Martaj: Hope your dh is recovering nicely. Be sure to pamper him!

Hi Everyone! I woke up this morning to my bed and house shaking and loud noise outside. It was an earthquake! The center of the 5.1 magnitude quake was 90 miles from where I live. It was the worst earthquake in North Carolina since 1916. So in less than one week NC has had a hurricane AND an earthquake amid a pandemic Shocked Plus there were tornadoes during the hurricane. Those Murder Hornets better stay away!

Hot and humid hot and humid hot and humid. Ugh. Luckily where I live was not affected by the hurricane other than rain and wind. The coast and inland were slammed Sad I only walked/ran outside twice this past week plus our weekly mowing.

A scary week in North Carolina. Stay safe, Wonderland!

It was hot enough here that, instead of walking outside, I put on a Denise Austin Indoor Walking DVD instead. One of the mile segments was done with light weights, so I got in a little toning too.

Wonder - what a week - glad that you are out of harms way.

Tied record high of 98 today. 50 days 90+ so far this summer.

Tomorrow its back to work - feels strange to say "back to work" since it is online.virtual till at least October 16th. So I guess its the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Tomorrow only 2 - 1 hour meetings and I think I'll do the mandated reporter online training that we have to do every year. Tuesday will be a long day! 3 hour meeting in the morning (SW/SP department meeting) and then 3-4 hour sped training in the afternoon!!! I'm sure my brain will be fried by the end of the day Tuesday. Three meetings on Wednesday that I think add up to 4+ hours and thankfully, so far Thursday is open. I got an email this afternoon for the crisis team - a school was having a vigil for student who passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier this summer - I thought about going out till I remembered that would mean being around people!!! I'm still social distancing!!!

    Sweet dreams

Good luck on your week, Karen.

We're going to run over to a town 100 miles away and meet up with our oldest 'couple' friends. They are the people we visit every winter in Arizona and who are our travel buddies. Last fall we went to Philadelphia together, and this year we were supposed to be taking a trip to the western National Parks (boo hoo). Anyway, at 11:00 we'll meet at a Mexican restaurant with a very large outdoor patio. So I am very excited to see them AND eat Mexican food!!! I should be back in time for Zumba tonight as there will be no shopping after lunch (another boo hoo).

So the bone in my foot is basically healed but my orthopedist doesn't want me to run for another three months. Yeah no, not waiting that long. I've been running for a couple of weeks, not far (no more than 2-ish miles) and definitely not fast. Ironically what hurts my foot most is some poses in yoga (triangle, warrior 2--both when it's my right leg in back--guess it's the angle my foot's at).

Ruth - these are great - love the top one - especially after 2 zoom/google meets meeting today. The one in the morning was okay but 3 hours is long!! The afternoon one was awful. Couldn't get logged on for first 75 minutes because the "rooms" were full. The organizers were told there would be no limits on numbers - finally those of us closed out were given 2 links to try - one couldn't get in and the other was all charter schools - so I just stayed logged on but didn't pay attention. The slide deck was decent. 4 hours of meetings tomorrow - 1 two hours and 2 one hour. This is so much harder than in person. I ordered a laptop stand that allows me to stand while working - can't sit for that long!!!

Some of the schools are starting in person and 2 different schools (not my district) teachers have tested positive for Covid. My district is online through October 16 and once we go back in person (if we do), staff will be tested every 2 weeks for Covid.

Wild fire by Glenwood Canyon is affecting the air in Denver - bad air quality, ozone action day - the news is saying Downtown Denver smells like a camp fire.

It's still hot at 10:20 - 84 degrees - high was 97 tied record. At least it is cool at 7:00 am to walk.

    I'm tired tonight - been getting up at 5 - 5:30.

    Sweet dreams

The whole school thing is a mess......everywhere. They are starting here with a hybrid schedule on the 27th. I got a call asking if I planned to sub this year. I said to leave me on the list but " don't call me, I'll call you". I will see how it plays out. I can't imagine how it can be anything but bad.

Here's the Walking Women setting a good example.

Ruth - love the WWW photos. I can't imagine many subs wanting to sub this school year. I'm just grateful that I don't have to be in a building starting out the year.

It's hot out!!! I waited till 8 to walk this morning and wow, it was so much warmer (hotter) than 7:00 - so back to 7:00 tomorrow.

Wonderland - Yikes! Great WWW photo Ruth. edj, your foot is a long recovery and please don't run as much as you want to and I know you feel you should.. We are both at an age where a fracture injury can cause us issues until the end of life. This full recovery your orthopedist is aiming for will take you further. Perhaps you can add in a physio? As far as yoga, I can see the weight shifts is standing poses and downward facing dog, putting strain on your healing foot. Matwork Pilates or Yin Yoga, both would be good. .

Hot here too in not so jolly old England. I'm slogging through a case study that is driving me nuts and have workmen here from 8am hammering out and in with a new bathroom. Have a class in a bit and another 5:30. On top of it all, I've been on a low carb diet for 4 weeks and I'm such a grumpy bitch without a little crunchy and sweetness in my life. I love Kamala Harris!

Ah LilacBlue you are the voice of reason in so many ways. Yes, you are right--I'm in this for the long haul so I haven't run since Monday morning and won't run until my foot feels the way it did last week. I'd debated when to return to physical therapy and perhaps now is the time. Oddly, down dog is ok (well except my hamstrings are tight as is often the case with runners), it's triangle, warrior one and two that hurt. I think it's the lateral pressure.

Low carb! Why? No judgment, I've gone vegan myself and boy do people like to share judgment about that :D

And I too love Kamala Harris.

