Well ladies, I have outlived my treadmill. It died last week. Could be fixed but more practical to get a new machine.

I have been walking outside in our neighborhood. I am on the HOA Board and have seen stuff that needs to be done! Like painting mailboxes and post lamps.

It has been cold and rainy in North Alabama and I did miss a few days of walking.

HD and I decided on an elliptical machine. This way I can better use my arms without fearing a fall.

It arrives Friday! I still plan to get outside more and walk. I think the fresh air does me well.

New to this board but not new to BC. I was diagnosed with BC nineteen years ago and now find myself back into the cancer world. Yesterday I had a biopsy that didn't look very encouraging and Friday I see the surgeon. I am a cyclist riding 2000 to 3000 miles a year. I credit the cycling for getting me through my previous fight with cancer. I did a weeklong bike tour during my chemo and even went mountain biking. My oncologist was okay with me doing these crazy things, but she did tell me that if I fell and was injured to get to the doctor immediately and have them call her... grin... Two decades ago the benefits of exercise during cancer treatment were not as well known. It is wonderful to see the improvements today in cancer treatment. (although I would rather not experience these improvements close up! LOL

It is great to see all of you ladies out being active. Take care and keep up the active life style!

So funny, ruthbru, my grandmother grew up on a farm in Ardoch, North Dakota. i used to hear stories about the snowstorms. My parents, their siblings and my grandparents - all from Duluth and northern North Dakota - moved to Miami, land of perpetual summers. That's where I grew up and never really experienced winter until I moved to NYC.

I swam a glorious mile today.

After all that pro exercise encouragement I went to Zumba last night for first time since chemo started on Feb 15. Had lots of fun!

Welcome back, DancingElizabeth. Love the new username!

    Yea for swimming and dancing!

I went to Zumba and Bone Builders this morning. Since this afternoon it's sunny and 40, I snatched up the puppies and met my friend and her dog for a walk in the park. I am also thinking about POUND tonight (DH has a dinner meeting AND I need to drop some happy vacationing and sad funeral going pounds.....plus I love that class.)

Welcome to all the new posters!

Getting ready to head out for my run! Have 4 miles on the schedule for today. This is getting so old...sick of wearing winter and cold weather running gear. Like Ruth we have a high of 40 * today and it feels like a heat wave which should be a heat wave in Feb not April. We haven't even seen 50* yet this spring!. They are forecasting another snow storm for this weekend and I had plans to go on a girls weekend to the Minneapolis area. I am afraid that will be cancelled. So very over this winter! Sorry so cranky!

On a more positive note I had a cut and color last night. I had my gal take it up pretty short in back and above ears. She cut off some of the curl that is driving me crazy. Still pretty curly on top but this is more manageable. I have always kept my hair fairly short and so this isn't a huge change. Itsbinba cute pixie cut right now. Just waiting for that curl to grow out and my front and top to grow longer. Please tell me the curl does grow out!!

Ruthbru, yes, I live in Nebraska and we have prairie dogs on our land. Today was one of the few nice days we have had lately. We had snow flurries yesterday and snow is predicted for this weekend, but today it warmed up and the sun came out. I went to yoga this morning and then headed out for a 28 milebike ride this afternoon. It was windy but it felt great to be outside. The cycling helps to settle my mind and come to terms with my upcoming appointment with the surgeon.

Nice walk around the park by the school I'm at on T,Th, but no walk after work. Its sandal weather....near 70 today and high 70s tomorrow....by Friday back down to the 40s and 50s. Mountains might get snow. We do need the moisture, so rain wouldn't be so bad.

DD#2 left this morning...she flew to Dulles and now on her way to Brussels then to Tel Aviv. I miss her already. It was great to have her here, even if I had to share her with her friends!!! Quiet house again. And much cooking!!

Found my fitbit....I need to contact them as the band doesn't stay on....I've been carrying it in my pocket and I probably forget to take it out of my pocket and it fell out...I moved a small box on the floor and heard something drop and low and behold there was my fitbit....Staying up to wait for DD#2 to tell me she landed from her 2nd leg of the flight....

