You look terrific Claire, well done! Ruth, love the photos and looks like you had so much fun. Falconer, been on your mat and relaxing down time since home from visiting Montana or on the go with wee one? Warm start to the day and looking to get out to complete errands before noon. Onwards and happy hump day everyone!

Woot, woot, Claire on your latest and 12th consecutive. What a lovely pink finish to boot.

On Monday, I ran my first 5K of the summer, maybe even of the year, and the first summer outdoor run. I am thinking of running a 10K in the Valencia Marathon in December. Whether I make it to Valencia or not, I'm hoping to be able to run 10K by then.

Fun Zumba yesterday. We had a Korean teacher and she played lots of K Pop songs. Planning to do some yoga today.

A friend invited the Walking Women out to her cabin, where we walked and were treated to a lovely breakfast on her deck overlooking the water. I'll go to Step tonight.

    Congratulations, Claire!

We had a busy weekend. Our DD’s had a 30th wedding anniversary party for us. It was so much fun and we were surrounded by lots of family and friends. They even wore t-shirts with our engagement photo on it. Too funny!

On Monday, we spent our actual anniversary day at the beach in Watch Hill. It was a hot day!

Pat- I hear you about the heat. It’s getting to me more too. I spent much more time than usual under the umbrella in the shade. We finally got to one of the beach concerts in Westerly. Lots of fun.

Yesterday afternoon, we had a tornado warning and had to take cover in the basement. That’s a first for me. While we were waiting down there we started cleaning and reorganizing stuff. Luckily, we had no tornado and we now have a much cleaner basement to boot.

This weekend the daughter of our good friends is getting married near where we live. Everyone else is traveling from out of town so we are “wedding central”. It’s going to be a busy week.

I’ve managed to fit in Zumba and water fitness this week.

    Hey Strong Sisters!

    Yay, Claire!

    Ruth, you have amazing friends!

Heidi, I would like to join you in your goal of running 10k by December if that's alright with you. How did you enjoy your 5k?

Lilac, it's a little of both- yoga if I wake early enough. Then play with the little one for sure. How much longer in the YTT?

Since it was four weeks from stage two recon this past weekend, I decided to go for a run. i foolishly picked a hilly 5K, didn't wear my abdominal binder because it was blazing hot, and walked most of the last mile up hill. I wouldn't even be telling you this except that on Monday I bent down to pick up my little DS and yup, back spasm knocks me over. So lots of ibuprofen and got the DH to spread some tiger balm on it. That stuff works wonders. Feeling better but still a little twingeytoday. Now, when will I be up for a run again?!

Dang Falconer it's always the way isn't it, the only thing about Tiger Balm is it smells but yes it sure works. Heidi in October there is going to be a Body Jam go up on YouTube, they just filmed it with Nina Dobrov who is an actress from Vampire Diaries I'll let you know once it drops. Ruth that pond is gorgeous. Pat thenheat has been unbearable here as well, make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

Yesterday did Sprint, then this morning met up with a girl from Arkansas who is in So Cal while her DH is at a conference and who is a member of another group I'm part of and we did RPM and Combat together, then tonight did a 30 minute Combat and a 30 minute Grit Strength class.

Falconer, I ran along the lake so it was nice. I wasn't too tired but couldn't wait to hit the 5K mark. It's a mental thing with me. Later I did feel a back spasm starting but it somehow stopped before it got really going. Yes, please join me in shooting for 10K. Cheryl, I would love to get into the BodyJam groove again.  Ruth, the new sleeveless  WWW t-shirts look great.

My inner thighs hurt today from doing a kettlebell and bodyweight HIIT workout yesterday. That was in place of the yoga that I had planned. Going for a bike ride this afternoon.

ok ladies, I'm going to complain again. I'm exercising at a moderate to vigorous level for 45 min of my 60 min workouts, and moderate to low for warm up, cool down and done core/resistance work. All I do is get tired, and never feel sore/like I am building muscle. I still get winded/tired walking across the mall parking lot with a few bags of returns. I am one year past last surgery, and am 6 werks into arimidex, but had the same thing with letrozole and exemestane. I'm not finding any research out there to give me answers, and my MO (who is involved in a lot of active research) doesn't have an answer either. Any ideas anyone. It's killing me that I am working so hard and really only feel 1% stronger than a year ago.

