Karen I’m in Denver, too and this is on my running trail in Wash Park. One of at least six big evergreens at the north end. I could cry.

bareclaws, where are you in Denver. I’m guessing the neighbors tree was dead since the roots were shallow. The houses by me were all built in the early 1960s. Thank goodness we didn’t have much tree damage and our fence seems to be okay. I’m in SE Denver. I walked Wash Park last Monday with my daughter. I love walking the park, but don’t do it nearly often enough.

Karen, I’m in West Wash Park neighborhood, just off the NE corner of the park. Moved here last fall so I’m still finding my way around. The first thing I did was find all the yarn stores. Now I’m exploring the running trails, run in the park most days but am trying to run in other places on weekends. I ran to the Cherry Creek Reservoir last Sunday.

karen, really glad you are unhurt. Octogirl, congrats on graduating from PT.  Falconer, good luck on the Earth Day 5K. I'll be biking that day with DD and DH. We are going to Meran, Italy, a historic spa town as well as a famous biking region. I don't know what my husband has planned but the region goes from 300 to 3,000 meters above sea level. It would be good to get in a 5K run today as I can't remember the last time I did it and to train for our bike trip.

Havent missed a workout or run since last Friday! 5 days of good runs and workouts! I can feel I am getting stronger but know I have a ways to go yet. I feel very good right now. Handling Tamoxifen well (besides hot flashes) and really no lasting side effects from chemo, which only ended 5 months ago. I truly believe my activity level before, durring and now after chemo is the main reason! Will run 4 miles tonight after work and take tomorrow as a rest day!

Scary weather Colorado ladies! Glad you are all ok! I am also jealous that you both are close to Washington Park. We have vacationed in the Denver area a few times and every time we have driven by that area, I am in awe of all the runners, walkers bikers, etc out and about. It's a beautiful park and I remember wanting to jump out of the car and go for a quick run!

Great job to all of you! Happy Wednesday!

My sister and her husband are going through getting their condo repaired as they had a tree damage their living room ceiling about 10 days ago. Fortunately, no structural damage. Scary stuff. I went through this too about 20 years ago while still married. To this day, I still can't believe that the six trees missed our house and cars.

I did the 40 mile ride last Sunday with another scheduled for Saturday. My regular walking/running in between.

Saturday's ride is the Tulip Pedal, and I am hoping for nice weather. It should be gorgeous riding through the tulip fields and then next to the Puget Sound. There will most likely be snow on the low hills. Everything should be in full bloom as it's been chilly out. (Note to self: wear lots of fleece.)

To those starting out exercising post treatment. Yes, you do get stronger. I am able to get up hills on my bicycle that I couldn't make it up in my entire life!!! It does take work, but the results are so rewarding. People where I live often come up to me and tell me how fit I look, not to mention that I have a great figure. (That one could do with a bit less upholstery at the moment.) I am not fast in any of these, but I wasn't at 15 either. I am sculpted.

For the record, I don't do gyms or classes. I do spend a lot of time outdoors doing activities I love, and also crunches and free weights. That seems to do the trick. Last night after I got home, I walked 3 miles and got to hear the frogs singing. It took care of the tension and cleared the brain.

Now to get rolling as work beckons, and I need to put together a spreadsheet prior to hitting the shower. - Claire

That is wonderful Claire! Thank you...it's so good to hear we can come back stronger than before. Makes me feel better! The 12 months leading up to my diagnosis I had ran 3 half marathons and each time took 2-5 min off the previous half finish time. I was running well, being consistent and staying injury free. Getting my strength workouts in and feeling really good. Then wham...diagnosis came in the middle of last springs marathon training. Treatment sent me back (lost so much strength and stamina) but it's coming back and I have high hopes I can continue to get faster and stronger.

Another great story that made me cry, Runnermum. I think people who exercise come back better (from any medical setback) because you have the mindset that you want to and are willing to put the work in to make it happen.

The Walking Women (for new gals, a group of us retired teachers meet every Wednesday morning to walk for an hour (and eat breakfast afterwards) had another fun morning, two walked outside but the rest of us are still indoors........Zumba tonight.

