I watched her reality show the first episode only because I love nature and Alaska is beautiful isn't it?

The nature parts of the show were nice but I just can't watch it again.  I have been in some parts of Alaska, but they were touristy and disappointing, the cruise stops.  One other time, I got to see the real Alaska and it was stunning.  I don't actually recommend the cruises to see Alaska.

I enjoyed my cruise to Alaska but the primary reason I went was to see the fjords since I don't expect to ever see those my ancestors sailed.

Who's going where for Thanksgiving?  I'm starting to prepare ahead of time. Got my big turkey roasting pan, bought a 17 pounder, some butternut squash and sweet potatoes.  There will be 8 of us.  I like to do things ahead of time so I don't get so stressed.

Deb...This year DD and I decided to stay home. She's been working long hours and is tired.

She wants a quiet Thanksgiving with no hassles so we declined all the invitations.

We might even have fish instead of turkey.

    I cook for Christmas.

We are headed north to Whidbey Island.  My first time not cooking.

I agree chabba, the fjords are lovely except the time to see them is so brief and so early - at least on my trips. The fjords of Norway though, ....wow!

    Sheila, salmon and asparagus?

Deb, did you learn anything new about the test that was worrying you?

Maybe some fillet of sole or whats that pink fish they sell it whole...

    I need my brain back.

I will ask Mr Google'smap to see where that island is.

I love looking in maps and see where everything is located.

This pineapple tea is not very pineapply. Its kind of tasteless. maybe My mug was too big for it.

I'm in charge of the kitchen and cooking of our Senior Center dinner on Thanksgiving.  It is our community dinner for every one, young and old, singles, couples or families need - or want - a place to go and to be a part of a larger family.  We expect 250 plus guests.  The turkeys will be cooked off site and the pies have been donated by a local grocery, but my two helpers and I will be doing all the rest of the cooking.  From set up to final clean up we have over 30 volunteers to do all the work.  One friend and I started these dinners 17 years ago.  It is humbling to hear the dinner refered to as "an Ocean Shores tradition" by so many people now.

chabba..what a nice way to celebrate Thanksgiving.

I did volunteer job in of the local Nursing Home for almost 3 years. It was so satisfying to be able to go in their rooms and talk to them. Some needed feeding.

They even offered me a job but everything was getting to commercialize like 10 patients to 1 Aid and I didn't like that.

Bobby - you are in Ocean Shores?  You must be very near Beanius, also on this site.  That is on our list of pending visits. :) How is the storm for you?

I am off to bed ladies - too cold to stay up.

Rain, If you are in this area on a Thursday at lunch time or on Sunday at breakfast time come to our Senior Center.  I cook those days every week. The Sunday breakfast is cook to order except for the scratch made biscuits and sausage gravy which are "help your self" when you place your order.

I am going to my DD#2 's house for Thanksgiving. My son-in-law's family will be there, also. The daughters are fixing dinner for the Moms, except I am going down Wed afternoon to help my DD prep the turkey. She is only 2-miles south of me, so I don't have far to go to help her. I only have to take one dish to pass, & that is a very easy, yummy pink salad. I'll share the recipe:

              Fluffy Pink Salad:

         1  can Strawberry Pie filling

         1 can crushed pineapple, drained

1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk

Mix together & chill overnight or at least for several hours. Right before serving, gently stir in 1- tub med. size Cool Whip.

It is so yummy, many have it for dessert after the meal along with their other dessert. Tongue out

I never cared for the jello one. Not a big jello fan.

My Aunt's Mom used to do one with pistachio (I hope I spelled that right-too lazy to get Mr. Webster out) pudding, cottage cheese Sealed, something else & Cool Whip. I always passed it by. Loved her ~ hated her salad. Innocent

Edited to spell-check: Pistachio only has one 'c'.

It was white but they smell so good. OOOOH

I thought it would go better with the season red and green.

Val...Why don't you use the spell checker?

Armenian culture also has some dessert which is traditionally done every Christmas.

I hated it and it was so much work all the soaking night before.

I didn't like the taste or the texture. They used to look at me like I was from Mars. LOL

Raincity - what about our NZ fjords? Accessible all year round and quite warm weather all year round compared to what you ladies have over there.  Long way to come though - guess Norway is a lot closer.  I had the same sort of thing happen when I joined up for a tailoring course at our local college.  Paid my course money, bought my material and pattern as advised, went along the first night very excited only to find, to my horror, that I knew more about sewing than she did - and I was totally self taught Yell

Meece - Spelling is my pet peeve too!  Glad to know there are others out there.  For many years here school kids have been encouraged to 'express' themselves without worrying about spelling correctly and now, despite spellcheck, examples of terrible spelling and grammar in newspapers, magazines, adverts etc are common.

Bobby - I have a dyslexic DD and at 18, despite many intervention schemes, her spelling is still BAD.  She has tried so hard over the years but she just can't do it.  At one stage even she couldn't read what she had written herself - that was the moment I knew something was wrong.  At least everyone can read what she writes now despite the odd spelling at times.  We have learnt to laugh about it and so it has not become an embarrassment to her.

raeinnz - Funny thing about my dyslexia, it almost completely goes away when I am on the computer.

