You gals are indeed inspirational. I applaud every one of you. Welcome Mountain Mia. One of the posters above got it right- play it by how it feels, but do something every single day to get outside and get your heart rate up.

I never asked my surgeon and he never instructed me... but I went mountain biking and to the gym as soon as I got my drains out in January 2018, after single mastectomy and nodes/ port a week later. Emotional health was so incredibly important (but not beyond common sense).

I subbed today in a really hard classroom......and will be back there tomorrow. Argh!!! No fun at all. I am already plotting how to do things differently to hopefully have a better day. I was so zonked when I cam home that I took a nap! I now have just gotten back from my Book Club & will jump on the treadmill for a little while before calling it a night.

Thanks to everyone for your loving thoughts and concern. One thing I know about being diagnosed with cancer is that I have lost a huge amount of control over my life. I certainly will get to make choices as I go through treatment, but they will be limited, and regardless of choice I make, there will be potentially serious consequences.

Like you, I have lost a significant amount of control. Perhaps that's why I am bristling so much at being TOLD what to do or NOT do. I have already said I did not lift 15 pounds today, that it would be too much for me, that I would lay low tomorrow. I have already said that. Please consider when you give advice just how you frame that. Consider how it comes across to someone who, like you, is already giving up a significant amount of control over their life.

Again, thank you for your concern. And of course if I ask for advice, I'll be so happy for any help you can give. But I don't need to be told what to do.

I didn't wait for the drains to be out to go cycling. But I did ask my surgeon if OK and she didn't say no. Was thinking today that I need to ramp up the cycling, so 60 miles on the agenda for Saturday. This tones the nether regions in addition to all the muscle groups. Did a 5 mile run this evening with a stop to gather oyster mushrooms for dinner.

It's been wild here with work, but on top of everything. Major progress on all fronts, including pushing back a research project one month. A major win, especially since now much more lucrative, not to mention infinitely better timing.

But I might not make it to tomorrow as may expire from the scent of roasting veggies, including the aforesaid mushrooms. Have halibut as the protein. Yum!!!! - Claire

Subbed again in the same class as yesterday. I used all my teacher tricks, so it went better; but by the end of the day, I felt more like a prison guard who quelled a breakout than a teacher! I took a little walk after school & went to Dance2Fit tonight.

God bless you Ruth, for going back. We need subs so desperately in our district.

Claire. Can I come over for supper?

Tonight I went to yoga class and fell asleep during savasana. Haven’t done that in a while-

MountainMia: Welcome. Sending a ((Big Hug)) your way. In no way I'm I telling you what to do, but Ativan sure helped me chill out when I needed to.

Ruth: When an experience, seasoned teacher like you has a hard time with a class then you know it's really bad! I bet the walking and dancing helped.

Hi Everyone! Been off the board for awhile. I had an echocardiogram for my Afib. Luckily it showed normal heart function and normal changes due to age. I'm still having episodes of afib since the last time I posted but (knock wood) they are getting further apart. I have another EKG next week. Plus, in May I'm getting a second opinion. I'm really happy about that decision.

I've been able to push mow with no problem. Also I've walked several times but decided not to run. Today dh and I planted our garden.

Happy Belated Easter and Passover to all. I actually made Hot Cross Buns for the first time. Now you're going to be singing the nursery rhyme for the rest of the night!

Been doing classical stretch more days than not, and today went on a nice hike in the woods with friends. Slowly I am starting to feel less like a slug and more like my old self.

I did my first HIIT workout since dx, chemo, and surgery. Man, I sure am weak!! Only used 2lb hand weights to start because I’m so scared I’ll decelop lymphedema. I’m a few days into radiation and wearing my compression sleeve constantly during the day. For those of you that had TEs and had your exchange, does exercise get more comfortable with implants? Jumping around with these filled TEs wasn’t the easiest.

Fritz, I once read that however long you're in 'active treatment' (and I consider being in the midst of reconstruction as still being in treatment), expect that it will take that long again to get fully back to 'normal'. Personally, I found that it was more like double that amount of time. Frustrating, but it will happen because you're working on it.

I went to Zumba, did some housework, went and got the puppies (DS is out of town for the day) and took them for a long, windy walk at the golf course. A cold front is coming in so I'm glad we got out today. I'm going to PiYo tonight.

HI all, sorry haven't been on in a few months and too busy to try and catch up. I'm on the computer almost every day so have no excuse not to come over and post. Anyway, on way to gym right now. I've been doing very well. Have lost about 45 lbs over 5 years and my eating is getting much better so should be able to continue the downtrend or at least maintain where I'm at.

My previous MO moved just before my appointment with her in February. Finally my new MO got all my records going back 10 years and saw him this morning. Everything is great and he took me off Arimidex!!!!! Yay! My 10 years are DONE! That also may help with keeping the weight off and perhaps I get to now stop shaving my chin.

