Well now that warmer weather is coming and one of my clotheslines got replaced, I will start hanging out the wash on nice days.

edj, you are beautiful and strong - a testament of how fit you are to make it 10 miles. Working with a running coach and consistency in training to a level of fitness that will benefit more than a PB. What you have worked towards is not all going away. A bit of down time from running and for now, upper body focus. I too want that lump to be nothing and perhaps it is - sure hope so.

edj - sorry to hear about your foot....and the lump...good luck with your scans

I forgot the date yesterday - that it was the 16th - till I went on fb and saw my. memories - then it made me sad that I didn't remember the date - yesterday was 7 years since we said good-by to my father. On the Hebrew calendar his yarzheit (anniversary of death) is the second day of Shavuort (a holiday where we got the Torah) so I always remember that - and this year it is the end of May - but this year is the first year I didn't wake up thinking about it - yet it was on my mind all week. One of the pictures on my fb memories was one a posted a few years ago of my father and my oldest DD who was maybe 2 at the time (or 3). I'll try to post it later. That brought happy memories.

Sat outside reading yesterday afternoon and finally finished my 703 page book - and got a little (maybe too much) sun - now need to figure out way to get a little sun on back of arms and legs. I hate the feeling and grease of sun screen so I don't wear it and it does not make DH happy - he worries about me getting skin cancer. I generally only sit out in the sun on Saturdays. Most summers when I travel, I'm in Israel for 3-4 weeks so I'm outside during the day. This summer we'll be working the house, so I'll have to plan some time for Vitamin D!!

Not sure what is on the calendar for today - need to do some weeding, would love to plant flowers in the back garden - but we normally wait till Memorial Day. Also need to do some paperwork - and lots of walks!

    Have a great day.

edj: oh no! So sorry about your foot and the need for the scans...I fractured my fourth metatarsal in a fall a number of years ago (fifteen maybe?) and they wouldn't even let me put weight on it at all for six weeks! Ended up in a wheelchair since crutches and I don't get along. (and I lived it San Francisco at the time, where there are lots of hills and stairs...). Sounds like yours isn't as bad? I hope not, but you will get through this. Best wishes to heal quickly.

Being in a wheelchair was an interesting and eye-opening experience. I discovered that even cities that pride themselves on accessibility do a lousy job with curb cuts. And, If I was out in public with my husband some folks would talk to him as if I was both deaf and blind in addition to having a broken foot: 'and what should we bring your wife for her lunch, sir?' type of thing. Grrr....fortunately, he knew me well enough to look at them and say, 'I have no idea, why don't you ask her?' :-). Anyway, memories.

And back to exercise (I did exercise then: long 'walks' in the wheelchair really did help me build upper body strength since it wasn't an electrical one. I second the suggestion to work on upper body strength.).

As for my exercise: I've had an insanely busy week at work (from home) and didn't do as much as I should have...but a long hike is in my very near future!

    Stay safe all!

Karen, it is hard to remember dates when every day is the same. I think it is March 75th!!!

I did Zoom Zumba yesterday. Today it will be Zoom Yoga and/or Barre Sculpt. It is also TURN OFF THE FURANCE DAY.....the weatherman predicts that we are switching from winter to summer today! At noon we are going to bring lawn chairs & lunch and meet some friends for a socially distanced picnic in a park. I've got to stop making comfort food meals & desserts if I have to start wearing shorts instead of yoga pants!!! Shocked

LilacBlue you are right, it won't go away. What is going away is my goal to run that marathon this year, the year I'm 60. I'd invested a whole lot of meaning and significance in that so I'm doing my best to wrap my head around that loss.

I won't know more about the recovery process until I see my orthopedist, who is also the one who treated me two years ago this month for my broken pelvis. He's great, although pretty damn strict. And thanks to the broken pelvis, I'm very proficient w/ crutches. I will say I'm shocked by how swollen my right foot is--I have scrawny feet so this looks really weird.

karen1956 may your memories of your dad comfort you today and always.

Today I did abs, upper body and what lower body I could do. Later this week, I'm hoping my foot feels well enough to tolerate rowing (although I won't be stupid about it).

This is the year that almost everyone's plans are postponed or being re-imagined. But so sorry about break, edj. Things like that are really painful. I have some cycling and hiking injuries that never healed properly, so I think it's worth listening to the doctor.

I drove out to Central Washington and cycled the Yakima Canyon yesterday, solo instead of in an organized event as I have done in the past. Because of COVID, it was very low key and I got to see birds nesting, but alas, no bald eagles. I did see magpies though with their glorious black and white plumage. Relatively little traffic, and NO RAIN!

