red- Yep, those are my exact fears! How do we know the chemo got the cancer? For that matter, how do I know my good breast doesn't have it as mammo did not visualize it? I am scheduled for a mammo and US in March.
lago- Thanks for clarifying that an MRI wouldn't pick up early, small cancer cells. I was thinking I should have an MRI to get an "all clear". Unfortunately, it;s not that simple is it?
teklya- Okay, I am not going to complain about how cold and miserable winters in NYC are anynmore. You poor thing! Stay warm!

i dont hold too much faith in mammograms, yes they detected my 1cm tumour, but it didnt detect two other spots close by that were 2mm and 3mm. But the MRI did. I was looking at my pathology report and 95% of my tumpur was DCIS and the remaining 5% was IDC.
Lago- did you have your breast removed? the other one too?

My MO is running my tumor markers, not for sure when I will get the results. He does feel sure that we got it and in full remission. He said that the scan would only be necessary if we find something, it would not be beneficial at this point. I am just not going to worry about. See him in three months, my cancerversary.
Now I am sure we are not going to get the ice and snow the wheather men/women said but could be surpised in the morning. Still very cold for TX.

I will have a mri and a mammo in April. I had a left mx. Neither mammo nor mri caught the 3.5cm idc last year (mammo showed a few suspicious calcifications), and the biopsy only showed dcis with a micro invasion. Didn't get clean margins with the lump., so I had a mx and they found dcis throughout the breast. I worry now about what is in my remaining breast that they can't see! I might still have that breast removed too, haven't made up my mind yet.
After all the tests are done, the best the docs can say is we are "NED" (no evidence of disease). I will be happy to hear that, but someday I would LOVE to hear "cured"!

redninrah I had both my breast removed. They did do an MRI on both my breast before surgery. They found 4 suspicious spots in the "good" breast. They were really only concerned about one of those spots. We decided to go for the BMX instead of doing yearly biopsies. Good thing. That spot ended up being LCIS.
LCIS typically does not show up on a mammogram.

Tek - MAN that is COLD!!!! I haven't been in that kind of cold for 40 years (when I lived in Erie, PA). I did get to experience 4 degrees last January in Vermont. And I thought I would DIE!. When I got back to the hotel, I got in the shower and stayed there for an hour.
Annette, I get my results next week while I am on my cruise so it will wait until I get back.
24 hours from now I will be airport-bound! FYI, average daytime temp for where the cruise goes is 85 degrees F.

Going out of town this weekend to visit with old friends. Going to have an early celebration as I finish rads on Monday. I have not had the best time with rads and am currently taking pain killers but I decided I would rather do that than take a break I just want to finish. Looking forward to seeing my friends this weekend.

I asked my MO about checking to see if the cancer returns, and was told it will depend on MY own symptoms. (I had partail MX of right breast) now chemo then rads then tamoxifin. . So basically, I will worry the rest of my life. I have ALOT of cysts in both breasts, so I wouldnt know a lump if I felt it. Routine mamo found calcification's, thats the only way I knew.

Well, Im supposed to have #4 of 6 on Monday, then the rest of the year just herceptin, but my Dr will be out of the office on Monday. I want to postpone it anyway because I have a lawyer depo on Wed and didnt want to be sick. So Im hoping to do #4 next week.
But, the office is closed today, and my appointment is at 8:15 on Monday, so I guess I'll show up and see what happens. The NP will see me, but without a Dr there, she wont be able to give me the TX anyway. So heres hoping for a postponement.

It is so cold here again and I have been freezing all day! DH build a big fire in the fireplace when we got home from dinner and I put on my PJs and fluffy robe and curled up in my big chair by the fireplace. I don't thing it got above freezing today and we are looking at getting snow this next week. NC is not supposed to be this cold! Everyone stary warm and get plenty of rest and enjoy everything you can each day.

Me, too. It's cold as a witch's tit here. That's what my Grandmother would have said! 37 in good old Winter Haven, hah! Amyjo is there snow? My 18 year old DD is in Durham. The fire and some tea sound really good!0

shelley43..I mentioned to my DH about it being cold as a witch's tit he finished the sentence saying wearing a brass bra. Never heard that in my life I roared. Ha Ha !!! Dianemoe! I haven't heard that part before, but it's perfect! My Grandmother, rest her soul, was from Indiana. I'll have to add that from now on! Glad you weren't offended. I did think about it before I posted, and hoped it wasn't too offensive!

