LB, congrats on the mammo results and good luck to your DH! I have to say I hate CTs and my DH hates them even more than I do. (He's had them twice, one for each time he had blood clots in his lungs.) Hope your DH has smooth sailing.

TH, exercise and fasting affect similar pathways (insulin, AMPK, mTOR). So I think you are good. Sometimes doing both at the same time is too much stress on the body. IMO. Like when I combined metformin and exercise and then read you had more insulin or glucose spikes (I forget which) combining the two than just doing one. I chose to stop metformin even though my onc wanted me to continue.

Went for a walk in the neighborhood. Rewarded myself with an unsweetened iced tea with lemon from Dunkin‘ Donuts after my walk was over.

Welcome to everyone joining us!!! I want to stress the importance of doing something you enjoy. For me, it's outdoor sports, so cycling, Nordic skiing, running, hiking, walking and swimming in a local lake when the weather is hot. I also do weights and crunches every single week day. This keeps me fit, helps my mood, and keeps my brain in good working order. The only downside is that clothes are far more tempting, so I find that I indulge.

These are all benefits beyond the obvious health ones.

There is one other thing that I need to mention: mobility. I live in an over 55 community, and this is no joke. I see so much unnecessary debilitation. In about 6 weeks, I will most likely spend a day in Eastern Washington, cycling about 35 miles, stopping in Prosser for a glass of wine, and then heading to the vineyard for a spot of camping. Just so much fun. The trip would be quite the same if I had to do a bus tour with a cane or walker. I swing by the supermarket across the way post run, and carry home a couple of bags of groceries while some of my neighbors struggle with a small push cart.

I feel so grateful, but I am also aware that staying fit takes discipline. I hate the crunches and weights, but they are over soon enough. One more thing I will mention is that my daily working out is something I can do with minimal fuss. I have the free weights where I can grab them while cooking dinner; my exercise ball is close by; and I can head out on a walk or run from the front door of where I live.

Practicing what I preach, I have a ride with a friend in the farmland nearby scheduled for Saturday and the Daffodil Classic for Sunday. That should get my training up a couple of notches. Tulip Pedal in ten days. - Claire

2FUN - forget about the ‘massive chunk’ you have to lose and concentrate on the 5 lbs you lost (every ounce you lose deserves an award). I felt the same in the beginning, I even obsessed over it....did me no good. Just keep doing it...you’ll get there.

I think the most unproductive thought I carried around for years was viewing lifestyle changes as a prison sentence. As if healthy choices didn’t taste or feel good. Once I embraced the awesome feeling the changes gave me I haven’t turned back. My previous eating/lack of exercise habits are a turn off, and I now view them as a prison sentence...without chance of parole. I love my lifestyle now!

Wonderful posts and inspiring stories in this thread...yup, all of us are gittin’ It done and rockin’ it...GO US!!

Hello all! Welcome to everyone new!

2Fun...wonderful job on the weight loss!

Lilac..you are a busy awesome lady! Love hearing about the classes you teach! So great!

Bareclaw...awe of you running barefoot! Not tough enough to do that!

I ran 4 miles on Tuesday and did a 40 min bosu burn video and 20min of weight loss yoga last night. I bit the bullet yesterday and registered for my half. I had told myself I would after I ran my 10 mile long run this weekend but the race will filling up fast and close to being capped. I didn't want to chance it. If my 10 miles doesn't go well on Sun, I have the option to drop down to the 10k before May. I have done 8 miles a couple times and feel fine after so should be good to go. I just know I am pushing myself a little as I still have a few lingering side effects from chemo. Just don't want to over do it. Still learning to be patient with myself!

No running or exercise tonight..meeting friends for supper.

After the walk, I did some housework. Washed a few dishes, folded laundry. Also exchanged some cold weather shirts for some t-shirts now that it appears that Spring has finally arrived

    Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the welcome back! Its great reading everyone's progress on here!!

    And, welcome all newbies!!!

"Insanity" + bike workout at the gym on Monday, bike workout on Tuesday and did "GRIT Pylo" yesterday.

The last time I tried GRIT Pylo - was 5 months ago - and had a horrible time!!! (got confused on the step sequences and the instructor kept coming over and yelling at me for not doing it right - when I felt like I was going to die!!!!). This time - different instructor - and I am in much better shape. I was able to keep up with the class. But, still struggled with those lateral -jumps over the step-bench!!! Those are HARD!!! But, gave me a wonderful workout high afterwards...

I've lost ~ 18 pounds since December. (I had gained ~ 20 pounds after starting Arimidex)

What's helped me - is - the myfitnesspal app. Just recording everything helps SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much.

Runnermum, I may try a 10 mile long run on Sunday, too. There was still gas in the tank after my 8 mile last Sunday, so I feel inspired to reach further. No pace expectations—just cover the distance.

    Good afternoon, all!