Welcome to all the new ladies!

Yikes about all the snow! Like Karen, we had great weather today. I push mowed for 75 minutes in 65 degrees with a blue sky overhead and no humidity! I hardly sweated compared to summer mowing. Enjoying it now before the heat and humidity set in.

Karen, maybe you just need a new band for your fitbit. You can get aftermarket bands on Amazon pretty inexpensively.

DS#2 has been here for the past week and leaves today. It is always great to see him, and a little sad to see him leave since he lives in London. We have been doing some sightseeing things with him, so getting my steps in. Woke up this morning to 27 degrees and frost on everything. A little snow flurries yesterday. So ready for spring, nothing gets me more motivated to exercise than trying on summer clothes :)

Welcome to all the new ladies. Karen glad you found your Fitbit, nothing worse than losing one of those darned things. I can't complain about the weather it's like summer here and we really haven't had winter but I miss winter, I know I'd be singing a different song if I lived elsewhere.

Finally made it to the gym last night for my Sprint class although I will admit I took it very easy as I did not feel 100% just slowly recovering and took the dog for a lovely long walk before work this morning.

Woke up late, JUMPED out of bed when I realized it was my DH’s birthday and wasn’t prepared AT ALL. Ran around kitchen waving hands over head after realizing I had to bake and decorate a cake for him before I could shop for his gift. Used whisk like a hurricane for cake and frosting...yeah great arm workout. Burned through shower and getting dressed. Ran back to kitchen before cake burned. Got to mall and power walked 700 miles trying to find ideal gift. Bounced up and down waiting to pay for gift because I had to pee so bad. Got home, RAN to bathroom. Power wrapped gift and frosted cake. Ran around kitchen again waving hands in the air after realizing i had no candles for cake...another trip out and another power dash around store. Ran in door and placed candles on cake with strong stretching movements. Another waving hands over head session after realizing I had to start making his favourite meal. Chopped, sliced and mixed with fury! Was feeling the burn! Collapsed on couch.

Sad thing is.....one slice of that cake after dinner is going to far outweigh my madwoman workout in calories!

    Still gonna eat it!

    Happy Egads!!!

Karen, I don't like the snaps on the band that came with my Alta (too easy unsnap) so bought a 'normal' band with the buckles from Aomazon and it always stays on now.

The Wednesday Walking Women (my retired teachers group) walked indoors again this morning, after which one of the ladies invited us over for a cozy breakfast by her fireplace (since it is apparently still winter). I then helped some friends, who are downsizing, move a bunch of bins into a storage unit and I will go to Dance Attack tonight.

took a long walk around the neighborhood yesterday...then today, I ran into a neighbor who is also a friend, who told me that she saw me walking and I no longer have the limp I had before knee replacement: she said, 'OMG, you were really walking!' :-)

Had PT today. Last sessions Friday and Monday. They really gave me a workout today....

Welcome to all the newbies. Jus popped in to say we had some Spring today, There is hope after all! Walked at lunch 28 minutes.

Enjoyed the link on cancer and exercise, Heidi. I fasted during chemo so now I am wondering if fasting is better or exercise. Exercise might have been easier-well maybe not.

DD#2 arrived home safely. Wanted to call Mom to tell her, as I always did and it made for a hard day.

Ruth, I bought a pkg of different colored bands and it’s not the band but one of the ends of the Fitbit is all wonky. None of the bands will go all the way on, one the one side.

Super tired, but my learning objective is due tonight, so I best get busy and finish it.

Welcome, Ladyanne, I am not a good one to ask about weight loss because I have lost the same 10 pounds about a million times! But I know that exercise will help you look and feel better, and give you a better non-reoccurance rate, no matter what you weigh. Burning off some of the calories through exercise and following any sensible diet plan consistantly (the hard part for me), will help you drop the pounds.

