Nancy, I've removed wallpaper in the past. Using a hand steamer, the process was pretty straightforward but a tad tedious (the underlying drywall paper could tear). Then came all the prep: sanding and washing the walls, patching holes and cracks, texturing, applying primer, and then finally painting.

Just speaking for myself, I'd feel uncomfortable having the contractor foot the entire wallpaper removal/prep/paint work. How about splitting the cost of labor with him? Is that something that could work for you?

Skilled, honest, and reliable contractors are hard to find. Yours sounds like one of the good guys.

Thanks Hershey. I have been leaning in that direction from the very beginning but I do know some people that would try to squeeze as much work out of them for nothing which I don't think I could live with myself and do that. I actually don't have that much wallpaper that is visible. The bathroom is small according to many standards these days and my bathtub area has only a little wallpaper above the tile. I had been considering doing it myself but I have heard horror stories of dry wall coming off etc. My sister seems to think it is easy. I just ordered a large mirror which will cover a good part of the main wall.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. How was your pico? I am not much of a Mexican food person but I can appreciate all the work you put in on it. I hope you had a nice long holiday weekend.

    Love,

    Nancy

Nancy, I agree that splitting the labor cost sounds reasonable. You are not alone with contractor problems, but you seem to have it worse than I ever had! Yes, our deck is still not finished. No one showed up again today and I am beyond frustrated. We had a neighborhood couple stop by yesterday because they loved what we are doing and might want to do it too. We told them the actual work is fabulous but it has taken them too long to complete it. I am tempted to let the contractor know neighbors are inquiring but they are probably losing work because of their procrastination. How can I recommend that?

Anyways, I think there is a problem with service in all industries right now. Grocery stores don't seem to care a bit about good service. Restaurant waiters get regular pay now but still want the tip even for bad service. I could go on and on, but you all know this. I called for a neurologist appointment which my onc referred last Friday. When I called, they told me it takes a week after the referral comes in before it gets entered into my records and then I have to call to make the appointment—they won't let me know when they have received it so I have to call them. I did just receive a call to schedule my next PET scan so perhaps it is not all departments. Sorry to rant—I am through now!

I am still feeling poorly from the UTI although the symptoms have abated. They just hit me hard. Some days you I want to crawl back into bed!

    Blessings, Chris

Thank you ladies. It seems like the consensus is splitting the labor costs. Once my mirror comes in hopefully on Thursday I am to call the contractor and set up a time for them to come back. I have no idea what the labor charge would be and I might not know until they get into the wallpaper removal to see if any unexpected issues arise. Thank you for your input.

Chris, I know at my eye apt a few days ago I commented on all the new people working in the office. In the past these ladies had worked at this place for years and I didn't see any of them. He said he has had a really hard time finding help. One of the ladies doing my tests was obviously in training. He said people don't want to work. I laughed and said since I have been in retirement for quite a few years I can understand. He said yeah but I am talking out 40 yr olds. I think we are still living out the repercussions of Covid.

I do hope you are feeling better very soon. You have had a time with these UTI's. Hopefully all of this "stuff" will be in the rear view mirror so you can totally enjoy your Alaskan cruise.

Wheatfields, praying that your hand will completely heal and the incision will close with no more issues.

Teka, praying you are doing okay now.

With Covid surging again have any of you received a booster shot this year. I have a good email friend from NY and her daughter who is a nurse has contracted it and after ten days of being very sick her doctor put her on antibiotics. I have never heard of that. I heard on the news that Jill Biden has Covid too. I see my pcp in Nov and will ask his opinion.

    Have a good night everyone.

    Love

Chris, I am nodding my head in agreement about the customer no-service that's so prevalent nowadays. I find the prompts for tips especially annoying. I used the self checkout recently and was prompted to add a tip. Just who am I tipping? The credit card machine?!?

Nancy, my husband and I will be getting the new COVID vaccine when it becomes available. My pharmacist expects it to arrive in late September or early October. Our local hospital is reporting an increase in COVID hospitalizations, and a parent on Nextdoor posted last week that COVID cases are on the rise at the high school. Like you, I've not heard of anyone being given antibiotics for COVID. Perhaps your friend's daughter developed a secondary bacterial infection that needed to be treated with antibiotics?

Speaking of vaccinations, has anyone received the new RSV vaccine?

Nancy, I agree with the others who suggested splitting the cost. It sounds it would be fair.

Chris, I get the same thing with some of my appointments at Scripps. Sometimes they call me, sometimes they don’t. There are also appointments for which I can be waitlisted for an earlier time, but with others I have to keep calling to see if they have any cancelations.

