    Wow that's wonderful progress, CeliaC!

I was pretty tired today, yesterday was definitely draining so did a short upper body weight workout plus the plank.

I did a ton of errands today, took a long walk, did the plank & my yoga teacher had a pop up Zoom class tonight, which was a nice way to end the week.

Pack & Sculpt yesterday. Went up and down the hallway and used the stairs for all but one trip to the car. Used the elevator for mom's wheelchair, which she got from another resident who upgraded to a motorized scooter. She hadn't needed it before but is so happy to have it. It's more comfortable and a better fit than the one provided by the NH. Movers come Weds so another few days of picking & packing items that aren't going into storage. Day 4 plank done.

Today was more abs (I do them most every day I work out as I've had 7 major abdominal surgeries and fear if I don't, my guts will plop on the floor!) plus legs.

I pick up my new bike today!

Went to Zumba, took a little walk (just because it is nice out), did my plank & a nice 30 minutes Pilates DVD.

    How's the bike, edj?

Getting ready to try it out this AM. Here's a pic from last night. This was a super expensive purchase so I'm 100% committed to mastering this.

Morning! Awesome bike edj! Have a great ride this morning.

I ran the St Jude half virtually last Sat and had a nice week of runs. We are having beautiful weather right now and most days have been no wind and temps in the mid 30's to low 40's. Perfect running weather! I am doing the planksmas with another group so I guess I am in as well! 😆

Enjoying my coffee and my tree this morning. Will head out for 10miles in a bit. Hopefully yoga this evening! We were in the car for over 7hrs yesterday, driving to pick up a new vehicle we bought. Everything is stiff today!

edj - great pictire! Enjoy your new bike. I have a cruiser and don't ride it much. I filled the tires in the spring and don't remember riding it even once!! Walking yes and now my Cubii early in the morning.

I finally went to the doctor on Friday. Saw the NP. Felt kind of dumb for going as I wasn't as sore at the appointmemt as I was in the morning or later!! Of course I wasn't Loopy. Contussion (bruised) back and tennis elbow - nothing new there. No treatment except to limit use of elbow - brace, ice or heat and topical pain cream. With back ice or heat. Back is getting better. I bought a arm brace and took the two metal plates out and of course, don't remember where I put them. I trying to wear it a few times a day. It's hard to do most things one handed. I can't take NSAIDS. Had labs for nephrologist on Friday. The numbers seem to go up and down - and different items high one time, normal the other. I'm guessing when the doctor gets them, he'll comment through the patient portal that all is stable. I'll take stable.

Nothing on the calendar for today except maybe a trip to Costco - its either today, after work one day or next Sunday. Dread the crowds.

    Have a great day.

    Great picture, edj!

I am glad you went to the doctor, Karen. It's always good to know for sure what is going on.

Runner, this weather is the best! I am going for a long walk with an old friend this afternoon since we can be outside! Then I will either do Zoom Yoga or go to Barre Sculpt....and do my plank.

Love the bike, edj! Enjoy it. I am off for a ride later today. I would recommend a flashing rear light, a mirror, a helmet, and something we don't often think of - a very bright jacket. They now make them in gorgeous colors other than neon yellow-green. Being visible is really important. Mine is in "HiViz Pink". It's windproof and keeps me dry in light rain.

Went skiing yesterday for the first time this season. Conditions were ice and Cascade Concrete, so down I went along with everyone else. Ouch. Fortunately, the kneecap bang faded when I was about one fourth mile down the trail after the fall. I had planned on doing it twice as only the flat road was open, but after the tumble, I weenied out. Really a better day for hiking boots.

A glorious day to be out and about and I think we will be having more snow later this week. This is what I would call "a good base". I got my groove back so will be ready for when we have real snow. I invested in a season's pass as skiing is something very safe to do outside. I need to order my pass from the place where I really enjoy skiing, but that won't be open for a couple of weeks.

I am off for a bicycle ride later and hopefully will pick up a tree. If not, I will get one at a small tree farm just down the hill from where I live. Lots of trees on vehicles driving back from skiing.

