I had a biopsy/draining of that pesky hard area, good news, so far no infection found and no cancer. Bad news, it still hurts like h*ll! It is hard, red and swollen. They put me out to drain it, twilight, and I have been super sleepy since Wednesday when they did it. Had my tumor markers done also, now they are 27.9, the lowest they have been. They were actually 61 before I started treatment and my doc thinks they are a good indicator for me, and they keep going lower with each test! I am still sleepy and trying to do my geology homework, any geology majors here?

Tifj - awesome news your mamo is ok.
OBXK - Somebody was sure looking after your friend. Not all about cancer is it everyday things can be just as bad. I'm glad your friend was ok.
MichelleS - You are probably all stressed out about family stuff and are up tight which makes pain so much worse. Every little twinge has us thinking the worst. Wishing you a good night sleep are playing with the Wii and hoping tomorrow is so much better for you.
Bak94 - Great news and wonderful your tumour markers are going down. I never think to ask my oncologist what mine are but will when I see her.
BernieEllen - did you make that wonderful cake. I make and decorate cakes. They are very therapeutic especially during this time.
Definitely group hug time for all those stressed, worried and hurting.
Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs. xxoox Annie

Tif - Congrats on the clean mammo
Bak - So happy your biopsy came back clear and your markers are down but sorry to hear it hurts like h*ll. I think when your up to it you and your hubby need a vacation. You deserve it!
Obnx - How terrifying! Very happy to hear your friend is ok
Bernie - Hubby is a baker and makes some amazing cakes, problem is he brings them home and I eat them.
Ladies, today marks my 1 year cancerversary. I can honestly say, I didn't think I'd be here today. I want to thank all of you for helping me thru this past year. Don't think I could have made it without you. Told hubby it was my cancerversary, he said we wouldn't celebrate that. I corrected him and told him I sure as heck am celebrating being alive!

OBK - we drove into Virginia Beach right after that jet crash, and drove past the apartment complex which we could see from the highway. It's been on all the local channels. It is nothing short of a miracle that no one was instantly killed. As of late last night, there were 3 residents unaccounted for, but not known to be missing (people could be away for the holiday). I haven't heard a news story this morning to hear of an update. It's a beautiful but windy day here today. Hopefully, they can search the debris to make sure no one is trapped.
Tif - he told me to take aspirin, too. But it didn't work for him as he still had a recurrence. He is a stubborn man! I think the aspirin thing is from the Nurses Study and all that data was self-reported. There are metformin clinical trials being conducted in hundreds of locations. If there was no significant evidence, I don't think the NIH would be sponsoring those trials.0 -
Heather, celebrating with you in spirit! Party it up, girl. My 3 year cancerversary is around the corner and so grateful that I am here to enjoy it.
Just noticed that the calling all TNS thread has passed 450 pages! Thanks again Titan for starting such a great thread! A real lifeline for us to hang onto.

Maggie,
I find the courage and strength comment funny only because I've never really believed it. I suppose to me we weren't given much of a choice. We're diagnosed with BC and told it's either do this (chemo) or die. I never actually felt courageous or strong during treatment. I had never been so terrified and depressed in my life. THEN, yesterday a co-worker and I were discussing my move back to PA and I mentioned how scared I am about finding a job, getting insurance etc..... He looked at me and said, You really came out of this whole thing so much stronger, you can see it clearly, its really amazing to see. You'll do just fine. I was really surprised at the comment. I suppose the F'ing BC really does make us stronger.

Congrats to all that have received good news!
Heather, great news on being one year out!
Always such a great feeling to hear good news. When one of us achieves some peace of mind, we all feel it, don't we?
Off to do a million errands, just wanted to hop in (no pun intended!) and wish that everyone has a blessed Easter or a happy Passover.

Heather- Congrats!! Time really does fly!!
Bak- I'm so happy to hear some good news for you!! I hope the pain subsides soon.
Michelle- Yes, he is a stubborn man. We get along fine and this Metformin thing is the first time we don't agree. He did tell me he is retiring in 33 months.
Thanks for all the well wishes on my mammo. It is an every six months pain in the butt, well, boob anyway!

Hi, I haven't posted in awhile. Guess that happens post chemo/radiation as you start to get your life back. I noticed that there are some newly diagnosed to this thread and I wanted to share a post that was posted back when I was just starting chemo and was so terrified of what lay ahead. I think if you go to the search tool and type in 29-is Month Post-Diagnosis. You will get through this!
It was so reassuring at the time and I still go back and read it now and then. I'm almost a year out from diagnosis and have my mammo in May. Already I can feel the anxiety creeping in about what that information will bring. Anybody else at that point? Trying to stay positive about the good things like my hair is growing back curly and it looks pretty cute. Lots of gray but hell, I'm 65 and I think I'll keep it that way. Makes me feel like a warrior.

