Karen: You're having so much fun with your GD! Enjoy every single minute of it. Thankful that you have been able to schedule your surgery. I'm sure that's a relief for you.
Ruth: Great picture of the WWW. My address book is a mess also.
TT: Happy Birthday to your DH! Sounds like a perfect day, especially with your town decorated for the season.
Finally walked today. I've gotten out of shape and I had to slow down sooner than I usually do. But I will keep at it until I'm up to where I used to be. Also, I haven't had an afib episode in awhile. I will continue to keep my fingers crossed that upping my meds and getting the infected tooth out has resolved that problem.

Told DD#2 about the surgery this afternoon when she was face timing with her sister and the baby - I told her that I was going to wait till I saw her but afraid that I would slip up. She also knew about the calcium and parathyroid concerns. Her big questions were to be sure there was no more cancer and about the surgery itself. She's the one who expresses her worries about my health the most. I forgot that I slipped about seeing the nephrologist when she was here as the appointment was cancelled. She knows his daughters. The kids seem to be taking all this in their stride. Like I said, cancer is their biggest worry.
I talked to the MA at the doctors office this morning and she wrote the letter for HR. After reading it, I'm a little worried about going back on Feb 5th. Of course the post op on Jan 30th will determine if I need/want to be off longer. I'm most worried about fatigue. The restrictions are no lifting greater than 10# and no strenuous activity till after Feb 13th. My work backpack is heavy due to my computer. I'm not going to push myself.
This morning I participated in 3 meetings via google meets till 11:00am then took off sick the rest of the day. A friend reminded me that we now get 4 paperwork days, so I'm going to take one on Monday. It is finals week at the high school so nothing to do there so might as well work at home. I will work on paperwork in between spending time with my DD and GD. I'll also do paperwork on Sunday. It is so nice to have the time with them and to spoil my daughter a little. She loves having mom's food and mom and dad helping watch the baby at meals and for her to shower and relax while doing so.
Sweet dreams

Karen, I am glad you told DD#2. It's too stressful to be worrying all the time that you, or someone else, might accidentally give it away. I am also glad that you are going to listen to your body when making decisions of when to go back to work. Enjoy every minute of the time with DD#1& the baby!
A cold front is coming through today. I have a couple packages I need to mail off, cards to write, presents to wrap. If it isn't so nice out, maybe I will get some of that done. I will probably walk with DH & Bruno, and need to do a toning DVD.

Haven't managed a walk yet today but between the grocery store and lots of walking in the house I have 6+K steps. DH and I will probably go for a walk after candle lighting - it is the 2nd night of Chanukah and Shabbat - this time of year Shabbat comes in early, before 4:30.
I made potato latkes for Shabbat dinner as well as pargiot (boneless, skinless thighs), brisket cooked in chili sauce (my son's request, green beans and squash. It doesn't look like a lot of food but I know there will be plenty of leftovers. Dessert is cookies from the freezer.
Loving my little munckin!
Cold and gray out tonight and maybe snow.
Have a good Friday night and Saturday.

The thread is quiet - I"m the last post
Having a blast with the baby and my daughter. My granddaughter has so much personality and the best smile. When my daughter was born, she was given this large white teddy bear - bigger than her and we bought a rocking chair that I think I used once to nurse - well DD wanted to take a picture of her daughter with the bear and the rocking chair. The pictures came out great. Their visit is going by all too quickly. Today we are going to DSW to look for snow boots for my daughter and Target to look at baby toys, not that my granddaughter needs any. Between grandpa and me and her aunt and uncle she has 10 or 11 new toys - though not all are big as well as 4 books. Monday I'm taking a paperwork day so I'll have more time with her, though I will have to do some paperwork.
Saturday we woke up to a couple inches of snow and cold. It's currently in the teens but with wind chill feel like 7. Windy tomorrow but temp will be a little warmer.

