I've just given up on the gym till this smoke passes. I couldn't even walk in San Francisco during my visit. It was unacceptably smokey there too. Sacramento air is hazardous. I'm hoping it will rain (it's in the forecast) this next Wednesday. Then I'll be back to the gym. I came out of my treatment 5 pounds heavier and the combo of the gym and being at work where I don't boredom eat has made the weight loss pretty effortless. Surprisingly I've been completely inactive (except at work) for the last 5 days and was down a whole pound at the scale this morning. I know it's water retention fluctuations from chemo but still feels like progress.

karen- what a difficult time this must be for you having to deal with both the loss of your mother and your uncle. My thoughts are with you. Holidays are always the hardest when dealing with a loss.

A cold, icy day here, but we didn't get the predicted 6 inches of snow; so that is good. I slid over to the fitness center for Aqua Zumba this morning & yoga tonight & slid around town doing errands in between.
Karen, we will have a hard Thanksgiving too. Our niece, whose mom just died, has hosted it the last number of years (big house out in the country, room for kids to play inside & out, puppies are welcome etc. etc.). Another of DH's sisters is going to have it at her house instead, just so things will be a little different and hopefully a little tiny bit easier. Holidays are tough, the first ones after a loss especially.

ruth- you're right. The first holiday after a loss is so difficult. Hopefully your family will find some comfort in the wonderful memories you have of your sister-in-law.

today is my first 5k Zen run. We start out with 1/2 hour of meditation and stretching followed by the 5K. The emphasis on the 5K today is mindfulness as we run. Looking forward to it. The sunrise is so beautiful.. what a great way to start a day.

Jo, thanks for sharing the beautiful photo this morning and enjoy your zen run.
Ruth so glad your husband found that clot in good time.
I got off my death bed to vote. I wanted to make sure I sent my message to Washington and preserved my democratic rep, whom I really like and is very local and responsive. As I signed in, I thought Dear God I hope this shaky signature matches. I was thrilled to see two early twenties election judges there this time. I know my 22 year old is passionate but glad to see other young people getting involved. It was interesting how many close races there were, and another FL recount.
By Friday I was back at the doctor as the fever had contined for two weeks. He admitted me to the hospital. After a week I am back home finally fever free but feel as weak as after chemo. I certainly hope I am not as that was a long road back.
Today we have soft snow falling and this would be my ideal winter walk but I will have to watch from the window or maybe I could plod100 ft or so-LOL.

Twohobbies- of course Florida has to recount. It wouldn't be an election unless we had a recount here. I was very proud to see so many young people out voting and volunteering on campaigns.

Beautiful picture & the Zen run sounds amazing, Jo.
Gosh Twohobbies, I hope you start to feel better soon, sounds like you've had an awful time.
It is 'shop small businesses Saturday' so I am off in a few minutes to check things out. Later on DH & I will go look for some outdoors Christmas decorations that don't involve climbing up on the roof (for stringing lights). I don't want him to go up there & I, for sure, am not! Still cold and icy so I will do some sort of exercise DVD later.

Karen sending you a big (((hug))) for many many years I stayed home on my own on Christmas Day as I had such wonderful memories of Christmasses with my parents and after they had both passed away it was my day of reflection and remberance of them, yes I was always invited to join many friends with their families but for me it just didn't seem right I finally relented and joined my friends who I celebrate Thanksgiving with as their Christmas is a buffet that goes all day and card and board games and my family were all about the card games as well so I feel comfortable with them.
TH my gosh you've been through the wringer I hope that each day you are feeling stronger and stronger, big (((hug)))
Ruth my neighbor across the street usually puts up my Christmas lights for me but he had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago so I was thinking no outside lights for me this year just inside decorating, well imagine my surprise on Friday when I was rinsing out some containers at the hose in front and I turned around to see him walking up on his roof sealing around his chimney stacks, my heart went up into my mouth as I watched him and then I spoke to his wife and she's like, no our light go up and next day yours make sure to get the boxes out, yikes!!!
Ellyn make sure you listen to your body and rest if you're sore.
Jo your sunrise is gorgeous.
LB well I met your idol on Thursday and all I can say is that she is as warm and friendly IRL as she appears on screen. I was fortunate to get a front row spot totally out of my back row comfort zone but I wasn't missing this opportunity for the world, we did the releases for Pump and Combat that they just filmed in Shanghai, there is a new push up combo and at one point she looked at me and gestured to move my knees in a little, I corrected and she gave me that big glowing smile - so she really watches, corrects and connects. They are here filming an ad, Friday was in Beverly Hills on top of L'Hermitage hotel and yesterday was in Newport Beach they filmed in a private home but were staying at Fashion Island.
I spent yesterday visiting my friend who is having chemo for her gall bladder cancer, and ended up in hospital the week after her daughters wedding but swears she'll tough it out at home from now on as she lost 5lbs in hospital and is looking extremely gaunt, she did have another round this week and fared much better.
LB - this is for you

