We are back in the bus. We should be in Branson early afternoon (It is a long way!! I already read one book & am halfway through another). Once we arrive: we'll check into our hotel, and go on a dinner cruise (with entertainment), and end the evening with the Presley Family Christmas show. I don't see much of a window for exercise today!

I took a pretty nasty fall this morning. Fell on ice that I did not see. I fell hard enough that two people across the street came to check on me. I was pretty shaken up as I don't remember falling this hard in quite some time. Banged by elbow hard enough to gash the skin wearing a big down coat, fleece and top, my back and hit my head. No bump on my head but my elbow is swollen and a bump of some sort on my tail bone. I called my husband to come pick me up as I was so shaken up. This couple offered to wait with me and even offered to drive me home. Banged up but thankfully I don't think anything is broken.

Surgeon's office called this afternoon and I'm going in Tuesday morning. I'll leave the appointment knowing if I'm having surgery or not. I won't do it until January as I won't do it while DD#1 and granddaughter is here and we leave a week later. I want to feel good for my travels.

    Weather is turning cold tomorrow.

Tomorrow I have an all day training and then its the week-end again. Against my better judgement I will have to finish a report that will take me several hours on Sunday. It's taking me forever to write as there is so much to write - so many assessments. I'm trying not to take any work home or work late.

  • @karen - I hope that you are feeling okay

Ouch Karen, you will probably be really sore tomorrow! If you can figure out how to not take work home or stay late, you are a lot smarter than me! I could never figure out how to do either of those things and still get my work done!

We finally made it to Branson! We went on a fun riverboat dinner & show cruise and to a music & comedy show called The Presley's Country Jamboree. Lots of holiday decorations everywhere!

Ruth - not taking work home is not working well - I'm so far behind on my paperwork. I definitely have to write this report. I'm just so exhausted by the time I get home. This is the first year that I'm trying to put myself first - but it is a struggle.

My elbow is quite swollen. Knot still on my backside.

Ruth - enjoy Branson. The cruise sounds nice

Karen: I am so sorry this happened! It must have happened so fast. How is your head?

Bluebird: Aspen, Maria and Moku are beautiful!

Ruth: Have a fabulous time! Did friends go with you on the tour?

I had a molar that started hurting in early October while I was in Hilton Head. Felt like I needed a root canal. When I got back home it quit hurting but started back up again last week. Went to the dentist on Monday for him to examine it. It's cracked, infected and I'm having it extracted today. It started hurting the same week I had an afib episode. "Dr. Wonderland" is now convinced the tooth has caused my afib to act up bc pain and infection can be a trigger for it. I can't wait to get this tooth out to test my theory. I will also discuss it with my cardiologist.

On travel to NC Central University in Durham NC…it has been cold in the mornings…mid-20's…

Take care Karen, your fall is so scary…enjoy your time with DD and GD this coming week.

Have been able to go to the gym 3-4 days a week…but gratefully after this trip, I am home for a couple of months, inclusive of nearly 3 weeks off over the winter recess, so hopefully will be able to regain my footing on gym and walking and diet when I am in my own control.

Enjoy your trip to Branson Ruth, thanks for the pictures.

Next week is my DH's b'day (63)…we have been having lots of talk about retirement…this coming summer, the next, can't really think we have much more than that…which is becoming weird as I am frequently in work groups where folks are talking about events/meetings/work happening in 2025+ (academics plan things years in advance) and I think…will I be here at the table then?

Goodbye November, beautiful moon the past few days, Happy start to December tomorrow! TT

Wonderland, I wouldn't doubt it's all related to your tooth! Years ago I was having migraines (which I have never had before or since). When a filling fell out, they quit. I had had an undetected cavity under the filling.

It's weird when you are thinking of retiring (although there were certain things that I was glad I wouldn't have to do again!).

Here is a collage from our riverboat cruise.

Great pictures Ruth. Looks like you are having a great time.

Wonder - my head is okay regarding the fall, but I've had headaches for several days - I think it is sinus.

