Yasmin Kutscher - diagnosed at age 31 with extensive DCIS and multi tumor IDC. No family history and tested negative for BRCA gene. Found small lump during Self Breast Exam. Had Gyno annual exam 6 months prior and nothing was felt. Mammogram and MRI confirmed extensive DCIS but the IDC was not found until after mastectomy. I probably would not have lived to reach 50 years old if it would not have been for self breast exam and my physician's recommendation for a Mammogram. Please do not change the breast cancer screening guidelines! I am #1.

Sheri Nordstrom - diagnosed at 37 with a lump found during self breast exam while pregnant. Mammograms and self breast exams are necessary to save lives. Please do not change the guidelines.

Bi-lateral mastectomies at 43 due to dcis & idc in both breasts!

    a mammogram saved my life!

I have 2 daughters who now have family history! start screening earlier! new technology should make it easier to read breast images at younger ages!

Diagnosed during routine mammogram.  The cancer was on my chest wall and could not be felt during self or physician exam.

I posted earlier but did anyone catch the news report this morning?  If it is not enough...now there are reports that women should not be getting pap smears regularly.  OMGosh!!  I know they are trying to convince us that mammo's have a risk due to the radiation...BUT what is there to a pap smear exam???   Too many SWABS!!!!!    SAD<SAD<SAD!!!!!

Deborah Macklin: I was diagnosed stage IIIA breast cancer when I was 44.  Only family history was my maternal grandmother at the time of my diagnosis.  I found my mass myself.  I Had 6.5 cm mass in october of 2007.  Back in January of that year, no mass was felt during exam. So that proves that not all breast cancers are slow growing.

Also, my 40 year old sister was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2008.

I was diagnosed stage IIIA this past April and I am 35.  I found the lump myself.  I had an annual OBGYN/ Breast Exam just 9 months prior in June 2008 and my lump was not felt!  I had a radical mastectomy in May 2009. I have abslotely no family history of any type of cancer, I am #1.

i was diagnosed with BC 2006 age 47 mammogram right breast-lumpectomy-radiation-tamoxifen & recurrence 2008 left breast found by mammogram & mri no family history BC now bilateral mastectomy many health issues. I had insurance & could not get "approval" for MRI  so paid in full out of pocket expense for MRI & only when biopsy malignant did I get "approval" from ins co & reimbursed.

Whatever this task force recommends and/or your dr YOU still must be your own advocate. Early detection is a must & still no guarantee.

I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at age 39. Thankfully I caught it myself . . . for the government to recommend we not do self breast exams is crazy. There is no one better at knowing our own bodies than us.

Dx age 48. Found my lump...wasn't due for mammogram. How can they say self-exam has no benefit...I had IDC TNBC. Thank God I know my breasts! Kathy

Gretchen Moore - DX age 48 via routine mamogram. IDC cancer in two places in same breast.  No detectable lumps as both cancers were too far back in breast near chest wall.  If I had not been screened until age 50, well I wouldn't have been alive more than likely.

Started yearly mammos at 35 and at 46 found a lump through self-exam.  Mammo never picked it up even when we knew I had cancer.  Don't do self-exams - are you kidding?!  Doc said it had probably been there 5-10 years.  It was already in one lymph node.  If I hadn't preformed self-exams I'd probably be dead.  Instead I'm 6 years cancer free.

I am outraged that the guidelines are for women 50 and older.  I cannot tell you how many young people between 40 and 50 years old  that I have spoken to that were diagnosed as a result of mammography.  Does that mean those women who were saved by mammograms are now expendable?

I cant believe this.  The only tool we have , besides SBE ,to help save lives and this is what 'they" decide!  This is very upsetting and I am mad!

DX at age 44, 1 week before my 45th b-day.  If I had to wait, This would have killed me....

Dx with multi-focal IDC at age 48, two months after a "clean" mammogram and four months after GYN yearly breast exam.  No family history. Found three palpable lumps via BSE - confirmed via US, MRI and Digital Mammography.  This is for my daughters, ages 24 and 22, who have been told to get their baseline mammograms starting at age 38.  Tammy

As a woman who found her lump (very tiny lump that had spread) at the age of 30 through self breast exam and mammography, I am appalled that we are told to wait even longer for screening.  I think women should be eligible at a younger age than 40.

For my Dear Departed mother who was diagnosed at age 42- a single mother of 5 who supported us, educated us and returned to work almost immediately after a RADICAL MASTECTOMY IN 1968 because she was our sole support..She took Chemo later "to make it better for those in the future". Which  is what we are supposed to be doing!

Sama Blackwell - diagnosed at age 46 thanks to a routine mammogram.  No family history, no lump.   I would have waited four additional years if these guidelines had been in place.

I would have signed this petition EARLY this week, as soon as I heard what the "new' guidelines were!  As a Sister, diagnosed six years ago (after a Mammogram), the battle to survive is sufficiently difficult!  I am entirely opposed to the new Mammography Guidelines!!!  We are NOT expendable!  Is THIS NOT A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF RATIONED HEALTH CARE?!

While my bc was not diagnosed until I was 62 I have friends whose bc was diagnosed before they were 40. I understand mammos are also not recommended for women who are 74 or older. My dear Mother was diagnosed with bc by mammo when she was 74. She enjoyed another 10 years of life and did not die of bc.