I’m sorry you’re still feeling poorly from your UTI. Go ahead and crawl back into bed!

I see my MO today and get my Zometa infusion. It’s not until this afternoon, so I’ll have to occupy myself until then.

It feels like a Monday today, but then, so did yesterday.

    Love to all,

    Carol

    Hi Ladies.

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing.

Hershey, I am leary of another Covid shot since I didn't do well with my last one, but I was also sick and didn't know it, so it was probably just that. I forgot to ask about the RSV shot. Next time.

Wonder of wonders, the deck help has showed up this morning—first time all week! I am so mad, probably why I have cancer because I hold everything in…….. I need to just let it go.

My BIL has started taking a supplement that has completely eliminated the major problems he has had with his gut. I am so tempted to try them. Anyone else heard of Plexus or taking something that helps? My onc just doubled my Prilosec but I am a little apprehensive of that. I need to do something as the stomach pain is increasing and all the scans are clear.

I am finally getting over this UTI and feel pretty good for the first time since it started. I may even do laundry today.

Praying everyone has a good day.

    Chris,

I am sending a link. This is from Aliveandwell online.

    https://shop.aliveandwell.health/collections/researched-nutritionals

I take CoreBiotic which is a probiotic my doctor had me on for years. I still take it. I know this might be overkill but I also take Garden of Life Primal Defense Ultra which is also probiotic. You can buy this at Whole Foods or find a place that may have a better price. I get my from Iherb.com Before I started taking probiotics my stomach was always in a mess. I have taken them for 19 yrs approximately and what a huge difference it has made for my IBS.

So glad you are feeling better and the crew is actually working today. We suffer from the same problem. I don't let out my anger when I should and then seethe inside which is not good.

I have not even considered the RSV vaccine. Had anyone ever even heard of this RSV before until we started seeing commercial on getting the vaccine? Chris, I am also a bit leery of getting another booster from some of the things I have heard from people I know. I am going to ask my doctor first when I see him in Nov.

I have a meeting coming up so I need to go for now.

    Love,

    Nancy

Nancy, thank you for the link. I didn't find what I wanted but it encouraged me to do more research which I did. It appears the supplement I am considering has been linked to a medical problem and it is not FDA approved. I probably should ask my oncologist first before taking it. Thank you for encouraging me to do this.

Chris, here is the link to a Healthline article entitled "11 Probiotic Foods That Are Super Healthy."

I was a bit surprised to see cottage cheese listed!

Nancy, I think they've migrated! Haven't seen any blues in about a month. We miss those silly birds. One nice thing about the changing seasons is the migratory birds we get in the winter. My favorite is when a flock of dark eyed Juncos land on the lawn. They like to eat the scattered seed discarded by woodpeckers from our feeder!

I think there's a chance my company discards our current insurance plan. I know everyone is frustrated. However, they've demonstrated time and time again that they don't care about us as employees, so I'm not holding my breath. I'm biding my time while watching job openings. It's complicated though because I'm in a specific career and I need a flex schedule. That's the only reason I haven't left yet!

GB, I am still seeing my regular birds at my feeders including my hummingbirds but I haven't seen any robins lately. They claim we have a flock of winter robins which may stay around but that is not the usual. I would love to see a bluebird in my yard. The fact your company might change their insurer sounds promising. I hope you can either find some other job or that God will allow you to have peace about staying where you are.

Chris, is your deck near completion yet? I hope it doesn't continue like my window saga! Actually I have an installer for my window coming on Wed and I am really hoping this will close the chapter on that. It is always good to research before taking another product so I am glad you found some things online that shed new light on this supplement you were interested in. I hope you can find something that will help you.

We have had some gorgeous days the last two days. I could take this type of weather all year long but I think I would have to go to the West coast to experience that.

Have a great week dear sisters.

    Love,
    Nancy

Nancy, my deck is near completion—yay! Just a few more finishing items including tiling the roof. I hope to get pictures soon. Next week will be cooler here with some rain. I am wondering whether Pikes Peak will receive snow. There are a few places in the state that have already received some snow. Ugh! But it shouldn't be that cold here…yet!

We are beginning to gather things for our trip in less than three weeks. I am doing better on my oxygen and am hopeful I can sleep at night at sea level without supplemental oxygen. Now if my oral meds would just work better I can relax a little. The scans showed some activity last time but since I was off for so long we are hoping the meds will kick in and work longer.

GB, I worry about you and your work. Your frustration is justified!

Praying everyone has a good week. Chris

I hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful weekend.

