Martaj - You look fantastic! Ruth, enjoyed the walk photos. B123 - welcome!

Had 3 in a class last night, 3 no shows and this gym works hard at keeping it Covid safe. I'm studying for my postural stability course today as no classes and Saturday I have cover BodyBalance/Flow as my course has now gone online and we are going over what and how too's of the case study due at the end of August. Dh and I are also going to start remodeling the two upstairs bathrooms as reported last January our plumbing broke and downstairs ceiling also in need of plaster skimming and painting. I've been looking at titles, basins, toilets, taps, etc..one bathroom at a time, starting August 9th. I'm also picking up extra cover/substitute teaching for those going on vacation or staycation, and there is a 14 day quarantine if returning from many countries with hot climes, such as Spain & Portugal. The list of countries having to quarantine from changes weekly and sometimes daily - so going away on holiday has become a real crapshoot.

Karen, glad you got the shoes, I totally relate! Nothing like new shoes to lift the spirits! I have the same gowns hanging in my closet from previous weddings, along with other dressy dresses that I never have an occasion to wear. I retired a few years ago, I'm finally purging my work clothes, as in general everything has gotten more casual. With Covid, I find I'm wearing the same "uniform" every day (shorts and tank top summer, yoga pants and sweatshirt winter), so why I am I keeping all these clothes and shoes?? Yet I still could go out right now and shoe shop, my big weakness, and also my big joy :)

It has been so hot and humid here for so long, we don't have air conditioning, so it was such a relief to have a somewhat cooler day yesterday, and to see 69 on the thermometer going to bed last night, downright chilly. Have a lot of housecleaning ahead of me for exercise, DS and wife and the twins are coming for a visit next week, FINALLY! I will get to hold my 2 newest grandchildren, have not seen them in person since they were born in March. Can't wait.

Pat....I can relate to the heat. I never had AC, and this includes the 12 years I lived in NYC. Most summers were brutal. One thing I learned when I lived north of NYC (still no AC, but much less needed) is that I tolerate heat much better when I get out and exercise, which I used to do in the mornings.

It's warm here, but not really hot other than a couple of recent days. (I went swimming in a nearby river on the hottest day.) Last night, I did a sunset ride on the trail that goes alongside Lake Sammamish. Just gorgeous seeing the setting sun reflected on the water. Plus coupled with the scent of the flowers and lake water. Divine.

I am down to the last 50 miles of the Virtual Seattle-to-Portland which I will knock off today and tomorrow. Tomorrow is a ride back in Skagit County with a friend, with hopefully a stop for pizza and beer. You can still do these things as long as you stay outside, and I think they have enough tables. (I scoped out one the local breweries last night and discovered there was a BBQ food truck. Will plan things better the next time I do this ride.)

Last night's dinner was a much more virtuous roasted cod with polenta and vegetables. The cod is extremely easy to make. Just put on my oval baking dish and top with sundried tomatoes in oil and olive tapenade. Vegetables are from the local farm stand.

Blackberries are out, but didn't have time to stop and make it back to my car prior to dark yesterday evening. On my list as one of the pleasures of late summer.

Cool this morning, so want to get out early rather than later. Perhaps a sunset swim later today? Life is good. - Claire

My foot is better, but I've been mostly swimming for exercise: an hour in the pool, by reservation only, with no having to share lanes and everyone apart from each other and wearing masks when not actually in the water. My type of social distancing! I can make a reservation as soon as I finish my last swim so I can usually manage to go every two days depending upon the timing of what is available (slots go fast, and the only two time slots that don't go fast are first thing in the am at 7:30 am (not for me) or at 6 pm. Six pm works, but only on days when we don't have our typical July/August weather pattern: monsoon, with afternoon thunderstorms. Yes, it is an outdoor pool. And today I have noon, which is perfect, especially on a sunny day like today!

Will be easing back into walking a lot, with a hike planned tomorrow morning.

Saturday: It's a beautiful, fresh day here. I walked over to my fitness center, did Zumba, and then joined DH for his walk. I think I will now grab a book and go out on the deck and read for awhile.

Sunday: Two walks & Zoom Yoga.

