Movers packed up mom's apartment on Weds and brought everything to storage. Good day for it - sunny and almost 50. Just one more load of odds & ends, which I will take care of Thurs. I had had enough for the day and it was too nice to be inside. Got home in time to take a walk before supper. One more day of nice weather on Thurs then winter arrives for real - snowstorm Fri into Sat.

Badger - sounds like you are done with your mother's move. I did it 3 times with my folks - moving them by me from S.FL so just downsizing, then moving Mom to a different independent living community so more downsizing and then when she passed away. Last year at Thanksgiving DH and I and our niece had to clean out my late MIL's house when she passed away. We had to toss and decide what to keep and then get the house ready for an estate sale. When we left cleaning it out and tossing, the estate state people and realtor handled everything else.
edj - glad you are enjoying you bike.
Wonder - feel better soon
Ruth - you are too funny with running out of things to say to yourself!! I used to walk with my gf everything Saturday morning but we haven't walked since March. One day will start walking together but who knows when. I walk with DH by myself. I generally walk 25 to 45 minutes. I. haven't been running since i hurt my back , so now that its cold, probably won't run till spring. Ruth, Tuesday was Colorado gives day, so I donated to. several organizations. the week before was national giving day so also gave. I like to give when the money is 2x or 3x. A BC sistah who I met here runs a charitable organization back east and they are doing a gift drive so I donated. to her. The local news station does a Wednesday drive featuring a small nonprofit every week. The newscaster matches the first 50 $5 donations weekly. Yesterday the organization is one who buys gifts for children and grocery gift cards for families that live in public housing. It was reported that in 15 minutes $58K was raised. Since June only $2 million dollars have been raised for the they call a micro-giving campaign. People are truly being generous with $.
DH and I will be in round 2 of the vaccination delivery, but from what the news is saying that won't be till April, if not later depending on how things go. That's 4 months, so seems long, but on the positive side, maybe there will be more information regarding side effects and success rates. I'm actually hoping that my hematologist will offer it at my March visit.
We mask for everything, except for our evening walks when it is dark and no one else is outside. We are the only "crazy" ones to walk in the dark and cold!!! Speaking of cold, I've turned into a wimp with the cold. Between Renauds in my hands and my trunk (foobs) always being cold lately, I need to bundle up like I used to in frigid weather. We hit 68 yesterday but nights. Last night low was to be in mid 40s but that is also the high for today. Snow moving in tonight and tomorrow and Saturday high 20s and low 30s.
Tonight is the 1st night of Chanukah. With just DH and me we only light one Chanukiah and I no longer put out any decorations. this morning on fb memories its from a few years ago, with 4 Chanukiahs (Chanukah memorah). I miss those days. I will make latkes (potato pancakes) on Sunday - once a year doing. DH eats very little carbs so I will eat most of the them throughout the week and maybe freeze some. I wanted to make chanukah sugar cookies, but I'd be the only one to eat them. They are the log cookies that you refrigerate, then roll in sprinkles (blue) and slice. DH wants a rum cake for Shabbat dinner.
About 25 more minutes on the Cubii then time to get ready for the work day. Lots of computer meetings today and a few kids. My department meeting is 3+ hours and I have a one hour training. Forget what else is on the calendar. Then only one more week till winter break
Stay safe and stay healthy. Have a great day

I rode again today, even though I did yesterday, because the weather here for the next week is not suitable for cycling: rain tomorrow morning, snow Saturday morning and then the temps when I ride will be in the low to mid 20s through--well I just checked and it's for at least another week. I will say that cycling in these temps is very different from running in them. I've run in single digit temps with below 0 wind chills and didn't have my hands hurting like they do from the cold and wind while riding.
Anyway, finished out with upper body weights and a lot of good stretching. No plank today, that challenge lists today as a rest day.

I had my annual physical today, which I am glad to say I passed, and worked on the Christmas cards (almost done). Tonight I went to Barre Sculpt, which was hard! We did a minute of planks twice (one while doing stuff with our legs and one while moving a weight between your arms. So I am planked out. I then went to Dance2fit so am ready to watch something on Netflix while reclining!

