambiance of the old buildings(Bullock, Franklin, Gold Dust).Hubby likes Holiday Inn Express as it is a totally new building that was built where a building had burned years ago. Tin Lizzies also has a pool and I think Mineral Palace does too but not sure as have never stayed there. All of these are in 'downtown' Deadwood and you can easily walk anywhere. First Gold and Cadilac Jacks are further and wbile can be walked is a bit further and not a well lighted walk at night. When weather allows, there are 'gun fights' on Main St. Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial are within an hours drive. Crazy Horse Memorial has 2 Volksmarches a year - first weekend in June and late Sept where you can actually walk/hike up to and stand on the arm of the carving.

    Hi Frugalgirl,

    Glad you found this site. I don't post much but I check in at least 2 or 3 times a week. I'm a two-timer. Diagnosed the 2nd time 9 years after initial diagnosis. Recurrence in same side as original mastectomy. There are a lot more things they can do now than previously. I'm 3 years post the 2nd time. Hang in there - you can make it through this again!

    As soon as I say that we have a night that it is going to have a wind chill in the 20's! Today was windy and cold, I don't think it got to 60! Nerdy cold for us!!

    I'm going to Daytona this weekend for the 500....not my thing, but the hubster loves it. Going to be about 80 on Sunday. blah, too hot.

    HomeMom - are you a Disney World fan? My daughters love it...my oldest, who is now 21, wrote on a wishing star in Kindergarten that she wanted to go to Disney World! We've gone a few times and hope to go this year, but now she may have a conflict with when we were planning on going. My husband is a race fan as well. He will definitely be watching this weekend, too! Hope you end up having fun. I went to one race and, it wasn't that fun to me

    Eph & Loral - I know many women our age that suddenly find themselves looking for work. It really pisses me off. They can hire the younger women all they want, but we boomers know that we are better workers and we won't be leaving after they train us to start a family.

    I've had some friends sign up for the temps (like Kelly or specialized temp agencies for your profession) and they got job offers. The company is really "auditioning" potential employees. My brother prefers to work as a temporary (or consultant, as he calls it...). They almost always offer him a job, but he always says "no thanks" because he makes more money per hour as a temp. He'll take 6-month to 1-year assignments and then he'll take some time off (he's a project manager in IT). I hope something positive comes up soon!

    Every 6 months I change this around, but I would MUCH rather be hot than cold! Remind me I said this In August... Loopy

    Disney World is a Magical place! Though it was a total zoo the day it opened, my boyfriend at the time took me. (I'm from Punta Gorda.) Can't begin to remember how many times I've been there since then. Unfortunately haven't been there since '91while the Boys and I were back 'home' while Hubby was deployed to the Persian Gulf for Desert Storm.

    HNS - love the "snow hen" - We had hens up until about October last year. They were lots of fun to have around and the fresh eggs were amazing.

    Well, at the risk of going "up the creek" again  - I finally stopped procrastinating and completed the poop test. 3 different days, two samples each day. I was so glad when it was done and quite eager to get it in the mail and out of the house. So I packaged it all up and sent it off the first chance I got. Later that day I was gathering up all of the instructions etc and noticed that the request form from the doctor was still on my kitchen table! "CRAP!" (censored) My first thought was "I am NOT doing this again" So I called my dr and was told that the lab would call once they received the kit and a copy of the request would be sent. PHEW! Crisis averted.

    barsco - that would have been the end of it for me! I hope they never ask me for one of those tests - I would say, please can I just do the colonoscopy?

    Hmm... auto-correct changed your name to harsco. What kind of a word is that? Now it's just making up stuff!

    lol HNS -  Google provides info on just about everything.

    From Wikipedia - Harsco Corporation is a diversified, worldwide industrial company based in the United States. Harsco operates in 35 countries and employs approximately 12,300 people worldwide. The company provides industrial services and engineered products that serve some of the world’s largest and most essential industries, including steel, railways, and energy. The 2013 revenues totaled $2.8 billion, 60% of which were generated internationally. Harsco is headquartered in Camp Hill, a suburb of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

    I can only wish I had that kind of revenue!