Pat - the shoes arrived today (or was it yesterday) - the black are a little too high and too thin of a heel for me - so went online and found another pair that are maybe 1/4" lower heel but fatter heel. They will probably sit in my closet for years, but with the new pair, its $15/pair with tax, so $30 for both pairs. Not sure if I'll send back the black that were. only $6 - rather donate them. For work, I wear jean type skirts but not blue denim with pull over tops and casual shoes. Week-ends and summer and winter clothes are all about the same, just tights instead of bare legs and no sandals in cold weather. Not counting my one dressy skirt, my "dress" skirts are poplin instead of jean like material. I"m all about comfort!! I buy my clothes to go with my shoes. The family trees are just ones that my mother's cousin typed up on word. Me too, I wished I asked more questions. My maternal grandmother never wanted to talk about her childhood or teen years. She was embarrassed to be an immigrant coming to Canada at age 11.

Claire - love hearing about your bike rides and the great scenery photos.

The nights here are cooling down into the 60s so sleeping is nice. Rain is in the forecast for this week - but we'll see if anything materializes.

Octo - you are a strong swimmer. I can swim but not good at laps, so to me the pool is for cooling off on hot days - but then again, I don't have a pool that I use/member of. Glad your foot is doing better.

Lilac - so many countries are requiring 14 day quarantine - of course it will never happen in the US!!! Foolish Americans! Heard on the news tonight that masks/social distancing/hand washing is 90% as effective as closing down the country. I don't get why people refuse to wear masks. Even when DH an I walk the neighborhood, we take our masks with us and put on if necessary. How are things in the UK?

Had to do about 2 hours pre-work - articles, videos for the 2 day trainings tomorrow and Tuesday mornings. They are via zoom. The school district is paying us for the pre-work and the training.

Next week is my girlfriend's 17th yarzheit (anniversary of her death) - and this year it falls on her son's 34th birthday (he calls me his 2nd mom). J's wife is asking close friends and family to write memories of my friend and she is putting a book together for him. This year marks the year that he has lived as long with his mother and without her and he is having a tough time. I asked my kids to also write memories - J and my son are best friends. He was telling me one of the memories that I had forgotten and it put a big smile on my face. My youngest daughter doesn't really remember R as she was just 5 when R passed away but she wrote memories of her and J. Did I just confuse everyone?

Almost time for after dinner walk with DH.

    Sweet dreams

Pat: So thankful your doctor tested you for Lyme disease along with COVID! And glad you have been properly treated. One of my dd's friends developed Lyme but it was diagnosed too late - her health will never be the same. So many complications from the disease. Again, thankful you were tested and treated early. Heart

    Welcome B123!

Ruth: I long for a fresh day.

Lilac: The process of remodeling is the pits but well worth it for the final results.

    Martaj: Beautiful picture!

Octo: Glad your foot is better and you are able to go swimming.

Hi Everyone! Still walking/running and mowing the yard. The air was so heavy and humid yesterday that I just couldn't do it. Today was much better and there was a breeze. A nice breeze always helps!

Wonderland, I've come to realise my taste in remodelling is truly pedestrian vanilla - I'm so boring in this tiny first bathroom and I have an MFA, good grief! Karen, wonderful J has you as a second mom. By the way, I'm reading House Of glass, by Hadley Freeman (<-- click to read reviews) a terrific summer read that you may enjoy.

Here in the UK, the government can't seem to get a hold on the pandemic. We have no track & trace up and running everywhere (has it in small pockets of the UK) and this headline yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/03/monday-briefing-shroud-of-secrecy-fuelled-bad-covid-19-decisions, including the UK population in general has little confidence that the government is or will make the right choices going forward. I don't think the PM will ever shut down the country completely again. The review of the GDP in April:GDP fell by 20.4% in the month, the largest fall since monthly records began in 1997, reflecting record widespread falls in services, production and construction output. On top of it we have Brexit looming, which will send everything soaring in the supermarkets and tank the economy even further. Just got an email yesterday by the manager of the community center where I'm moving Pink ribbon Pilates to and he is in a 14 day quarantine do to travelling to Spain for holiday when Spain was put on the quarantine list while he was there. The R numbers are going up and I'm wondering if they will make a correlation with the gym opening on July 25th and close gyms again. By the way, the gyms have been super in keeping it safe, cleaning and disinfecting constantly, much safer than supermarkets. Off to teach Pilates and yin yoga, live streaming and hopefully my lap top will not poop-out of Zoom like last week. Have to use my own laptop for live streaming because of music mixing w/Zoom and headmic.