97 again today. Fifty some days 90+ - average is 44 days - record is 77 - doubting we will get to 77 days 90+ (or at least hope so). Several wild fires in Colorado - one in Glenwood Canyon which is not contained at all after 3 or so days. I-70 is closed East and Westbound through the canyon. Another wildfire near Ft. Collins and one more but forget where. The one in Glenwood is affecting the quality of the air in Denver.

Talking to one of the district school nurses and she told me that I should not go back in person when we go back after mid October (if we do). She said to me, you want to be healthy and enjoy your retirement!!! She said I am high risk!!! I will talk to my Nephrologist on Tuesday and both my oncologists in September and October.

I got a letter today from where I donate blood - the time I donated was 06/21. My hematocrit was 14 so well within normal limits. They tested my ferratin and it was which is very, very low. Last year September I was told I was borderline anemic, but nothing has been said since. I need to go look at my CBC done a couple weeks ago. I don't take multiple vitamins and don't want to take iron as it will bind me worse than I already deal with. I talk to my Nephrologist on Tuesday and get his take as he is the one who ordered the most recent labs.

Hope everyone is staying safe and staying healthy.

Who knows if anyone will be going back in mid-October, Karen. My all teacher Book Club meet last night (outside). Three of the nine are still teaching, a couple of us are still subbing, seven have children who are teachers, one still has a kid in school & some others have school aged grandchildren. Everyone is from very concerned to scared to death. I could hardly sleep last night.....

I went to Dance2Fit and Yoga in the Park tonight. As anyone who likes yoga knows, being physically with like-minded yogis in a beautiful outdoor setting is the BEST! It is hot and humid here today. Tomorrow is supposed to be stormy and usher in some milder weather. Hope so!

Ruth - agree - not even planning that far ahead. My DD#1 was looking at airfares to come in October and for 2 tickets RT less than $500. Of course she didn't buy the tickets! Canada extended the closed border to USA through September.

Made it through the first week!!! Nothing planned for the week-end.

We're going to Nashville for Labor Day weekend. My DIL (whom I adore) is good with us coming if we either drive or fly non-stop so non-stop it is. The tickets were $$$ but that's OK. I need to see her, my son and their daughter, my namesake (Grace Elizabeth is her name, my first name is Elizabeth). We met grace when she was two weeks old and now she's going on seven months!

Here's what she looks like at six months (and no this isn't my first grandchild, she's our fourth but my older son's first):

    What a doll, edj!

We had a nice, stormy morning that gave us an inch of rain, cooler temps, and lower humidity. We took the dogs for a long walk and met some family for dinner.....inside a restaurant. The first time we've done that since March, and truthfully it made me nervous. It's going to be hard to enjoy 'normal" things ever again!

Most of my exercise with these blasted heat waves was hanging the laundry out and cutting my grass. Now that the heat waves are gone (for now) I hope I can get back to my normal routine.

Have been back into exercise this week. Took a Silver Sneakers Live Zoom Class, Bodyweight Boot Camp - Intermediate that was a real tough one, but I made it through. Other than that, Zoom classes from local Cancer Support Community - Yoga & Relaxation, Pilates & Relaxation, Barre-Lates, Zumba. Will try a Silver Sneakers Ener-Chi (tai chi) on Monday & see how it goes. Missing my Tai Chi classes and teacher from pre-Covid times.

I went on a 'Meet the Prairie' hike today. Our young guides are local girls who now live in Denmark and a passionate conservationists (one is a Naturopathic doctor, combining modern medicine with medicinal plants provided to us by nature....pretty interesting). The mother of one of our guides is a friend of mine, which is how I got invited on the walk.

Yeah, Lilac, great form! We almost always do this Yoga pose in my zoom classes. RuthBru - What lovely nature you experience on your walks. Prairie walk sounded really entertaining/educational.

Weather pretty warm/humid here, but we manage to have our windows open for a few hours a day. Rained pretty hard at one point yesterday and just rained a few minutes ago. It is raining often enough that yards are not turning their customary brown so far this summer.

    edj: Grace Elizabeth is PRECIOUS!

Ruth: The prairie hike sounds fascinating.

LB: That's so cool! You're famous! Great picture. Such a natural.

Hi All! It's been raining on and off this week. It made for nice thick grass that was really hard to push the mower through! Humidity and temps lower today. I sat outside this evening and read. It's been awhile since I've done that and it felt great.

    90s all week

Finally getting around to going through my late parents art work from their apartments. I've had some for several years when my mother moved to her last apt and not enough wall space. We are moving some of our pictures to make room and taking a couple down. My husband has a better memory than I do and commented that your dad loved this piece or your mom loved this. I had a picture of my maternal grandfather in my living room - been up for years - taking it down and putting up 2 paintings, one of each of my maternal grandparents. Will put my grandfather's other picture downstairs. There is one large oil painting that we put above the TV and its adds some nice color. My parents had a few painted silks framed and we are putting 2 up. My late father has 2 pieces from S. Korea that I don't particularly like, but they were very special to him so they are going in my living room. They were in my folks bedroom for years and years. Also have a small picture from my late MIL and a corner shelf she had in her bedroom that my DH made in junior high. The corner shelf will go above the piano corner wall and the picture in the living room. It will be nice to see all the reminders of my folks and my MIL. Now there is still lots to give away. Still have some little stuff - costume jewelry of my mother's to go through - I wondered why she had so many pill boxes but that is how she kept the jewelry - most of it is from Claires or other cheap places.

Lilac - great montage and congrats on being included

    Ruth - beautiful scenery

edj - Grace Elizabeth is a cutie and what a beautiful name.

Wonder - we could use some of the rain - way too many wildfires in Colorado

Celia - quite a lot of exercise classes.

Martaj - I have a very good friend in RI

Watching the news and then heading to bed.

    Sweet dreams
