My HOA outdoor pool is open, with lots of (comforting) Covid controls...including reservations on line, and only one person per lane. I love that! I've been swimming as often as I can, which is about every third day, because reservation slots are posted online every two days, and you can only make a reservation if you don't already have one. I get an hour every third day, and in some ways it is keeping me sane!

My foot is still bothering me off and on, so not as much walking as I'd like, though I may start in on a serious waking schedule this weekend.

Take care and stay well, all.

Thanks for the thoughts edj and the imbalance when being upright for all these past weeks, your body did compensate and now with the insert, working on that as well. This recovery is asking so much from you (in every way) and restorative poses can help ease the stress and calm.

Yesterday I attended a Covid induction for one of the gyms I freelance at . Taking temps of participants as they walk through the door - one by one, dismissing them row by row that are 2 meters socially distanced. Setting up and spraying equipment etc.. I Apparently, the members of this gym are leaving in droves and that could very well be the same for all the gyms. I feel vigilant yet not afraid. I'll let you know what I come across on Saturday - my first class back from lockdown - current release BodyBalance/Flow #89. Finally nailed the choreography from past few weeks of daily practice and really like the music and sequences. It's so much easier and better to learn if you like the release.

Karen I actually live in Whitby which is a 30 to 40 min drive east of Toronto. Just heard today that the gyms here are finally opening.

Still keeping up with daily classical stretch. Looking forward to finishing up antibiotic so I can walk on the beach again.

Karen, when I retired I took up genealogy as a hobby. My Mom passed in 2007, but I just couldn't deal with all her boxes of stuff right away, so it went to the garage attic, out of sight, out of mind. Fast forward to 2016, recently retired and lots of time on my hands. My Dad was from Wales and my Mom from Ireland, everyone was into researching the Irish side, but no one was doing the Welsh side, so I decided to see what I could find in preparation for visiting Wales a year later - well, in that timeframe I did not find any living relatives, but I have since! I also went through my Moms things, and found tons of photos, letters, prayer cards, etc., and some of these things have just been so valuable to researching my Mom's ancestors - was even able to connect an adopted child to my mothers first cousin! Not so many things on my Dad's side (he died in 1979). So if you have a genealogist in your family, they would love to have and care for your parents documents.

Lilac, your words comforted me. I tend to think when I face any physical issues that I did something wrong, that my body screwed up or there was something I could have done that would have not caused it to happen. So reading that the uneven gait really does take a toll helped me be kinder to myself.

I'm adding in more restorative poses and also foam rolling to help my left glute and hammie feel better. While I wish it was a faster process, things are getting ever so slightly less painful.

Gyms opened back up here, although I do not feel comfortable returning to mine. I had signed up for personal training sessions and will now have to "buyout" my remaining sessions in order to cancel. Not an expense I look forward to, but the risk to my health outweighs the cost.

YLuckily, I am keeping busy with Zoom offerings from our local Cancer Support Community which are now scheduled through 12/31, augmented by Silver Sneakers Zoom & Video classes, exercise videos available on Amazon Prime & the occasional YouTube offering. Happy to say that since COVID began, I am down 10 lbs & becoming more fit.

edg3 - Continued good wishes for your recovery. You can do this!

pat - Lucky you to have a beach to walk upon. Have been to Misquamicut State Beach in RI & it was lovely, with great ocean waves.

ruthbru - Thanks for the Happiness Chemicals posting. This is a keeper.

We had a storm last night which brought us some much needed rain & knocked some of the humidity out of the air. I took a nice walk this morning & will do Zoom Barre Sculpt later this afternoon.

Celia, could you ask your gym to put your membership and/or your training sessions on hold until you are comfortable going back? It would be worth asking about. The worst they could say is no, which would put you where you are now. But they might be willing to work with you so that you will come back to them when things settle down.

ruthbru - Your suggestion was the first route I took and the answer was no. Also asked if a Doctor's notation re: being at risk would work and again, the answer was no. Best they could offer was to hold off billing for one month before I need to buyout at 50% of remaining contract. On another topic, someone suggested playing the cancer card, but I feel like that would be bad karma. Costly lesson learned.

Pat - wow, you did a lot of work with your mom's family. No geneologists in my family. I'm not ready to give away the important documents. I have a family tree from my mother's family - I know from my maternal grandfather and I think my maternal grandmother as well. I have less information on my father's side. Unfortunately, we are the "senior" generation. We are a relatively small family and we are spread all over. Even my family - my three kids are in 3 countries on 2 continents!!!