My elbow drained a lot this morning - I think it was fluid was the swelling. Can't tell if it's still swollen, which might be good - I'll have DH check when he gets home.

I've told a few people that I'm calling in sick when my daughter and granddaughter are here, but the school I'm covering T,W,Th has a big eligibility meeting that we wanted to have T or W. Parents can't attend Tuesday. They are looking at TH or F as one of the people helping can't attend on W. I haven't told them about Th and I don't work F. Oh well, if I can't be there, I can't be there. There will be another Psych who can go over my report. I'm not giving up time with my girls. At one time, I would have worked but no more putting myself second!

It was cold today but no snow - tomorrow and Saturday will also be cold, though not bitter but I'm getting to be a wimp with cold so I really bundle up.

I have a photo of my 3 girls wearing the same outfit. My oldest daughter wore it at 8 months, her little sister at 2 1/2 months and now my granddaughter at 6 1/2 months. DD#2 put the photos in a collage.

    d938bec9-b292-42d0-9d92-1c4ca11e9844.JPG

My granddaughter is on the left. On the bottom right is her mother, the first to wear the outfit and top right is DD#2. DD#2 wants her sister to save the outfit for her if/when she has a daughter.

I don't post photos of my granddaughter on social media, so this is a real treat for my "sistahs"

Karen: What a special treat this is for us! Your granddaughter is PRECIOUS! I know you can't wait to hold her. These pictures are so special. Sorry about your sinus headaches but I'm glad they are not related to your fall.

Ruth: Your pictures are so bright and cheery. Sounds like so much fun.

TT: Last week I saw a friend of mine that I used to work with. I asked her if she was still working there and she said she was retired. Then she said something I'm still trying to decipher. She said it wasn't her decision to retire, it was God's decision. I thought that maybe she was forced to retire with downsizing or something like that. She is a very religious person so I didn't ask her to elaborate - kinda wish I had.

Molar extraction went well. He showed me the tooth afterwards and explained what was wrong with it. He also showed me the big blob of infection he scraped out. So glad all of it is out of my body! Will remain on antibiotics for 6 more days.

Getting the mice problem under control. Traps, poison, and a cat who loves to hunt have helped. Our pest control service is coming back tomorrow to check on the poison they put out. I want them to add more boxes. Dh and I cleaned the garage yesterday and that will help to look for any new mice activity. My nerves can't take the mice!

Love the picture, Karen! What cute babies, and what a cool idea to have a picture of each in the same outfit! I am excited for your upcoming week!

Alice, I am glad you got the tooth taken care of. Good luck with the mice!

We went to three shows yesterday. All good and very different from each other. First, Dublin's Irish Tenors & Celtic Ladies. After lunch, we went to a play/ musical called 'Queen Esther'. Amazing costumes, acting, singing, all the animals (horses galloped up & down the aisle, there were doves & parrots flying around, a dog, a camel, a llama, donkeys, sheep) , and the set was the most spectacular I have ever seen. It wrapped the theater on 3 sides and had buildings moving in & out for different scenes, buildings would open up like an egg so you could see what was going on in rooms, other rooms coming up from the floor or down from the ceiling! Amazing! We finished off the night with a high energy show at a family theater. I got 10,000 steps running from one place to the other!

  • Wow love these photos @ruthbru - they open up my world a bit - Thank you!

@karen1956 cutie petooties! That is so cool! I love it.

My latest bloodwork has not changed unfortunately so they will keep pausing the new Eli Lilly med until my neutrophils rebound… I think my oncologist is a bit surprised and skeptical of how well I eat and if i exercise - but I am eating very well - only organic, lower glycemic fruits and vegetables and organic chicken and salmon/tilapia - in healthy proportion…and I have been exercising about an hour a day lately so I hope that we see some WBC increases soon

we will remove the daily whey based protein shake from my diet (because - tahdah - I did not know that whey is a milk product OmG - and I had removed milk products and processed foods - or thought that I had - from my diet…) - my oncologist asked me to add hamburger meat - so I found an organic grass fed source - in order to help my WBC /neutrophils.