Progress on the "less of Claire" campaign too. I am determined to be back to my fighting weight as we come out of Covid.

No planks here. I once did one to find out what all the fuss was about. It was super-easy, the reason being that I get much of the same benefit from hauling my body onto my bicycle seat multiple times during a ride. Not to mention the effort it takes to hold myself upright.

Off to greet the day which is cloudy and relatively warm in the lowlands. Great day for a ride. I think I will order a bright red jacket for skiing. My old one is ten years old and has clearly seen better days. Time to upgrade. Hoping too that the new ski pants fit. The goal is to be able to move comfortably as well as be stylish and toasty. We shall see if I succeed. - Claire

Edj3, you look HOT and so does the bike! Good Karen and stable is good. Yup you are in Runnermum and Ruth, those pop-up classes are cool!

A 2:20 plank yesterday and off to match in a bit. Tree is up and the christmas decorations around the house makes lockdown a bit bit more tolerable

First ride this morning, I have a lot to learn. I'm not an adrenaline junkie so going downhill still scares me. And boy the wind chill was brutal, temp was 31, wind chill 25. Hands and feet need better gear, everything else stayed warm. I only did 6 miles, like I said I need to get comfy with the bike and with riding. Oh and I did my plank this AM.

Hi edj, So thrilled that you got out and cycled! I cycle in ski gloves once the temperature gets nippy. I find that a scarf is helpful, and I have a wool helmet liner that makes a major difference. Smartwool socks. Time for Christmas presents.

Make sure that you watch out for black ice with below-freezing temps. Very, very dangerous.

You will get your groove and gain confidence on hills. Though I admit to walking (both ways) some with a 10% grade or worse. There is one next to where I live so bad that I won't even walk it, with or without a bicycle. Narrow road, lots of traffic, blind corners, 15% grade.

I got in 20 miles yesterday. A bit sore after skiing and my body didn't want to do it. But I prevailed and am better for it. There was a bit of sun on the lake, so dazzlingly beautiful in the low December light.

Stoked that we should have a lot more snow to ski on by this weekend. Can't wait. - Claire

I wore my Nathan running gloves, they do well when running in temps lower than this morning. For real, my fingers still sting 10 hours later, so I have to find a different solution. But of course the upper body moves when running too so that's a big difference.

I adore Smartwool socks and that's what I was wearing. Of course the cycling shoes have vents, which I'm sure will be great come summer but are awful right now. I've got some good Patagonia wind blocking pants and with those plus a base layer on my legs and my shorts, my legs were just fine.

I've put all kinds of things on my Amazon wish list--different gloves, a helmet liner (although that wasn't too bad, I shoved a winter running headband up in my helmet and it was pretty good). I have a merino buff and I will be busting that out because my face was pretty darn cold. And I couldn't blow my nose! I'll have to work on that :D

Thanks for the encouragement on the planks! Today, did Pilates (planks included), Bodyweight Boot Camp (HIIT) and Cardio Mix (fun Latin music, taught in both English & Spanish). Tomorrow will be a busy day with Cardio Dance, Yoga & Relaxation, Barre/Pilates, Circuit Light, EnerChi, Bodyweight Boot Camp & if I still have energy Zumba Gold.

edj3 - great looking bike, and also you!

Claire - glad you were able to start skiing, too bad it was icy. Better days coming, for sure.

ruth - exercise & you managed to mail your presents, too!

LilacBlue - also managed to do some holiday decorating over the weekend. It definitely makes things look cheerier!

Edj, something to consider is silk glove liners and socks. They provide warmth without bulk.

A full day of Pack & Sculpt. Got the bathroom cleared out and sorted clothing & craft supplies. Brought two bags of photographs home to go through. With mom's permission, I sent to my brother ten oil paintings done by my grandfather and great-grandmother. Some of them are 100+ years old. Took them down very carefully and brought to the UPS store to pack and ship. Was home after dark and too pooped to plank.