Not nearly as sore as after last weekend's longish ride, so there is hope! I think I will do another 25 miles in a bit, but a lot closer to home. So glad I can do these things. One funny thing is that people were so antsy to get out, that hiking or golfing in the rain was no problem! (It was raining most of the way out to the Yakima Canyon, and I got a few sprinkles.)

Came home with a ton of asparagus and lovely potatoes that I bought at a roadside place. Yakima is the asparagus capital of Washington State, and ships all over the US. But of course, this is super-fresh. Potatoes were from Skagit County which has a cool and wet climate as it's in Western Washington. Some of the best potatoes ever. I bought a steak to have with, and got a deal on Wagyu beef from Oregon.

Since I'm not training this year, I am doing less cycling overall, but taking the opportunity to do interesting and fun routes.

I will see what farm stand vegetables I manage to bring back. One thing I can say....it won't be more asparagus! - Claire

Dog walking & Zoom Pound. Caught up with two groups of family & friends over Zoom. I've been invited to a socially distancing happy hour on a friend's deck but am not sure if I dare go or not. Yikes!

I rowed this morning. It's not running but it's what I can do. And I'm so grateful for my wonderful physical therapist. She's a competitive weight lifter so totally gets my drive to run and how important it is for me to stay fit. I met with her yesterday and she set up a good series of leg work I can do without damaging my broken foot. I did a bunch of those so I got in a full hour of working out today.

While I wouldn't say I'm gigantically worried, I do wonder about this bone in my foot. I had zero warning, the way you would with a stress fracture and I didn't twist my ankle or trip on anything. It just broke. I know I didn't ramp up my mileage too quickly, in fact I've been very cautious and dialed back when my IT band on my left leg got annoyed. While I was dx'd with osteoporosis last year after I fractured my pelvis (which was from stress, very different feeling to be sure), I've also taken two doses now of Prolia. I would think that's making a difference in my bone density. So I hope this broken foot isn't a sign of anything serious.

Tomorrow I see the BS for my first set of scans since the lumpectomy and radiation.

DS is having new steps, a new deck put on his house & a tall fence build around it too. We took the dogs for the day & probably will again for a couple days while they are jack hammering, pounding, and making lots of other construction noise. So we got LOTS of dog walking today. I did Zoom Barre & PiYo tonight. My fitness center is going to try some classes outside when the weather cooperates.

Abs and upper body work today. I have an ultrasound (left breast) and mammogram (right breast) at 1 today, and see the BS at 2. Physical therapy at 3:30. I might have a beer tonight, why not--tomorrow isn't a run day for the next two months.

Hope your appointments went okay, edj. Absolutely have the beer!

The Walking Women met at a park and social distanced walked together. Afterwards we set our lawn chairs 6 feet apart and ate the breakfasts we each brought. It was so great to see everyone in person!

I had the ultrasound on the left breast, mammo on the right. Then the ultrasound tech came in and lectured me that I needed a mammo on the left. Yes, I actually do know that but it's not happening until this scar tissue quits hurting all the time.

Then I saw the BS who said basically the same thing. He said they wouldn't be able to see calcifications with the ultrasound. OK well I've done my part, saw OT for 5 months, done all the self massage, I continue to work my upper body, stretch my arm and arm pit and it still hurts all.the.time.

Long story short, he suggested an MRI which fine, why didn't you lead with that? So assuming insurance says yes, we'll get that scheduled.

I know this isn't the steam room but I am flat over being told that the pain I have isn't pain, or having someone act like I'm a wimp. Look, I ran a 10k race on a broken pelvis (which was stupid) and I ran 4 more more miles to get home Saturday after that bone in my foot broke (which I had to get home and running was faster than walking). I do not need to justify or explain that I actually have a very high tolerance for pain.

edj, so sorry about your experience. The next time you do have a mammogram, you should ask for a mild painkiller or a mild sedative and take it prophylacticly.

edj- sorry for your injuries, disappointment and latest scares. Life is throwing you lots of curves right now. Trust your gut; you know your body better than anyone.

    Karen- happy Belated Birthday.

Been catching up on a couple of weeks of posts.

Go kale-my daughter’s dog is only around 14 pounds. He just moved in a way that caused me to lose my balance my shoulder is doing much better now.

Today I drove to each of my preschoolers houses to drop some things left at school and planting stuff off to them. Many hours and miles driven but it was so great to see each of them if even from a distance. We still have 4 weeks of school left here.