I have been vegetarian for 24 years because I love animals and I feel that there are enough different sources of protein out there for us without causing suffering and taking a life…so its quite conflicting - I will be following the oncologist advice no matter…and asking forgiveness/saying thanks…

I also spoke with my naturopath - he gave me some immune supplements (containing mostly mushrooms) and mistletoe to take as well

good news on the financial front - the Ontario government approved me for a drug coverage program for people who have high cost prescription meds…one of the hospital patient directors took care of everything… which is great so I won't be eating up my husbands health spending account - which he uses…hoping it works out this way in any case

Bluebird, it took a couple years for my WBCs to rise back into the 'normal' range, and they still are down near the bottom of normal. Sigh.....

Last vacation report: This morning we did our last Branson show, Hot Rods & High Heels, which featured music from the 1950s. Next, we had lunch at 1950s themed restaurant. Then we headed for Overland Park, Kansas (just south of Kansas City), where we went to a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. Our luggage needs to be ready to be loaded on the bus by 6:30am so we can start our LONG day of driving, driving, driving.

Ruth - sounds like a fun trip - worth the long drive. Safe travels home.

I was supposed to have a virtual doctor's visit at 4 pm yesterday and no one ever came on - it's what the pcp office calls "overflow" - so about 4:55 I call the office - they were shocked and so apologetic. They told me to call right after 5 and try to get the virtual doctor but I got just the regular on call doctor - she too was apologetic. She said that normally they don't call in Rx for sinus but since the mess up she would call in a Rx - we also talked about my elbow - she said to watch out if it gets warmer or more red. She called in Doxycycline that is good for sinus and skin infections. She only wrote skin laceration in my chart. I managed one dose last night and one this morning - getting ready to take at dinner - and my elbow is not as sore, not as swollen and not as red - and sinuses are better - my teeth and head no longer hurts.

Tomorrow I need to get ready for my daughter and grandaughter, I want to bake cookies and then I need to do work report and other paperwork.

It was damp, gray and cold today but should be nice by middle of week.

    Have a good night.

Glad you finally got to talk to someone, Karen! And that you got some medicine & are feeling better.

I have a grand total of 2,500 steps today. We got on the bus at 6:45 am.....12 hours ago. We probably have another hour on the bus & another 40 minutes in the car (we've had lots of stops for food, bathroom breaks and to let people off. We are the last stop.) A fun trip, but I will now be glad to be home for awhile!

Got back home from Durham on Saturday mid-day and went direct to a funeral of a friend…61, pancreatic cancer.

This is our last week of classes before moving into the final exam period…yeah!!!

Went to the gym at lunchtime.

While I loved all those pictures Ruth, that 15 hr bus ride sounds like the ride from hexx…TT

Sorry about your friend, TT. We are letting our young neighbor's dog out & playing with her a couple times a day until further notice because his mom is on Hospice & they are spending as much time as possible with her. Very sad.

I walked with 2 friends this morning, did a bunch of errands & started to get organized for Christmas Card writing. I will go to Pound tonight. I have to loss 5 Vacation Pounds before I put on 5 Holiday Pounds!!!

Bluebird: Hope your wbc goes up and you can get back on track with the new medication.

Karen: Glad your doctor called in an antibiotic for you. Have fun with your granddaugher!

Ruth: Love looking at your trip pictures. Now I want to go to Branson.

    TT: Sorry about your friend.

My tooth extraction area is healing nicely. Need to get back on the exercise bandwagon. I went to Charlotte to have a Christmas lunch with friends I have known for a very long time. Some of them since I was 4 years old. Came home and went to my town's Christmas parade. I walked over a mile to get to the spot where my dd was standing so I'm counting that as exercise.

Pound this morning, Zumba tonight. My old address book is a mess, so I bought a new one. My task today is to transfer the addresses of people I still keep in touch with from one to the other (making sure that I actually have the right addresses…..especially for young people who tend to move around a lot!).

