mjb - *aka: the Blur*   I'm sorry you had so many problems with your recon.  I haven't had any infections so I can't complain too loudly.  I'm sorry your dad is not well.  Sending prayers.  ((hugs))

DM - My Centrium Silver and Viactive list vitamin D...not D3.  So is that the wrong kind? Hmmm.... I need to study this more.

mjb-  So sorry about all your complications.  Jeez I just saw the evening news and they clarified recommendations for breast implants.  They said everyone needs to get an MRI every 3 years to make sure they aren't leaking silicone.  They said they were never meant to be forever, they need to be replaced every 5 to 10 years.  Really?

faithroad-  It should say Vitamin D3 cholecalciferol.  Make sure if your doctor checks blood they are doing the 25 hydroxy    (something like this).  Even doctors are checking the wrong D levels,  Mine said my levels were fine.  I asked for a copy of the lab test and she read the wrong levels!

Granny-  Okay, here is where you need to really practice tough love.  Your kids need to take care of their own stuff and let you get healthy again.  You tell them to not bother you with their nonsense (you will do them a favor making them grow up).  If that doesn't work, tell them your NYC friend is going to come over there and give them a serious come to Jesus lecture!  You make me laugh like crazy....wish my A$$ was skinnier!  You might want to go to the healthfood store and get a good quality acidophillus, it is a lot more effective than Activia.

K - Tell you kids if DM comes so do I and they do not want to mess with this mean mother when she is protecting a friend.  (If anyone thinks I was not a mean mother just ask my daughters. The oldest one gave me a plaque to prove it.)

mjb and faithroad- sorry you ladies have had such a problem with the recon.  I am so fortunate that I have not had any problems...yet....! Sending lots of {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} to both of you.

Hello, Ladies ... a long time since I have posted... hope you all are doing well...Annette I think there is a similar thread among us as I have had the same take charge and take care of every one BUT my self...I now have stge 3 cancer... yes thats a wake up call...but I will tell you my new life as I call it is to do one fun thing for myself everyday... and do one less thing for someone I have been carrying to long...I give them fair warning and instruct them how to do it and when... then give praise when it does get done...my husband says the business is now capable without me, but they light up when I arrive and now email me instead of just let me find out ...now if I could just fix the cat who is TOTALLY spoiled I would be GREAT!!!!!!!! LOTS OF HUGGGS!!!!!EVERYONE, CathWink

mjb- sorry you have to go through this but glad you found an answer that is right for you-when we *know* what is right, then we should go for it.

thanks cat:) i am working on it....i have a ton to do today and decided to work from home instead of the office...i can clear so much more out that way.

i gotta tell you all thanks for being just so wonderful= it means a lot.

two hawks came to see me this morning when i went outside with my coffee....they were magnificent....for such a city girl i love nature beyond reason....it is healing...which is why when i am in DC next week after conference stuff and writing my articles and shopping (not a lot-just a little) I will make my way to Rock Creek Park and take a stroll...parks in big cities are a very good thing

when i come home i will have a week before my next and hopefully final boobs surgery (except for tattoos)...that is once again my D-Day to stop smoking...so odd, I take such good care of myself and then I light up a cig....hmmmm.....that does not compute....have to find another thing to calm myself as I know the cigs do not really calm me.....

weighing in on the vitamin D- i first heard about its importance years ago at the very conference I am attending next week...private and public researchers were all underscoring its importance for all...i did not pay a lot of attention until BC....ah, in retrospect....it does seem to be one of those commonalities we all share....mine was 18 pre-DX....last count was over 100 (now backed off the mega doses to get me there and am on 5000 vit D3. my doc takes two levels and the results explained...ie. supplementation ,etc

DM - Thank you for the D3 details.

mjb - you are not alone.  I'm standing with you, and others are making the same decisions we are.  I was at a BC support group and one of the ladies there wants to take hers out too. Glad things went well and you are resting.  I hate those drains, but I know they are neccessary.  I'll have another set of my own soon.  Hope you don't need yours in for too long (((drain quickly))).  Sending you love and prayers for a full recovery and peace of mind.

annettek - those two hawks sound amazing!!  How nice of them to join you for coffee!  I love to see birds like that.  I've seen eagles a couple times here, though not as much as I would like.  I'm a city girl too (well, as much as possible in my little town) and it is a real honor to see wildlife and so exciting!  Those two hawks would totally make my day!!

cat, amyjo, barbara, tanmar, everyone....hugs to you all!!

This is now officially my favorite thread and group of people.  I'm cutting down on the number of threads I follow.  It's about quality not quantity.  *smile*

Hello, Everyone hope you are all doing well today... I have a question, was told by my oncoligist last visit for herceptin which I am on for a year, no problems with that but now she wants me to start on Arimidex in july for 5 years!!! Anyone else in the same boat I am, also need to make an appt. for mammo in July... am scared to death of that...any info would be appreciated, L.Cath

    Hi Cat,

I started on Arimidex (the generic anastrazole) in January. My onc said hormonal therapy is as important for me (very ER+/PR+) as chemo. I also will be on it for 5 years. It prevents estrogen from being formed in your body so it cannot feed any cancer cells.

