Today I had time for thirty minutes on the treadmill.

Found out today from another survivor who I met here that a dear friend from down under who I first met here on bco and then twice when she visited Denver passed away. It breaks my heart - she was young - late 60s - originally diagnosed late 2006. I will miss her posts on fb. So sad.

I am so sorry, Karen.

Man it's cold. I ran 5.6 miles today, temp was 23, wind chill 11. That's a lot of wind

Did over 10,000 steps today, incisions healing well. I do however have a seroma under my armpit that will be drained on Monday if it doesn't go down. Walking feels so good. I can't wait until I can get back to gym again

Hope the seroma goes away on its own, Martaj!
I went to Pound & Yoga this morning, ran a bunch of errands, walked & hung out with the puppies (it actually warmed up really nice today). My Book Club meets this evening and I leave for Florida at 9:30 am tomorrow. Have I packed yet? No, I am just washing clothes right now.

Ruth -its only 5:36 your time -plenty of time to pack between and and your 9:30 flight tomorrow morning. Have a great time in FL.
Speaking of packing -I need to gather all my stuff and throw it into my carry-on and "personal" bag. I'm flying SW and forget to check in this morning even after sending myself an email last night. Didn't remember to check in til close to 3 this afternoon and my flight is 9:20 in the morning (I'm on Eastern time) I"m C-47, so one of the last to board the plane - guaranteed middle seat -only hoping there is room for my carry-on.
The conference (NASP) has been good. Over the past 2 1/2 days I attended 10 or 11 sessions and over half were great. One was blah and the others were good. Paid for some extra credit and those professional development sessions were all good. I need the credits for my national certification. I renew again in 2022 and then will probably renew one more time and I'm done. National certification renews every 3 years. My Colorado dept of Education license also renews in 2022 but it renews for 5 years so that will probably be my last time. I doubt I'll be working past 2027 (I'll be 71).
I'm sure I'll be behind at work next week. I didn't check emails til the end of the day. I got one from my former intern who is finishing her second year post grad school and wrote me asking for advice. She is already feeling burned out. She has an infant born last summer for maybe 6 o 7 months added to the mix. I wrote her back asking her to text me when a good time to call. I won't write anything in a work email. I have some thoughts and sage advice but not to be put in a work email. She is really strong.
My son's best friend (and like my 2nd son) flew to Denver tonight as his father had surgery earlier this week and in the hospital. My husband told him that we would come see him on Sunday - which of course I want to do. I know his dad too. When I was going through chemo my son and J went on vacation together with J's father as well as another trip before that. J's late mother was my best friend. J still has a key to my house!!!
Looking forward to getting home. I need to order Uber by 7:15 or 7:30 at the latest.
Sweet dreams.

Yoga class this afternoon.

Ok. I hate exercising and I don't do anything except be on my feet for Half a day cooking and doing light house work. So I am going to force myself to join your thread so I go on the Peloton or walk my dog, or whatever I can manage. See you tomorrow

We'll be expecting reports, nono! If you make a commitment to exercise for X amount of time every day and then keep at it (whether you feel like it or not), it will get easier. And, believe it or not, eventually it might even get fun! If you have a dog, it's a perfect way to get some exercise. Plus you will be your dog's very favorite person in the process!!
Hope you have a smooth flight, Karen. Glad you can be a support to your old intern. We need to keep good young teachers/counselors in the field. And it is a lot harder than when we started out! Glad you will get to see your 'other son'. We have some 'kids' like that too and I love when we can spend time with them. It's now 10:16 pm and I just got back from my Book Club evening. Should I start to pack now, or just get up really early? Decisions, decisions.....

I think the key to sticking with exercise is to find one you enjoy--otherwise, what a drag every day!

After 80 days in a row of gloom, we are finally getting a few days of sunshine! I went for a 5k run yesterday after finishing up a number of work assignments. It was wonderful. Then I used my soup maker for leek and potato soup which I think is the best I have ever had. I have two more large servings. Then a nap, and a chat with a friend, followed by a dinner of clean-out-the-freezer choucroute.
I think another run this afternoon, and the route I don't do that often. Will be fun to see the pond after the winter. It's starting to smell like spring here and daffodils are coming up. Still great snow on the mountains, so headed up again on Sunday for more Nordic in my favorite place ever to ski. Hoping I can do the climb all the way up under Silver Peak. But only if there is a view.
Tomorrow won't be a lot of exercise, but I am counting the Polar Plunge as a life milestone. It takes at 1p PST. I am counting on it being less of a shock to the system than say, the Chilly Hilly cycling event 3 years ago. Temps for that were in the 40s with pelting rain. The Polar Plunge will be over in a couple of minutes. Then I get something hot to drink plus lifetime bragging rights.
More great news is that I am about half done with the weight loss, and on target time-wise. So two more months of no wine (other than social events). That will take me into cycling season. I expect to be svelte for my trip to Oxford and Bath in early June. Clothes are fitting infinitely better and wardrobe options are expanding. There really is hope!
Reading these posts, I can see how fortunate I am exercise-wise; I love being outdoors. I love to ski and cycle, and the 5k runs get me out into nature. True, I don't much enjoy doing crunches or lifting, but each takes about 10 minutes and is relatively painless (unless I have been skiing....difficult this week). The results are worth it because who wants flabby arms or legs, not to mention much better balance and flexibility. My measure of success is still getting checked out long past the age where I ever imagined this would happen.
Wish me "bon courage" tomorrow! - Claire