Lilac - the book looks interesting. Definitely a genre a like. I'll probably order it. Still need to look at the link about Covid in the UK.

My training yesterday morning was good. Part 2 is this morning. Need to get busy and jump in the shower so I can get my morning walk in and eat breakfast before the training.

    Have a great day.

Lilac, I read the Guardian daily and yes, it's depressing how poorly our countries are handling this pandemic. It's appalling to me that the US is so out of control 30 countries have needed to close their borders to us. Insane.

Off to see the orthopedist in about 15 minutes, really hoping I'm fully cleared to move on with my life (and my running).

We still have no national PLAN to get us out of the pandemic, and I don't think it is going to disappear through magical thinking. It is scary & frustrating both.

Yesterday we went down to a state forest & hiked in to check out the only certified waterfall in North Dakota. Just under a 5 mile round trip & part of the North Country Scenic Trail, so it was pretty cool. On our way home we took the gravel road that is part of America's Scenic Byways and checked out some of the Points of Interest along the way. A very interesting & fun day. Today we took the dogs for a long walk out by a lake & I did Barre Sculpt.

Here are a couple pictures from our hike.

Thanks for the tip on the book Lilac, I just reserved it at our public library.

Ruth, that trail looks like fun, but the last picture would have me looking out for snakes!

Today is my b'day...just cancelled the reservation we had at our 'birthday/anniversary" restaurant...a reservation made months ago...so I will go to my Wed pilates class tonight and have a festive lobster dinner at home afterwards.

The freshman arrive back at my college in less than two weeks...ugh. The upperclassmen don't come back until after Labor Day, so I will be teaching on line as my classes are all upper or grad level. I have never had my office door closed so much.

We had nearly 5 inches of rain with tornadoes due to TS Isaias...the town looks like crap, but no loss of life. The one side benefit is after 10+ days of 100 degree temps we are in the mid 80's...

    Happy Wednesday, TT

We had a nice rain this morning, so the Wednesday Walking Women walked in it. I was planning to host a breakfast in my backyard, but we ended up in my not-so-clean garage instead.

My favorite teacher to sub for (7th grade American History), is retiring. He had planned to teach one more year; but with all this crap, threw in the towel. I did a long-term gig for him a couple years ago when he had some medical issues, and have been his 'go to' sub ever since. I would seriously teach that class for free (in a normal year). Very sad!

*I actually meant to post this on a different thread, but will leave it for my teacher friends here.

Didn't do many exercises yesterday. Hubby who has an extensive cardiac history, had 3 stents placed yesterday. in 2008 had 6 vessel bypass, 2 years ago was told 3 of grafts had closed. 2 heart attacks since then. Yesterday had cardiac cath, they were able to re-open 1 graft that had closed and added 2 stents below main graft going to left ventricle. He should now be not so tired and short of breath. Today will resume my work outs. Cooler out, not so humid but already 80 degrees and it is only 0730

I got lots of exercise today, topped off with Yoga in the Park. It was so nice out that our Zoom Yoga teacher took class outside for an in-person, but socially distanced session. So delightful!!!!

Martaj, hope this it it for the foreseeable future for DH and that recovery smoothly progresses. Ruth, I would have loved to have joined you at Yoga in the park - perfect framing and looks cooling and relaxing. CeliaC, easy does it and sending quick - healing vibes.

I sat most of yesterday in training from 9-4:30pm (raced across town and taught Pilates at 5:30pm) and letting you know now not to have a cardiac arrest in public at least in the UK. There is no longer 2 rescue breaths for every 30 chest compressions - rescue breaths are out the window - compression only unless wearing full PPE or at least CPR mask or a child or baby. The goalposts of life have Covidly moved. I'm now focused on a case study due at end of month for postural stability course I'm on and my confidence is shaky to say the least. Onwards, have a Pilates class at 1pm and need to look at costs to buy laser thermometer for my community classes opening early next. Happy Friday everyone!

Ran and did stairs at 8:00 this morning - other than grocery store no walking since. At 4:00pm it was 97 degrees. We will walk after dinner. Supposed to be hot, hot again all week-end so we'll have to get out early to walk. I go visit a friend who is 88 on Saturday afternoons - it will be a hot 15 minute walk to her apt.

Shabbat dinner is cooked - just need to warm it up before we eat.

    Stay healthy. Sweet dreams!