Claire, I’m jealous. I rode my bike yesterday even though the weather was a bit “iffy”. You sound like your weather is perfect for cycling. A ride through fields of tulips sounds heavenly! I only got to ride 23 miles yesterday because the trail was blocked by snow drifts. I’m waiting for test results before we set the surgery date for my ILC and the riding helps me to cope. But we seem to have eliminated spring this year and I suspect will go right into hot weather as soon as this cold spell breaks!

Wow, Karen, that is a close call! Glad it missed your house. My mother had a tree come down on her house several years ago, landed very close to where she was sitting. Fortunately, she and the dog were okay, but she said it sounded like a bomb.

I swam a mile yesterday, then ran into NYC for my first radiation treatment. I had read in these forums that exercise seems to stem the fatigue that many get with rads, so I've made it a goal to keep moving. However, as it turns out, I'm only scheduled for 5 treatments with a newer 3D technique. My RO says that some women experience mild fatigue with this method. She also says that the pool chlorine won't be a problem.

I started working with free weights a few days ago. It's not really my thing, but I'm going to add that in. My arms were so sore yesterday, then I had to hold a sort of twisted position during treatment while they set up the imaging files. Agony set in, and I felt like I was in some sci fi movie.

Have a good day and take care, everyone!

Runnermum, I was training for my 4th marathon of the year when my husband died and then a few weeks later bilateral BC diagnosed. I downsized to a half and tried to run it 11 days after first chemo. Made it 5 miles and dropped out because I thought I was going to throw up (despite the marijuana I was vaping in the corral!) Then things got worse. After neoadjuvant chemo and surgery, I started running again, during taxol chemo. The steroids made me crazy and I bruised a foot last spring, it took almost a year for that to heal, but now it’s completely healed and my lungs are getting adjusted to a higher altitude . I’m speeding up a bit, adding mileage. Feeling so much stronger.

Amie...Please do NOT beat yourself up over this!!! When I first attempted pylo - the instructor kept coming over to me and was yelling at me for doing it wrong - when I thought I was going to die!!! It's been a long road getting my upper body strength back. And, I've been at this - since August of last year. But, it can and it does come back. It's awesome that you are trying hard but - don't be hard - on yourself for not having your strength back - yet.

    Karen - WOW!!!!

Stationary bike last night - for me! Love spacing out and not thinking about things for awhile!! Tonight - its Grit Pylo...(hopefully get through it without tripping over the bench!!).

Claire: A ride through tulip fields sounds divine.

M0mmy: What workout did you decide to do?

bareclaws: Oh my goodness. I am so sorry about your husband and then your diagnosis. Hope you had and continue to have a lot of support. Sending Love your way.

Hi Everyone! Dh and I worked in the yard today. I mowed for 90 minutes and picked up sticks, raked, and did some pruning for 45 minutes.

Here are pictures of some rocks I dot painted yesterday.

    Love the rock dots, Wonderland!

30 mins Shovel & Sculpt 2nite clearing sidewalks. It's still snowing but good to get a head start. This s/b the last snowstorm of the season which to me is bittersweet. Yes I want spring but snow makes me happy. We have tulips just coming up but this is as close to blooms as the upper Midwest will get for a while.

    glad you are safe Karen!

My exercise was keeping the behavior of a few cute autistic kids in check. I got up from a session where I was propped in a sitting position on an exercise ball, and my legs were quivering. I forgot I had been in a squat for 20 minutes!

I have a question for all of you exercise ladies. I am trying to make a connection between what I know of muscle physiology and what I don't know about cancer and all of it's interventions. Does anyone have any research about exercise and cancer, hormone therapies etc? I am particularly interested in the effects on the muscle fibers, and muscle physiology. TIA

Bareclaws...I am so sorry. 💗 You are amazing and I send you strength and love. We lost my sister in law last fall to cancer...she was one of my best friends. She was diagnosed about 4 months before me. It sucks. We are stronger than we know!

Wonderland, so beautiful, thanks for posting!

As for exercize: I did ZERO today other than trudging my sorry rear to work and doing minimal mobility needed for my job, my body hurts too much, as it often does when weather is less warm.