Claire - you’re an inspiration. Got on the Peloton this morning - fast and furious. I don’t love any exercise so it is a drag. But I’ll keep pushing myself. I will walk the dog later, too. Everyone here is an inspiration

Ruth - I won't see "my other son" till Sunday. I got home around noon and was exhausted. I'm sure I'll fall asleep early tonight. The flight was uneventful and I got lucky and didn't have to check my carry-on and got an aisle seat. 4 hours is a long flight! It is gorgeous in Denver today so went for a long walk this afternoon. Its sunny and in the mid 50s but snow is back Sunday!!
Claire - we need to see before and after pictures when you get to your goal weight. I love potato leek soup. What is a soup maker? I just use a large pot -am I missing out on a good appliance? I often will put soup in the crock pot on warm after it is cooked over Shabbat so we can have soup for lunch when it is COLD out. I love hearty soups. You are brave to do a POLAR PLUNGE!!! When I went snorkeling this past winter in Eilat, I was so cold and shivering and nauseated, my DH thinks I was getting hypothermic. I've never been that cold in my life, I think I would now be afraid to do a Polar Plunge. Have fun and share pictures if you take any of the event.
Nono - welcome
Great walking day - 19k steps but no walk after dinner tonight as DH is in OR. I don't like to walk alone at night if I can prevent it.
Have a good week-end.

Today was a 10 mile run--this is the longest I've run since I fractured my pelvis in May 2018, and since the breast cancer dx and treatment April through June, 2019. I'm tired but happy.

Did it!!! The big surprise was that not nearly as cold as I had imagined it would be. Such as the time I swam in the Cowlitz River. Celebrated with poutine and beers. - Claire

Whoo hoo, Claire!
I had nice smooth flights and landed in rainy Florida 10:30 last night. It cleared up long enough for a nice beach walk. No wading into the water as there were wild, wild waves coming in and riptide warnings.

Love the photos--we're getting more snow this week, which I'm guessing you would get before me since you're in SD? But not this week!
Today's run called for a four mile "tired leg run" --that's what my training plan called it. I actually felt really good today, which was nice since I'd done the 10 miles yesterday. It helped a lot that the wind child was in the lower 40s and not the lower 20s.

You are all an inspiration. I am doing a little of Peloton and walking the dog. I have to drag myself to do them but reading your posts get me moving. Thank you

Way To Go Claire! As you said, now you have lifetime bragging rights. Cute outfit!
Ruth: That last picture is fabulous!
edj: Glad your trainer is working out for you!
nono: You got this!
Hi Everyone! I've been walking/running since I last posted. Really need to get in the yard and pick up sticks and limbs. It's not my favorite yard work so I've been putting it off.

Walked to yoga class took class and then came home and worked in the yard- doing the work you have to do, Wonder. My little DS went into the woods while I worked and came out dragging a twenty foot long oak branch. He wanted it “for his room”. 😂 It felt so good to be outside as the sun was shining and beautiful

Hey ladies. I've been wanting to get back into exercise again, it's been a long while! You guys are amazing with your work outs. Hopefully I'll be joining you!
Started with a 3 mile walk today. Guess I'll get there slowly but surely lol

Welcome LiveLoveLaugh!

LiveLoveLaugh, slowly is best and welcome! Enjoying your photos Claire & Ruth. How did you fit that branch in Falconer? HeidiHill, have you been to NYC and back to support your brother? Hope all is going as well as possible for him. Waving at you Wonderland!
Hey, it's been busy, I'm on an intense course to teach postural stability (for falls prevention). This will be going on a for a bit as it ends in June. Booked on a yoga retreat in October in the hinterlands of Scotland at EcoYoga . Come October the chill out time will be most welcome. Anyway, this is my full day of 4 classes at two different locations and I need to fill the car with bolsters and blankets and then my Pilates stuff as it's Pink Ribbon Pilates at 11am. Rain and grey here. Have a good start to the week everyone!

Here in RI it actually was sunny and in 50's. Great walk with hubby along beach. Still have large seroma under my armpit where lymph nodes were removed hopefully will be drained again today. Doing well

Thank you ladies and beautiful pictures Ruth!

You ladies are amazing! And I am incredibly jealous of the awesome pictures! Today was my first "approved" day of any overhead weight moves and was also arm day at the gym. A little tender, but I kept the weight light and got through it! Keep on pushing, everyone!