Hi! It is so lovely to read everyone's post and catch up…
@karen1956 sounds like you are really enjoying your granddaughter! and such a support and a break for your daughter <3. I am sending you my best wrt your upcoming surgery.
@ruthbru really enjoyed the photos - all!
@wonderland fingers and toes are crossed for you…I get AFIB on rare occassions with migraines/vomitting - sets off my vagus nerve - not fun and I am so sorry that you have been dealing with it - but really hoping they took care of things for you.
@trmtab my condolences. I hope that you are doing okay.
I have been a vegetarian (pescatarian) for over 25 years - my oncologist convinced me to start eating organic chicken breasts daily when I began chemo in March of this year - I listened. Two weeks ago she asked me to also eat ground red organic meat to try to help my WBC count…it was difficult but I did…I also started Mistletoe (Iscador injections) and some naturopath supplements - primarily dried mushrooms - meant to assist the immune system and from what I can see two things happened:
-my WBC count near doubled to 3! from 1.7…(my neutrophils more than doubled to 1.96! from 0.7 )…
-the other thing - inflammation and headaches/migraines… I was in a car accident many years ago and suffered daily from chronic pain/headaches but when i changed my diet after being diagnosed to essentially an anti-inflammatory diet (veg/fruit/berries/fish/organic chicken with nothing processed and no milk products)- my headaches and chronic pain had disappeared…now its back with the red meat introduction so… will omit the red meat again and hoping my WBC will maintain themselves for now.
They start me back on the new anti-proliferative drug today at a lower dose moving forward - I read the effectiveness is not really less than the full dose…(from what i can discern it is sort of like moving the needle from a grade 3 to a grade 2 in terms of proliferation). Blood gets tested again through the oncologist on Jan 5 but I have an option to test earlier through the naturopath
Exercise: was able to maintain 30 min compound movement exercises with weights plus 30 min moderate treadmill/elliptical daily until Wednesday- migraine with vomiting for 19 hours on Wednesday…took several days to recover energy-wise…continued with 15 min kettlebell weights and 20-25 min light to moderate treadmill on Saturday and Sunday - hoping to go back to normal today
Long post phew…
It is a blanket of snow here today…this is my view of the dog run
as I type this post

Bluebird, we got snow too, so have to get used to winter driving…..and walking again (the gramma shuffle!)
Interesting about the blood work. Fantastic that the WBC doubled! You are probably allergic the red meat. I have a friend who sadly is (sadly because she really liked red meat!). I would think chicken & fish should keep you in the normal range.
I went to Zumba this morning & finished up buying Christmas presents. Now I want to finish cards & maybe make some Christmas cookies.

DD#2 went to give blood last week and her hematocrit was too low. She told them she ate chicken the night before but they told her to eat red meat.
The visit with my daughter and granddaughter has come to an end. They leave in the morning to go home about the same time I leave for work. I will miss my little munchkin. She has so much personality. I'm hoping to extend my FMLA following my surgery to be able to go see my kids. I want to take off till restrictions are lifted then an extra few days to see the kids. I'm really worried about fatigue after the surgery as I'm already tired by the end of the work day. For now, I'm schedule to be off work 3 weeks but I want to take 2 more weeks. Restrictions last a month, so only a week after they are lifted. Since I already turned in my paperwork for FMLA, I will need to wait till my post op visit, but I think we will buy tickets before then.
Bluebird - your photo is not showing up. Interesting about diet and symptoms. I've always eaten healthy, but I do enjoy treats. During the week we eat mostly vegetarian or pescatarian and on week-ends we eat chicken/beef. That's not to say we don't eat meat ever during the week. I cook everything from scratch, though I don't cook fancy. Good luck on your next set of labs.

Glad that you had such a wonderful visit, Karen. I imagine your house will be much too quiet tonight. Take all the time you need after surgery. If you go in when you aren't ready, it will just set you back some more. On my computer, there is a little icon on the bottom of Bluebird's post that says IMG 4051.png, when I click on that I can see her pictures.
I have a dentist appointment this morning. I will go to Zumba & Yoga tonight.

Ruth, yes the house is way to quiet. It was so hard saying bye - kissing Sara Faiga for the last time for a couple months.
Tomorrow is my team's last meeting of the year, book study and holiday party. I may tell my friend who does our assignments that I might be out till February 20th. I really don't want to go back till the restrictions are lifted and that is Feb 13th so the 20th is only 2 more days off work. If I take off only till the 5th that is 11 days off work - going back on the 20th is another 8 days off work. I have 575 hours sick leave which is almost 72 days - so if I take the extra 2 weeks, I'll still have plenty of sick leave.
It is damp, gray and very cold today. Feels and looks like a midwest winter day. But it will be 60 by Saturday.
Only 1 week till we leave. Start date for University is now December 31st - DD#2 says it's pretty much definite as they were given their schedules. So she'll get to spend the whole time with us which will be a treat. She is bored. She will volunteer with us. We are bringing 2 duffle bags with supplies for soldiers. WE will bring them to one of the bases and do some other volunteer work for soldiers - one is making and serving dinner to soldiers and their spouses and we will also pick fruit and veggies on farms. At night we want to connect with a few good friends. It seems like we are there longer but when you account for loss of a day due to time change and leaving just after midnight we are really only there 12 days counting the day we arrive. Short visit. DD#2 is already saying she hopes we come in the summer - my answer is of course. I would like to go for at least 3 weeks.
Well, I have to go write a goal for an IEP meeting tomorrow morning.

