jrnld....Not every Oncologist believes in Tumor Marker Test.

Maybe its ordered with you regular blood work.

My oncologist still does it every 4 months.

jrnld28,  I agree with Seyla.  Get a copy of your blood work results so you can become familiar with what they are testing for.  You might be surprised that the tumor marker tests are there.  The onc may not tell you of what tests results were unless there is an abnomality.

Starting radiation on Monday morning, already got my tit-toos.  I looked at two pharmacies for Aquafor without luck - is it a prescription?

Oakley, we will be on very close schedule together.

raincitygirl-I don't use aquaphor (I use a prescription xlcair) but our local walmart carries it and I live in a rural town.  I would think CVS or Walgreens would have it.  We also started a December 2010 rads thread if you want to join us.  I am going for #11 today.  Good luck on starting.  How many tx do you have to do?

Hi Sherry - I think it is 28 rads plus 5 boosts  - I finish on Feb 9 and get two days off for Christmas and NY's each.

I will wait to see what they say I should use.  In the meantime, I will spend lots of time with my right boob and basic moisturizer.

I will visit Dec rads thread too!  I want to know how it is going for all who are just getting going.

raincitygirl - I had 25 rads + 5 boosts.  I used Aquaphor and it worked great.  I am suggested it to others and they liked it too.  It is greasy but worth it.  Used it 3 times a day and even more on the weekends.  I wore a bra that covered just about the whole area during the day and as soon as I got home - took the bra off and put on an oversized tee shirt the rest of the night.  Even wore it to bed - saved on the sheets.

Join us on the Dec thread - we would love to have you.

I stay on the Nov & Dec rads thread even though I am done.  I want to help others like you get through rads with as few problems as possible.

raincitygirl and sherryc - good luck with the rads I hope everything goes well an time goes by quickly... most of all no bad skin irritations.  :)

My surgery is offically scheduled for Monday at noon.  They changed hospitals on me today when I went for my markings and had my pre-admit testing done and pre-registered at the original hospital then they called me when I got back into my home town and told me that it had been changed to the hospital that my plastic surgeons office is in.  It's o.k. but all the confusion made for a long day.  Also, instead of being at the hospital at 5 and surgery at 7 am I now have to be there at 10 and surgery at noonish.  I will be starving!!! Not really happy about that.  If I was a late sleeper that didn't eat b'fas it would be o.k. but I'm NOT!!! Guess I'll survive.  LOL

I tend to get migraines when I fast for a long time.  They usually have to get my iv started and put in pain meds asap.

I will be praying for your tummy and head to handle the wait.

Thanks raincitygirl and meece... I too get mirgaines when I have to go a long time without eating or drinking.  I had a migraine today and couldn't take Excedrin Migraine because of the aspirin in and I can't take any anti-inflammatories either until 2 days post op, this really stinks.  What can I take for my head.  Thank God my mom gave me 1/2 a Lortab, which usually makes me nauseous and doesn't even help my migraines, but I had to take something and tylenol wouldn't help.

Gotta keep away from the aspirin to minimize bruising as well as having blood clotting issues.  Hope they can keep you from getting a headache that can be so miserable.

jo - I am having 30 treatments including 7 "boosts."  I guess this is pretty normal?  I am trying to be finished before a scheduled trip to the sunny beach by Feb 20th - it will be cutting it close (so the doctor says).  I have to have allowances for technical issues that might come up, or snow days when I might not be able to get there (in NJ), so if everything went as scheduled I would be done on a Wednesday and then leave on that Sunday.  Did you find you had side effects that made you miserable 3 or 4 days after you were finished?

raincity - aquafor should be availabe in almost any drugstore.  Found mine in CVS.  I'm sure it is on line as well.  I would be more than happy to send you one if you can't find it - PM me if you still can't find it.

I had a horrific headache (bordering on migraine) the morning of my surgery - and I had to go to three different places for each procedure - dye injection, wire placement, lumpectomy.  It was so awful.  When I got to the surgery center I was so upset and the anesthesiologist said "in a few minutes you won't feel a thing and I promise you, you will not wake up with a headache."  She was sooooo right!  HUGS for you Mimi.

After the boosts, if you have burned or blistered it can make you miserable. After I finifhed rads, I walked around with my hand on my hip for about a week.  I needed to keep my arm from resting on the sore area.

oakley I don't want to scare you and remember this was my experience.

I had blisters and really burned it took a while to get better.

And like Meece said I was holding my breast up whenever I was home alone.

I didn't want you scare you.

    Hugs

mimi good luck with your surgery and I am like you I get headaches when I go a long time without eating.  I had a late schedule when they did my biopsy and they were having trouble getting the wire in and it took a really long time and I started to pass out.  They had to lay me on a table and tiltl it with my feet up.  I told the tech I was feeling better and she said I did not look better.  I was so embarrassed but I knew something would happen.

    Meece have safe travels.

Renee - You are in my prayers. Hadley - just my story about rads: I used emu oil 3-4 times a day and did not burn at all. My rad onc was surprised but he is now recommending it to all his patients. My only issue after was still being tired but I just planned for a couple 15 minute cat naps per day and was fine. I also tried to get 9-10 hours/night.

After reading the discussions about surgery scheduling I finally realize why my admitance time was scheduled so early. When the nurse handed me the gown I commented on having to be there at the ungodly hour of 6:30.  She just said the Dr. always scheduled BC surgery at that time.  He was right there by the time I had changed.  After he checked me over he stayed with me until the guy from neuclear medicine arrived with the tracer and they did the injection.  He explained exactly what I could expect of the day, even to the time I would go to surgery--within 5 minutes.  Found out later I was the fourth surgery.  Good timing!  And he was at my bedside whith my husband when I came to.  Just another example of why his patients love him.

Sheila - So far so good today with the Femara.  Was getting the queasy stomach about this time yesterday - none yet although it is before lunch.  Will see how it goes the rest of the day.  If okay will continue at night.  I like the night time dose - slept 10 hours last night.  haven't done that in a long, long time.

If I do get the tummy, will wait until tomorrow morning and try that for a couple of days.  Will keep you posted.

Sheila, You beat me here! I had some calls to make.

My DD is fine, B9 results!!!!!!!!

She called me, I answered the phone & she said, "I'm good!" That was all I needed to hear, I almost lost it. She had to wait 50 mins to see the dr., the nurse "slipped" her the MRI results & told her, "But, you didn't hear from me!" The surgeon told her she is the same as before, no changes & wasn't she glad she had the MRI instead of going straight to a biopsy.

I am so happy & relieved, I am beside myself with happiness. LaughingI want to thank all of you for your prayers & hand-holding. Yes, Renee, Miracles do happen!!! Innocent

Innocent Like I have told you all before, you are my Angels here on Earth. Innocent

I was sorting pills into pillboxes to stay busy this morning, not the thing to do while waiting for test results. I now have to check to make sure I did it correctly. Embarassed

I'll be back later, more packing to do.

Be safe on your trip, Meecie.

Special hugs to Sheila & Renee.

    Love & hugs to all!

    Val