Went to the mountains again this week-end. Friday 27K steps and 17K yesterday - today only13K. Hiking yesterday, we saw 2 bull moose right by the trail feeding. One was on the left and the other on the right, then one crossed the path just in front of us - DH and I backed up when we saw the one coming toward the path - got some great pictures. Will try to post a few, but bco does not always let me post photos. We got back in time yesterday from an 3.5 hour hike just before it started raining and it rained the rest of the day. Not sure if it rained at home, but the weather was a bit cooler today - but heating up all week.

Well it won't let me post photos from my computer :(

    Sweet dreams

Celia, sorry about your gym situation, but I agree with you, right now your health is more important. And yes, RI beaches are lovely. I had every intention of walking the beach this morning, but woke up later than normal, and then realized my insides were complaining - finally 3 weeks of antibiotic caught up to me, so need to stay close to the bathroom today. It is also in the 90's and humid, so I'm sitting in front of the fan (we don't have AC). Hoping I can motivate myself to at least do classical stretch (also in front of the fan!)

Karen, that Moose picture is incredible! I think I would have been more than a little bit afraid to be that close. Wonderful that you have family trees handed down to you - I too am the senior generation, wish I had asked more questions when my parents were alive.

I'm a bit astounded that gyms will not let members freeze memberships during the pandemic. It used to be difficult to change the type of membership or leave a gym when on contract so about 5 years ago gym contracts where challenged in court and laws have been made since then to protect the consumer. It's far easier and more fair now to deal with. All gyms here automatically froze all memberships at the start of lockdown. I have a membership at a large franchise gym I teach at and I think my payment will be run today, for the first time since March. With the government allowing gyms to open since the 25th of July, they can now unfreeze memberships/take payments and members are leaving in droves.

It's been interesting and weird to be back teaching. It feels and looks different and not in such a good way. Two meter grid lines on floors - take every other square, no towel, temps taken at door of room, names ticked off, no mat no class, there is more. My Pilates class felt heavy under it all and the members are quiet, sort of wide-eyed, taking it all in. Today my classes (Pilates and yin yoga) are at the gym with members in the class and live streamed, using my laptop because my music on google play is on it. When streaming on Zoom, the music has to be on the computer you are streaming from to have it sync with the head microphone. Love that moose Karen!

It has been so hot and humid in my area. Lots of swimming which helps my arm with stretching. It tends to tighten up if I don't stretch or exercize it daily. Walk early in mornings due to heat. Last 4 days unbearable. Today golf but not until this afternoon. Temps high 90's to 100 with very high humidity factor

After about 10 tries, I got the video ppt done - I think it sounds pretty good and is synched voice to slide. I recorded it on ppt and had to transfer to google so not sure if all is good that way. I might have to go back and figure out how to record on google from the ppt. It was due today and I didn't start till last night and finished early this morning. For a 20+ minutes presentation, it took me several hours!!!

Cooler out today. hoping to go for a walk shortly.

A work friend of mine, early 50s was just Dx with BC. Don't know details regarding type, stage etc, but Tx is lumpectomy and radiation. they wanted to do the biopsy same day as mammo and ultrasound and she said no, she needed time to process. But in it was less that 2 weeks. I need to check with her and see how I can help and when her Tx starts. She is widowed but has some good friends near her. She said her bff went to the biopsy with her.

    Have a great day.

Hello, I exercise off and on but when I weight bearing on my arms and try to do strengthening my chest, implants and under arms hurt very much. I am still feeling discomfort like it's over stretched and achy on both sides. Do you think something serious? No redness or change in shape. Do any of you work your upper body? If I garden and trim the bushes I have pain. I am 10 years out, had a chest MRI in March, all clear.Thank you

I work my upper body a LOT but I don't have implants.

I do, however, have tethering and cording in the breast that had cancer. If I don't stretch daily, I lose flexibility very quickly. For strength work, I use fairly heavy barbells and I won't lie. It hurts always. But my RO who is doing my follow up breast care, said this was OK as I can and would stop if I felt like I was truly damaging myself.

Edj3 very happy that your able to continue with your routine, so important. I think the pain will be with us forever unfortunately. With implants I feel sore, achy and pain.. Worried about damaging them. I need to work my arms but at same time I pay the price. I was worried about a reoccurrence but with my last MRI a few months ago and the way it radiates both sides, I know I just have to limit myself.. not the same anymore.

B123 - I don't do any upper body work - keep saying I need to take 3 - 5# weights when I walk, but I never do. I have implants (don't know if they are under or over the muscle and not sure how to read the PS's report, but I guess it doesn't matter). There are times the BC side is sore and feels a little full or aches when I move it a certain way. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I don't worry about it.