Yesterday was so busy. 8 miles on my bike through some beautiful woods/bike path, walked my dog (aka Beast) 2 miles. little sore today

Been pedaling my Cubii - after about 15-120 minutes I looked at the app on my phone and realized my Fitbit was on my wrist so it wasn't recording so finally put it in my slippers. Will pedal for another 20 minutes then get ready for the day. It's 25 and dark so not wanted to walk - turning into a wimp. We got about an inch of snow - more predicted for tomorrow and even colder then next week will be 30s and 40s next week, more normal temps for this time of year. When the sun is out it doesn't feel so cold.
Have a good Friday. I'm sure I'll be back for a bit later. We got new window sills - put tile over the wood, so the house is dusty - we cleaned up the other day after it was done, but really needs another going over, then my regular Friday cleaning - plus cooking for Shabbat.

Karen, do you think a Cubii would work for someone who needs a hip replacement? We have a friend whose surgery has been delayed because of Covid. She is in so much pain that she has fallen into a depression, just sits in her recliner and eats so much that she has gained 20 pounds.......the last things you should be doing before a surgery! I am really worried about her and am trying to think of suggestions that would help

I was not feeling it this AM; did a 20 minute ab workout that ends with plank so I got Day 11 done but those planks are at the end. Yeah next time the plank goes at the beginning. Then I did bodyweight leg work. Then my right ribs hurt all morning. Blah. I took some ibuprofen and it's better now.

Some days are just BLAH! It's gloomy and with the wind, my phone tells me it feels like it's 19 degrees.....blah here too. I will plank as soon as I am done typing and maybe do an indoor walking DVD since I don't feel like walking outside or on the treadmill.

edj3, your sharing on how cold your hands had become and cold in general on your new bike, sent me off to research the effect cold has on bone growth. This was the conclusion: Prolonged exposures to low temperatures above freezing do not cause any bone damage. It's all good! Karen, happy holidays. Ruth, I hear ya.
Great going on the planking everyone! I've been at it everyday and today a few times as I taught a Pilates class and attended a live stream online. It's cold here and rain. Happy FriYAY!

Reporting back: I did the Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk. Three 15 minute segments; Easy Walk, Fat Blasting Interval Walk, and Power Walk & Tone (with light weights), followed by a 10 minute stretch. Also did the plank. I am not sure if I will get up to 3 minutes by the end of the challenge!

Ruth - the Cubii is considered an under the desk eliptical.
Just about candle lighting. Be back tomorrow night or Sunday.
Have a good Saturday.

Lots of exercise today getting my tree up and decorated. It's a Noble Fir from a tree farm about 8 miles from here. The person I normally go to only had 4 trees left, so I had to get creative. I went to a very strange place that was also out of trees, but scored at a place about 4 miles away. Tons of trees left, and I think this one is just gorgeous. Very fresh too. I can just make out the black swan towards the top. I brought it back from London last year.
This was after a flying trip into Seattle to get suet for puddings. I am very glad that I also got a couple of pork chops because I am too tired to make anything for dinner other than that and a baked potato plus reheat vegetables. The puddings will need to wait.
The butcher was like being in a food hall in Europe, so will need to go back for terrines etc. I bought 8 oz. of dried mushrooms, a real find as I love them in risottos, etc. I also have fresh chanterelles from Pike Place market. I bought a squab, which I don't think I have ever made, but I am guessing that braising it in the chanterelles, shallots, wine, and herbs could be a safe bet. Perhaps Sunday?
It smells just heavenly in here….need to get the pitch off my hands though. Not to mention that really fresh trees are a lot heavier to get from top of car to stand….quite the feat. No worries about exercise, not with all the walking and tree decorating. Picture below. - Claire

Beautiful, Claire!

Karen, Happy Hanukkah!
Gorgeous tree, Claire!
It's been snowing all day so it's looking Christmas-y. Very pretty. We could get up to 7 inches so Shovel & Sculpt on tap for tomorrow.
Got mom's apartment all cleared out on Thursday YAY! A bit frustrated that I had been asking which items she wanted from her apartment and was told "nothing" until the day after the movers packed & sealed cartons and put into storage. Then she gave me a list. <sigh> Luckily, I had brought most of the items home "just in case." One exception is a pair of sneakers she said didn't fit. Now she wants them but, too late, they are gone. Oh well, she'll get a new pair for C-Mas.

Planked and went to Zumba.