  • karen1956
    karen1956 Posts: 4,659

Ruth - my address book has so many out of date addresses and people who are no longer with us - I can't bring myself to get a new address book and leave them out.

I met with the surgeon this morning. The appointment was good and I like the surgeon.  I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday January 16/2024.  Post op appointment is January 30th.   I'm happy with this decision as at least it will take care of two problems.  Taking out the parathyroid gland with the adenoma (kind of like a cyst) will solve the high calcium levels and my parathyroid hormone will return to normal.  There are 4 parathyroid glands and they are the size of a piece of rice.

Granddaughter and her mother (DD#1) arrive tomorrow morning! My mother used to say "I can't wait to see the kids, then add "you too". I can't wait to get home from work. I have so much stuff for the baby - its been fun buying everything. We borrowed a pack n play but someone is giving us their crib including bedding. When she first mentioned it, I thought it was to borrow for the week which is why I borrowed the pack n play - duh!!! Why would someone loan a crib for a week? Their son is 4 and like my granddaughter he was a way, way long awaited for baby but the mom is much older than my daughter. My husband looked at me and asked if he needed to put it together - yes - we have an empty room in the basement with his drums so the crib can share the room.

So glad about your good appointment with the surgeon, Karen, & it will be a relief to get that taken care of! Excited for Baby Reports!!! 👶

It was a beautiful morning here; half the Wednesday Women walked outside & half walked indoors. Since I was with the outside group, here's a picture of us.

My granddaughter is a love!! She has such personality. She shreaks, laughs and is so much fun. After dinner, my daughter put her on the dining room table on the table cloth - she scooted across the table trying to grab whatever her little hands could grab. We kept moving things and finally, there was an empty paper plate that she played with. She sure likes to be the center of attention. She had no problem coming to me but was a little shy with grandpa. We are so smitten.

My son had fun watching the baby - though he wasn't quite ready to hold her.

I'm TIRED tonight. I didn't really cook all that much - only made potato knishes and cut up a few raw veggies but for some reason I'm more tired than usual. My husband grilled chicken wings. Dinner was cookies I made over the week-end. My son is coming for dinner again Friday night for Shabbat dinner. I'm making boneless/skinless chicken thighs (DH will grill them), brisket cooked with chili sauce and onions in seltzer, potato latkes and a couple hot veggies. Dinner will be the same cookies as I doubt I'll have the energy to bake more.

I have a couple work meetings tomorrow morning that I will zoom in, then I'm taking the rest of the day off sick. Will go to Trader Joe's with my girls and go for a couple walks.

I told my big kids about the surgery before dinner. I asked them if they remembered that I was having problems with my calcium, the adenoma on the parathyroid and the elevated parathyroid hormone - I asked these questions one at a time. My son asks, so where is this going. Good question 😂 I told them the date of the surgery. DD#1 asked when I was going to tell DD#2 and I said when we see her. I'd rather not tell her on the phone as she is the one who worries about me the most.

HR will need a letter from the surgeon for FMLA. I'm waiting for the doctor office to call back - I want to know how long he will support taking off following surgery. They do not allow going back before 2 week post op visit. That would be January 30, a Tuesday and I was thinking waiting till the following Monday, but I want to be sure that it is enough time. I don't want to rush myself. I told the AP at the school I'm covering for a maternity leave which was supposed to be the third week in February. Her response was weird - the principal was out and I wanted to tell them today since I'm calling in tomorrow. They are going to put someone else in my place when I go on FMLA. Part of me would like to take one more week off and go visit my daughter, SIL and granddaughter. I'll have to talk to DH about this and see what air fares are like.

One more nice day of weather tomorrow and turning cold and maybe snow Friday and Saturday.

Well, I've rambled enough and I'm tired (hope what I wrote makes sense) so I'll wish everyone sweet dreams.

Of course you are tired, Karen, with all that baby energy in the house! She sounds like so much fun!!! We are on our last day of unusually mild weather too. It was 62 degrees yesterday, which broke our old record!

I will go on a dog walk later this morning & to Dance2fit & Yoga tonight.
