My physical therapist clinic IS open so you might check (depending on your own comfort level and risk factors). I'm heading there this morning, got some tendon stuff going on and in an amazing display of paying attention now while the issue is not huge, I'm getting things checked out.

I'm still running, working the plan my coach gives me. Still plan to run my marathon (virtually) in June.

I have so many shoes. I wear a different pair just about everyday. I first noticed my left foot hurting after I had delivered Meals on Wheels. I deliver to an apartment building so I walk a lot. I thought it was just the boots I was wearing. I am wearing tennis shoes more and more. My Brooks seem the most comfortable. I did google and found that K-tape can help so I taped my foot up and it did help.!

Today I did a cardio workout and a 15 minute rebounding video. I’m loving have the tv connected to the WiFi

Hubby has plantar fasciitis and has had success with the exercises Ruth mentions...he did also get new shoes, which seemed to help, though I don't know how they helped.

We had about three or four inches of snow on Monday (!) and it has been cold since, but sunny so now the snow around the house has mostly melted. Nice to see it on the surrounding mountains again, and that is staying around a while. I did take Monday off from exercising (debated snowshoeing but just couldn't find the energy...) but I did long brisk walks both Tuesday and today. It really helps my sanity to get outside and houses are so far apart here in the country southeast of Santa Fe that distancing isn't an issue.

    Stay well, all!

Walked alone this morning & then had coffee with some of the Wednesday Walking Women via Zoom. We took the puppies for a walk this afternoon & I did Zoom Pound & Zumba tonight. I really did NOT need to exercise that much but I like both of those classes so much.

Hope everyone is doing okay. I continue my walking the dogs & Zoom exercise classes routine.

Here is an interesting and encouraging article for us exercisers from WebMD:

Most of us have gone through life not thinking much about our immune system. It's there. We've always just trusted it's doing the best it can to protect us from infections and cancer. That sure has changed! Our immune systems are now top of mind as we do everything we can to stay safe from COVID-19.

You do have some control over the health of your immune system. Good nutrition may be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of boosting your immunity, but it's not the only healthy habit that makes a difference. Exercise can be a powerful tool in keeping you safe from illness.

So, while I understand this new normal can serve as an easy excuse to be lazy, don't stop exercising – it's more important now than ever.

Let's talk moderate exercise first – a level of exercise equivalent to a brisk walk. Most of us live in an area where a brisk walk outside is still perfectly safe. Just maintain proper social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet between you and anyone else. Or hop on that treadmill that's been serving as a clothes hanger for far too long.

With each walk, your immune system gets a little stronger. Activity of germ-fighting immune system cells increases – these "natural killer cells" are particularly adept at killing off dangerous invaders. With each workout, our immune systems also pump out natural antibodies and anti-inflammatory cytokines to help wipe out attackers. Over time, these temporary increases can permanently pump up our immune system and lower inflammation, so developing a consistent exercise habit is key!

Here's even better news comes for those who aren't into vigorous exercise like jogging. Extended bouts (over 60 minutes) of high-intensity exercise can increase stress hormones, potentially decreasing immune system activity. This doesn't happen with moderate exercise. You also don't need to go on extra-long brisk walks to get the benefit. Research shows this positive effect on our immune systems with moderate exercise under 60 minutes.

How do you get started if you're not already active? Just move more today than you did yesterday. Baby steps are best. If the activity you're most used to is sitting, you're not doing anyone any good by jumping into an intense exercise. Prevent injury by getting your body used to moving. As you get more comfortable, you can slowly ramp it up to the next level. Slowly!

For beginners and experienced exercisers, it's easier than ever to get a good workout at home. No equipment is required. If you like lifting weights, now is a great time to invest in a good set.

Many fitness experts have taken to online instruction and classes. If this is all new to you or you've been out of the game for a while, look for beginner or light workouts – or ones that offer modifications for those just starting out. If you're ready to take your fitness to the next level, fitness apps and online programs are everywhere these days. Find a few favorite social media fitness gurus. Many create free, daily beginner and advanced workouts.

To round out your immune-boosting healthy habit routine, load up on vegetables and lean protein, a serving or two a fruit a day, get 7-8 hours of sleep at night (keep a regular schedule, just like you did when you worked outside the home), and find ways to decrease the effects of stress. Exercise is a great stress-busting tool, along with deep breathing exercises. Your immune system will thank you.

Oh I'm still working out. Have some left knee issues (SO glad my physical therapy clinic is open), plus think I mentioned i might have a little stress fracture going on on the top of my right foot. Whatever, I'm still running.

This morning was supposed to be a tired legs run (did 13 yesterday, cut it a mile short b/c of my knee), and after 1.3 miles, realized that no, my knee hurts. This is beyond discomfort. So wisdom ruled the day (very rare for me) and I used our rowing machine for 40 minutes. That is a good workout too, but not the same as running. I thought I might die of boredom though.

Thank you for posting the bit on exercise, Ruth. I am still convinced that cycling saved my life more than ten years ago. I have been beyond slammed with work and getting out on weekends for solo exercise. Last weekend, I visited the tulip fields and surrounding farmland. Yesterday, I hiked the Cowiche Canyon near Yakima. It's open with just enough people around for me to feel comfortable doing a solo hike.

