I'm a 2010 sister just starting to get involved here - great site!  I'll be one year out from diagnosis on Friday, July 15th.  I'm growing some hair post-treatment and am back to singing and writing music.  (Lots to write about with the events of the past year...)  Best wishes to all and I look forward to participating in the group :)

Hello to all--it's been a long road since my diagnosis in November--still so grateful to all of my doctors--especially Dr. B who spotted my  tiny microcalcification that others may have missed and Dr. M for making me come back for a second biopsy because she wasn't convinced that my first benign results were convincing enough (too small of a sampling).

Very glad to have made it through 2010--devastating year financially, emotionally and physically (lost my business and nearly my life by sticking with the wrong business partner/boyfriend for way too long).  I'm finally back working--love being productive and making money again but my new boss is another challenge.

I enjoy reading the posts here and thank everyone for being so open and sharing--especially to DesignerMom who has given me lots of great advice as I navigate the next chapter of my life.  For whatever craziness my new boss doles out, I'm grateful for a paycheck from a non-profit group whose mission I truly believe in--and the flexibility of working 3 full days and 2 half-days.  I'm still battling fatigue and lymphedema so the flexibility is great.  Today's one of my half days so I'm staying in bed for as long as I feel like!

Thanks again to everyone and take good care of yourself today!  Kim from NY

Amyjo you have not told us any cute stories about that puppy dog of yours.  Is she still hiding keys from you?

Hi everyone.  I don't post as often as I used to.  I feel the need to "get on with real life" and found that I was spending too much time with BC.  I do get alerts when anyone posts on my favorite threads, including this one, so I keep "abreast" (did I just say that!) of the goings on.  Sorry if I don't respond to everyone, you all remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Amy Jo-  My sweet friend!  Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone practiced your 4 F rules!

BrilandGirl-  You sound great and like you are keeping balanced.  One step at a time, don't get ahead of yourself.

AnnetteK-   You too....one step at a time.  Practice taking care of your needs, not only everyone else's.  I believe life has a way of giving you what you need most.  Remember your beautiful, wise mom's advice "there are moments".  Her words are embedded in me and I will always remember them.

A tip for all of you who are trying to avoid sugar.  I wholeheartedly agree.  Not only does sugar feed cancer, it causes inflammation, which is thought to possibly lead to cancer and definitely leads to heart disease and diabetes.  I have truly broken all cravings for processed sweets (I am perfectly satisfied with fruit now for a taste).  I did it not by brute willpower of avoidance.  I started adding in low glycemic index fruits, veggies etc... I also use only Agave Nectar if I want a bit of sweetness in my plain yogurt.  Agave is incredibly sweet and can be used in baking and cooking.  The advantage is that it is much lower in glycemic index so it does not seem to set up that vicious cycle of craving more sweets.

I am spending the summer on a sleepy little island in Canada, gardening, reading, cooking and staring mindlessly onto the spectacular ocean views.  That is when I am not painting, hacking out shrubs, deciding whether I can paint over old formica kitchen cabinets etc...Have a wonderful summer everyone!

Here is an update on post surgery follow up with PS, I did not think he removed enough skin when he removed the TE expander

PS follow up, it was fluid build up. He drained 130 cc of it. After that it looked a lot better. He wants to see me in a week to make sure it doesn't building back up. In the mean time I am to wear a tight sports bra (threw my surgery binder away) and bind with a 6 in ace bandage, especially over night. If the fluid still builds up he is going to recommend a pump be put in. Hope that doesn't happen. Over all ok with the visit, I just need to give it time.

Sherry - Daisy still does some silly things but she does not get my keys unless she thinks I am going some where with out her.  I am staying home more now so she is not getting my keys so often.  She still takes my phone sometimes for no apparent reason.  The last time I did not bother looking for is and she actually put it back in my purse!  With the weather being so hot, when I am outside she will come get in my face and make her "talking" sounds to tell me it is time to go inside. I honestly think she has a built in clock because she will continue to do that every 3 minutes like clock work until I quit whatever I am doing and go inside.  She starts after i have been outside for 15 minutes.  Then she lays in front of the door and if to tell me "No you are not going back out there."  She like to get in my lap when I am on the computer and that makes for some interesting typing as my computer is a laptop that I have in my lap.  She will keep hitting the mouse with her paw until I finally give up and log off and just pet her.  She is not spoiled, not much anyway.

DM - Enjoy your summer with the beautiful views and stary skies.  Miss you my dear sister.

I think I better be off to bed. Daisy just came in and nibbled my toe. That is my que to go to bed so she can go to bed!

Thank you for the warm welcome and candid discussion.  I'm so glad to know that I'm not alone in the somewhat difficult quest to make healthy changes.  I guess the important thing is not to beat myself up if I slip up and live life to the fullest.

Well the infection is back again. Thought we had it all cleared up last month, but it started with the feet and ankles swelling and the rash around my ankles again last Thursday night.  Called the onco on Friday and he called in 2 Rx for me and then I saw him today and he told me to stop pulling weed and digging in the dirt with my bare hands with all the ants and other bugs that are there.  He thinks I have a staff infection and that this round of antiBs will clear it up.  I just need to stay out of the yard at least for a while.  It does look better today snd the swelling is down considerably so we will see how it goes for the next few days.  I will try to stick to the back porch when I go outside and stop pulling weeds; however, I am beginning to think that weed pulling is adictive!  See a weed I just have to pull it up.

amyjo sure hope the infection clears up this time for good.  Since you did so much weed pulling just enjoy your garden from the back porch for awhile.

I think the screened in back porch is the place I will stay at least for a while.  However, it is so hot I think I will just stay inside where it is cool.  Thanks for all the hugs.  Love you all.

big hug to you AMy- and you are right- weed pulling is addicting- I have been outside digging whenever I get the chance- which is downright whacko but I think therapeutic somehow...I called a halt to it this morning when I was leaving for work-dressed the whole shebang- and found myself crawling up the waterfall thingy to pull a rogue weed-....:)

I pull weeds at work, too. We just have one groundskeeper and all of those weeds....AmyJo, if you just have to pull weeds, put on some cotton or leather gloves while you do it. I first did this during chemo and made a habit of it. It saves your hands from blisters & scratches, too. I have one of those garden carts I sit on so I don't have to bend over too far. We will have to start a group of weed-pullers anonymous!

Ooooooh how fun and Weed Pullers Anonymous!  It is addicting so why not.  It takes every ounce of self control I have not to pull weed in the planters at the Mall!  I think I will go see if I can find some cotton gloves at the garden shop tomorrow.

Hey, you can all come over to my house, I have LOTS of weeds! Can't seem to get ahead of them this year. Being on vacation for almost 2 weeks didn't help.

Shelley, they say cutting off the curls causes the hair to grow in straighter. Here's to your new shorter do!
