Jenn, at least you know your chances of recurrence are greatly minimised by the surgery: short term 'pain' for long term gain. That thought should keep you buoyed as Friday approaches.

Can i just say hahahahahaa Kate. Too funny, feel free to post those photos on your fb hehe
Im learning heaps from reading all of your comments regarding Jenn's surgery, it will help if I ever decide to reconstruct so thanks all.
Hope your not getting nervous Jenn, pretty sure if I was you Id just want it over with so you can put all this crap in the past, recover and get on with life so I hope thats how your feeling mate.

Jenn....I do read here a bit but don't post that often. I just wanted to wish you well with your bi-lat mast.and recon.
As you can read from my bio I decided on a prophylactic mast. on my right breast months after my mastectomy on my left which was found to have IDC and DCIS.My mother had BC in both breasts.
After my second mastectomy I felt an enormous relief. My recon was successful (implants) and I had a problem free recovery.
I know after all your research that you have made the right decision and are doing everything you can for a healthy life. Its not an easy path to take and I certainly had people questioning my decision (even Drs). Back then prophylactic mastectomies were not the norm but 20 years later I certainly have no regrets.
Big hugs
jezza xx

Lovely dinner out at La Cena to celebrate - served a bit too quickly but really yummy - we're both full now

Update on the car situation. One positive thing about going through really tough times is you learn what's really worth worrying about and reacting too. Paul was fine about the car (he did point out a few times though that cars have mirrors these days) but he kept it in perspective. Sue, glad you had a really nice dinner. I'm sure you'll sleep beautifully tonight. xx0

It's me Kate. I used Aussie when I first joined not realising that there was an Australian thread. I really only post here and we are all Aussie's or Kiwi's with a few ex-pats thrown in for good measure, so really don't need to include Aussie anymore.

It was a shock Kate, but as soon as you mentioned Paul and your car I knew it was you . So glad Paul didnt get grouchy over it. Only thing, arent the mirrors for checking ones makeup? Are we actually supposed to use them when we drive0
-
Exactly right Linda. Must remember to tell Paul that one if he starts up.

Kate - so glad we don't have to go gunning for Paul lol. Yes being through what we've all been through certainly puts things in perspective, doesn't it. Cars are so easy to fix (maybe expensive sometimes, but easy)
Well - my great news! We got the wedding!! YAY!! They spoke to other photographers and picked us. I'm pretty darned proud of us right now, shows our website and prices are just right. So, now we just need a few more and I can get that lovely lens I've been salivating over (it's only $2,200 - yes that's just the lens) lol

lol Kate, how rude and you could not even do anything, like duck under the covers, the Families of today i dont know ??? like taking a photo of you when you are pissed and then show it after when you are sober. except in yr case you were under the influence of been relaxed. i dont like foul tasting drinks, would rather have a pill and its down the hatch, gone, not having to taste it, uhg yukky. the tamoxifen i had the other night disolved on my tongue as i was trying to find my drink, that was disgusting. Panadol is too, but my grand father used to chew them up, we used to watch in horror and i used to watch my mum screw her face up watching him, it was so funny and she was not even taking the darn panadol, but you would think she was, lol. hope everybody has a great day.

Hold everything..... My breast surgeon just phoned... She is pregnant and is right now sitting in the hospital with a complication. Not sure if she will be released or capable of surgery on Friday morning and without her doing the mastectomy first the surgery will have to be cancelled.
There is a back-up plan but it still involves her having to supervise the surgery as her public registrar will then perform or partly perform the MX (I am currently going in as a private patient and would still be private but with the MX done like it was public).
Won't really know if all OK until Friday morning right when surgery is scheduled... :-S
I had just gotten back from my Herceptin infusion when I got her call. I am gutted....

Oh Jenn, what a pain, gosh. i hope something works out 4 U and they can still do it. you are all syked up for it now, its hard when it gets posponed after you been looking forward to it. lets hope it still goes ahead, it kind of complicates everything. hope the surgeon will be ok with ther baby and that, but it is hard on you. gentle hugs.

OMG Jenn, that just sucks. I cant believe the bad luck. Guess we will just have to hope that its something minor and that she's right by Friday morning. Is there no other surgeon who could step in that has experience working with your PS just in case? To my mind for a MX, so long as they get all the breast tissue, its the recon thats gonna be the most important, so if they have a stand by surgeon could you stand to switch at the last minute??
I just cant believe you have to go through this so soon to the op.
Major HUGS heading your way along with best wishes that your BS is back on her feet in time for the op.