I came back with food both times. Interesting, that I like asparagus from the Skagit Valley more than Yakima asparagus which is known throughout the country. And I get it super-fresh! Fortunately, asparagus freezes as 4 lb. is more than even I can eat in one week!

It hurt to drive through the mountains as there is still enough snow for Nordic skiing. Though those areas are closed until next winter.

I also came back with IPAs from what is the premier hops growing area of the world. One of which is called Hoppy Bitch. I think I will feature that on my Zoom IPA party with my admirer who lives in CT. Definitely conversation-worthy.

Plus, I was over the moon to find King Arthur all purpose flour at the supermarket in Yakima. I am now set for the foreseeable future.

I caved and ordered up a new bicycle saddle earlier today. It's really been agony and my buns deserve better. It will be here at the end of the week. I am doing a short 20 mile ride from where I live later today. Just too busy to travel anywhere. I have a fun ride mapped out for next week, with two route alternatives in case the one I really want to do is closed.

Attaching pictures from both starting with the Cowiche Canyon, followed by my tulip ride. - Claire

Vargadoll: Glad you are feeling better and also that your foot is better. When all the testing becomes readily available you will be able to find out if you have antibodies for the coronavirus.

Lilac: Love the rainbow idea. Not only is it colorful but it also offers promise.

edy: Hope your knee is better!

Claire: Gorgeous tulip fields! Would love to see in person. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.

    Ruth: Awwww - grandpuppies!

    octogirl: Cleaning is definitely exercise!

Karen: Hope your dh is improving daily.

We have had beautiful weather: highs in the 60s and low 70s, low humidity, blue skies. I'll try to conjure up this weather when we're in the heat of summer.

I've been walking/running. Today I push mowed for 2 hours then weeded more of the garden. We are going to plant the garden tomorrow in time for the rain that's predicted on Thursday.

Wonder - thanks for asking. Tomorrow (Wednesday) is 6 weeks post surgery. He is feeling better but still tires easily.

I'm so stress with the distance learning. It takes me so long to set up the technology (google meets, google classroom), then it doesn't work. And now there is talk that schools won't open back up till January 2021 - distance learning will continue till then!!

Colorado governor is starting to re-open the state starting April 27th - nail salons, hair salons, and each week more and more businesses. I will continue to social distance - only going to the grocery store with mask and lots of wipes.

My younger daughter had vertigo yesterday - she called me crying - it was so bad even laying down the room was spinning, she was throwing up (puking is the term she used), plugged ears. It started Sunday and got worse as the day went on Monday. When she called me on Monday is was after midnight her time - and her room mates were taking care of her :). She called the doctor and he called in ear drops and a Rx for Vertigo. She texted me all night last night, which was already today for her (9 hour time difference). I haven't heard from her since 6:30am today (16 hours ago) so she must be feeling somewhat better. I told her I owed her roommates dinner including drinks when this is all over (meaning Covid-19). One roommate got her Rx and Gatorade and the other was being a good "mother" and cleaning up after my daughter. She has really sweet roommates.

    Night - sweet dreams.

Beautiful pictures Claire! How fortunate to live in such a beautiful area.

Getting occasional hikes in - we have a management area connected to our neighborhood. But I realized occasional hikes are not enough, so I started to try and regularly do classical stretch every day again - so stiff after 2 months in an RV and 6 weeks stay at home, but it is beginning to help. Baby steps for me.

I do enjoy coming to this page, you guys are such an inspiration without being judgy. Thank you!

Claire - love those pics. Beautiful scenery out there! Bike riding is a great way to take it all in.

Ruth - I always love your pics and those pups. They are just so cute. Also appreciate the motivating article about exercise improving immunity.

Karen - so glad your DH is continuing to feel better. That must be so encouraging even though he tires easily. I’m sure that will improve.

Wonderland- so great that you are taking advantage of the great weather to get so much work done. I wish it could stay like this all summer.

Pat - so great that you have hiking near your home. All that nature is good therapy.

Octogirl- didn’t you mention snow in your area recently?

I have been running and walking mostly. With the gym closed ( and several weeks before it closed) I have done almost zero weights work and I am starting to see the difference. And all this time at home and I have not done any yoga. The weather is so great right now that I spend most energy outside. But no excuse though because I am perusing Facebook too. So today is a new day...(that’s what I say when I need to get back on track)

Hope your daughter is feeling better, Karen. Thank goodness she has nice roommates to give her some TLC!

I walked yesterday morning (the weather has been lovely......finally!) and then DH & I cleaned the garage; which also dragging all the snow shovels, snowblower, Christmas decorations to the storage shed & dragging out rakes, sprinklers, hoes, lawn furniture etc. etc. a dusty, hard, time consuming job! I walked this morning again, in a little bit we will check on the dogs. The little Dalmatian just got fixed yesterday, so I'll hang out with her while DH takes the big one for a walk. I'll do Zoom Dance2Fit & Yoga tonight. I am starting to MISS being with people. On my walk, I said "HELLO" to anyone I came across like they were my long lost friends!