Edj3, so great you got a ride in already and in December no less. I am with you, I live in a cold climate and the wind chill is tough when on a bike in 30 degree temperatures. I road for 7 miles last week (it was 42) but I was cold. My hands felt like yours, very tingly. I am going to take Claire's advice and get some Smart Wool socks, helmet liner, new gloves and a bright coat. Mine is black and perfect for riding but I did not think about the need for visual for the drivers. I do have a rear red blinking light which is so important but I am going to get a new coat. Also, I need to get a mirror. My neck does not swivel like it use to and I never thought to get a mirror. I want to see where the cars are behind me. I ride in suburbs and there is always traffic. I also do something silly, but it works until I buy new gear. I wear a mask (cloth) when I ride, but I fold it so it is not over my nose. This keeps my cheeks warm and keeps the

    Good job, bikers!

I did 30 minutes of abs & a 15 minute pilates challenge with Denise Austin this morning and will walk dogs again this afternoon. I have a Zoom meeting tonight. I must be a masochist because I write a note in each holiday card I send out......so that's what I'm doing now between exercising, meetings etc.

    *I also did my plank.

coffeelatte Claire_in_Seattle and badger thank you all for the advice and suggestions!

I'd forgotten until your post, badger, that I actually bought a pair of silk glove liners last year for running (Kansas isn't North Dakota but we get some wicked wind chills here). So I'll bust those out. I do have a pair of snowboarding gloves but they're so thick that I wouldn't be able to brake or shift so those won't work.

My middle weight running jacket is quite bright so I'm good there. At some point I'm sure I'll want a more bike-centric jacket just for comfort.

I did opt for the rear view mirror that plugs into my handle bar (so clever!) and actually used it yesterday. I didn't get a holder for my phone and may pick one up, I nearly got lost following a local bike loop so it would have been nice to have the map displayed on my phone as I went along.

Today was a nice ab workout w/ my medicine ball and stability ball, plus day 7's plank, plus upper body weights.

I have the same rear view mirrors, and the ones made in Switzerland have better optics than the ones made here. I buy them on Amazon. I keep an extra v-neck cashmere sweater in my car which I don if I think I'll be the least bit chilly. People here cycle with bare legs and arms when temps are in the 40s. I am not one of them.

Remember that getting slightly chilled means that the bath afterwards is infinitely more welcome. If I was really chilled and not going anywhere, I slip into cashmere sweats. Divine!

I have a handlebar bike bag with a shoulder strap for phone and wallet (lipstick too). Works just great, though I think mine is getting close to replacement.

Can't wait for my new SKI JACKET to arrive next week. I am good on cycling as bought two of the Endura I wear all the time. Still on Number 1. However, my newer helmet liner has turned up missing SickTired

Need to think about doing some real work. - Claire

badger: I know what you're doing is hard. Thinking of you.

Hi Everyone. I twisted my ankle last week so I haven't been walking. The swelling has gone down but it's still black and blue. Ugh. Don't want to start back too soon to have to just the waiting all over again.

Dh and I rang the Salvation Army bell for 2 hours today at a local hardware store.

Wonderland, good for you & DH to ring SA bells. The need is so great. Hope the ankle mends soon! I've been there (stepped in a prairie dog hole while playing frisbee) OUCH!

Moving penultimate day yesterday. Disassembled the stereo system and brought the components home (tuner, CD changer & speakers). She has a portable radio/CD player and doesn't want all that equipment anymore. I don't either, but DH asked for it, so now it's sitting in our living room. Wrestled mom's old wooden rocking chair into my car. It's not quite an antique but a family heirloom. Her mom bought it for her when my bro was born so it's 65 years old. Went through the apartment on the cell phone with mom as want to be respectful of her belongings. Have quite a pile for donating to St. Vinnie's. Packed up odds & ends she may want so I don't have to search them out in storage. Many trips to the car. Movers come today.