    Hope everyone is well

One more week of google meets, zoom meetings!! the CDC came out with recommendations for schools to start back up - there is no way what they are suggesting is possible. I worry about the kids - not the academics but mental health and safety. My district has said we will know on June 3rd what the plan is for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

I'm bummed as my team is most likely having our last meeting and end of the year celebration next Friday and I can't attend - its a religious holiday - Shavuot. Not sure yet if it will be via zoom or it with be socially distancing at one members home who has several acres of land.

edj - wow - running with broken foot and broken pelvis - you are one strong lady - your doctors need to believe you when you say you are in pain!

Ruth - love the picture of the WWW.

I love seeing memories come up on fb - I've been taking screen shots of many of them this month due to our 3 birthdays and mother's day. Well, yesterday was 4 years since my youngest graduated high school!!! That just seems so weird. If she hadn't made Aliyah (moved to Israel and became a citizen) she would be graduating college!!! She will graduate - just taking her longer in Israel as she didn't start University till this year. I don't want to do the math to figure out how long ago my other 2 kids graduated high school.

One of my fb friends - a former parent post on fb that it was 10 yeas since her son graduated high school - made me feel old as I remember when he started kdg!!! We used to keep in touch when I still worked in my former district but now its just on fb.

Yesterday Denver broke a record high at 92!!!! It felt like a furnace out - not quite as hot today thankfully.

    Sweet dreams.

Walked yesterday to stores close to me get a new clothesline. Went to three stores and not one had the right kind. As a result last night after a trip to Walmart, I found the right clothesline when I finally got to rest after dinner I was very stiff and sore. Very limited activity for me today

My lower back on one side hurts, unfortunately. I felt it this morning while still in bed. So maybe I slept funny? I do know I need to strengthen my abdominal muscles.

I took a long walk this morning, and will try to do more later. I also plan on doing some light weights (and an work)

Mommyof2 , one house we lived in years ago had a long clothes line. I loved hanging the wet laundry out there. It was good work and felt satisfying. When it was dry, I would fold it as I took it down.

edj, sending positive vibes amid the sucky news. Arghh. Lilac, so great that you can help so many people.

I did do the bike ride and even earned a canyon badge (400 floors) on Fitbit. It somehow thought I was walking, not riding a battery assisted bike. There were enough technical challenges uphill on muddy, rocky trails and downhill on steep gravel roads so I did feel deserving of something.

Go, I have two lines. One runs from the garage to a post in the middle and the other one goes from the post to the house. I love letting my clothes dry on a line during the warm spring and summer days.

HeidiHill, you are deserving! edj, scars can be painful and glad you and your PT work well together. Ruth - social distancing nailed - with dogs too!

Today yoga, BodyBalance and Pilates, plus walking Gyms may start to open in July but can't see group exercise classes happening as well. Clapped for carers tonight at 8pm, and enjoying this warm evening, windows open listening to chirpy-loud, cheerful birds in the tress surrounding our home.

I planted flowers, peppers, basil etc. all morning. I have lots of perennials and also rhubarb, strawberries & raspberries that come back every year, but like to fill in with annuals. Depending on whether or not I want to do some flowers in pots, I may or may not be done buying flowers. Usually I run all over town comparing the selections, prices etc. (which I enjoy) but this year I just went to one place and bought as much I thought I'd need there.

More dog walking, and I'll do Dance2fit and/or Yoga tonight.

Hi Everyone! Been catching up on posts since the last time I was on.

edj: So sorry about your foot bone. Such as disappointment for you and your goal. I had a breast MRI several years ago. After you have yours I would love to compare experiences.

Ruth: Looks like spring is finally arriving in ND!

We've had LOTS of rain last week and especially this week. Even had a couple of days where I turned the heat back on! It's not raining today so I've already gone for my walk/run. Felt great.

During the rain I decided to get my paints out and paint some projects I've been wanting to do. Below are 2 North Carolina door hangers and my coronavirus box I made to hold my wipes, sprays, hand sanitizer. I was tired of these items being loose on the counter, had plenty of time on my hands, and thought to myself, "I'll paint a coronavirus box." Smile

Wonderland your work is beautiful, the colors and patterns are just great.

I did have an MRI before my lumpectomy so I think this will be the same? Lying on my tummy, feet first into the machine, breasts trying to hang down (I'm not big, a 30DD)? It freaked me out then but now that I've done it once, I'll be fine.
