Yesterday and today...managed to run after work as time permitted...at PT on treadmill.  Fifteen minutes each day only.  I really want to get to a point where I have the time and energy for my workouts as I did them before surgery...  Sometimes my schedule just isn't very accomodating!!

I hope you all are having a wonderful night!

Had plans to come home and add another sweat session. Went to PT and did core exercises on the ball. Getting a cold and have a very sore throat so taking it easy. Will be up and at em in the am for a 45 min sweat session. Great job girlies!

Welcome back Natsfan! Sounds like a fun, fabulous and fascinating holiday, except for the finger thing . . . ouch! Hope all feels better and heals quickly.

Today I did a 30 minute walk, 21 minute run2/walk1, and a 60 minute tai chi class. I seem to have a lot of energy the last couple of days (a post holiday burst?) Not sure if it's been enough to make up for the previous 4 days though! The scale will soon tell . . . no matter, it feels good to be back on track.

Did another hour on the treadmill. I have been eating way too much.....first the Thanksgiving food and now the leftovers, I think I am nearly out of everything tasty, so I will be back to my more 'normal' diet.

Mary, other than your finger, your weekend sounds wonderful. How awesome that you could trace down your relative. Gives me goosebumps!

Just got done going through my Messiah practice CD. I don't know if I was singing like a bird, or if I sounded like a Tom Cat howing on a fence in the alley; but all my felines gathered around and listened attentively to my little 'concert'! Undecided

Natsfan sounds like fun exept the finger incident.  Hope it is not broken.  I love history and geneology.

Walked my normal 3 miles yesterday but added 4 city blocks to it.  Not sure what the distance is on that.  My goal is to work up to 5 miles.  I go to PT over my lunch hour today and will walk again tonight.

Didn't run today as I got up too late.  Had dreams about it though.  Does that count--if you dream about working out are you tricking your body into burning more calories?  Tongue out

It's a gorgeous Florida day today - clear skies and 68 degrees.  Had a good brisk-ish walk around the block, feeling good 3 weeks post-op.

This morning I had my first PT session - one hour with an experienced physical therapist familiar with all things BC related.  She did a sternum release/massage - felt good to loosen up that tightness.  I also did arm and shoulder mobility stretches - more of the same that I've already been doing.  Next session is in a week, can't wait.  She was fantastic.

yay Ruth...singing is soooo healing and fun, of course! the women's choir I sing in is performing this weekend...the version of Ave Maria we sing gives me goose bumps...(I'm a second soprano)..the first sopranos...not sure how they do it!

Badger - good they caught the cataracts! The operation is so much faster with laser. A friend of mine had the surgery a couple of years ago and had better vision all around than she had in decades. I hope yours goes smoothly as well.

Went to the chiropractor tonight and am icing my back instead of lifting weights tonight. Very inflamed, which explains the pain I am in...maybe it is not Arimidex!?!???!Will stretch tonight and if the rain stops I will walk to work and back tomorrow.(yep...rain onNovember 30th..in Halifax, Nova Scotia..crazy!!)

Just got my butt KICKED doing Firm Maximum Calorie Bootcamp for an hour. Seriously tough workout......... Ruthbru, have you done this one? I was just about to pass out by the time it was over. And my thighs will be yelling at me tomorrow for the 6 million squats and lunges in this workout.

Hoping to ask for some advice. Pre-BC, I was about 35 pounds heavier than I am now. Tried to take up running about a year and a half ago, was very hard on my joints because of the extra weight, and then I tore my hamstring. That was the end of that. This weekend, ran about 2.5 half miles at the track (well, I jogged) and it felt great, totally different experience. However, my shins were so painful afterward that I hesitate to do it again. Do any of you runners recommend a program to ease me into running? How do I start and attempt to work up without totally injuring myself? My husband and his whole family are runners and they love to do road races as a family. I'd like to join in this spring and summer. Any advice is so appreciated!!!

Thanks girls, you are so inspiring to me and keep me motivated!

Hey ladies !  Glad to see everyone is so active and busy.  I am exercising about every other day.  Everything has been low key. Walks with Hubby or Wii step or a half hour of yoga.   I would like to amp things up.  But, between two jobs and family life and  a tendency towards being a couch potato I just don't make time for exercise like I think I should.

Sandeeonherown - I thought my back pain was from the Tamoxifen, so we switched to Arimidex - and it turns out I have two herniated discs!  I am very grateful to have an oncologist who wanted to be certain it wasn't either a side effect or mets.  You might want to get checked out, although I know we're all sick to anything of more tests.

    Hope you feel better soon!

    Painfree purrs,

    Jenn

I will have to look for the Bootcamp because I love the hard FIRM DVDs!

Did a mixture of things tonight; 35 on the treadmill, 35 FIRM Hardcore Fushion, and 10 minutes Denise Austin thighs.

A cold icy rain here today. I wish I were in Florida, or anywhere where it is 68 degrees!!!!