I had another lovely 1 mile swim today. Our pool is closing it's doors to lap swimmers at the end of the month, and I'm trying to swim as much as I can. So angry with the management, and sad to leave my friends there. With so much emphasis on exercise to reduce bc recurrence, I want to swim now more than ever. It's what I do. I'll try some other facilities here, but this is definitely the best lap pool in my area. :(

My neighbor saw me walking outside. She knows the cancer story. I told her my treadmill died and I was getting an elliptical. She offer me her treadmill anytime.

I would also be upset (indeed, furious) about the lap lanes closing at my pool! I hope you can find an alternative, Poliwogli!

I swam today also, and then did household chores....

Falconer - thanks for posting the article! I’ve been splitting my cardio up into 10 minute blocks through hour long strength training for the last year or so and have noticed a difference in stamina. Nice to read about the other benefits of doing it this way! Cheers

Falconer, glad to hear the short walks add up, too. I do a lot of walking around my building in the winter so Its good to know those 12 or 16 minute walks and stairs do some good.

i walked at lunch 32 minutes today in the 70 degree weather. But alas, chance of snow in the forecast this weekend.

high 70s today and mid 40s tomorrow with snow in the mountains. You could feel and see the weather changing aroun 4:30pm when it got really windy. Tomorrow is the first free Friday I’ve had in several weeks.....Loki g forward to down time, cleaning, putting things away and whatever else I get done.

Started back walk before work and it feels so good. It’s finally light at 6:30. Really beginning to notice the longer days.

So many new names since I last visited - welcome!!!

I've been pretty faithful with three days a week at the gym for the past year or so. Body sculpt, core and more, core de force, elliptical, treadmill. Certain things on certain days. Haven't lost weight but have regained lots of strength and am finally seeing some contouring again even though I'm still a good 50 lbs heavier than before bc. Tonight was a 45 minute body sculpt class with emphasis on upper body (thursday's Muscle group).

Had a lovely week in Charleston recently. A little cool, but wasn't there for the beach but the history.

Life is good. Passed the 5 year mark in November and finished Arimidex in DecemberSmile.

Will try to do better reporting my exercise. I'm in front of a computer all day and typically am just not interested in more of it at after getting home. Luv you all, though. This is an awesome bunch!

Dancing, big congrats on losing 18 pounds while on Arimidex. Not an easy feat.  Sweet, congrats on the milestones and more muscle to you.

Tai chi yesterday for 1 and half hours, or as they say, meditation in motion.

Been busy this morning in the house. Spider plant needed repotting as it had outgrown the pot it came in, the rug in the living room, cleaned the bathroom. Still have a couple things like the monthly fish tank maintenance and a few dishes before I prep dinner.

I'm newly diagnosed (four days ago - yikes!) but can weigh in here with what I do in terms of exercise: "Something every single day" is the easy way of putting it. Years ago before and since a knee replacement in my 50s (I'm late 60s now), I committed to protecting that expensive joint and the rest of myself. So I do yoga, walk, hike, do resistance/weights training, stretching, etc. Something every day, as I say. At least 45 minutes to 90 minutes a day, sometimes spread out.

I also eat ridiculously healthy, thanks to being diagnosed pre-diabetic awhile back and then consulting with a nutritionist and doing a lot of reading and moving toward a largely plant-based diet. The result? No longer pre-diabetic, cholesterol is under control, 15 pounds evaporated away magically, I have more energy, and feel younger and better.

Yeah, I have cancer but I'm hoping this lifestyle and regimen will set me up for a less horrid experience through treatment and a better recovery.

I just discovered this website yesterday and am so buoyed by it and heartened to have a circle/network/support group of sisters to draw humor and strength from!

Just back from lunch time Pilates class...This was a "perfect" M-F for exercise classes, able to get to a class of some variety every day. Perfect way to get me back in the groove after a business trip kept me away from most activities last Thursday - Sunday.

Finally the thermostat has come alive and we are in the mid-70's here in southern Virginia...yeah!!!

Welcome Patsy, sorry you are here, but this is a wonderful group of women. Everyone, have a fantastic weekend! TT

HI all. Haven't been on in ages. Welcome to all the newbies.

Finally warm enough to begin at the pool again (water is held at 82 F but then you have to get out) so heading over in a few. Going with my sisters so it's to the adult pool which is not really for doing laps but I can run in place and do weights, so it's good. Now that the afternoon weather is in the 80's will get to one of the sports pools at least once a week for laps (I'm only a beginner swimmer so a lap for me is a workout!) Love my pickleball but it's not really a heavy "exercise", but it is movement. Subbed to lead a Walk Away The Pounds class and really need to start going to them again. Need to lose about 15 lbs. Know I need to come here daily for motivation, just have so many things going but will try to do better.

    Later my sculpted friends.

Just back from the gym where I INTENDED to do half an hour of weights/resistance routine. Turned into 15 minutes but a good 15 minutes. Then my wonderful hilarious yoga class where the class was uncharacteristically small and our fearless leader in rare form. A LOT of laughter and some yoga. Miraculously, we were able to keep out balance during balance poses like Warrior 3 and we each found our center of calm and got what we needed out of the class. The laughter is a treasure beyond measure and a bonus.