Oh my, Karen, I didn't know you had travel plans! You won't have much time to miss your granddaughter before you are off on another adventure!

Karen: I am so happy for you and your granddaughter's visit. Your writing is full of Joy and Happiness. What a fun time you had just being a grandmother. And now you're planning for your next adventure: travel, volunteering, being with dd. I love reading about all your activity!
Bluebird: Yea on your wbc increasing! Hope they continue to go up up up. Goodness, I'm so sorry about your migraines and sickness from them. Thanks for posting your pretty snow picture.
Ruth: We are going very easy this year with Christmas. So far I have only 2 small presents to wrap.
Dh and I rang the Salvation Army bell for 2 hours on Saturday. I was pleased with the number of people who contributed. Sunday turned cold, rainy, windy. Yesterday dh and finally did something we had been talking about for months. We got new phones and transferred our service to Spectrum with their special of buy one line for $30 and get another line free for 12 months. They even gave us credit for trading in our old phones. They paid the trade-in value plus $100/phone just for trading them in. We visited a Spectrum Store and let the employee do all the transferring, etc. instead of doing it at home thus stopping the cussing and shouting that surely would have happened if we did it ourselves lol.

I always have the store people program my phone. There would probably be, not only swearing, but a broken phone if I had to do it!
Here's the festive Wednesday Walking Women.

Hi everyone
So glad you had a wonderful visit with DH and granddaughter over Hanukkah, Karen.
Ruth, I know Bruno has stopped growing, but he must weigh almost as much as you! He looks very powerful.
Got to the gym 4 times this week, will miss tomorrow evenings class as we head to the Naval Base for my DHs commands holiday party.
We are in the finals period at school through to Wed of next week…then off for 2+ weeks, can't wait.
Saw my GP doctor this morning…"all okay" although some of my blood numbers have been WAY off since I started BC drugs and have stayed off ever since, my GP doesn't see any alternative than letting my body slowly get back to normal…but at this rate it may take another 5 years, yikes! Instead of waiting a year for new blood work, I pushed to at least see some progress in 6 months or else think about being more proactive to really get back to normal ranges. TT

I went to Pound this morning. I think I will go to Dance2fit & Yoga tonight. I have my annual physical next week. My blood work looks good, but my cholesterol total does not. (Bad genes). However, the ratio between the good & bad cholesterol is fine….I really, really don't want to go on medication, so we'll see what the PA says.
TT, Bruno weighs 97 pounds and IS very powerful……which is why he goes on walks/run/hikes etc. out in the country instead of walks around the blocks in town. He just had his 3rd birthday!

Love Bruno's side eye <3<3<3

TT: I don't think I could wait a full year either. Hope you see improvement in 6 months.
Ruth: Oh my goodness, Bruno 💗
Walked this afternoon.

I'm officially on winter vacation! I have lots of paper work to catch up on, but it won't be done during break. My next few days are busy with getting ready to go visit our daughter. I hope to have time for a hair cut and mani/pedi.
Yesterday afternoon my team had our monthly meeting then our holiday get together - no drinking. I got home at 6 and I was totally exhausted. I can't believe how tired I am all the time. After dinner, when I sit down, I nod off till DH and I go for a walk. I've been falling asleep on the sofa and then when I wake up, I climb into bed.
I'm so glad that I decided to take an additional 2 weeks off after surgery. I will get the extension for HR at the past op on 01/30 (surgery is 01/16). Hopefully, the surgeon will agree to the extension. I'm just worried about fatigue. Finally, I'm putting myself first! In all I'll be off work for 5 weeks. I have plenty of sick time for that is not a concern.
In the couple days since my DD#1 ad GD went home, GD has started sitting independently. She could sit for a few seconds on Monday night. Exciting changes. She will be 7 months on Saturday.
Happy birthday Bruno. He is a beautiful boy!