Thanks Ruth - as of this morning she was still feeling awful :( I worry for her and school. She hasn't done any work since Monday. She has an assignment due Saturday night or Sunday and I told her to let her instructor know she has been sick in bed all week and she told me that's not how university works there!!! What do I know? Anyways its been many, many years since I was an undergrad; heck its been almost 35 years since I took a graduate class!! She managed to shower today and make it to the sofa and said it took everything out of her. She needs to be on the Rx for Vertigo for a month! I tried to connect my bank account here with her account in Israel and it is not possible to connect bank accounts internationally!! She has a Capital One account that I can transfer $ to, but she needed money for her Israeli account. I'm going to see if I can do a bank wire transfer but she doesn't feel good enough to deal with getting the information I need - I googled the bank and think I have the information. My bank is only seeing people in the lobby by appointment before 10 or after 2. They are only open 9:30 - 4 so not many choices before 10!!

Weather is heating up here. 80s by end of next week. Done with winter, but not ready for summer!!!

I tell you, this distance learning is hard work. I was finally successful today with connecting with 2 of my kiddos with google meets. I tried several times before but the links wouldn't work. I had my young teammate (under 30) walk me through it and I think I've got it down. Now all I need is for parents to respond to emails and to help sign their kids on for our appointment times (they are mostly grade 1 and grade 2).

Yeast is. nowhere to be found!!! A gf is giving me several tablespoons which will last me a couple months. Have no clue why there is a yeast shortage. No Red Star yeast to be found. Well, ebay has it but for 4 - 5 times the regular price!!! The only thing I bake with yeast is challah and pizza. One recipe of challah lasts us a few weeks (I make what I need each week and keep the dough in the freezer) and 1 batch of pizza dough makes 2 pizzas so I freeze half the dough as well. Everything else I bake doesn't need yeast, and now with just the 2 of us, I hardly ever bake :( When I make a bundt cake (marble or rum) I cut it in 4 chunks and freeze 3 and keep one out and it lasts a month. And cookies too. I used to bake every week when the kids were here. i made cookies for the nurses when my husband was discharge from the hospital. I should have brought the whole batch as we still haven't finished what I kept for us and its been over a month!

Hope everyone is staying safe and staying healthy. The mayor of Denver has extended the stay at home till May 8th from April 30th. The governor is lifting the stay at home Sunday!! I'll keep practicing my social distancing!!

    Sweet dreams :)

Karen, hope your daughter gets better as days move forward. Nice photos Claire and I love tulips. Ruth, I saw your link on twitter. Gokale4320, I'm with you - and no idea if and when gyms will reopen - which most likely will be last stage of the lift - when it does happen.

Today I taught a zoom pilates class for a gym I work for. Was a bit nervous to start but fell into it and got an email by one of my pink pilates ladies who enjoyed it! Below is a sign I made-up at Vistprint that we put it at the end of our drive. Everyone in the UK deeply appreciates our NHS frontline and key workers. We have no date for lifting lockdown and no protests anywhere. Just read that Lysol put out a public warning that disinfectants should not be ingested or injected into the body despite comments from the moron Donald Trump.

Thanks Lilac. When I spoke to my daughter this morning she was feeling a little better. I more worried how her being sick will impact her with school. Both her dad and I this morning told her to email the instructor to let him/her know she has been sick in bed all week. Her roommates continue to take good care of her.

Was successful in finding the information I needed to do the bank wire transfer. Her Israeli bank has a branch in CA, so I emailed them. Learned that Israeli banks do not have routing numbers - I told my daughter that she was right, and she goes "I was right". I love that girl. The banker told me the swift code and what the other code I needed which my daughter had already given me. My bank was very helpful this morning. Evidently, my signature didn't match what they had on file, so the banker had to have me come back in and sign a new signature card!!

Feeling pretty proud of myself - learned something new about banking and work related Google Meet and Google Classroom. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!!! So many of my co-workers are half my age or even younger! I miss the kids. It's just not the same seeing them on the computer screen. Harder to keep them engaged!

Sweet dreams. Have a good Friday night and Saturday :)

Ruth- that video is so funny. I feel that way at times.

Karen- glad your daughter has a little relief but I agree with you that her instructors need to know, especially since she was under a doctors care. Teaching preschool remotely is so challenging for me too. Most of our teachers are younger and more tech savvy as well. Most days my brain is exhausted by the end of the day.

Keeping up with daily walks early morning and late afternoon. Doing Zumba and other exercise classes through zoom and Y360 on Facebook. Not losing but not gaining either so I will take it.

LB- love the banner. I wish people around here wouldn’t protest.

Wonderland- waiting for spring to arrive up here. It’s been cold and rainy.

Pat- I just want to go walk along the shore at Napatree. I need to hear the crash of the waves. But staying and walking close to home instead.

Yesterday I ran 16 miles, furthest distance for me ever (so far, says my coach and he's right--he's got me running 18 miles next Saturday). I ended up with a nasty blister (streets were wet, my shoes got wet and that equals friction). Between the blister and my knee, I cut today's recovery run from 4 to 2 miles.