That being said, I took yesterday off of exercise and aromatase inhibitors. Slept better, and I'll go at it later today. I'm interviewing people to replace my siding. We wI'll have new siding and windows by the winter, and no savings!lol

2Fun, I don't know if this helps; but it took me two years after finishing treatments (except Armidex because I was on that for 5 years) before I felt like I was completely back to my 'normal' in the fitness department. It was a slog to be sure, and you just have to keep at it. That was my experience anyway.

It's a rainy day; which we really need. After I'm done here; I am off to Pound, will probably stay for Bone Builders, and will do yoga tonight. I am looking forward to that because I'm all creaky from dragging suitcases through airports etc

    hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. I hope I am asking the right question. I am done with my 4 cycles of AC and starting 12 weeks of Taxol starting tomorrow. I used to be active but once this BC hit me, it changed my life. I do not get motivate to workout at home. I try to go evening walk with my husband for around 20ish minutes but I think its not sufficient. I want to get back to gym but I am not sure whether my body will be able to do it or not. I am still not used to in facing the world with bald head and wearing hats or scarves makes me feel hot.

So any ladies out there, could you please share your experience on workout during the Chemo. Are there any light weight caps or hats that prevent sweating during workout.

    -Take care

    Naesha

Naesha I worked out religiously during chemo, including AC, except for maybe the second day post-treatment. I went to the gym, skied, now am mountain biking. And the oncologist doesn't know what to make of me, haha. Even if you don't feel like it, get up and go- walk or swim or something, but get your heart rate up.

And don't worry about your hair- it will grow back. I've been enjoying cycling caps this summer, nice and cool and style and cheap. My favorite says Harley Davidson.

naesha- I worked out, ran and istrengthening throughout chemo. There are moments when you feel totally exhausted. The key is keep on moving. It seems trite but you need to push yourself. And if you're able to walk 20 minutes then slowly increase your exercise time and before you know it you'll be doing 45 minutes to an hour. I wear beanies all the time because I chose not to wear a wig. You'll find out people really aren't interested in you at the gym or outside. If they're not your family and friends when people are exercising they're generally focus on themselves. One step at a time.

Walked to the store to run a couple of errands and grab breakfast. Came home and threw sheets and towels in to wash, vacuumed the stairs, did a small load of dishes and made the bed.

Ginger, aren't those concerts on the beach the best? We went last night, and took a nice long walk on the beach to boot, just beautiful. If you plan to go again let me know, maybe we can meet up and put faces to names. Have fun with all your company.

Still doing my classical stretch, body beginning to feel good from it, and trying for 40 active minutes a day - usually get 8-10k steps in too, steps and active go hand in hand.

I managed to get in two 30 minutes walks today and yesterday thanks to working from home.

Ginger, congrats on your anniversary. Claire 100 degree bike ride is better than a 100 degree run, but still sounds like a challenge.

Nice Colorado pics, Ruth. I notice you have both hands on your young river guide. Let him go, Ruth!

2Fun it was 10 months past surgery before I wasn't just exhausted, not even including exercise - just going to work. My surgeon said up to a year is normal after surgery. I think you'll get there but if it really feels like something could be wrong, maybe have a check-in with your regular doc, in case its something else.

Welcome Naesha, I set exercise goals when I was doing chemo. 4 hours of week of aerobics and 3 of toning. 'Aerobics' was anything where I was moving, even if that meant setting a timer and walking around & around the living room/dining room/kitchen (which it was some days). For toning, I did DVDs, concentrating mostly on my legs & abs at first (because I was nervous to use my arms). I didn't belong to a gym at that time but will echo the thought that people are mostly concentrating on themselves and aren't paying that much attention to anyone else. I think the goal of exercise during chemo (and also when recovering from any surgery) is to just keep as good of a base of fitness as you are able; it will help you bounce back faster/better once you are done.

