    Lilac - love it

Over 16K steps to day - first time I'm past 15K since DH got sick. 3 walks around the block with him plus 2 of my regular walks. went to the grocery store with the over 60 etc crowd at 7:00am. Long line when I parked right at 7 - store was crowded, shelves empty and lines 4 and 5 deep to pay. It took me 1.5 hours! Not happening again. Will order online to pick up. I needed kosher beef and chicken as well as Passover items so I ordered from the kosher market and having it delivered. This is the first time I've ever ordered from a grocery store - hopefully they'll get it right - tough part is chicken and meat is by # so total may be more than it showed. I'm a pro ordering from Amazon and other online business.

Denver is on mandatory lock down! Only essential businesses are open (which includes liquor stores)! At least we can take walks in the neighborhood.

    Stay safe and stay healthy

I'm no longer going to go to grocery stores - will all be online. I went to King Soopers (Kroger Company) yesterday morning at 7:00am for the 60+ crowd. There was a line already at 7:00 when I parked. The aisles were crowded between employees doing their best to stock shelves, and grocery buggies and everyone trying to keep their distance. I kept my buggy a the end of the aisle and would walk to get what I needed. So many empty shelves. Limitations on several items - which is what should have been for the past few weeks. IT took me 1.5 hours to get in and out of the store. Of course I did a week's worth of shopping instead of my usual every couple days. I needed to get kosher poultry and beef and Passover goods, so I decided to order from the kosher deli/market and pay the $12 to have it delivered. This morning they are having shopping hours especially for the 60+ and medical crowd, but I wouldn't have gone anyways. This is the first time I've ever ordered groceries online. I'm a pro at Amazon and other online vendors but I've always liked the control of getting what I need/wanted at the grocery store when I wanted.

Yesterday the Denver mayor ordered lockdown till April 10th ( we had been shelter in place) and closed all non essential business effective 5pm today. There was a mad rush to liquor stores and marijuana shops. I was one who went as I needed to get wine for Passover. I managed to keep my 6 feet from the person in front of me. It helped that I mentioned that my DH just had surgery and I needed to keep him healthy, had small stretchy gloves on and put my coat over my face. After an hour or two, the mayor rescinded his order about liquor stores and pot shops and said that they would be considered essential businesses and could stay open.

DH just does not want me going in stores!!! His follow up with cardiothorasic (sp) surgeon on Thursday is now going to be by phone. DH had talked to NP in the morning to ask questions. He has days with more energy and other days of total fatigue. This morning he woke up feeling good :). My 6 month oncologist follow up on Thursday is still on - just got a text reminder. They have set very strict rules including no one but the patient allowed in the clinic. DH was not going to come with mine (and he's made probably 95%+ appointments over the past 14 years. Wondering if I'll get my Prolia shot?

Weather is going to be beautiful today so going to take a few long walks and sit out and soak up Vitamin D while reading.

    Stay safe and healthy.

Some chain stores (Walmart I know for sure) and our local grocery stores have some early hours where only older shoppers and those with health problems can shop before the hordes come in. Walmart's is one hour before the regular opening time on Tuesdays. I don't need anything there right now, but will go over next Tuesday early and look for some storage bins (for our cleaning out the backroom project) and other things that I know I will be low on by then.

Just did a 20 minute toning online video, will walk the grandpuppies this afternoon, try out a Zoom Zumba workout at 4:00 (a friend who teaches Zumba at a different fitness center than mine is putting together an online class and tonight she's tweaking it), and I will do video chat PiYo class at 5:30.

According to musical theory, when playing in 432 tuning, middle C is closer to 256Hz, a frequency that is a multiple of 8Hz, which is more commonly known as "the heartbeat of the planet. 432 Hz musical therapy helps ease anxiety, bring down heart rate and blood pressure, and generally has a soothing effect.

Lilac, that is great! Thank you for sharing.

We have a management area behind our neighborhood, so yesterday a few of us neighbors got together for a quick hike. It was nice to see people you know while social distancing outside. It was a quick hike because 2 of my neighbors are teachers, and they had to get back for required meetings while their students are distance learning. But it got me to my 10k steps, and I was grateful. Also did my arm rehab exercises, which I kind of neglected for the most part while we were on our RV trip. But I have been noticing my shoulder aching at night, so figure I need to stretch and strengthen the muscles some.

I did 45 minutes of toning this morning and will do Dance2fit on Zoom in a few minutes. My fitness center is starting to offer classes on that platform. DH and I took the grandpuppies to the park and let them run around inside a softball diamond (there's no softball here yet, snow is still on the ground, so we didn't do anything to damage the field....in case they get to play at all this summer!). Two college kids were walking a big dog who joined in the fun. They had the best time ever!

LB: Love the "Call From My Heart Video." So peaceful.

Pat: Hope the exercises help your shoulder aches.

Ruth: The dogs had a fun time playing Tag!

Hi Everyone! I've been walking/running most days. Also, dh and I have been working in the yard pulling weeds, digging up weeds, trimming, etc. Tomorrow we're going to clear out the garden area. So many weeds!

Spring will so be in full force. Here's one of our early blooming azaleas.