I learned to read and write at three.  Mom dated and kept many of my early attempts.  I've often thought the dyslexia was responsible for the trouble I had learning to print my name.  It often came out Boddy or even Bodby.  And my given name had another problem.  I was in the first grade before I quit writing Bardarara!  Even today have trouble with my b's and d's and I really have to watch my p's and q's.

Bobby, Sheila, Val and Rae - I'm with you on spelling but am sometimes in a mad rush and forget to spellcheck. I am a lousy typist so I really should pay more attention.

I usually have my mother and two brothers over for Thanksgiving but this year, mom doesn't want to come. I don't want to go there as she and brother #2 smoke and the house reeks (plus I quit smoking 6 months ago). So DH and I are having a nice honey-baked (ham) turkey breast dinner.

Feeling guilty about not wanting to go there, though.

Oh girls, I hope nobody took my comments about the "in climate" writing instructor in any way as a slap to anyone with any kind of disability - you all may not know I have one of my own with disabilities. Because someone has heard her use vocabulary in completely incorrect ways before, I am confident that this is just your classic younger person who never really had vocabulary instruction...much like the lack of expectation to write with care that was previously mentioned but rather with free thought, blah blah.

Rae, I have never been to New Zealand but would so love to get there.  I hadn't been aware of your fjords, but my husband, who lived in Australia for several years, told me they are just as beautiful as any he has seen.  Someday Rae, I will get there as well :)

Hello everyone.  Been hesitating to write for a few days because all I've felt is down and I didn't feel I had the right to feel that way considering my good news of clean margins and lymph nodes!  I think everything has happened so fast (all in a matter of three weeks) and it's just hitting me now.  I feel like I was a different person going into the surgery and now they must have taken out something from me - I just cry all the time!  But I'm better today!  Back to the surgeon today for a follow-up and then an appt with medical oncologist on Dec. 6th.

I want to wish all of you a happy, healthy, and healing Thanksgiving.  I'm thankful for so much, with all of you being on the top of the list (spelling errors and all!!  Just kidding).  HUGS to all.

Have a great time on your trip girls!Smile

raincity,  I certainly did not take it as a slap.  I learned to laugh about my dyslexia half a lifetime ago.  I learned to cope with it at a very early age. The spelling was the only part that caused any real problems.  From the beginning I learned to read for context and if a sentence didn't make sense I could go back and figure out the misread word or words.

If anything, my minor disability helped me relate to others with disabilities and then to any others who are just different from the norm that I'm accustomed to.

raincitygirl--my son and DIL live in Seattle.  She is enjoying the snow right now.  But she can't handle cold for very long.  By next week she will be wanting to come to Texas for a visit.

Oakley sorry to hear your down.  I know the feeling at times.  I am not usually a very emotional personal, but since having bc I find my self crying  and getting very emotional over things.  I am starting rads next monday I don't know if that is part of it for me or just overal dealing with bc.  The doctor visit have been overwhelming to keep up with.  Usually when I have a down day the next day us much better.  I guess I am on my mini rollercoaster.  Take deep breaths. ((HUGS))

Oakley - Know the feel quite well. From the time I went for needle biopsy on Aug 17 to surgery on Aug 30, everything seemed like a whirl wind.  The reality of having BC did not hit me until two weeks later when my BS was putting in the balloon for Mammosite.  I can't remember crying so much and so hard as I did that day in his office.  My BS is an absolute angel and took the time to let me cry it out and reassure me everything would be okay.

I am almost finished with rads after several delays and I still find I have cry days.  They are fewer and fewer but still there.  I usually feel better the next and and get comfort and reassurance from all the wonderful ladies on this and other threads.

Healing physically and emotionally does take time and somewhere we all find the patience to deal with it and get through.

    Have A Wonderful Thanksgiving.

Oakley~you have the same dx as I.  I had IDC & DCIS, had to have a re-excision cuz my BS did not like how close the margins were.  I did not have chemo as both tumors were under 1 cm.  IDC was 6mm and DCIS was 7mm.  36 rads 5 boosts, now I am on Arimidex, I will be finished with that in 2012.

These wonderful girls on the discussion boards and in chat was and still is my therapy.  I have TOTAL trust in my team of doctors my BS and Hematologist Oncologist as they all belong in the same network they can access my results of tests in an instant.  I can ask them any question and they will take time to answer and explain anything and I never feel rushed.

Sherryc - my son and DIL recently moved here from SF. She is from TX and is already whining up a storm :)  Roads are quite terrible which is a darn good reason to stay home.

Oakley - I know what you mean, I conversed with my onc about it last night - he said many of us BC patients don't actually have a moment to deal with this for 3-4 or even 5 months, depending on our treatment.

Deb- Glad you made an appt to hopefully provide you some relief.

Chabba - glad to heard that :)  If I get to Ocean City, I will be swinging by for your cooking.

So our Thanksgiving basically is taking an about turn.  The roads are quite impossible with no promise of relief until Thurs a.m.  We are supposed to leave tonight or tomorrow for Whidbey Island.  After watching the people who sat on roads for 10-13 hours, I am not interested in heading out at all.  Going to walk to the store, plow through the frantic people who will be there, and get ourselves something to cook for the holiday.
