hi all, been off the board for a while due to extreme business at work. I am unfortunately unable to make the Nashville trip, so if anyone has an urge to join up at the last minute, there's a ticket to the Grand Ole Opry birthday bash and a riverboat cruise all bought & paid for, waiting for someone to use. Patoo says there's room in the condo and this is a VERY fun bunch of women. This is the first trip I've missed so now it's just Cheryl & Ruth who've been to every one. I love my work but hate my job and am looking forward to retirement in 2020.
Nats, happy belated birthday to your DH. :-)

Karen - I’m so sorry for what your friend is going through now. It’s good you’ll be able to spend some time with her.
Ruth - you must be looking forward to the warmer Nashville weather, although it looks like we’ll get some rain. Better than snow!
Badger - I had to miss a few of the trips because of work too, and hated that. Hoping time flies for you in these last couple of years on the job. Retirement is all it’s cracked up to be.
I’ve started packing for Nashville and am heading out to the store to pick up a few travel things. Getting excited

Busted out a workout listening to songs by Alice Cooper, who I got to see in concert last night!

2Fun, I get it. I've attached a photo of my cookbook bible. I love to cook, but it's impossible when, after work, I'm running to soccer games Xc meets and trying to get my own exercise in. I bet you could find it on amazon, even though I've had this cookbook for almost as long as I've been a mom- and my oldest turns twenty in 3 weeks!

I went to a very good Wake Up Yoga this morning. We did a lot of balance moves; something we all need and (at least I) rarely work on. After that I cleaned the house, washed towels/sheets etc. and then joined DH in yard work. We put away hoses, patio furniture etc. I pulled annuals and then we raked and raked and raked.

I voted. AND I remembered to put the proper postage.
LB sorry about L3.
We are still in the process of getting a rescue dog. DD was living and working in the shelter (photo below) to learn about dogcare. We all went out for a walk yesterday with Allie, a hunting dog, and some of her mates, an albino, 2 deaf dogs, one half blind dog and another disabled dog. They were all so well-trained.
Today it's a short bike ride for me. Maybe some weights in the evening.

Mommy - Alice Cooper! That must have been some concert.
Heidi - yay for voting! And whatfun to look for a dog. Let us know who ends up in your home!
Weirdly warm today, so I took advantage of the weather to transplante a few bushes, and now am getting ready to wash the car. We’ve decided to cook out tonight - who knows how much longer we’ll be able to do that?

Have been doing lots of walking in London. Having spent several days with a friend who has 2 dogs, I can say that they certainly keep you moving. Plus visiting a historic house decorated by Robert Adam (Osterly), a walk around a village in the Chilterns (Fingest) in the rain and wind (but fortunately, a lovely wood fire in the pub - not to mention good food), ten miles of waling through Central London today. The place I am staying has about 3 flights of stairs to my room as well.
I think that dragging my suitcase up and down countless stairs in the Underground counts as upper body exercise.
I am having a glorious time. Today, I splurged on a gorgeous pastry, but very basic pub grub this evening as wanted some place comfortable to sit and beer. The pastry was splendid. Visiting the counties via beer, Sam Smith's at the pub (Yorkshire) and St. Austell (Cornwall) right now as I write this. Oxfordshire beer yesterday (Brakspear).
Tomorrow will be museums. Portobello Road is fascinating and very artsy. So fun. I will do some shopping, and just love my new socks.
I am having an amazing time. London is still my favorite city, and so much cleaner than NYC. I am still amazed at how huge it is. Lovely architecture, and I still love the squares and flowers.
I may regret this "Proper Job" beer as 2 flights down to the loo and bathroom (not the same room). My room is basic, but cheap. The owners of this flat are a man who does poetry tours of London and an artist. She has a son who is lovely and quite the cook. (He was whipping up a tomato and pepper soup for their dinner.)
More later. So glad I got to do this trip. Off down the stairs, and then off to bed shortly. - Claire

Sounds like a great trip, Claire!
I went to Pound and walked around the track at the gym for awhile.

Walked with DH early this morning - no evening walk as it is raining out - too hard to walk as we don't want to get soaked. Its not been the greatest week for steps!! The weather is going to be in the 50s this week and wet - the mountains will probably get snow.
Met my gf this afternoon. So sad about her son.....he was 56..she had a feeling something was wrong as he wasn't answering her calls and didn't answer the door - so the next day she decided to go over on Sunday - so her SIL, DD and other son met her at the house - SIL and son found the brother - he had been dead at least a week....thankfully she did not see his body - she showed me his house that she will be selling - her late husband and two sons did all the remodel work - such custom work - beautiful. My heart goes out to her. Brought her a cyclamen.
Want to read tonight and hopefully finish my book. Sweet dreams

I'm glad you got together with your friend, Karen. It DOES help when you have someone you can talk things out with.

karen-so sorry to hear about your gf loss.
Ruth- my mom is incredible. She has always been physically active. In spite of having severe arthritis in both hands she never complains about pain and she loves to walk and hike. Hopefully I have her genetics. I'm not a Nora Roberts fan but two of my sisters love her JD Robb series.

