Ruth: You home will look new when everything is finished!

Jo: WOW! Push mowing 3 acres sounds outrageous! And you were all oiled up! I slip and slid from my own sweat that I can't even put on sunscreen. I do wear a wide rim hat, though. These hot and especially humid days are so hard and I always appreciate and admire those that have to work all day outside.

Claire: Your weather sounds divine! So happy for the good changes in your life.

Walked/ran this morning. Been busy cooking and packing for our beach trip. Looking forward to the ocean breeze!

Wonderland, this community is in a constant state of construction and I am amazed how these guys (and some ladies) work in this heat. The only break they take is for lunch, otherwise they are working from 7am non-stop. It really is a wonder to watch them.

3 mile Walk Away the Pounds class this morning then hanging out with my sister in stores mainly browsing. Marching for the children tomorrow and then either the pool (first choice) or weeding the lawn.

    Night sculpted friends.

This thread seems pretty active so I’m going to ask here. I am almost 6 weeks post BMX and I need some arm exercise ideas. I see all you ladies running, doing classes, etc, but I’m not there yet! My node side is still much more sore and Thera gen of motion isn’t much worse than my non cancer side (that one stil isn’t great either) I’ve asked at my dr and she said just don’t do anything off it hurts....thanks for the suggestions! Anyways id like some ideas of what I could do to stop any further range of motion loss, please and thank you! I know I’m still fairly recent out of surgery, and I don’t know if it’s my expanders limiting my motion and I’ll just have to deal with it until exchange.

SLL - I came across this post surgery exercise book put out by university of Mich cancer center after my lumpectomy. Like you I was given nothing. I found it a very good program as a starting point for arms and upper body post surgery. It’s long, but if you scroll to page 55 of the PDF , you’ll find the exercises. Hope it helps!

hi all and welcome SLL101984. I had BMX but no recon and didn't do much with my arms for quite some time. Please check out this excellent BCO thread: Guidelines on exercise for those with/at-risk for Lymphedema. I'll bump it up into Active Topics for you as well.

Wonderland, great pix of your DD at the wedding. How many outfit changes were there? I think I counted five.

Ruth, I loved Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine! Thanks for the rec. For the readers, BCO has an active Book Lovers Club and all are welcome.

Hotter than blazes in the Midwest this week so got in a morning walk. Will stop at gym on way home from mom's this afternoon.

This team is very active during the week. I know because it just took me a while to catch up with everyone's photos and exercise news after not checking in since the weekend. It is hot everywhere, apparently. 60 degrees here just last Friday - sat in my house in sweats and furry slippers trying to stay warm. 95 yesterday and today. Luckily I got in enough walks Monday through Thursday and have 170 minutes for the week. I thought I might beat the heat by going early in the morning, but at 7 am I checked and the heat index was already 87. I had lunch with a friend and went to Ulta instead.

Wonderland- don't forget I was in my teens during the mowing in the Bikini stage. Also the mowing was split between my four sisters and 3 Brothers. Being oiled up did make the experience a little slippery on occasion. LOL

Did a 3-mile run today. Wasn't really inspired to go any further. Too damn hot. I might go for a walk later if it cools off.

SLL - welcome, but sorry you had to join the club. The only exercise I do is walk. Post surgery and during chemo it sometimes was just to the corner and back.. Be gentle on yourself

Hi SLL, check this out: http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/BreastCancer/MoreInformation/exercises-after-breast-surgery

I did an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin this morning and have been working on the house ever since. It is seeming a pretty endless project at the moment!

Escaped the heat early on yesterday and went to the beach. Before it gets too hot, I am going to workout and then start working in the garden.

SSL, welcome. I would think your dr could prescribe a visit to the PT. They will be able to evaluate the best way to get you moving and improve your strength and range. Depending on the state you live in and your insurance, you may not need a dr referral.

Last night's rain cooled it off for a nice morning walk. The flowers perked up and so did I. Weeded for a while as the heat & humidity built back up. Picked two dozen shiny green beetles off the zinnias and drowned them in soapy water. They were mostly clumped in twos so hope they died happy. Something ate the hollyhock leaves to lace. Little green worms, hollyhock sawfly per google. Must figure out something for next spring that doesn't harm the pollinators. I'm in the cool house for the remainder of the day. There's housework to be done but I have a book ... and a nap would be nice ...

SLL, the exercises that Ruth posted are what I had too. I also went to a post-cancer program and she had me use an exercise ball up on the wall and move the ball around-the-world, in clock fashion - sorry hard to describe, but this helps with mobility. We did ridiculously easy 1 pound weights eventually - so start easy is the message.

Heidi that's looks so nice - pretty flowers, cool lake, boat, ahhhh....