Lately, the only time I'm not cold through and through is when I'm using my Cubii. I. have Reynauds in my hands and once my hands get cold, my trunk gets cold and sometimes it doesn't warm up. Wonder what is my foobs, what is my thin body weight and what is getting older. Fortunately, I layer. The room where my work office is tends to be chilly. We have zone hot water heat - 2 zones on the main floor and 1 in the basement. The one for the bedrooms, I'm guessing starts in the master bedroom and this room is the last zone. I fingerless gloves that I sometimes where but its hard to keyboard with them. When I'm cold, I move the office to the family room if I'm doing paperwork or in zoom or google meets meetings. I don't come into the family room if I working with kids - not sure why as there is no one in the house but DH and he is in his office!

Warm weather the past few days - 60s but tomorrow drops to 40s (normal for this time of year) and 30s on Fridays plus snow is in the forecast.

My Fitbit doesn't track steps on my Cubii if it is on my wrist - I need to put it in my shoe/boot/slippers. Forgot this morning for the first 15 or 20 minutes. I couldn't figure out why my steps weren't be added till I looked at my wrist! I had been checking on my phone. I try to do 30-60 minutes before I start my work day. I usually manage close to 5K but this morning I'll be lucky to record 3K (though I will have done more than that) Then I try to walk mid day to just get out of the house then DH and I walk after work and after dinner.

My school district just came out with plan for spring semester. We go back on January 4th and kids will start the first week remote then elementary and ECE and sped center programs start in person the 11th. the 16th through the end of January middle and high school will start back, but most likely will be hybrid. It scars the heck out of me if the numbers don't get under control. We are still at 12+% positivity rate and the Thanksgiving chaos hasn't shown up yet. What about winter holiday travel? The district did say that this lan could change based on safety. I sure wish they would put educators as essential workers for the vaccination if we are in person.

Well, time to get ready for the work day to be on the computer by 8 - already sent work emails - like to send them early so I don't forget.

Have a great day - stay safe and stay healthy.

Did day 9 plank, and then went for a ride. I'm proud of myself for going, Monday was so brutally cold and I dreaded it. Plus I'm not proficient at all with my bike and I hate not being good at something. But I did go, rode for about the same mileage and slightly faster. I have got to get better gloves ASAP. Then I finished off at home with abs and legs.

Wonderland- I hope your ankle heals quickly. So great that you and your DH volunteered for Salvation Army. That’s a long time especially with your ankle

edj3- great photo of you with your bike. You’re definitely committed with riding in the cold.

Claire - love hearing about your adventures

Ruth- glad you’re feeling better and able to enjoy the things you love

Karen - I hear you about the Fitbit not logging your exercise. I have one and love it and am fanatical about reaching my daily goals. So when it gets buggy, I must fix it.

Badger- sounds like you’re almost done with the move for your mom. We did this almost 2 years ago. It was a monumental effort involving quite a few family members at different stages. And we all had to agree. Selling the house was quite the ordeal. Whenever I think about it, I get a fresh dose of gratitude that it’s off my plate.

I am doing the plank challenge but I may have missed a day. So many benefits to planks and they are so doable (versus other yoga moves).

This past month has been limited exercise other than walking (and not even much of that these past few days). Had so much back and hip pain sometimes going down my legs. So I stopped taking Raloxifene the other day. I’m slowly getting better.

I am having so much fun with my charitable giving this year. Last Friday & Saturday a local service club matched any gifts given in a Salvation Army kettle at a certain location, so I made sure to drop my check off there, which doubled my gift. Another service club was matching any donation made last Saturday to the local food pantry, so I made sure I got them my money (drive up, a masked person came to my car and took my check), a 12 year old boy made a big sign and has a big decorated box in his yard and was taking donations for the food pantry so I bought several bags of groceries and dropped them off there). Another store was accepting stockings filled with dog treats & toys for the dogs at the Humane Society so I filled three stockings for them.

The Walking Women are walking on our own, although I met up with a gal who lives a few blocks from me & we walked together since I should be 'safe' and we were sick of walking alone......I run out of things to say to myself after half an hour! I will do my plank now & go to Pound tonight. DH is golfing right now on December 9th.....which is almost unheard of in North Dakota!