Oh, even reading about anyone even thinking of going up on roofs makes me uncomfortable...that's how we lost my BIL when he fell while on a ladder to the roof a few years ago...so tell those who do try it to be careful, please!!!
And Ruth, yes, DVT can be hereditary and I agree that your hubby should see a specialist given his family history. My own hubby went through that about ten years ago, but thankfully he is fine now. One of our good friends was a pharmacist who helped develop some of the then current blood thinning medication protocols, and having his advice was very helpful.
I've had house guests, and spent yesterday on a hike in a local petroglyph reserve. It was a spectacular way to get my exercise. Here are a few pics...
Oh! and my niece had her baby boy late last night! All are doing well and as soon as my Sis the proud Grandma sends pics I will post one.

POUND followed by walking around the track at the gym for half an hour. We did go buy some on the ground decorations so we'll see how we like them (we decorate Thanksgiving weekend so we can enjoy the the sparkle for awhile before we have to take it down again).

Lilac, here's a little info about my favorite Ashtanga teacher:
I took my first Ashtanga class with him and I was hooked. 😊 Good luck with the primary series!

octogirl- what a beautiful view. I'm putting lights around my roof but I'm not going up on the roof. I'm going to use a ladder and a friend of mine is coming over to stabilize the ladder. If I don't have a friend to assist me there won't be lights around the roof. I'll just have to put extra lights on the fence and the porch. Safety first. Approximately 4 years ago I climbed on the roof to check something out and my dogs knocked over the ladder. I was on the roof for almost 4 hours without a cell phone. It was a quiet Sunday morning so no humans in sight. Finally my neighbor and his wife arrived home from church and rescued me. That was the last time I was on any roof. If I have to climb on a ladder I make sure there are no dogs in the area.LOL

I got an email this morning from my cousin - my aunt fell on stairs last week and broke 3 vertabre in her neck and had surgery to fuse them. She is in a lot of pain and has no use of her right arm. My cousin is going to take an extended leave and go stay with her mother for a few months. I feel so helpless so far away. My aunt lives in Montreal. Her kids live in Ontario and in Banff. M aunt is the wife of my uncle who passed away the end of September. I'm just devastated. I've got a call into my cousin. Wednesday would have been my uncle's 80th birthday and I had been planning to call my aunt then. 2018 has been a hard year for family health or lack thereof.

karen- I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope she'll feel better soon. Hopefully 2019 will be a much better year for you.

Cheryl, thank you for posting the photo of you and Diana! Reads as two awesome classes and true master trainer, does pause to look and correct. Lucky you and good that you friend is feeling better. Octo, like the photos and congrats on the new niece. Falconer, my YTT instructor was a devotee of Ashtanga and fell away from it when he got into movement over shape. Enjoyed the workshop and Erika the teacher is the only one in this area offering Ashtanga - she is excellent. Karen, good to read your aunt is on the mend and I second a better year - 2019. Off to shower and get this day going as Pink Ribbon Pilates at 11am, BB early evening. Have a good start to the week everyone.

TwoHobbies: I hope you are feeling stronger and stronger every day.
Octo: Really cool pictures!
Karen: I am so sorry about your aunt. Thankful that your cousin will be there for her.
Hi Everyone! Raked for 2 hours yesterday. Then raked again for 90 minutes today......and the leaves keep falling. Also walked/ran late this afternoon.

So sorry about your aunt, Karen. What a blessing that your cousin can take that amount of time to be with her!
Jo,what a crazy story of being trapped on the roof by your naughty dogs!
It is still COLD here (the windchill was minus 8 this morning). I ran the dogs around the block and went to Zumba (to try to warm up!).

ruth- I cannot even fathom how a person can even function in minus 8 degrees. You don't let horribly cold weather or anything else slow you down for long. I admire that about you. My thoughts will be with you during your Thanksgiving holiday because it's going to be a difficult one for you and your family. May good memories of your departed loved ones help you. Cope during this time.