Even if you just have your mom's attitude, Jo, you will always do great!
A cold icy rain is falling here. I planned to walk the grand-puppies, but that is iffy at the moment. I just got back from a hair appointment and am now going to make myself pack (my most dreaded thing) and go to Zumba tonight. Very, very much looking forward to seeing some of you in Nashville TOMORROW!!

I just LOVE that you all are going to Nashville for a fun vacation. I grew up there and will go for Thanksgiving, which is a big family deal every year. It's a fun town and everyone is so very nice. See if you can get out to see some of the old plantations that have been re-made as destinations. My favorite is Cheekwood, which has great grounds for walking and exploring as well. Have a GREAT time!
From my end, I have been riding my mountain bike like crazy. Today might be the last day for a while as it's supposed to snow all week (including Fri-Sat-Sun, when I will recertify my Wilderness First Responder- with some scenarios outside!!!). I am working with a new coach in town so that I can at least postpone having my knee replaced for this winter.
Question for you all- I find myself having varied and strange reactions to October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month- like I "should" have done more to find my bc earlier. I don't want anything to do with pink ribbons or socks or coffee mugs that say "Fuck Cancer" (yes, I was given one of those by a well-meaning friend). Anyone else feeling anything similar or different?

Great picture, Salsa. I know some people really appreciate all the Pink/ October things, which is wonderful,; but they kind of creep me out and I avoid all the pinking as much as possible (except a 5K in the spring where 100% of the money stays local & is used to provide mammograms and pap smears for locallow-income women, I will do pink for that). There's no right or wrong way to feel, and there's no point in looking back at what should or should not have done either. Forward we go.
As you can see, I am still procrastinating about packing.

I still haven't packed yet either ruthbru! Soon, soon, soon. I have until 5:15am when I get picked up.
Salsa, love the picture. I don't sweat the "pink" thing. I put my donations where I wish, providing mammos and resources. A portion of my Amazon purchases goes to BCo (under their smile.amazon program). How many of us knew anything before Dx, very few I think, so for those who don't know any better, at least they care.
See some of you in just a few hours in Nashville. Yippee!

I was given a few pink or bc blankets when I was Dx.....they are all in bags in the closet. For us, its BC awareness every day!!! I volunteer with 2 BC organizations to give back. And of course I come here.
Cold, dreary, damp, drizzly day today.
Today is my mother's birthday - first one without her and its a tough day. My DH got me flowers, carnations which are my favorite with a note saying "remembering Mom on her birthday". He really is a great guy. Talked to DD#2 this morning but she didn't say anything but she asked her Dad how I was doing. BTW, DD#2 got in the math/science series for the year that she needs to apply for engineering next year. She is one happy camper!!!

Those 'firsts' without a loved one a tough. I still have things I want to tell my mom, and she's been gone 15 years.
I have thrown a bunch of things in my suitcase & am not going to open it again until I am in Nashville. The cold, icy rain continues so I will be glad to be elsewhere. Stay tuned for pictures!!!!

standing by, ruth! Have fun everyone going to Nashville! Really awesome picture, salsa! Congrats on DD2's getting into the course, karen, and yes, what a great DH. Bar hopping sounds like fun, Claire.
Caught a bug and taking a rest day.

Hi Sisters-
I'm so happy for all of you heading to Nashville! My plan is to make it to a gathering someday! Can't retire til 2029, so.:.
Today I ran three miles and now I'm off to the little DS soccer game. It's my birthday today, and I have to say I feel great for 48!!

Happy Birthday Falconer!
Thanks for the food ideas everyone. I forgot to say DH will not eat anything in a casserole, or mixed up. I think he ate too many of those when he was young!
Drove 1000 miles to see DS play ultimate Frisbee, and the tournament was cancelled. So we hung out, saw other family, watched the Brewers WIN!!! and I even used the hotel workout room. I was able to go faster than usual, and did great with weight lifting, and crunches. Later that day my back just seized up, this has happened once before. Two days later I still can barely move. Hope its better by tomorrow!
Safe travels to all going south. I will hopefully be retiring in 9 years, maybe longer. I guess it all depends on how fast DH finds a job. With 2 incomes we can retire sooner!

Happy Birthday, Falconer!
We all arrived safely in Nashville after a very long travel day. We bought a bunch of munchies so we could relax and visit. Tomorrow we will tour and go honky tonkin'
Wonderland, Twohobbies, sweetandspecial, patio, pat01, hbcheryl, natsfan and me in front.

Happy Birthday Falconer!!! Have fun in Nashville ladies!!

Girls, you look great together!! I came across this image of a young BC thriver, as she calls herself- She's in Nashville. Maybe you'll come across this mural.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I dont usually make a big deal about my bday. And about halfway through the work day I realized none of the 100+ people I work with knew. But here, we all count birthdays (I think) a little differently than the general population. Forward motion, hooray!!
