Hello and welcome, PatsyKB . Sorry about your diagnosis, but I like your spirit! It may be a bit easier for you, since you have so many resources already in place. I got my diagnosis in January and stepped up my exercise and nutrition right away. I think it helped, at least gave me a sense of having some control.
Also, hello Ladyanne2579 . Have you tried the online sites like sparkpeople.com or www.myfitnesspal.com ? I find that the trackers on sparkpeople helps me plan my diet and exercise. Also, I've been checking out eatingwell.com which has nice recipes and menu plans. These websites are all free.
I put in another 1 mile swim today. Thanks to everyone for the closing pool condolences. Unfortunately, swimming is not as convenient as walking or running. Someone told me today that our pool may not close to us after all. The public outcry and letters to elected officials may have worked. Not counting on it though.
Have a nice weekend!

Congratulations, DancingElizabeth! Losing weight is hard to do under the best of circumstances, so you've really accomplished a lot.

I didn't get home in time for class, but we did come home in a new car so it was worth the trip! I did a 45 minute toning DVD and danced with Marshall Fitness on Utube until I made my 10,000 steps.

New car! Luckyyyyy! What kind did you get

DH had a very old (and quite beat up) car, so we have been talking about trading it in for awhile. When we were in Arizona a couple weeks ago, we rented a Hyundai Elantra and really liked it; on the small side, but very comfortable for two, with a nice ride, and great gas mileage.....pretty much what we were looking for. So we did some research after we got home and that is what we ended up buying. It will be DH's 'baby' since I 'got' the last new car.

proud of all you guys. I fell off the wagon so to speak. Trying to address the triggers and get back on.

Ruth love the new car!!
Have 5 on the schedule this morning. .then off to bingo and lunch, shopping, pedis with sisters in law. We were supposed to head out of town yesterday to celebrate one of my SILs birthdays. Stormy weather in Minneapolis prevented us from going. It will be a fun day but am still bummed we couldn't go. April 14th and there is snow storms! Phewy!!
I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible calf cramp. Could it be Tamoxifen? Going to go spend some time on foam roller before my run.. It's still sore.

Good morning everyone and welcome to all the new and returning posters!
Need to get back into my gymrat routine. Lost the "mo" (momentum) during all the troubles with mom. Seeing onc for a six-month follow-up in a couple weeks and he will ask about exercise. I want to be truthful so need to get back at it!
Another winter storm is rolling through so will get up to see mom this morning before the snow hits this afternoon.

Runner- a few times when I was on the Tamoxifen I woke up like someone had just yanked my right leg! It sat me straight up! It only hapend maybe 3 times. I noticed that it was the days that I had not drank enough water. It alway seems if I drank 60oz or more of water I had not problems with the leg cramps. I also mixed a little Gatorade in with my water after dinner. Hope you don' have to deal with anymore of those cramps!
Welcome to the new girls. I post when I can. I have 6 grandchildren and there's is always atleast 1 here..(and I love it!) This week I got 106,000 steps for my "work week hussle". I have added a arm weight workout. I think I over did it. I have LE and that side hurt and kept me up one night. I need to give myself a break and do the arm workout everyother day.
Thank you much for all the posting. LB- you are a super highway oF information! Ruth- would love to know what app you use to track your diet.
I am officially back to my weight on the day of surgery. I have lost 6 pounds. I have been on Anastrozole for 3 weeks and have a big decrease in my appetite. Which is a very good thing. I was always so hungry! I all of a sudden am satisfied with Greek yogurt and salads. A pickle totally takes care of the salty crunchy chip craving that was wrecking my day!
Have a beautiful day to you amazing ladies!
I'm actually going to a women's banquet tonight! It's a fund raiser for a group that helps homeless (and somewhat hopeless) women on our area. A group of church houses the women for a week at a time in an area of their church (like a gym or large banquet room) they offer new clothing, classes, medical care, 3 meals a day and counseling. Most of the women have been victims of some sort of abuse. It's call Room at the Inn. Excited to start getting out! I also had lunch with a dear friend who has had BC 3 times! She was my support through this journey! Ruth love the color of DH new car!

I guess I learned what muscles I had not been using when on the treadmill as opposed to getting on the elliptical yesterday. Ouch

Vargadoll, I think you should take it easy (so just for once I could beat you in our fitbit steps challenge ). Loseit.com is the diet ap I was talking about. It's free and works very well (if you use it, which I should be doing!).
Runners, bananas and tonic water both can work to prevent leg cramps (and if the tonic doesn't work, add some gin and you are guaranteed to feel better...lol).
I see they have canceled the class I planned on attending. Maybe I will go over to the fitness center anyway and walk around the track. I did DVDs yesterday so don't really feel like doing them again today.