Okay, as we are on this subject. I have lived in NYC for 25 years, but grew up in Iowa, and still have lots of customary sayings. Whenever I let fly "useless as tits on a rooster", New Yorkers always laugh like crazy....not that any of them have seen a rooster in their life!

Shelley, my DD is in NC too. She's really not used to the cold and said there was snow coming Tues. The first time it snowed she called and asked me what to do. I said I guess drive in it like it was really bad FL rain.
We had the saying as useless as tits on a bull. But I like the witch the best especially with the bra! LOL

DesignerMom and shelleyj43 - come on over and join the PJ Tea Party. I would love to have you come and I have plenty of room, with 8-9 beds in the house I am sure we can all find a place to sleep. (2 sets of bunk beds and a daybed w/ a trundle) I actually have 4 bedrooms and the daybed is in the loft area that is easy to make another bedroom when needed. There would be plenty of seating around the fireplace too. ;-) DH went to camp and got plenty of wood for the fireplace so we are ready to get snowed in should it come to that.
I have been so very tired lately and today I have had a few dizzy spells, mostly when I would stand up too quick or lean over too far picking something up from the floor. Not sure what that is all about. Checked my BP and it is in my normal range, which is lower than most normal people. If I am still dizzy tomorrow I think I may call the doctor or at least the nurse. This last round of Aredia with the added steriods has been really different. I normally don't have any reaction to the steriods and the bone pain and tireness usually only last 3 days max. This time I was wound up for about 1 1/2 days and then when I was coming down from the steriod high I was really jittery and the tiredness has lasted for almost 2 weeks now. There is a virus going around here and i sure hope I am not getting that! I go see the RO on Thursday to find out how many treatments I will be having and when they will start. The PS said that I am healing so well from the surgery on the 6th that there should not be any delay on the treatments because of that. Last time I talked to the RO he indicated that there may be 35-40 treatments based on how I did with the last round of rads on my spine. I don't handle getting zapped very well.
Well I am going to go update my caringbridge webpage so my family will know that I am doing ok and all treatments are still moving along on schedule. Everyone stay warm and you are welcome to come enjoy my fireplace and the teapot is always on.

You're right! I never want to have to go through this again. I've come through two sugeries, 8 rounds of chemo and 6-1/2 weeks of radation. Two docs recommended the Tamoxifen and it has been around for a long time and has good data behind it. I started back on the Tamoxifen two weeks ago. I never want to have the regret that I didn't do everything I could to prevent another cancer diagnosis.

mjbmiller, Love your new pic, my hair is just starting to sprout and its mostly white!! I am told this can change boy I hope so I would be very happy with salt n" peppa!! Good to hear your news thats great!!! Had my preop apt yesterday in Boston, tomorrow is the day and of course we are expecting a big snow!!! We will make it down to Boston I am sure but DD and DH will be with me I hope they can make it out of Boston. We are having a winter like the old days. Love to all I'll check back in after...Kaz

After sitting for a half an hour or more, I can barely move - I feel a lot older than 43! Is this a common SE of chemo and/or radiation and/or BC?? It's horrible!

Hey MarriedBlis,
I just turned 44 in December. I have been noticing the same thing, being pretty stiff after I've sat awhile. I've been on my AI for just over a month now (anastrazole/arimidex) and have attributed it to that. I feel like an old lady! I've been taking one ibuprofen in the morning to help with the stiffness. Are you on tamoxifen or an AI, may I ask? Some oncs don't want to give it to us young'uns but mine was ok with it. I haven't had a period since the 2nd chemo.

Shelley, I'm not on AI's yet. Finished 30 rounds of rads on Jan 12 and 6 rounds of chemo on 10/29. I've been feeling like this for a couple of weeks now. My onc says its due to atrophy but no matter how much I stretch or how often I move, its always hard to get going after a while.

marrieblis have you tried yoga. It is really good for the stretching and if you went a couple of times a week it might help with the atrophy and the workouts are easier on the body