Ladyannne - count carbs more than calories, eat real food not processed, cut sugar out, move throughout the day at a steady pace and get yourself a consistent exercise regime happening that includes strength training 2-3 times per week (start VERY light on the weights and build) mixed with daily light/moderate cardio. It worked for me, 56 lbs down in 9 months, excellent blood labs, increased muscle mass and feel awesome.

Ladyannne Welcome to the club you never wanted to be in.

I an down 53 pounds from my pre diagnosis weight and DH is down 85.

Egads007 summed up a great approach to weight loss and getting healthy. We eat REAL food in our home and my labs are great also.

Not everyone has severe side effects on AIs. Look for forums were things are working well for women. Sure I have SEs from Arimidex and knowing it is the right drug for me to keep my cancers away I take it with joyful and open mind.

I met with a new Oncologist yesterday. He said research show exercise can keep cancer from returning. He cited a small percent study and still express his desire for me to continue to exercise.

    Best wishes.

    Welcome Ladyanne!

Great advice from everyone so far. I have lost 5 pounds of the 80 or so I need to.lose. I find thinking about the massive chunk of weight I need to lose very overwhelming. I take it in one week chunks. Plan EVERYTHING! plan meals, plan grocery shopping, plan exercise. When I don't want to exercise and eat processed or high carb/sugar foods, I just remind myself that cancer LOVE sugar (and the sugars that carbs break down into) and HATES exercise!

A good friend just started weight watchers, maybe that is a plan that may be helpful?

I always tell my clients "just do something ". If you have 10 minutes to walk, go out your front door for 5 mijutes, walk, turn and walk back. If you repeat that multiple times in a day you can build up to 30 or more minutes a day.

I also had 2 different breast cancers and endometrial cancer all diagnosed within weeks of each other and I am just starting my way back to health.

You can do this. We have a long healthy life to live!

Welcome to Everyone New to Let's Post our Daily Exercise thread. Wonderful to read of the weight loss of Ruth and coachvicky. Cheryl, slow and easy and how is the beach weather..fog in the mornings or clear blue coastal beauty? Wonderland we are gearing up for mowing season to start. 2FUN, you go girl!

Exercise does indeed help keep recurrence at bay and these recent reports make the claim: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/315970.php and http://blog.dana-farber.org/insight/2018/02/can-exercise-reduce-risk-cancer-recurrence/ What I experience in working in cancer rehab is that asking women to reduce BMI can seem like a step too far for some, especially those grappling with coming to terms with a bc diagnosis, PTSD, reconstruction issues. We here are preaching to the choir and I do have people in bc treatment or after, who come reluctantly to workout, hating each moment in doing so and drop out. It's so important to find some physical activity that you enjoy, be it walking, running, yoga, Pilates, HIIT, combat, pump, dancing, heck anything that moves your body for a specific amount of time, even if only 10 minutes a day. Dieting is tricky and a fortune is to be made if someone wrote a book on how to successfully lose weight on Al. One woman I know, swears by Weight Watchers. I lost 20lbs before my second diep revision by following the advice given by Ruth and using a app to count exercise and calorie expenditure. It's sticking with trying to see what works best for you.

I delivered the new BodyBalance release for the second time last night and much better for me than Monday night. Not sure what I think of it and it seems to be getting mixed reviews from the participants. One problem is that the studio is also the spin studio and the floor is beyond gross and this release is on/off mats. So we are mats turning before the core tracks to stay off the wood floor and swapped to bonus track#5. I need to practice my yoga adjustments and wish I had you nearby Falconer, yet extra time is being spent on refining #80. Hopefully by next week all will smooth out. This Saturday I'm spending the day with other Pink Ribbon Pilates members in front of the local Marks & Spencer Foodhall, for a bucket collection with proceeds going to http://breastcancernow.org/ that is research is focused on four key areas – risk and prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment and secondary breast cancer. Anyway, DH off this am for a cat scan and my annual mammo results came back and all is tickety-boo for healthy right breast. Let's keep at it!