I had an appointment on Friday for my Prolia injection. My doctor has me go to the hospital infusion center. There's a small older parking garage for patients, visitors, and staff. Signs are posted across the street, "Park at your own risk." My first thought pulling in was, "wow, it's really dark in here." Three teenagers with backpacks were walking through the cars and pulling on door handles. One teen wore a wraparound mask so only his/her eyes were visible. There was no security presence in the garage. I turned my car around, left the garage, and found a parking spot with more visibility and foot traffic. I did file a report with the hospital although it was too late to prevent any thefts on Friday. I really wish that I could receive the injection at another, safer location.

Hershey, that is really scary. I have a strong dislike for parking garages but not for the reasons you saw in action today. I am glad you were able to find a parking spot elsewhere. I hope you don't have to go to this place very often. I have never seen sign like that before. Wow. I am glad you got safely home.

Carol, I read you latest blog post. This is a case where I don't want to "like" it because I don't like the fact that you have been going through so much "stuff". Your sense of humor was still apparent but the suffering you have gone through without definitive answers was difficult to read. I do get your question of who is the quarterback because that is what happens when you see many specialists. Sometimes you have to be your own quarterback and pray to God for wisdom to help you maneuver through the maze without taking any wrong turns. I continue to pray for you that God will give you the strength to do that "one more thing" in hopes that it will lead to solutions!!!!

    Nancy

Nancy, thank you. I'll take that as a "Like." 😍

Thank you for your prayers. They are always appreciated!

How are YOU this morning? This crazy weather all over the country is so weird and scary.

Hershey, I am thankful you are safe. I would think the hospital would have more security at night.

Carol, I answered you on the other board, but know you are in my daily prayers. Thank you for your blog.

Nancy, how is your world today? Did you get your counter finalized yet? Colorado is beginning to receive the hints of winter all around so I am trying to prepare. My trip is in two weeks which will signal the the end of summer for me but until then I will relish the warmth. I am beginning to get a little nervous about the cruise but I know I am taking lots of support with me as my DH and DS will both be with me, as will a couple of new but dear friends. Who knew years ago that my adventurous spirit would now include being courageous with my physical needs. But I am tired of just sitting at home. Bring on the world!

I opened this thread this morning and for some reason it started with posts from several months ago. I didn’t even notice the date at first, but it was a long post from Nancy. Buried in the post was a definition of “worry” which was “Accepting responsibility that God never intended us to have.” WOW! I have no doubt that God wanted me to see that this morning.

The weather is pleasant here in San Diego. Cool enough for the comforter at night. Intolight, I’m sorry if winter is coming early for you. The snow sounds beautiful – at least to observe from afar!

I have a question for you all about my blog. I post updates on Facebook and Instagram as well as sending out emails. I’ve been using the same background for the FB and IG posts, but I’m thinking about adding a line below the title. If I post a photo of my most recent post along with one with the added sub-title, would you give me your opinion?

I create the “slide” on PowerPoint and then save it to a jpeg.

    Love to all,

    Carol

Thank you, intolight. I'll add the two slides to my next post.

  • sunshine99
    sunshine99 Member Posts: 2,723

The first one is the slide I posted on FB and IG. The second is the slide I made as template with the sub-title. It might help as the slide with just the title does not give any clue as to my topic.

Carol, I am glad you were lifted by the definition of worry. I like the second slide for the reasons you state.

Chris, is your deck done now? I am praying that you will fearlessly begin your cruise and have a fantastic time. You asked how things are. To be honest I have been struggling a bit. I had a windows tech here yesterday which didn't help with my emotions. His apt was the 4th to deal with such a simple thing as replacing my locks with the new design like all my other windows. He didn't even know what my issue was and couldn't replace as he had no new locks. He did fix another issue. At this point I just throw my hands up.

I did have some good news buried in my Aug. 31 post which you all may have missed. I don't have time to repeat as I am getting ready for a doctor's apt.

It is a gorgeous day here.

Have a good day dear sisters.

    Love,

    Nancy

Carol, I do like the addition of the subtitle even though the phrase does exist in other places in your blog. It always helps to be clear and explains the lens of your blog.

Nancy, I am happy for the news of your eyes. I know you have been concerned about losing your eyesight for some time. God truly answers our prayers. I celebrate with you!

The workers are here today (first time all week.) They are painting and brought the roofing tiles. There is hope!

  • hersheykiss
    hersheykiss Member Posts: 703

Carol, I too prefer the second slide with subtext.

Nancy, I'm so sorry the window tech was unprepared for his visit. Fall is right around the corner. It's not the time for a company to be monkeying around with latches that may or may not do the job.

Chris, your cruise to Alaska sounds wonderful. I did not realize that your son is going too. You and your husband must be getting especially excited.

Wheatfields, how are you doing? How is your nurse friend feeling?