I can't really say its pleasant outside, but after yesterday, well it is almost pleasant. Went for a 54 minute walk this morning and heat index was only 92 but good breeze and was tolerable if you stick to the shadier streets. This at least is normal for summer, unlike yesterday. It was even 88 degrees at 10 pm last night.

Has anyone tried some of the clothing that is UV protective? I was thinking about buy a long sleeved shirt just because I get sick of putting on sunscreen, but I can't imagine they are really cool enough to wear in hot summer. If anyone has info, let me know.

TwoHobbies, try that link for cooling shirt with UV protection.

Rain threat (no big surprise here) so no walk or swim this afternoon. Maybe shopping therapy however will work. My electric stove has one burner no longer working and now the oven has quit so guess need to get out there and replace the 20+ appliance. After all, for the 2 or 3 times a year that I use it, it could come in handy! Winking

Nice HeidiHill and have fun in Rome! TwoHobbies, what wide temp swings for summer. Sll, welcome and another gentle suggestion, there may be a bc exercise program that you can attend at your local YMCA - if you have one nearby. Hot here in the Kent hinterlands and loving it. Pilates this morning and at this moment, just pulled out of the oven, a homemade peach and hazelnut frangipane tart. Sure feels like summer and Wimbledon fortnight starts tomorrow - YaY!

Homemade - you are amazing!! gorgeous pictures.

Not a good walking day. More of a lazy day - sat in the sun too long before moving to the shade and I feel burned...not super red though - I don't like how sunscreen feels or smells so I'm not good about using it.

3 day week-end for Canada as tomorrow is the day off...My older daughter lives in Toronto and is happy to have the extra day.

For the past several years I've not been home for the July 4th - this year is so dry in Colorado, lots of towns are cancelling the fireworks....SO many wildfires burning right now.

    Beautiful pictures,Heidi and Salsa!

It was actually a nice day here.....sadly, I spent all of it working inside. The master bedroom is completely put back together and the spare bedroom is half-way done......hopefully by tomorrow. After that I have to get ready for the 4th of July, when we always have a big picnic in the backyard. Then we will have to plot out the rest of the project.

TwoHobbies, one of my friends & her DH are AVID fishermen and wear those shirts all the time on their fishing trips. They swear by them!

Oh and for TwoHobbies- I wear those sun hoodies all summer, as do all my Co-workers at Exum Mountain Guides. My favorite is the OR Echo hoodie (see purple one in photo above), and the Patagonia sun hoodie is nice too.

    Off to rad #6...

I'm off work until Thurs. Even though I could've slept in, of course I was up at the crack of dawn. Put the time to good use by starting my day with a 45 min walk in the cool morning air. Will head to the gym this afternoon to work out and renew my annual membership.

    Hi Everyone!

Heidi and Homemade- those are beautiful pics!

Still exercise restricted and that includes swimming (boo). We are in Hickory, NC, visiting the DHs bf from HS. Any NC folks nearby? We went out on his boat yesterday which was great. Hickory seems like such a nice place to live and have kids.

We came down here bc we dropped my 16 year old off at Teen Adventure; basically a three week hike/ canoe trip along the Appalachian Trail.

This morning we will watch the World Cup and then up to DC to see the DHs aunt. I'm actually glad to be doing so much car time now as I am itching to exercise and I am forced to sit still!

    Happy Monday, everyone!

Thanks, Patoo, homemadesalsa and Ruth for the input on the shirts. I'm going to order a couple of different kinds and see what I like. I really like the idea of the arctic cool where you can dampen it and it provides cooling. I'm outside so much and I feel like I put on sunscreen, go out for my exercise adventures, take a shower, and then if I go outside to relax, I'm putting the sunscreen on again, and then thinking maybe I should shower it off at the end of the day. It would be so much easier to only worry about face and neck.

Love those pics, homemadesalsa. I would love that. Biking and seeing beautiful wildflowers and scenery at the same time. Nice!

Today's a gorgeous day and cooler! woo-hoo! I am off work all week, and my husband now has an unexpected day off so we are going to venture out somewhere and enjoy.

Salsa, my stomach churns just looking at your beautiful pictures. Obviously I have balance issues (as hbcheryl can probably attest from our ride up the CA coast a few years back!)

WATP this morning and will play a few games pickleball this evening before dancing at one of our squares. Not losing weight but getting back to regular movement, and coming here more often again, is helping my clothes to fit better.

Falconer- I'm in Asheville! Hickory isnt that far away. I haven't been there in a few years. Enjoy your time there!

I have been in the pool everyday for about 2 hours. I swim, walk and do an upper body work out. Oh. ..and I float! I have got a pretty good tan going on my legs. I have kept my upper body covered so I do not burn. I have a "rash guard" top that is long sleeves. It's not hot at all and does not irrate my skin even when it's wet. I have no clue what brand it is nor do I remember where I got it. I have also been keeping up with my steps. Keep moving girls!