Just reading about all this exercize is exhausting :(

Hopefully on the weekend I will have stamina to do something more physical. At a minimum, the cat box needs attention and moving through a a pile of laundry will give an upper bodynworkout, if I can deal with the exertional Arimidex sweats.

I did my usual 10,000 steps and 6 flights of stairs yesterday. I use the stairs as much as I can when I'm in the office.

Wonderland - I love those rocks! The butterfly one in particular would look great in my butterfly garden. Smile

    Happy Thursday, ladies!

I'm heading out to the pool soon, then into Manhattan for my second radiation treatment. Yesterday, I did yoga stretches and qigong - hoping to prepare for that awkward position they'll put me in later today. Qigong is related to taichi, and there is one exercise that really helps me with shoulder stiffness. I used to take taichi classes, but stopped about 10 years ago. It's relaxing, but also especially good for leg and foot strength.

Wishing a super day for you all!

Amie coming back takes time, you have to crawl before you can walk and darn it Piyo is hard so don't beat yourself up, do all the modifications they are there for a reason, you will get there like I say, it takes time.

Wonderland I love your rocks, you are so talented.

Octo congrats on finishing up your PT.

Runnermum thank you for sharing that story it brought a tear to my eye, what an amazing woman. My young friend has been blogging about her experience, she ended up wearing a jacket which covered her number she said the conditions were miserable but when she got to Heartbreak Hill she heard the song Halo not once but twice and that was her and her Moms song and that kept her going, she got an email telling her her photos were up and she said she wasn't expecting any as she had her number covered by her jacket (she said she thought she'd ditch the jacket along the way but it was way too cold and wet) anyway the only photo captured of her was crossing the finish line with her hand to the sky which is always her signal to her Mom in heaven so she was more than elated.

Ruth I'm sure what you've made for dessert will be delicious.

Poliwogli I really like tai chi, I should do more of it.

Last night did the new Grit Strength, really tough as there is a one minute, on the beat clean and press challenge - a minute doesn't sound like a long time but geeze it is when you're moving a bar with weights up and down and then to add insult to injury you get to do it over again, I will admit that I did have to stop and catch my breath a few times.

    Hi Everyone!!!

I hope everyone's doing well....I sweated SO much in yesterday's Grit class that the lens on my glasses were fogged up and dripping with sweat!!! I need to get contacts! Because I need either glasses or contacts to see the instructor. (can't see good far away).

Hbcheryl - I did the new GRIT - yesterday - too. (But, it wasn't the "Strength" it was the Grit "Pylo"). Anyway - anything Grit - is F*cking HARD!!!!! But, I love that they are continuing to make it challenging.

I've never tried Grit Strength and am a little scared to. One of these days - I plan to try it!!!

And - Yes - those one minute of intensity drills - feel like an ETERNITY!!!! And, followed by 10 seconds of rest. I can barely catch my breathe and we're at it again!!! But, it feels so good.

Octogirl - YAY on your last day of PT!!! Congrats!!!!

Runnermum - That's excellent on your 5 day (and, counting) in a row of running!! That must feel amazing!!

Wonderland - Your rocks are so Beautiful!!! I love the colors and designs on them!!

    Badger - Cute picture!!

Chronicpain - I hear ya on the cat box and LAUNDRY!!! I feel like I just took care of both - but - the cat box is now gross and the laundry basket - is OVER-flowing!!!

    Shout-out - to Everyone else!!!!!

Tonight - going to an hour "Insanity" class. I've only done the 1/2 hour ones. So, I'm a little scared!!!

I'm also a little worried because the class after it is a class that I no longer go to - because I feel like I've sort-of graduated out of it. It's no longer challenging for me and I don't feel like I'm doing much by being there. But, I don't want to hurt the instructor's feelings - if she sees me going to the other class and not going to hers. I don't know why I'm worried about this. I think I worry too much!!!!

Ran 4 miles last night and we finally have spring!! 50*, sunny with 21 mph winds but it still felt fantastic to wear 1 layer of clothes...running capris and a light long sleeve top. Will take a test day today and off work tomorrow so will run in the afternoon. A good friend of mine was diagnosed 2 wks ago...they are doing chemo first and she starts tomorrow morning. I have 2 checkups at cancer center tomorrow morning so am going to stop in and visit her with some treats.