Semi productive day today - grocery store and bank this morning - this afternoon, I took everything off my dresser and gave it a long overdue dusting.....I collect beanie bears and had way too many on my dresser for years and years. Dusted the off in the dryer and then put the majority (maybe 3/4) in a plastic bag in my closet....Left the special ones out. Also threw out old nail polish that I don't use, didn't bother to see if any was still good or not!!
Tomorrow, I hope to dust the dining room - all the china tea cups and saucers from my mother and grandmother - plus whatever else needs dusting. Wednesday, we are doing Thanksgiving, so it will a cooking day - turkey, stuffing, yams, cranberries, pecan and pumpkin pie - my son wants both pies. I can probably get it all done in the morning.
And I must not forget to do my work for my class as it is due on the 28th - I haven't really done much, so its most of the work for the class.
Sweet dreams....

I was born in Vermont when it was -20F and think I am calibrated accordingly. I remember begging my father to go to the woods when it was +10F and I was a ripe old age of 2. I love the cold and don't understand why anyone would want to live in a climate where it was regularly over 80F. I know I am one of the odd ones out, but that is me. I find it very funny what people in Washington State or NYC think is "cold".
I remember my mother telling her dog (when she was in her mid 70s) that -29F=no walk.
To stay warm, you eat items like this, the French Onion Soup which I made last night....
Looking forward to ski season. Just love the seasons, but not the hot days of summer. - Claire

claire, I second you on the not liking over 80 degrees. We have had weather almost 20 degrees colder than normal for over 2 weeks with no end in sight. Last week we got 14 inches of snow and the high for thanksgiving day is 20 degrees F.
Karen, I'm praying for you and your family. It is stressful when things happen to the ones you love.
I did something funky to my knee, and I think it is pretty serious. It's totally unstable when I straighten my leg. Not good in the kind of work I do. Also have my second UTI in 2 months, after going 7 months without one. With this knee I haven't been able to exercise.
Have a good Thanksgiving to all those celebrating!

claire- I am far past the age where I enjoy weather in the high 80s and 90s. Being a South Florida girl, my perfect weather is about low 70s to mid-70s and sunny. In my family were dragging out scarves sweaters and boots when it hits the low sixties. The snow looks beautiful, though. The French onion soup looks divine.
2FUN-How soon are you able to see a doctor for an assessment on your knee? Are you able to wear a knee brace to provide temporary stability until you are able to have it checked out? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving morning I have a 5k Turkey Run whuch starts at 6:00 am. I had my Thanksgiving dinner with friends a couple weeks ago. Thursday morning I'm going to do some volunteer work and then the rest of the day I will work on Christmas decorations. I am looking forward to it. A lazy afternoon and evening with just me and the dogs and cats. Perfection . Saturday, my very large family is going to spend the day with my nephew and his wife and beautiful baby Serenity. We are all very anxious to see the new baby. I don't even mind the 3-hour drive to Port Charlotte. I just have to get back to Miami before dark. I'm not allowed to drive at night because of my cataracts. Cataract surgery is scheduled Monday morning. Hallelujah.

2FUN: Are you taking Arimidex? I had nasty UTIs while I was on it. Luckily they stopped once I was off the medication.
jo: your Thanksgiving sounds nice and relaxing. Happy you will be getting rid of your cataracts!
Claire: your soup looks delicious!
I need to visit a friend today, go to the grocery store, and get my walk/run in before 5:30 (too dark to walk outside after that).

octogirl-any pics of the great nephew yet?

Karen so sorry about your aunt and I put in two new lightbulbs in my bathroom on sunday those fancy new kind that are supposed to last for 10000 years and while up there I flicked all the dust off the top of the medicine cabinet, well sheesh the room is now as bright as one of those operating room lights and dust bunnies are my new pets'
Jo how harrowing to be stuck up on the roof, naughty dogs.
Ruth I am in awe of you, I was absolutely freezing yesterday - Sunday was 80s and yesterday dropped o 50s, honestly I couldn't get warm, I walked around all day in a fleecy jacket and then swaddled myself in a blanket when I got home cause I was so cold and really didn't feel like going to the gym but I did drag myself out and went and did a 30 minute RPM class.

cheryl- have you named your new dust bunnies?

Claire, that soup looks delicious!!
I subbed today & will do so again tomorrow. 8th grade Science (yikes) for a young teacher having some medical problems. I went to Aqua Zumba tonight & am trying to convince myself to do some abs (it might not happen!).
60-70 degrees would be my perfect weather, but I would gladly take anything from 50-80.
