Octo: Glad you're back and safe from your trip!

Hi Everybody! Just caught up on all the posts since I was last on. Sounds like everyone is doing what I'm doing: staying home, getting out only to exercise or go to essential shops, and not knowing what day it is! My sisters inherited the sewing gene (it bypassed me) and they have been making masks for everyone. Ours arrive this Saturday. Meanwhile what few times I have been out in public I wear a no sew mask that's simple to make. Here are the instructions.

I've been walking/running and watching way too much news on the television.

Thank you Wonderland this is perfect for me to make masks as I too am a non-sewer. Edj3, was reading a yoga blog and came across this quote that cast my mind to your previous post: "I think we have to understand that our current view of yoga is thoroughly lopsided. Yoga is not about constant increase in wellness, fitness, flexibility and general physical capacity; it's about a whole-life journey. This encompasses gaining physical prowess and it also encompasses losing it. The losing phase is just as much yoga as the gaining one…As artist Robert Rauschenberg says: 'When you work with what's available, the restrictions aren't limitations, they're just what you happen to be working with'… Octo, good to read you back and sorry to read of the work pressure.

Working on learning BodyBalance #88, and doing Pilates and HIIT with ds. I'm feeling depressed this Good Friday about the soaring numbers of deaths, especially of front line workers, the Dr.'s, nurses, etc... Hey, I knew it was Friday when I woke this morning.

Thanks, Wonderland. I love the tip on using material from socks and tights for ties as I seem to be running low on those. Celia, good idea. Actually could use those servietten (in Swiss German) in origami mode as per Wonderland's link.

LB, I saw that lesmills on demand was offering classes for free while gyms are closed. I got a link from my gym's Instagram account. I also saw Piers Morgan giving a tribute to the Filipino nurses in the frontlines and those that have died. This is probably true in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco as well. So sad.

The situation here seems to have vastly improved. The reproduction/infection rate is already down from 2.8 to 0.6. So less than one person getting infected by another as opposed to almost 3 before. I may allow myself to go for a nice hike this weekend. Bringing several napkins. Still staying 50 meters away from others, if possible (no cliffs, for example).

I have followed this thread for years and it is my favorite. I don't post much because I exercise for a while, then I seem to get a pain or injury, then I have to sit it out for a while. It is so frustrating because I love to exercise. I find my best form is walking and I have been doing a lot of that with my husband since early February. It has been great for both of us. I was so low initially on my steps I did not feel good about posting. When starting I was averaging 2,000 - 3,000 a day. But in just two short months, I have increased my steps to about 7,000 per day. I am so pleased with my progress and I can tell it gives me more strength in other areas of my life. I notice it when I am making dinner, my legs don't feel heavy and tired like they did when I was not exercising.

But I have developed a problem. The joints at the base of my big toes are really getting painful when I walk. I don't know if it is bunions (I am 62). I have a little bit of a bump on each side but not too much. It could be. I do wear orthotic inserts and have also bought a new pair of walking shoes (New Balance) from Amazon. But I am still hurting when I walk. I don't know if I need to stretch, rest my feet, order a different style of shoe, or tough it out. Have any of you been through this? Any ideas I am open to try anything because I want to keep walking.

coffee latte - I might have bunions, too. So I try to buy shoes with a wide toe box ( whether it’s sneakers or dress shoes). Another thing I have done is go to a sneaker store where they will measure your feet and study your gait. I bought an expensive pair of running shoes, but it made a huge difference. Totally worth the money. Since we are restricted now from real shopping, maybe your current sneakers will work if you adjust the laces so it’s not too tight? Make sure your socks are on straight ( not kidding, this has happened to me where the socks were a little bunched and it hurt my feet).

Hi Coffee! You also might need a whole different style of shoe. A couple years ago I had such horrible tendonitis that I ended up in PT. She told me the Nike brand I had happily worn for about 20 years no longer worked for my feet. She recommended a different exercise shoe, and some brands of the regular shoes that would work better for my feet and I haven't had any problems since. If you can get a PT appointment, I would do so. Maybe even a virtual appointment with everything going on right now.

