Shelley I am just glad you added to the information.  I have never asked my BS either why she did not give me options.  I guess at this point it really does not matter.  I am going to have a BMX  with immediate DIEP reconstruction the end of march.  My PS is going to do it all so I will not need a general surgeon in surgery.  He says I have too much damage from rads and he wants to save as much of my blood supply as possible along with taking a blood vessel from another area as he does microsurgery during all of it. So he does not want another surgeon messing with his stuff.  At least I know he is particular and he is not rushing me.  In fact he wants me to wait because I am healy so  slowly from rads and he wants for me to be able to heal well when I have it done and he wants me to gain weight before the surgery so I am working on that.  It just would have been nice to have had the BMX at first and skipped rads. But oh well we deal with what we have been handed.

you got that right Sherry- and I like the way your PS thinks...you WANT them to be particular about their work- too many cases where the BS and PS are not on the same plane at all-when I got my DX last October I was kinda (not kinda-totally) adamant about a BMX...BS tried to explain the two options- and I shook my head and said no...i want the bmx..and she said, ok, rather radical but it is your choice. And for that I am grateful, for her understanding how important having a choice was in the first place- facing this BC crap takes so many choices off the table and so many docs do indeed play god, they KNOW what is best, when in fact, it is usually one of two things (of course allowing for whatever suspected DX is) 1) it is the way they always do it depending on DX and they offer no other options 2) it is the latest wave of treatment -they are either against prophylactic surgeries this year or it is best...whatever comes out of whatever medical journal. You know, it was odd, the original onc (superstar onc) was so against my choice and kept shaking his head, saying no need, no need...then when I saw him after the BMX and he was reviewing everything - which showed no evidence of cancer in left breast- he said "You know something, I think you made the right choice. I don't know why I think that, but you did." It was all based on "feeling"- what a concept to get a scientist to admit subscribing to. Regardless, we have to be proactive in all of this and learn to listen to our guts a little better. It has been bred out of us. I am not talking flash emotions here- but that conviction in your core that says...HEY. Might not make any difference in the long run, who the hell knows, but then again, maybe it will.

Annettek - listening to the conviction in your core...that's good advice!  I struggled with that at the beginning.  I knew for sure I wanted the BMX and it turns out that was possibly a life-saving decision.  But I struggled so much with having reconstruction or not having reconstruction.  I kind of let people talk me into it (My fault, not theirs).  Now that I have had the deconstruction I am much more confortable, both physically and mentally.

I am so glad I listened to my intuition or heart or gut or core or whatever you want to call it.  It really was the best option for me as there was so much more that was found than what they were expecting.  I just knew they would find more than they were originally looking for.  Just goes to prove noone know your body better than you do.

We got to bring him home on Monday and he is now already on a steady schedule, eating every 4 hours.  He is so precious, even #6 has a special place in Grammie's heart.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

amy Jo congrats what a beautiful boy.

I also have good news, my youngest DS and DIL are having TWINS!! due Feb 19th, they have one daughter that will be 5 in Sept, she is the one I have posted a picture of before.  They had a miscariage last year right after my cancer surgery.  So Monday she went to the dr and he told her that she was in the safe zone now, but will have to start taking it easy at 5-6 months.  She is a lawyer and no more court dates after that.

Thanks for all the congratulations.  Micah is already developing quite a unique personality.  DH started calling him Mighty Mic, this from the guy that has never call grandchildren anything but by thier full name!  DD wants everyone to call him Micah, we'll see how long before she starts calling him by a nickname.

SherryC - congratulations to you too.  I will keep your DIL in my prayers that everything turns out with 2 perfect babies in Feb.  Let us know if you can what they will be girls, boys or one of each.

amyjo I'll let you all know as my DIL and DS are dying to find out as well, but it is still too early.  I think by the next Dr visit they should be able to tell.

Sheri sorry you are on the boards but be glad you are here.  I did not find the boards until after my DX, BMX and chemo. Got on board after my recon surgery in Nov. was not sucessful and was looking for help.  The girls helped walk with me during my rads.

Ask lots of questions, 2 nd option if you do not feel your BS is giving you the answers you are looking for.  Bring a spouse or friend to your appointments with you to take notes because you will not remember 80% of what they told you.  It is a scary time but we are here for you.  I had a biopsy just like yours, the original dx was IDC but the final path after BMX was ILC.  It does depend on the size of your tumor on whether you should do rads or not.  Mine ended up being big at the 11:00 position and they also found a smaller mass at the 1:00 position so it had spread.  It also depends on lymphnods involved too.  Ask us questions, vent frustration when needed and we will siber hold your hand through all your appointments.  HUGS.

AmyJo all I can say is cute as a button.

Sherryc OMG twins, that is great.  btw how is your dad.

mjbmiller, my dad is doing really well, but my mom is really tired.  She and my aunt who lives with them says he gets very demanding about certain things and my mom gets frustrated.  Thanks for asking.  How are you holding up?

Mjb - so sorry to hear about your Dad. I know how hard that loss is even if you are sure he is in a better place. I lost my Dad in 2009 and I still miss him more than words can express. My heart is with you. And it does get a little easier with time.

OK ladies I have to share a funny here

On another thread I found out that mjbmiller's maiden name is newton and so is mine.  She said she had been doing geneology since her dad had died and had started a tree on Ancestry.  Well I also have a tree on ancestry and when we compared out trees found out we are very distant cousins.  To be specific we are 7th cousins once removed.  Who would have every thought.  There is also another lady on here heartnsoul and her maiden name is newton as well.  So we are going to see if we are related to her as well. Small world we live in.