Patoo, nice to see you. But we Northern girls don't really want to hear you complaining about your 82 deg pool lol! Glad you are getting in more exercise. I need to start getting more myself, so easy to fall off the wagon.
Egads, just lifting that chainsaw is execise
Nice car Ruth! Love the color.
Runnermum, I would get terrible calf cramps at night when I was on tamoxifen. I was on it for 2 years, then switched to arimidex which I am still on (my onc believes in 7 years of an AI). Cramps went away once I got off tamoxifen.
Beautiful spring morning here, but the storm is coming, chance of sleet tomorrow. Hope to get out for a nice walk before the temperature drops today.

I didn't know about the tonic water! Good to know should I ever get them again. Thanks for the app info Ruth. I truly feel like I need to lose about 20 pounds. I had thyroid surgery in 2010 and gained 10 pounds and never got it off. Then life got busy with a big move, 2 unexpected deaths and I gained 15 more. I was just starting to lose when I got the BC diagnosis. I'm ready to take charge! My windshield is bigger than my rear view mirror for a reason!

Oh...Most of my steps are housework! I would gladly let someone else take them....hahaha. Seriously, 15,000+ steps are done in my bedroom slippers!

Happiness on this dismal and wet day is a large pot of Chicken Paprikash! I am reheating, as well as roasting up some veggies to keep things toasty around here. I did a ride with a friend earlier, and amazingly missed the rain. It was just lovely, but clearly snowing in the mountains. Got back to the car just as things were taking a turn for the worse.
Hoping it's a bit drier for the Daffodil ride tomorrow. Planning on 40 miles. It's a ways from here so off early and a change of clothes as having dinner with friends as well as planning a visit to the rhododendron garden in Federal Way.
Your new ride looks just fab, Ruth! Great going, LilacBlue!
On the way back from the ride, my friend and I stopped at a local grocery, and we both bought local carrots in 3 colors. I also stocked up the fridge with meats, as the butcher there gets really great items at better than supermarket prices. One of the things I got for a song is pork sausage with cranberries and walnuts, made locally, that I haven't had for a while. Not to mention the fabulous steaks.
We also stopped at a local farm and I got to talk to the ladies who produce the eggs. There was one dozen left so I am in eggs again. I made a mushroom omelet for lunch.
I'm about to swoon from the aroma around here, so had better check dinner. Happy Sunday everyone! - Claire

The wind died down, the sun was out, and the temps climbed to into the 70s, so DH and I did an energetic up and downhill almost-3 mile walk and it was exactly what I needed! If I wander aimlessly about the house for awhile, I may add enough steps to get to 10,000 but if not, hey, I had a great walk!

This tune was written by Tony Rice, inspired by his small long-haired dog named Tipper running at the speed of Mach One along the water's edge in Florida. It makes me smile to know that when I hear it. Enjoy!

Lilac, you all look great, and very spring-like!
Fun song Badger, I can see in my mind my little dog friends bounding along the water (or bounding through the snow......which is more like it this year).