We got a good down pour around 4 pm - we were thinking about going for a walk, then the skies let loose. I won't complain as we need the water. We did walk as soon as it stopped raining and then after dinner.

My Nephrology visit for next month got changed to tele-visit which is just fine with me. I'm going next Wednesday for my labs. The first early morning appointment (can't go Monday or Tuesday am as I have a webinar training 8:30 - 12:30). I try to go at the same time of ay for the labs. Quest does say on their website if you are over 60, come the first hour and they will give you VIP treatment, but they do recommend making an appointment. I may decide to show up at 8 on Friday instead. The doctor office just texted me today that they ordered the labs, but want to give it a couple days to be sure the order is there.

DSW is having a sale with 60% off sale price - I got this crazy idea to look for dress shoes for the gown I wore to my DD#1 wedding 11 years ago next month and another one I bought for her wedding that she didn't like so I wore it to a friend's son's wedding 2 weeks after my daughter got married. All the dress shoes I had collected for more than 25 years (though rarely wore) became a size too small about 10 years ago. The shoes I wore with both gowns were only worn once. So I found 2 pairs - one for each gown and decided to order them. $20 for both pairs!!! DH keeps saying he can't wait to see me walk in them. I told him that I would only wear them when sitting and then off them come for any dancing. Not that I have anywhere to wear something like these two gowns. I may have these shoes till the end of my days. The only dress shoes I own are a pair of sling backs with maybe a 1 inch (or less) heel that are several years old. Don't really need anymore, except for the gowns. I am not a dress shoe person!! I'm not one to dress up - even to synagogue I wear nice skirts and tops and either my Dansko or my Blundstone boots in the winter or my Chaco sandals. The skirts and tops are really just like I wear to work. It's all about comfort!!!

The new school year is about to start. Next Monday and Tuesday, I have a 2 day training - it was supposed to be in person all day, but with covid, it is 1/2 day and webinar. There is work to do before the training. Then its back to a new school year on August 10th. All trainings are on line or webinars or zoom meetings. No in. person meetings allowed with groups greater than 10. Students return on teh 24th. The first 2 weeks are online. Earliest in school learning is Sept 8. But the superintendent said today on the news that in person will probably be hybrid and they are still working out the plans but things can change any time. She has promised parents at least 2 weeks notice, so that means that when the students start on August 24th we should know what things will look like after Labor Day. I was hoping to get together with girl friends, but doesn't look like it will happen. I am meeting with my intern on Friday - I asked her to meet at my house and we would social distance in the back yard with masks.

Well, I've rambled on long enough. Sweet dreams

thank you Karen, how far out are you with implants? I really don’t do a lot of Upper body either but sometimes I just get into it and try. The counter pushups might have hurt me?? Only did a few. I trimmed the bushes as well. I just want to strengthen my arms and feel stuck. Hope I didn’t hurt the implants. Mine are over the muscle, not under. My last MRI was March, all was good.

Good luck with your shoe shopping!

Walked with my friends this morning. Here are some pictures from DH & my State Park Hiking Day yesterday. This is who met us in the parking lot (where we were the only car).

    image

At the park entrance there is the Old Settlers Trail which brings you down to and around the lake,

    image

    Next is a Nature Trail,

    image

    And a Woodlands Trail

    image

    And the Moraine Loop Trail

    image

And the Lake View Loop Trail

    image

There was a Rolling Prairie Loop Trail off the last two trails, but we were tired out so will leave that one of another day.

    Ruth - gorgeous scenary

    Martaj -looking good

B123 - I've had this set of implants for 12 years (July 2008) - after reading an article on OTM, UTM, I believe mine are under the muscle. I've not had any imaging done with these implants - at my last oncology appt in April, nurse practitioner said at 15 years I should have them checked out. I only see my oncologist. Quit seeing PS and BS in 2009 as I was tired of so many doctor appointments and my oncologist was seeing me every 3 months. At 5 years he moved to every 6 months and 14 years since Dx, I"m still on 6 month schedule.

    Hot walk this morning.

My school district just announce that we will be remote learning through the first quarter of the school year into October.

This is a fun and inspiring group! Love the pictures, beautiful! Karen1956, I hear that under muscle is better because it protects them.. but who knows for sure. I am feeling a little less pain today, I think I hurt my chest wall and under arms. I am still with my Onc every 6 months too, but I have also had many scans along the way. Not that it was necessary but I just insisted. I do want to know how everyone exercises and strengthens their upper body without hurting or risking TC with implants or just pain. I need to get these arms in shape. Glad your not returning to school, safer to be virtual at this point.