I did a Zumba DVD, we walked the dogs, and I will do a Zoom Yoga in a few minutes.

Welcome coffeelatte! Glad you joined us. GoKale and Ruth have given you some good advice concerning your bunions, if that's what your problem is.

Just a nice day today. Crisp with a breeze. Feels like fall but with spring colors.

Push mowed for 100 minutes and then went for a short walk.

CeliaC, thank you for the non-sew masks that I mistakenly understood as Wonderland offering. Wonderland - always our Mowing Maven! Coffeelatte, I have wide - what I call short duck feet and Reebok for me, has the best overall - in most styles (not classic), wide toe box running and gym shoes. HeidiHill, a week ago I attend a real-time webinar, with Les Mills out of Auckland, including CEO, most of the Mills, head of UK/Europe LM and head of training UK. They have now allowed us instructors (who hold current certification, meaning those who pay for music/choreography every three months) to live stream to our participants, particularly since they have offered free link to LMOD to clubs. Les Mills On Demand is excellent and going through the roof in subscriptions. Yes regarding Morgan - astonishing those on my twitter feed. Every Thursday night at 8pm front doors across the UK open and everyone comes out and claps, bangs pots and pans, making a cheerful noisy BIG UP to the NHS. So pleased to read of Swiss improvement!

Doing my usual indoor stuff and adding a walk in the afternoon.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I probably need to switch to a different style and brand of shoe. Also, a physical therapist sounds like a great idea. I will ave to wait until I can get to an actual shoe store to try on shoes rather than order from Amazon. I have worn the same brand and style for years so, like Ruth suggests, it is probably time to change. I will also find a physical therapist in the area to take a look at things. I want to be able to keep up the walking for a long time. In the meantime, I did a gentle yoga tape yesterday and this morning which helped me feel a lot of sore and tight spots in my lower legs. So some stretching is much needed to balance out the walking. I also removed the orthotic in one shoe and used a comfortable orthotic I have from Birkenstock. After taking yesterday off from walking, today I did not have near the pain. I hate to stretch but I need to force myself to do it.

It was Wonderland that posted the link to the no sew masks. Many thanks to you, Wonderland. These are soooo easy to make and I am sharing this link with others.

Have had a quiet day today, started with an Art of Living Meditation via Zoom at 10am & it was so relaxing that I flopped around all day. Will have to stir it up tomorrow & get this bod moving.

After 3 days, hard to catch up!

6 month check up with oncologist and got my Prolia shot. Need to check for lab results.

DH had face time check up with cardiologist. Cardiologist is pleased with his progress. He was able to see both incisions. Next visit is in 2 months and will include labs. Please let things settle down so it can be an in person visit.

Checked work emails tonight - Didn't check them all day Friday and it is too overwhelming. I know what I'll be doing all day tomorrow.

Gorgeous weather past couple days but that is all changing tomorrow - the 4 letter word - SNOW!

Oh good grief, thanks CeilaC and Wonderland, I'm the woman who has no clue as to what day it is, so keeping track of who said what - is now beyond me! Karen, good update on dh. We here are bathed in gorgeous clear sunshine, this morning and in the coming week, rain is due. :( I have a chocolate chicken!

Happy Easter Sunday in whatever way you do or don't celebrate everyone!

In celebration of Easter, I am wearing flowered yoga pants (instead of black) and I made caramel rolls for breakfast. Also, we ordered a full take out Easter dinner from a local restaurant who is delivering free meals to elderly and shut-in people. (I will add that's not us. We will drive up, pay, and they will throw the food into the car.) At some point this afternoon, we'll drop an Easter Basket on DS's doorstep, maybe he and the dogs will want to walk. Zoom Yoga and Barre Sculpt are also options.

Sending Happy Spring thoughts your way!

Lilac: LOL! I'm in the same boat. And let's not even begin discussing Roll Call. I can't even get my cats' names correct without going through all the other cats we've had before! Enjoy your chocolate chicken!

Karen: Good news about your dh!