Wonderland- those azaleas give me hope that we will see spring soon.

Ruth- thanks for the exercise video links. The dance fit one looks fun and I will check out the yoga nidra one too. Our Zumba instructors have been doing classes on zoom. We are calling it zoomba! It’s been wonderful to keep some consistency in our exercise and see classmates.

I have also been taking long walks with DD’s dog. They are moved in with us until the covid 19 subsides. Her roommate is a nurse so she chose to social distance herself from their house.

Karen- hope your DH continues to gain strength back.

LB- I loved the poem about fitness classes. So true.

Schools are closed here until at least April 20th and some feel we may not reopen this school year. Only essential services are open but that does include liquor stores.

I spend my days learning new technology, having zoom staff and team meetings, creating and sharing activities for parents to do with their children and making phone calls and FaceTime to stay in touch with my students. It’s so surreal. Parts of our state have been hit hard. I live in a more remote area where not much covid 19 testing has been available yet so it’s hard to get an idea of how many are affected around here.

    Stay well.

The teachers here, and I know all over the country, have been amazing in their response to make the very best of a totally unprecedented situation.

It's beautiful today. We took some drive-through food to s park and had lunch with a couple who are good friends. They sitting at one end of the picnic table and we on the other.

We took the dogs for a very long walk out at the golf course and now I'm going to do my Barre Sculpt class on Zoom. Definitely helps to do some "normal' things, even though not in a normal way!

Kudos to you teachers adding parent's who are now homeschooling as well! Heart

Talk about unprecedented situation, our Prime Minister is now in isolation with COVID 19, all cabinet members exposed and experts working with Downing Street, and Prince Charles has tested positive. The PM's girlfriend is pregnant, I'm sure she has been exposed as well and probably in isolation too. On the upside, the HMRC, the equivalent to the IRS, has sent me an email and looks like as a self-employed person, and reads that I may be eligible to receive 80% of my yearly average of my last 3 years tax returns. That change was trotted out on Thursday. Changes to how life as we know it are happening hour-by-hour.

Working out daily with ds, his HIIT routine is simple yet effective.

I am trying to go through the 37 old exercise DVDs to see if they are worth keeping. This morning I tried out a pilates DVD dated 2000. 20 minutes of mat pilates & 20 of a pilate/yoga combination. We then met up with DS & the grand-puppies for an hour long stroll in the park. Shortly after I got home from that a friend called and I met up with her for another walk. I think everyone is getting stir-crazy & going for a walk is a safe way to get together. I cleaned the upstairs of the house (the basement is still in project mode) when I got home so now am officially tired out!

5.2 mile walk with DH on an airline trail near our house. It’s an old train path that is being redone into a walking path. It was mostly flat with some hill climbing when we had to come up off the path to cross a road.

Then a short walk with grand dog before it rained.

This past week was a good walking week -averaged 4.5K/day. Need to get out early this morning before the clouds roll in.

Two friends/acquaintances are in the hospital with Covid-19. One is in his late 60s - he used to live in Denver, but is now in Philly, but he came back to Denver to take care of business (they still own a house here) and landed in the hospital in Denver. His wife is quarantined in Philly and so far still healthy. The other near 60 and was admitted with pneumonia and tested positive for Covid-19. He has several health problems including severe asthma, overweight etc. Lastly, in Toronto, my DIL's 78 year old uncle is in the ICU on vent with Covid-19. These are very scary times. DH and I are staying hunkered down except for walks in the neighborhood. I wash my hands after opening mail, after opening any packages delivered. I open the mail and dump it on the table for DH or have him take it out of the envelope. I probably wash my hands more than 10x time and of course then lotion.

This week is my official spring break (the one of the calendar before Covid-19). I need to spend a good deal of time learning how to do my job through Schoology or Google Classroom. We are finding out new things daily - Friday was from Legal on how we support groups of students who have IEPs - all very confusing to me. I've been thinking maybe I'm too old to keep doing this and maybe retire, but I know I'm quite good at my job when things are normal (will it every be normal again?) - when we are based in schools with kids. Hopefully come August/September we will get back to some semblance of normalcy.

Can't remember if I mentioned this the other day. We have completed applications through 2 dog rescue organizations. One of them already contacted our references - before we got a chance to tell him. Looking at an adorable brown Dobie who is about 1.5. The foster mom emailed us the other day and we responded. Haven't heard back - her email had an out of office reply. The other is a 4 year old Shepherd mix. My gf wrote a great recommendation for us. She was going to mention to me the need for fosters, but wasn't sure we were ready so she was happy that we are looking to adopt. The only scary part is how to meet the dog with social distancing. Don't want to rush into anything. But the Dobie puppy is so cute. We've never owned a Dobie, but we have owned a German Shepherd and Shepherd/Malamute mix.

    Stay safe and stay healthy.

Karen, can't wait to hear about further doggie developments! Something fun to look forward too. Plus a time of social distancing is perfect for adopting a dog because you have lots of time to get him/her into a good routine.

It's nice here again so I'll be walking outside. At 2:30 I'll attend a Zoom yoga class.