LadyAnn, wt loss is very hard, different approaches work for different people and most regain after losing.
Here is my approach ( not necessarily for you, jus an example):
1. I have lost 28 lb so far in the last six months since my breast bx showing BC. I am chronically on prednisone 5-10mg a day for musculoskeletal inflammation and autoimmune problems ( higher doses in the past) which had led to a 50 lb weight gain and muscle mass loss over several years, difficulty with exercize from pain, weakness, and shortness of breath, and being hungry from prednisone.
2. A combination of stress related to BC dx, forcing more walking despite my musculoskeletal pain by using newly prescribed pain meds to allow me to control my pain better (Ultram, well-tolerated) and a diet between 1000-1200 calories per day along with prescribed off label use of metformin for appetite control (I am not diabetic and have good kidney and liver function) has allowed me to drop my BMI out of the overweight class of 29 down to 24, high normal. I have a slow progression of wt loss with periodic plateaus based on just under 500 cal negative per day from my low maintenance baseline, with periodic breaks for a holiday or social occasion where I just treat myself and eat nice things.
I want to lose 12-15 more lb. and then hold it there ( keeping just a little fat padding in case of hospitalization so I do not become underweight and break down muscle if not eating well there, which has worse prognosis).
3. I am pretty sure my Arimidex has also lowered my appetite a bit ( that or fear of BC progressing more if I remained mostly sessile and overweight 😳)
4. Here is my typical diet on a day off , like yesterday ( I like fruits but am not keen on most veggies as they make me feel too full, unless it is corn or carrots soaked in butter, so I still need to work on more veggies). I struggle to keep my protein intake at least at the women's recommended 40gm and ideally 45gm per day, because other than dairy products and peanut butter, protein nauseates me). I do not deprive myself of sweets or wine, just have less than before. I am not convinced sucralose is toxic and I have a sweet tooth so I use it as a sweetener ( controversy on this).
early morning: cup of Glenn Oaks fruit Kefir, 150 calories, 10 grams protein
Black Rifle Coffee strong coffee with generous half and half, splenda, 50 cal — wonderful!
mid morning: a pink grapefruit with Splenda, 150 cal
lunchtime: piece of low fat e.g.,( string or swiss ) cheese, 80 cal and 10 grams protein, half an apple, 50 cal
late afternoon: medium avocado with salt, 230 calories
late dinner: half a small homemade cheeseburger on half a wheat bun with lettuce, onion, ketchup, seasonings, 20 grams protein, estimated 250 cal
a chocolate mint cookie, 80 cal
half a glass rose wine 60 cal
late night, watching TV: diet strawberry jello, 0 calories.
Other Beverages: sparkling water, two cans diet Orange soda ( sucralose sweetened) , 0 cal
vitamins and supplements: multivitamin, C 500mg, D3 to keep level between 40 and 60, calcium in amounts divided through the day when combined with dietary to provide between 1.2-1.5 grams elemental calcium and magnesium elemental 250mg (I have osteoporosis, am also on rxd Prolia), super B complex (in case I missed a spot on grain intake, and for hair and skin) senna for constipation from my pain meds
for appetite control (and also has known cardiovascular benefits) : metformin 2000mg extended release with morning food per day
exercize: pedometer showed that between housework and neighborhood walk, I walked 2 miles ( too dizzy and sweaty to do more that day, it was summery). Some days a little more, on work days just under a mile at/to/from/on the job, get very sore and tired. I take an audiobook with me and “read" if walking alone to help kill boredom.
This morning I just had the Kefir, lunch will be a little tuna with celery and mayo, and later DH and I are going out to dinner to a nice restaurant to celebrate finishing our taxes ( anticipate eating and drinking 700 calories, and bringing entree leftovers home) . I did not take the appetite suppressing metformin today in anticipation and will walk more today with DH, it is cooler and beautiful now. I hope for a real vacation in a couple months and other than avoiding stuffing myself, I will eat what I want, and walk, and then when I get back, get back on the weight loss regimen, need to treat yourself at times.
5. This is not for everybody, just an example, and it is not easy to walk past the vending machines which have Fritos and snickers bars at the end of a busy work day! Whatever you do, calories expended have to be net more than those taken in or there will be no wt loss ( best metabolism expert estimates are -500 a day from baseline to lose 1 lb a week, or be -3500 per week, half that for half a pound loss per week). Bigger people can have higher caloric intake than me and still lose because their basal needs for wt maintenance are higher, they just have to run net negative.
BTW make sure you have had thyroid function tested (blood), if low function, it can lower metablolic rate and make you tired too, among other symptoms, and is common.
I have a pedometer and nutritional counter app and read labels on foods I do not know.
Good luck!

60 mins Shovel & Sculpt. Bonus points for scraping ice off the sidewalk.
Dark-eyed juncos foraging under the feeder on seeds dropped by squirrel who hangs upside down to lick seeds from the tray. It's amusing to watch and taught me things like squirrels have tongues and know how to use them LOL.

Ruth- the app was just what I needed! Thank you! It is so easy to use. I'm starting with the free one. I might purchase the full app of I see I'm going to utilize it daily!
Rainy day in the mountains! Current situation is a down pour! I'm thinking this part of the storm that dumped more snow on you other girls!

Hi Everyone!!!
Poliwogli - Thanks for the congrats!!! The weight came off verrrrrryyyyy slowly...haha.
Coach Vicky - I love that about your neighbor!!! What a kind person...
Sweetandspecial - HUGE congrats on your 5 yr mark and being off the anti-estrogen meds. I reached 2 yrs - on Friday. It really feels like an accomplishment.
Egads - Love your "Leg Day" workout followed off by a trip to the hardware store!!! LOL!!!! That's how I'm feeling today - after working out the past 10 days in a row!!!
Ruthbru - BEAUTIFUL new car!!!! NICE color!!!! I have an Elantra - too!!! Older model (2015) But - it is really a great car!!! Never given me any problems and my next one - will also be an Elantra!!!
LB - Nice photo!!!
Badger - Cute song!!!
As for me - ready to cut off my legs - as well!! (as I was telling Egads!). My legs are screaming at me - to take a day off of working-out - but - can't seem to do it because it feels so good - at the same time.
Friday's Turbo Kick class - KICKED MY BUTT!!! Sweated buckets. The instructor is a very petite little POWERHOUSE beast of energy!!! Non-stop for 30 minutes!! Followed by some high intensity interval training.
Yesterday - did the bike at the gym - for an hour.
Today - another Turbo Kick class. It wasn't as hard as the Friday class. But, that's Ok. My legs want/need the break!!!!