I think you blink your eyes & a baby is doing something new. It really is amazing! I am glad you are taking the extra time after surgery, Karen.
Bruno says thank you for the compliments & please send dog bones!🐶

Love the WWW christmas picture.
And another Happy B'day to 97 lb heart throb Bruno!
Oh, similar to others recently, the Dr told me to eat more meat! Wow, has that advice come full circle. TT
1 -
I baked Christmas cookies all day; which can't count as exercise, especially since I did some sampling.
2 -
I'm baking cookies tomorrow with my sister, sil, and dd. It will not be counted as exercise.
Sat outside in the sun and read my book this afternoon. Walked. Then shopped for cookie ingredients and a few other things.
1 -
No baking for me till 2024. Still have cookies in the freezer even after DD#1 took a few bags. I did make cranberry muffins yesterday as I like them for breakfast and I make them several with me.
GD turned 7 months today - the time is going all too quickly. Keep checking flights for February. My poor VISA - every time I think the bill won't be so much it is! But it's worth every penny to see my kids.
Going to start picking out clothes tonight to take. Want to be finished packing tomorrow night or early Monday morning. I'm taking 4 jean skirts plus flying in one. I know that is way too much for 12 days, but as DD#2 likes to say, I want choices. Now to pick tops. Tights, leggings, shoes etc will be easy. Coat/vest,fleece and hoodie, I think I've got picked out.
Tomorrow, I'm going for a haircut and mani/pedi. I need to do a few things in the house and run a couple errands.
Monday, I have a "housecalls" visit that is part of my Medicare Advantage - I get a $50 Visa gift card to its worth the time - and they come to my house. Then to the bank and meet a girlfriend after lunch and lastly, DH and I have something late in the afternoon. By the time we get home from that it will be last minute things. Hopefully there won't be many last minute things, besides gather snacks and something to eat on the plane as we leave at 9:30am but get in the Boston at 4:00, then a 4 hour layover.
I've tried really hard to not have much produce left to throw out and I think I've done a pretty good job.
Well, I best get busy.
1 -
Ah Karen, the getting ready to leave drill which I am so bad at! Packing is my nemesis! I love all things cranberry, so those muffins sound delicious.
I walked at out fitness center this morning & spent most of the rest of the day cleaning house. I think I now have a guest list for Christmas Eve, so I've been working on a menu and grocery list this evening.

Pound/Barre & Yoga today. I've only snitched two cookies, so am being pretty good so far today! 😂
1 -
Safe travels, Karen!
Zumba & Pound today.

Have a fun safe trip, Karen!
Ruth: I've snitched way more than 2 cookies. They keep calling my name.
Walked today.

Wonderland, the cookies are calling my name too. In fact, I was just sitting here thinking about them!!

DS is taking us to the airport, We have 4 large duffle bags (2 with medical supplies for soldiers, and one for each of us), we each have a carry on and a backpack. Two off the duffles were very light weight but no wheels. DH will have to get a cart. Can't do curbside check-in with international flights. It will be a long day of travel - get to the airport 2 hours early, 4 hours to Boston, 4 hour layover, then 10 hour flight. 20 hours not counting getting to airport and then once we arrive going through customs, renting a car and driving to where we are stying. In all, the travel is around 25 hours. But so worth it. I sure wish we were going for longer. But finishing work on Thursday, it would have been hard for me to leave Sunday or even today - I just don't have the stamina anymore.
We will walk in the airport here and in Boston to get steps in. DS is picking us up at 7:30 so no time to walk before that.
Ruth and Wonder, what type cookies did you make?
Jazzy enjoy your getaways
I'll try to check in while I'm gone.
Sweet dreams

I am tired just reading your travel day, Karen! Hope all goes as smoothly as possible!
I made cookies that my mom always made (I still have the recipe cards in her handwriting). Peanut butter blossoms (with the Hersey Kisses in the middle of the cookie). A Candy Cane cookie (you divide the dough in 3 piles, put red food coloring in one pile, green in the second, and leave the third), You twist the white & red or green into a 'pole' shape, bend the top so it looks like a candy cane. And I made Cookie Cutter Cookies; put dough in fridge, roll out, cut into shapes (I have a box of all different shapes from when DS was young), frost and decorate. (The secret ingredient is orange peel in the dough.) That's all I made because they are fussy & take a long time!
Errands today, Zumba & Yoga tonight.