Well my DH turned 60 last Sunday so yesterday we braved it and both got our Shingrix shot. Have been waiting for a school break so if I felt unwell I wouldn't have the concern of our daily health screen. Well...we both have sore arms from the shot, but the quasi flu/cold symptoms are not here...(yeah, keeping it quiet). Everyone I know gets ill from the shot...for those who did, was it immediate? or might I still be in the crosshairs? It is a full day post shot.
Besides being on school break, Saturday is the only day I don't go to they gym, so I figured I had 48 hours between a 5pm Friday shot and my 5:30pm Sunday class. At 3pm Saturday still looking good. TT

I may have spoken too soon....DH says he is feeling not great, with a very low fever, 99.2...I think that in the statistical range of normal, but he says he feels it so...okay. I stay well, took my temp 97.6 which is normal for me...and probably why I am always cold a beautiful day in SE Virginia, temps in mid-60's, tretorns without socks and just a sweater, perfect!

I was a little under the weather after my first Shingrix but the second hit me like a ton on bricks! But not everyone has it rough. Some people it is just the sore arm.
0 -
TT, I had a sore arm for a few days after the Shingrix shots but no other symptoms of note. Pretty much the same reaction to annual flu shot. My DH felt crappy after both Shingrix shots. He hates doctors and never gets a flu shot so there's no baseline comparison.
One hour of Shovel & Sculpt this morning. Wet heavy snow so quite the workout. I put on the coffee and went to dig out the newspaper then just kept going. Got the sidewalks and front walk but left the rest for DH. I made lemon bars while he cleared out the driveway. :-)

TT - my only reaction to the shot was a sore, red puffy arm. On the other hand, DH got sick later that day of the shot and the next day - flu like sick - both shots.
Cold, cold today - 20 but felt like 12. I was too much of a wimp and haven't let the house all day. DH went for 2 walks. I used my Cubii a few times and managed 15K steps. We got a little snow yesterday and day, but probably less than 2". Not sure if there is more in the forecast for overnight and tomorrow.
This is my last week till winter vacation. Go back on January 4th. DH is also taking the time off as he has vacation days to use or he looses them. We might go to the mountains for a few days, but haven't decided yet.
Claire - your tree is gorgeous.
Sweet dreams.

I felt a little 'off' the day after both Shingex shots & my arm was a little sore. I would think that if you were going to have a reaction, it would be pretty quick.
We had DS, his new girlfriend (who is delightful) and their combined three dogs over for dinner tonight; so that was lots of fun!

TT - I had pains all over my body all night after the first Shingrix shot, no fever, felt fine the next day. I had fever and flu like symptoms which started a couple of hours after the second Shingrix shot. This was in the evening and did not last long - I took a Tylenol and went to bed, woke in the morning feeling fine, no body aches. I did have a sore arm for a few days after both shots.

Only an extraordinarily sore arm after each dose. I was very glad too as I got the first one and then two days later, I flew to Manila. What a weird year this has been--I was in Manila for most of January for work so I was there when Taal, a volcano about 35 miles south of where I was, erupted. What I thought at first were little gnats was actually volcanic ash! Hard to believe that was less than a year ago.

Thanks for all the Shingrix sharing. I continue well with a slightly sore arm and DH's fever is now gone so I feel really blessed.
On exercise, my fitbit died 6 weeks back and after a lost shipment finally got a replacement this week...how I missed it telling me steps and how much I slept or how badly I slept and I show my DH he HAS to do something about his snoring
70 today in Virginia...we will pay for it next week. Off to yoga this evening once the grocery shopping is done. My town has set up a German Christmas market with the little huts for vendors. I drive past it every day on my way to school and home. Looks lovely, but frequently way too crowded. I think folks are just getting tired of the restrictions...stay vigilant everyone!

Did my Day 13 of planks & 45 minutes on the treadmill. I will either do Zoom Yoga or Barre Sculpt....possibly both, as I am continplating doing some Christmas Baking, which translates into eating extra sweets!

Today I rowed (on the erg) 4,000 meters and did a 30 minute strength training workout.
It got up to the mid-40s here today. It was good for doing some outdoor chores and getting the rest of the outdoor Christmas lights up, but really sucks because I WANT SNOW!!!! Sorry, didn't come here to shake my fist at the sky.

3 BELOW here this morning. I guess we are into the winter season now. (YeIam, I'll trade you our dusting of snow for your 40 degree temperatures!). I did the plank & went to Pound this morning & will do Zumba tonight. I might make a few batches of Christmas cookies in-between. Not a lot, just a batch of a couple traditional family favorites.