Sandee, Jenn is right. It definitly could be some 'normal' none cancer/armidex pain. Maybe talk to your GP.

orangemat, thanks for the link.  I've printed it out and will give it a try (after all I did sign up for a 5K in DisneyWorld in Feb!).

So I like my new acupuncturist and he wants me to continue (read, get back to) exercising, adding more resistance work so I have to somehow come up with a schedule because that's why I haven't really been exercising - so much to do, so little time!  But, health matters so this is not an option - it's a must do!  I hear voices....

Had a great PT workout today.  This last six weeks they have really worked on stretching my pec muscle now they are working on strengthening my back shoulders.  Turns out they are weak and as the pec muscle was tightening up it was pulling on my shoulders back and then my neck started really bothering me.  All of it is much better now but will be nice when all the pain goes away which I am sure it will.  I have 6 more weeks of PT.  Started back at yoga Monday and will go again tomorrow night plus the walking that I am doing.

Body Pump and Body Combat classes tonight with the wonderful Eduardo I had such a good workout it feels like my arms are going to fall off!!!!

Mary your trip to the battleground sounds fascinating although I'm sorry you hurt yourself, sounds like Mikey is enjoying his new regime. Patoo get yourself some workout bands that way you can watch tv and do bicep curls and triceps kickbacks, you can do front raises all kinds of things right in the comfort of your living room. Ruth come to SoCal we still have nice days but tonight they say we have gale force winds coming.

patoo, were you the one who was interested in the 5k that's on New Year's Day? I posted the link in the running thread, but here it is as well: 1st Day 5k

As for the Couch to 5k program (often abbreviated C25K), you can get a free podcast from iTunes for each of the nine weeks of the program (3x/week, about 30 minutes each). Get the one by Robert Ullrey to start, and if you're tired of his music, you can pay for the app that lets you use your own music. Basically it's voice-over instructions as to when to walk and when to run, so you don't have to look at your watch all the time for the transitions. But yeah, the initial link I put up last night shows you the breakdown of how you're eased into running within the walking segments. Totally an excellent and accessible learn-to-run program for all!

Spent the day yesterday going from PCP to radiologist to hand specialist - yep, the finger is broken.  The finger is in the cutest little hard finger cast for at least the next week.  So now in addition to the post-surgical restrictions from my recon revision, I now have additional restrictions on using my hand.  AARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!  Yell

2+ mile walk this morning - at least I'm allowed to walk!!  Cool

Thanks, Esther. Can't wait to look at the Couch to 5K.

Ruth, I found that workout on the wonderful www.gaiamtv.com site that I joined. They have hundreds of full length workouts. Leslie Sansone, The Firm, Jillian Michaels, Mari Winsor, just tons.

Tonight I will do 45 min Firm cardio toning with resistance bands and 40 minds of yoga. Can't wait to get home!

Breast cancer yoga was wonderful. A little easier than what I am used to, but it is a small group of about  8 women, all of whom are survivors, many of who have had BMX's and the teacher is really in tune with what issues we have post surgically and trying to help with them. It is a really nice feeling of camraderie.

Did a 60 minute tai chi class then took a mile walk with the dog. I might add some arm work later. My hip's a little sore from the run/walks I've been doing so decided to take it a little easier today.

Orangemat: Thanks for all the info on the C25K! Especially the iTunes resource. I'm going to check it out.

Happy to oblige, quiche and misswim (and anyone else who's interested). I coached my DH through the program three times before it finally stuck with him (he kept on getting injured because he'd try to do too much too soon, a typical pitfall), and he just completed his first marathon last month! So anyone has any questions regarding learning to run, feel free to ask!

Yesterday was my weekly yoga class, a different teacher this time, and I made sure she knew about my current health issues. The style of yoga I practice (Anusara) isn't all that big on hands-on adjustments, so as a rule I really don't worry much about being "mishandled". I guess that's why I was so shocked when that other teacher stepped over me for that rather aggressive adjustment last week (talk about invading someone's personal space, sheesh!). So anyway, the class was good, an open level class that proceeded just slowly enough for me to build the sufficient strength that I was able to do the goal pose for a change: eka pada galavasana! Was only able to do it on one side, but still, that's superhero stuff, for sure!

5.4 tough miles running today, after PT this afternoon. Looking forward to my day off tomorrow!

    Happy 1st of December, all!

Had a really good PT workout today boy are they giving it to me with strenghtening exercises.  Yoga class got cancelled tonight so I will do a yoga video instead.

Orangemat I am impressed that you can do that pose even if it is just on one side.  I am nowhere near that but maybe one day I just continue to work at it.

Changed the plan- ended up doing Turbo Jam Total Body Blast with the stability ball. 75 minutes of interval training - cardio, abs, lots of butt and legs, high heart rate the whole time. Killer workout number two this week. Thinking Leslie Sansone and I will take a walk in the morning and I'll try to get over to the track for a walk/jog after work tomorrow.

Went to PT today and found out I have lymphedema and that is why I am having so many problems with my shoulder. I go back on Monday and we will start to figure this out.