Oops, off to the gym. Later my sculpted friends.

Patoo that’s amazing news!! Congrats on 10 years!!

Ruth, I love PiYo! It was one of my favorite workouts before my diagnosis. I’ve yet to get back into it. I don’t think I could handle the planks yet.

No dedicated exercise for me today. Cleaning the house, rads, and then picking up the kids from school early once hubby gets home and heading to St. Louis for the weekend for my niece’s birthday. It’s about a 5.5 hour drive so my Fitbit will record lots of sitting today. Maybe we’ll have time to swim in the hotel pool tonight.

Congratulations on your awesome news, Patoo!!! What a happy day! Happy

Fritz, don't worry; you will be planking again!

I subbed in the library today. It was busy but fun (especially compared to my subbing experience earlier this week). I walked on the treadmill & did a 45 minute toning tape with Denise Austin tonight.

Congrats on your medication graduation, Patoo!

We had a gorgeous weekend last weekend and I got in two walks on Saturday, one on Sunday plus lawn mowing, weeding, and replanting. During the week I did less but still keeping up the dog walks and stair routine at work. Today we are actually expecting snow 3 to 5 inches. It was 81 Easter Sunday. I so hope this does not materialize!

Subbing in the library sounds like my cup of tea, Ruth.

Fritz, I was so weak after chemo and thought I may never be the same but you will improve.

Wonderland it sounds like you are doing a little better with the afib. I love hot cross buns but my family does not so I don’t dare buy or make any. I would eat them all.

    Have a great weekend, all!

Thanks everyone. Scary but I feel renewed. Took that sucker for so long it's a weird feeling it not being in with my morning meds.

TH, I love hot cross buns also but refuse to buy because I would eat the whole pack in one sitting (well maybe 2 sittings but it would be in the same day!)

Heading out for a walk then to the gym. Later sculpted friends.

I went to PiYo again this morning (so have done enough planks for the both of us, Fritz) & then walked around the track for awhile.

My mother made the best Hot Cross Buns ever! No, I don't dare make them either because, like Patoo, I'd eat them all in one day!

mountainmia- I was walking up and down the hospital halls the day after I had my double mastectomy. My surgeon encouraged exercise from day one. Upon returning home I covered my drains and I walked 2 miles within 3 days post-op. I ran a 5k within 3 weeks post-op. Okay, if I'm being completely honest, the first 5k was mostly walking with a little bit of running. I did not have reconstruction. I listened to my body and I felt great. I did not use weights on my upper body the first 3 weeks but I used weights on my lower extremity within a week. We're all different. We have different Fitness levels and different responses to treatments. It's never cut and dried. Listen to your body.

I went to Pound this afternoon. As I was leaving I spied a friend who had been in Arizona all winter walking around the track, so I walked & talked with her for about 45 minutes.

Patoo - congrats on being done Arimidex - 10 years is a milestone

My DD and SIL left this morning. My house is all put back from Passover

Finally, after sitting in the crawl space for over 25 years - I threw away all the notebooks, journals and journal articles from my PhD program. I finished classes in 1985 and earned my doctorate in 1990. I haven't looked at any of this stuff since I moved into this house and probably not since I defended my dissertation. Now to figure out what to do with textbooks that are over 30 years old!!

Yesterday I sat outside reading in the sun - the weather is changing - very windy and snow tomorrow afternoon!!! I'm co-facilitating a 2 day training tomorrow and Tuesday - tomorrow is a professional development day - it is for School Psychologists and School Social Workers - crisis prevention, intervention and postvention. My co-facilitator and I took the trainer of trainer course in the fall and this is the first time we are teaching it. Best get busy reviewing the materials. Need to put my schedule in my phone so I show up in the right place!!

    Sweet dreams

    That tulip field looks gorgeous!

I'm so excited that I was cleared today from my mastectomy to start working out again! Today I'll be doing a low impact ride on my Peloton to ease back into working out after not being able to for a month.

I can tell the effect its had on me mentally to not being getting work outs. I'm happy to be back not just for my physical health but for my mental too!

    Welcome, Poised!!

I walked the puppies this afternoon (even though it was COLD out.....36 degrees.....we are apparently going backward weather-wise). New puppy gets bored & naughty when left alone too long. This morning she found an old Halloween make-up kit under a bed, and at noon DS came home to find 'modern art' all over his floor, walls, and bedding! I went to Zumba tonight.

Looks like I'm stuck inside for my workouts this week. Supposed to rain every day until Friday. 4 miles on the elliptical yesterday, and I'm planning on the same today.

Patoo - congrats on being done!

Claire - what a beautiful picture!

I've been getting in some nice hikes with friends the last couple of weeks, and being pretty faithful with classical stretch every day. Pretty sore in places, but it's a good sore, things are happening with my body. Off to the dentist in a few for a crown - ugh!