Went to a forest walk (no pathways) into the hills yesterday, day #3 after AC, made some 4km in the slippery up-down terrain. Today I managed 6km, but with some forest-paths included.

DH went with me, I was afraid to go alone into the woods so soon after chemo.

Not sure whether this is walking or what kind of exercise it is... But I sure got sweaty!

Oh, I'm glad to find this thread!

Though today is not the best day for me exercising: just a half-hour walk with the dog before work. I'll get Taxol in a couple of hours, and go grocery shopping, and go home early to cook and rest and watch my new obsession, The Americans.

naesha - I am doing Taxol before the AC, and I've found that exercise during it really negates the exhaustion. You may be starting from a very different place because I hear the AC is rough! But I do suggest trying some sort of exercise and seeing if it helps. I find that it's rough for about 10 minutes and then I feel much better.

At the beach with my little DS (5) and my dad (80). Tonight we played 18 holes of mini golf and among the three of us there were 8 holes in one. 😄

Do those numbers make sense? I reread and realized there were almost as many numbers as words!

did an hour of deep water aquatic exercise. I could not control my body in the deep water. The teacher was very kind and offered me help and guidance and encouragement when I told her I was struggling with the class. Did another 20 min walk as the sun was setting and almost got run over by a deer!

Yellowb, I loved The Americans! I watched with my oldest DD and we would ask each other if we were emotionally ready to watch each episode. It is intense!

Sorry, I have should have explained. We have 5 acres of woods behind our house and we are clearing a trail that loops back and forth to get as much distance as possible. There are a few hills, as well. I have tried walking on the road near my house, but yesterday some guys went flying by and yelled out the window. Not the first time this has happened, so I am sticking to my property.

Peregrinelady, I see, thanx for explaining. That's somehow what we are doing too, that's why I asked... It gives me such peace to do this in the forest quiet 🙂

But then, we still go a lot through wild forests everywhere. Luckily, we have free entrance in everybody's forests here in Europe, so you can walk miles and miles through the wild

PL, that's great!. We have a street with no sidewalks, but most people in the neighborhood look out for walkers, runners, dogs etc. The deer come crashing out of the woods if they have been scared, and they don't look for anything!

I'm up early on Saturday to get to an early class at the pool. I actually slept ok. It makes me wonder if my problems are AI related or just me!

I talked with my MO yesterday. And he thinks I should consider stopping the AI and trying Tamoxifen. My gyno/oncologist thinks it should be ok even tho I had uterine cancer. I'll have to think about that.

    Have a beautiful day everyone!

Busy week! My 5 day totalk steps was 129,560. Delivered Meals on Wheels in Wednesday. Got a few good pool workouts and I can feel those in my legs. Added a few arm exercises with 5 pound weights. My LE PT said its time to strengthen my arms. I was excited to hear that. I have struggled with the LE for a year!

Took the kids to the Nature Center yesterday and that's a 3 mile hike I think. It was a perfect day a little overcast and barely 80.

    Have a blessed weekend ladies!

    Welcome Jaboo & yellowb.

Yesterday I didn't get any exercise because my Book Club took a field trip to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. We headed for a larger town, had a great lunch, spent a couple hours at Barnes & Noble, a couple hours shopping, had a wonderful dinner and then headed home after 12 hours of food, friends, and fun. I will post a picture of us. We had the discussion of our last book & decided on book #236 in the children's section of Barnes & Noble because the coffee bar was closed for renovations. Since we are all teachers, it was an appropriate meeting place. I just did an hour toning DVD with Denise Austin. This afternoon, DH & I head for an overnight at a Casino. He loves to gamble and I do NOT, but will tag along if there is some entertainment involved; so we are going to a Piano Fondue, which I think is a dueling pianos type of thing. I will spend no more than $20 and then go read a book.