Congrats Heather and to everyone with such good news....insipiring. My cancerversary will be May 26th if we go by date of diagnosis, June 8th if we go by date of surgery. May 25th if we go by date of biopsy...gosh...what date do we go by?
Love to all. have a wonderful weekend.
Susan

General consensus seems to be date of diagnosis, though there is no right or wrong.

I was actually planning on going with date of surgery but chose diagnosis cause it's sooner.

Heather - so glad you are celebrating your 1st of many years!!!! How wonderful for you to have your co-worker, remind you of just how strong you are.
LuvRVing- Wow, you really ran into some excitement. Are you going to visit the Outer Banks? AKA - OBX.
Annie - you make cakes! We must remember to make one while you're here
Bak - you must feel like the weight of the world is off your shoulders. Great News!!! I hope the site settles down soon.
I am going to use my last date of treatment as my date. Last time, I used my surgery.
I'm roasting a chicken, on this cool evening. It smells so good, I can hardly stand it.
Have a great evening.0 -
my oncologist told me that it is the date of your surgery if you had surgery 1st (before chemo). Mine is Jan 6, 2009. Wow. I like the way that looks in writing!

Heather I say we are strong because I actually know 3 women who were diagnosed who would not continue treatment because it was just "too hard" on them. I know the experience of treatment is different for everyone and it certainly was not a cake walk for any of us but I cannot imaging giving up like that. I have so much to live for as we all do!! I find myself singing in my head the Kelly Clarkson song--What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and the Beyonce song I'm a survivor. They bring a smile to my face like they did not before I got BC that is for sure. So here's to all us STRONG women who chose to fight fight fight!!

OBXK - no, we are just visiting VA Beach this time. We played golf today and I'm hoping for a beach day tomorrow. The winds have died down and it's supposed to be in the low 70's.
I am going to use the date of my PET scan which was about two weeks after my last chemo to make note of my cancerversary. Believe me, none of the other dates seem worthy enough. But the day I got the "all clear" - now that to me is worth celebrating! Today is the one year anniversary of my BMX, and the best thing that happened today is I was able to make it through 11 holes of golf before I started to poop out. I hadn't played in almost two years, so that was a pretty good effort.0 -
Heather..yay for you on the one year OUT!...Love it...
Question for you ladies that had a masectomy..my friend just had one on Tuesday...she said that there was alot of skin left...is this skin used for the recon? All that skin is freaking her out....
I use the date of my surgery because that was when the gross, disgusting, filthy f'** tumor was removed from my breast....
I'm still so curious as heck about cracking the genetic code on tn..I so want to know what causes the tn tumors...
Michelle..you are a golfer ..wow...I haven't golfed for 2 years either...I used to love it...it was so much fun...thinking of trying it again but I need new clubs..or at least a new driver...

Titan - I had a left mastectomy and I have no skin left at all its just flat with the line of where the cut was and a couple of sutures were. Maybe your friend or the surgeon intends for there to be a reconstruction later or when she is ready. Reconstruction was not an option for me.
OBXK - a chocolate port cake with a gooey centre. We could eat it right after the chicken tonight lol.
Mags20487 - We need all the strong people on here because it's them that encourages and supports all the people on here like me that doubts their ability to go on. These incredibly strong ladies never give up as I have found on this board. Without their love, support and kindness I wouldn't be able to do this but I want to live too. Annie

Titan - my skin is taut. I think they leave extra skin for recon.

A man was blissfully driving along the highway, when he saw the Easter Bunny hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the Bunny, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of his car and was hit. The basket of eggs went flying all over the place.
The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the Bunny carrying the basket. Much to his dismay, the colorful Bunny was dead. The driver felt guilty and began to cry.
A blonde driving down the same highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong.
"I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny and killed it. There may not be an Easter because of me. What should I do?"
The blonde told the man not to worry. She knew exactly what to do. She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead Bunny, and sprayed the entire contents of the can onto the little furry animal.
Miraculously the Easter Bunny came to back life, jumped up, picked up the spilled eggs and candy, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped on down the road. 50 yards away the Easter Bunny stopped, turned around, waved and hopped on down the road another 50 yards, turned, waved, hopped another 50 yards and waved again!
The man was astonished. He said to the woman, "What in heaven's name is in your spray can? What was it that you sprayed on the Easter Bunny?" The blonde turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent wave."
