Happy Easter, everyone!
Titan - well, I play at golf. My DH is an avid golfer and I decided a long time ago that it would be a lonely retirement if I didn't learn to play. I'm not very good and he is extremely patient with me when we play. So I do enjoy getting out there with him, but I don't keep score...lol. We go to a lot of places where there is both beach and golf - Florida, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Virginia Beach. I love the ocean, he loves golf, and we'll both spend time doing either things. So it works out great.
Swinging the club seems to have loosened up some of the arm and chest tightness, so that is a good thing. I need to think of it as therapy!!!0 -
Good morning! I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

Titan: I had BMX and tissue expanders that were filled with 150cc on the OR table. No extra skin that i remember. Hope your friend does OK. Encourage her to call her BS tomorrow so she isn't worrying.
Good one Bernie!
Happy Sunday to all.......beautiful weekend here in the midwest.

Navy..they didn't put in expanders after the mx...her BS is making her wait for any type of recon at all until the area is fully healed...I bet the skin is left for the recon.

Titin, I had a skin sparing in June of 2010.... I didn't want to do recon right away I didn't know if I was going to need radiation so I had the TE's put in 4 months after my last chemo in Feb of 2011. It really gave my body time to heal and the TE surgery was a breeze, than in December of 2011 I had my exchange surgery. I am so glad I did it that way. I think my results came out really nice each time and I had barely any pain and no issues. I hope your friend is doing well. Please let her know she is in my prayers. She has you so I know she is going to be great0
-
tracie..thanks for the info! She is so afraid that the worse is yet to come as far as reconstruction..I will pass your story on to her...she is so afraid of the unknown..just like all of us were/are...
And I will tell her that you are praying for her. I've told her about this site but I think that maybe she is not ready to come on here...it took me awhile to join...it was like admitting that this breast cancer thing was real...if you know what I mean.

Hey Titan,
We have season tickets for the Huskers but rarely get to an away game unless it is close. But that would be a great game to go to! Maybe some day! Go Big Red!
Hope everyone had a great day with lots of chocolate bunnies, Peeps, and family/friends.

OMG! My husband makes me wear breathe right strips to bed. I'm terrible now, absolutely horrible, I wake myself up all the time snoring. It started towards the end of chemo and I don't think it's gotten any better. Hubby calls me a motor boat. Its embarrassing and I keep forgetting to ask my onc about it.

mccrimmon, as I have learned from my sleep doctor that snoring is not such a small problem. Snoring means one probably has a sleep disorder and not getting enough sleep at night. I myself use the CPAP machine as I have moderate sleep apnea, meaning my brain wakes up every so often and I don't reach the REM sleep which is what is needed to restore health to your systems. They are now linking cardiovascular disease to lack of sleep. My dad had a massive heart attack at age 70, without ever being diagnosed with heart disease. But he had major sleep problems throughout his life. We could hear him stop breathing sometimes and then wake up momentarily and then snore heavily again. I am now convinced that he died due to sleep apnea. I just recently saw my sleep doctor for a check up. He is now sending me for another sleep study called MSLT, for which I have to spend a night at the sleep center and be there until 4 p.m. the next day in order for them to evaluate. I am writing all this here, so as to make you ladies aware of this problem, maybe this is what caused our cancers in the first place, as our cells didn't get a chance to get regenerated due to lack of restful sleep. The doctor told me that these days, very young children are being diagnosed with sleep apnea. Basically sleep apnea is when the muscles in your throat area relax to the point when air cannot flow through well enough, inhibiting proper breathing. Anyone that snores has most likely sleep apnea.

It's the standing joke in my house that I DON'T snore...lol Every time we go on holidays and we're all in a hotel room, I complain about the DH and DD and they say I snore, which I vigorously deny. Here's a little secret between us, I admit I woke myself up snoring a week or so ago, too!

Sugar, I always bring the ambian on a trip..... for my husband so he can sleep I don't hear anything when I'm sleeping .0

Count me in with the snorers..(is that a word)...My hubby wears earplugs..though..I don't snore as much as I used to...I do however wake up at 12:30, 3:30 and 5:30 every night...I don't know what it would be like to sleep through an entire night. I keep a bottle of water on the nightstand..take a big swig and go back to sleep..it has become the norm for me.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I went to IN to see my new little nephew. We had a great trip, but I really missed being with all my other nieces and nephews here at home.
I go by my dx date as my cancerversary...

Lovelyface,
I am going to my mother's appointment with a a pulmonologist next Monday. She is 74 and was told after knee replacement surgery a month ago that she might have sleep apnea. She has heart issues and has had quadruple bypass surgery in 2002 and had stents replaced (or maybe added) 2 years ago. She did the sleep study (although she was mad she had to do it) and quit breathing 50 times during a 6-hr period. She really does not want the CPAP and is hoping to get some alternatives. I am interested in hearing her options, but am pretty sure she will still need the device. If you have info regarding the ease, inconvenience, options you were given, questions to ask, I would appreciate it. Feel free to PM me if you want. Thanks!

I go by my diagnosis date, too.
When we were kids, Mom and Dad would always take a nap after Sunday lunch, and there would always be horrible snoring. We would tease Dad (6 ft. 1 in. and 250 lbs) and he would always vigorously insist that it was Mom (5 ft. 2 and 130 lbs). We knew he snored because he did whenever he fell asleep on the couch, and because Mom complained that him quitting breathing for 10 or 15 seconds at a time always woke her up before the snoring kicked in again. Well, my Dad died in 2003 and we took turns staying with Mom for a few weeks (she eventually kicked us out because our hovering was driving her nuts), and we compared notes afterward. "Wow, Mom snores like a trucker!" "Yep, I had to bring ear plugs to be able to sleep." "Maybe Dad was telling the truth all that time..."

Kristy - I just read an article about an alternative to CPAP. It is FDA approved nasal patches called Provent. I don't know how to create a link, but if you go to The New York Times online, you will see the article on the lower right side of the page, called Treating Sleep Apnea Without the Mask.

I've never snored until about 3 months into chemo. I woke myself up one night. I'm writing it off to another personal humiliation caused by chemo!

Hugs to all just dropping in to wish everyone well.

Ahh, personal humiliation caused by chemo.....Doesn't that just sum it up? Just add it to the list.0

Ok ladies, how many of you experienced pre-menstral symptons while going thru chemo pause. I swear each month now I get a little more of the symptoms and today I feel like my boobs have double in size. I think I should be expecting it back any day now.

I'm a "new snorer" too! Ever since chemo (and I've been done since 12/30/10), I tend to snore more often than I ever did. I used to if my nose was stuffed up or something, but now it has nothing to do with being congested. I was so tired when I went to be last night and I apparently snored ALL night long (poor DH!). I usually wake up 2-3 times per night and I didn't last night! I don't usually snore all night, but just here and there. I can't believe that chemo can cause sleep apnea. Maybe I'll talk to my oncologist when I go in June for my 6-month check up. Was thinking of trying those "breathe right" strips tonight for my DH's sake!