Wonderland you Azaleas are beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Kudos to all of you that are continuing your fitness - the past few days for me have been rather sedentary, other than a little yardwork/housework. We went to the beach last week on a lovely day to have our dinner, but it turned cold quickly at sunset so we came home without any beach walking. Our state just issued a stay at home order and closed non-essential businesses. And now its rainy and cold for the last couple of days. Waiting for some sunshine, hopefully to get out at least around the block and soak in some vitamin D.

Other than working entirely from home, my life is little changed at the moment. No hugs though when I drove into Seattle yesterday to pick up wine and support one my favorite wineries. The vintner is one of my friends, so expect to drive 2.5 hours to the Yakima area next weekend to hike the Cowiche Canyon and picnic on the vineyard lawn. I don't see any real risk as will be maintaining the 6' of distance. Just don't drink the entire bottle of wine prior to heading back.

I have been getting in a minimum of 4 miles of walking daily, rain or shine. Plus my weights and crunches routine for weekdays. Today is my first bicycle ride since New Year's Day. Should be glorious.

I was much more affected this week by learning that my friend whom I had stayed with in Phoenix just after the neuro-oncology conference I attended (manning an information booth) had died over Christmas. Many wonderful memories and someone whom I shall really miss. We dated when I first came to Seattle, but there were a couple of areas where I knew that taking things past a certain point would not have been a good idea. Otherwise, we most likely would have married. I did have a long chat with his brother as I was most likely the last person who spoke with him in depth.

I am starting to focus on the path forward as we do need to get back to work as soon as possible.

Otherwise, my focus is on checking in on friends and making sure that I am as healthy as possible if I do get the virus. Stats from Germany suggest that <1% of those who get the virus actually die. This is comparable to the flu. I also think we are weeks away from an effective treatment. We will know in a matter of days which of those treatments being tested prove to be effective. No months or years as is the case with cancer treatment.

    https://www.id-hub.com/2020/03/19/covid-19-updates-on-vaccines-and-therapeutics/

A humorous aside: not all hand sanitizers are created equal. My latest (gift with purchase yesterday) is based on pear brandy (presumably a less-than-tasty batch) which was combined with peroxide and a couple of other ingredients. Much better scent than Purel! Anyway, fun to have and works like a charm.

BTW - in most states "stay at home" does not refer to getting outside for exercise or fresh air, which most still allow as long as you keep your distance.

So that is what I am continuing to do until further notice. Not a problem at all when on a bicycle. - Claire

Will keep everyone updated on the fur baby status. Still haven't heard back from the Dobie foster. Need to figure out how to meet dog(s). Now that I've posted here and told my gf, I guess I need to tell my kids. I know they will be happy - well maybe, not as much as my SIL. He has put up with our dogs when he visits over the past 10+ years, but he did not grow up with dogs and heck we had big, big dogs.

DH isn't feeling as well today - the ups and downs are hard for him. Yesterday he felt great. Its only 2.5 week post op. Today we did our regular walk which is about 25 minutes. Thankfully he is taking a nap now. I still need to get another walk in. I think as soon as I'm done this post, I'll go up and down the steps to the basement 10 times - hope I can do that many. As much as I walk, multiple flights of steps are hard for me - I get winded.

Claire - sorry to hear about your friend. Yup lockdown, does not mean locked in the house!!! But its amazing how many people are still going to public parks - hard to keep 6' apart with so many people there.

Saw on fb that the TJs closed to my house is closed for cleaning as an employee tested positive for Covid-19. Friends have offered to pick things up. for us at the store, but I think its safest to do order and pick up - less people in contact. We are good for most of the week - may run out of fruit except for oranges.

    Stay safe and stay healthy.

Still running, got in 14 1/2 miles yesterday and not quite 6 today.

I'm furious w/ my older son--he has type 1 diabetes so is high risk, and he and his wife have a 2 month old daughter. He's just blowing off social distancing, to my DIL's absolute consternation. I swear he's so contrary. Tell him he HAS to go out, then maybe he would stay home. Today he just HAD to get tomato plants and basil plants.

Sweet insight Ruth. Claire sorry to read about the death of your friend.

Going outside in the UK has restrictions and I think it's going to get tougher than this current list:

    • shopping for necessities, as infrequently as possible;
    • one form of exercise a day, such as running or cycling, alone or with one household member;
    • for medical or care needs, for example to help a vulnerable person;
    • travelling to and from work, but only if you cannot work from home.

Meeting friends, shopping for anything beyond essentials, and gathering in crowds are now banned.

Claire: Sorry to hear about your friend. I'm sure his brother was grateful to hear from you.

Karen: Looking forward to your updates on your dog.

LB: Your restrictions are like ours. I live in North Carolina and a Stay In Place started today and will last until April 30. I feel like it will be extended. Virginia just ordered a Stay In Place until June 10.

Hi All! I've been weeding our garden and trying to get it ready for planting soon. It's a mess! Also been walking/running. Today I pushed mowed for an hour. Dh's mower broke beyond repair and we had to buy a new one. He mowed most of the backyard testing the new mower out. I mowed the front which is a breeze compared to the backyard and then helped him finish the back.

    Take Care! <3<3<3