Celia: the Art of Living Meditation sounds wonderful!

I walked/ran yesterday. We've had gorgeous weather but today some nasty storms are moving in later. Today is a rest day. I'm rereading (for the 4th or 5th time) Stephen King's book The Stand. The book about a virus taking over the world......

Happy Easter, Happy Passover, or just Happy Sunday!

Ruth - cute photo - Happy Easter!

Its 17F with wind chill - too cold for me after 70 yesterday so I've been pacing in the house so face 8550 steps - need to get to 10K - may walk up and down the stairs to the basement. Supposed to be cold on and off all week :( Except for Wednesday when it gets to low 50s, it will be in 20s and 40s all week till the week-end.

Didn't get what I wanted to get done for work, so I will need to work after dinner. Avoidance is not a good habit!!

    Hi all:

Regarding the SNOW word: yep, we got it! At least four inches so far here just outside of Santa Fe, still coming down though lightly now. I am seriously considering doing a bit of snowshoeing this afternoon...

Yesterday I cleaned house, cleaned some more, and then went for a two mile hike. While we were hiking we watched today's storm come in....

    Stay well, all!

it's been quite sometime since I've posted. The acute bronchitis kicked my tail for weeks! I'm actually starting to wonder if it's possible that I had COVID-19. Since I last posted I now I have a new iPad and it's so easy to read and post! Before I was using my phone because it was easy but then I dropped it busted the screen and haven't gotten it fixed yet. The really exciting news is my husband got our smart TV connected to the Internet and I now can access all the exercise videos On YouTube! Ruth I love the one you shared. I am managing to get at least 30 minutes a day of some cardio dance/Zumba type activity. My girl and I have been home since March 12th. She is high risk and I probably am to. I’m missing my grandkids terribly! 3 of my granddaughters have birthdays in March and my favorite little boy has a birthday this Saturday. My daughter and SIL moved last weekend during all the shelter in place order. I’m sad that I couldn’t help. I am excited that they are 1.3 miles from me. When all the stay home orders are over I’m going to squeeze the kids extra tight.

Hi Vargadoll- glad you feel better and waving to you and DD!

What is a safe distance when running, biking and walking during COVID-19 times? It is further than the typical 1–2 meter as prescribed in different countries - read about it here.

So windy here yesterday. 70mph at times. Poured all day, that cold wet rain. No walk. Today actually sun is coming up. will walk long and hard. I hit the 200 mark for making masks for the community. Will make more today after radiation and my walk. Have a great day everyone

Hi there, Vargadoll. No trip to Isle of Palms this year due to COVID. Maybe next year we can have a rendezvous in the Asheville area like we did a couple of years ago. Headed to my "workout space" for Yoga & Relaxation at 10:30 am.

CeliaC- I would love that! We have already told all the grandkids it would be a staycation this year. I hadn't renewed our Dollywood passes when all this started and I'm glad I didn't now. I always get all the kids a pass for their birthday and purchase them before opening day. Opening was delayed a week, then a month and now theres no opening day just TBA.. stay safe and enjoy your work out!

LB- waving back!!!👋 we have sunshine today! So I willi get a walk outside (which means laps around our yard to go with my livingroom workout 😆

I do have a question. Does anyone have/had plantar fasciitis? I'm having some issues with my left foot and as long as I have shoes on it doesn't hurt...just weird that bearing weight hurts my heel . I hobble without shoes on. Now's not the time to go get it checked..😬

There are some exercises for plantar fascitis; like rolling a tennis ball under your foot, tracing the ABCs in the air with your foot etc (google some more), also good, supported shoes are important (wear them both in and out of the house). You might need a different brand shoes than what you have been wearing. When in doubt, I always recommend a PT evaluation, but I suppose that's not possible right now, unless maybe by phone???

Karen, how is the new puppy?

It is unseasonably cold here. There were some record lows last night. Brrr!!!! This afternoon ee bundled up and took the grandpuppies out to a campground where there was lots of trees to break the wind and had a nice, brisk walk. I did Zoom PiYo tonight.