I have tolerated it pretty well. I started having a lot of hot flashes (I had already started because of chemopause) and started getting aches and pains in my hands and feet. I was really stiff in the morning, and after sitting in the same position for awhile. Recently I started taking Effexor and almost all of my side effects are much better. I would see how you do first. I felt the side effects within the first month of starting to take A. I think the side effects are just the results of having no estrogen. I felt 64 not 44! Not fun, but tolerable, and better than having a recurrence. Just my 2 cents.

    cat54,

I started Femara (which is an aromotase inhibitor in the same family as Arimidex) in April.  I have experienced the aches and stiffness that shelleyj43 mentioned (I am 44 also).  However, everyone has a different experience with the estrogen suppressants.  You will hear from some people with bad experiences, and some who have no SE's whatsoever.  Hopefully you will fall into the latter group, but if not there are ways to deal with the side effects (there are multiple threads that address this topic), these drugs are exremely important to us hormone positive girls.  I am sorry (but completely understand) your anxiety about your upcoming mammo - keep the faith that everything will be OK!  Hugs to you!

THANKS !!! Shelly and Tlundy for calming my fears yes I am triple positive and know this is good for me but it helps to connect to others who are going thru the same thing...got the info about hot flashes and possible ostioperosis..I am 54 so I thought I would be done with that...after chemo... but BC is the gift that keeps giving I will get thru the mammo...THANKS TO YOU BOTH :) DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT ALL OF YOU...KEEP ME POSTED AS HOW YOU BOTH ARE DOING!!! HUGS ...CATH

cat54 - You should do fine on the Arimidex. I am 61 an have been taking Femara since Aug 2010 and SEs have been minor aches in my hands that started in the last couple of months. As for the mamo I understand your fears.  When you go ask the tech to use the hand adjustment and no the foot one.  Also ask for the guard to protect your thyroid.  Those 2 things will make it a little easier to bear.  They all have those options, but you have to ask for them.  Take care and try not to worry too much and keep us updated on how you are doing.

Morning everyone.....here is hoping everyone is waking up to a magnificent day....I am feeling better after spending time with my mom last night- she is MAGIC...I have not wanted to burden her with all of my drama but this selfish 54 old baby needed some of her *stuff* from her 84 year old mom....funny- so many want to define her by dementia or alzheimers...ahh, yes, she is older, and forgets much...but she is still her...this wonderfully perfect imperfect amazing woman...as my tears flowed from me as I exhaled all that has been bottled up...those beautiful brown eyes of hers flared up with all of her fierce mother love ...she is just the best person i know...she loves without question and her words are wise and love enveloping. She remains my very best friend.- the pic is at the park and is one of many as my beautiful mom loves to get her picture taken....she was charming the pants off everybody walking by...

funny- i asked her when WHEN W H E N does life become easy and she shook her head...and said No, it never really does... but then she smiled wide and said but honey, it does have its moments...

that may sound incredible negative but you had to be there for that look she gave me- it encapsulated everything that matters in a life.

I leave for DC in the morning and thanks to mom, I will go with a bit of my *self* intact...I don't know what tomorrow brings in my personal life-hubby is here to stay with kids this week while I am gone- but I do know I will look for the wonder....

    Annettek - I cried as I read about you and your mom.  What a blessing.  I'm so happy for you, and loved reading about your magical moments with her.  Praise God, he knows what we need and when we need it.  {{{ hugs }}}
BTW thanks for sharing that wonderful photo.  She is beautiful!!!

annetteK-  Okay, your mom's response is going to become my new motto!  "Does life ever become easy?" "No, but it has its moments!"  Aint it the truth!  What a gift to still have your wise, beautiful, mother in your life.  I still miss my own sensible, funny mom most days and she has been gone since '96.  Here is my advice for your sabbatical week (for what it's worth).  As you have no one to "take care" of (DH has that covered), practice being a little selfish.  Decline anything business-related that is not mandatory and fun.  Find things in DC that might delight you inside and out (museums, gardens anything).  Schedule some relaxing spa treatments.  You will be amazed at how much tension your body is holding, once you have a good massage therapist working on you.  Take time to be alone with your thoughts and emotions.  I think you will come back much more balanced and whole.  It has been a tough year and you have had more non BC challenges than most. Wow, what a beautiful photo, so much in that face!

Annette have a great time and relax while you are in DC.  What a wonderful visit you had with your mom.  It is funny the mind is a beautiful thing.  Even with your mom's dementia she still connects with you and gets if for you.  How wonderful that you still have her.

Annettek - What an amazing Mom you have.  It is so wonderful that you have her to go to when you need her love and wisdom.  Thanks for sharing that photo of her, there is so much life, beauty and wonder in that face.  I have missed my Mom so very much.  Take time while you are in DC and take DesignerMoms advice and find and do the things that will bring you joy and pleasure.  Sending you lots of prayers and [[[[[[[[[[HUGS]]]]]]]]]]

Annettek I loved DC enjoy yourself. I loved the monuments and the gardens the most. Your mom is beautiful and I am glad you can spend quality time with her.

Doing better each day. I have been on Femara since October and the SE I have had is achey joints. But have noticed my feet hurting a lot more but since my surgery I have been taking pain meds and the do not hurt as much. Going to talk to my Dr about that on Monday see what can be done.

Annette, your Mom is the bomb! Have a great time in DC. I lived there for 25+ years. Go to the Air and Space and the National Gallery and the Corcoran. WOW!! I never knew museums cost money until I moved to St Pete. BTW, for those visting here, check out the Dali museum and the Chihuly museum. OMG!! We rock as far as art goes.

Today is my one year cancer~versary of being notified that I had BC.  I know a lot of ladies use other dates.  But this was the day my world was turned upside down and all the true drama started.  Not celebrating...just marking the milestone that I made it thru year one.  Have a wonderful day, everyoneCool