Oh dear Jenn. I hope it gets sorted sooner rather than Friday morning. Wishing good thoughts.
I had a bone scan yesterday. No suggestion of mets but mild increased uptake in shoulders, AC and SC joints, hips, elbows and wrists. Rest of body unremarkable. So girls what does 'mild increased uptake' mean? Thanks, Kylie
0 -
Kylie I googled it and came across http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_uptake_mean_in_a_bone_scan
I think you need to read that and then talk to your oncologist as to if and how that impacts on your tx.
In your case it could just mean you have a great metabolism and absolutely nothing to worry about, but if I was you Id want to know this info so I could ask intelligent questions of my onc and make sure of that.
When are you supposed to see yoru onc next?
0 -
Since the uptake is through a lot of joints it may just be arthritis. Have you had a previous scan to compare with - sorry I can't remember...
My BS works both privately and publically at this hospital. I am going in as a private patient. She now has a plan that so long as she can be discharged and is OK for Friday we will have her registrar perform the MX under her supervision and that part of the operation would be just as it would be if I was going in as a public patient and so there will be no gap.
Funnily enough (haha) my physio (male) is, as of last week, engaged to my BS' previous registrar and just yesterday he was telling me all about the current registrar and how good he is (and handsome!). So when my BS made the suggestion I was a bit more comfortable than I otherwise might be with the plan.
My BS agrees that her part of the surgery is not the important part and I guess they are being followed by a plastic surgeon who wants everything to go well. And, I do work closely with this hospital in my work life so they are all trying to do their best for me :-)

Im so glad Jenn, sounds like it should all work out and everything can go ahead on schedule. Last thing you needed was the last minute nerves about whether the op would go ahead or not though.
Think you deserve a lovely glass of wine tonight after your day today

Kylie take it from one who has bone mets and arthritis the uptake in your joints is arthritis. Get yourself some Boswellia Serrata ( it's a herbal anti inflammatory and works brilliantly) as well as either Krill Oil or Fish oil. I don't know if you take these already but they work well for me.
Jenn I sure hope everything works out well for Friday and your doc is at least able to supervise.
Yay Trish! Congrats on getting the job! Mmmm yes, some of those lenses sure do cost a lot!!
We have had really strong winds here all day. So strong that it has managed to break the post that my back gate closes against. What a pain! I'll have to work something out so ill probably have to build a new one. Why couldn't I have married a handy man? Maybe coz he needed a handy woman!
Love n hugs all! Chrissy0 -
Thanks ladies, it probably explains why I am always complaining that I am stiff and sore.
Chrissy, he is very lucky to have a handy woman.
Trish that is great you got the wedding job. Well done.

Hi Jennt28, My thoughts are with you as I read the latest setback you are having. This is so unlucky and I do send you my best wishes for a quick and successful resolution. I also read where you had to stop your RX treatment because of bad SE. I am about to start RX and am dreading it. I also have complications with lungs and feel that I would be one of the unlucky ones to have SE's. Went for a simulation this week and will see the RO for the planning result. I know part of the lung will be in the radiation line so just need to find out what percentage. If it is too great then I will be going for MX. Do so hope everything goes according to plan on Friday, keeping fingers crossed.

Jenn and Kylie, best wishes with the uncertainties you are facing. I hope all is ok.
Lolalee, where are you?
Hi Lynda, Trish and Chrissy.0 -
Thanks everyone :-) I am feeling pretty numb about this now. Luckily I have an appt with the psych onc tomorrow morning...
Good luck with your RO appt Lolalee - the reality is that most, if not all of your lungs will get some level of rays hitting. The important number is what percentage of your single lung will get enough rays to cause permanent damage. They usually tell you "x percentage of total lung capacity" because it sounds better. You have to ask specifically for the percentage of your right or left lung capacity. The acceptable (to doctors) percentage that can get hit enough to be permanently damaged is up to 20% of one lung.
Jenn0 -
Oh Jenn - I'm feeling for you, hopefully everything gets sorted out for you. You must be feeling so frustrated.
Kylie - as Chrissy said - increased uptake is the arthritis. I'm pretty certain when I had my bone scan they were the words used for my arthritis too. There should have been somewhere on the report that said no evidence of metastatic disease too though?
Lolalee, good luck with your RO appointment - I was "lucky" (lol) that I didn't have to do rads.
Hope everyone else is going well
Trish

Yes Trish, no evidence of metastic disease. I possibly wasn't clear enough before. Spring is here I bet your garden is at its best at the moment. I love to dry rose petals and make potpourri, not that I have done it for a while.
Jenn - hoping you get clear answers today.
Lolalee - it will be easier when you know where you are going. I was terrified of rads (more so than chemo) yet it was ok, just time consuming. Hopefully your doctor will give you clear cut info which will let you know what's best for you.

Hi Trisha-Anne, I am in Double Bay NSW I am living my own nightmare trying to decide if I should have RX or the MX. My RO is pushing so strongly for RX and I am to start soon but I just don't know if I can do it as at least 20% of my lung is in the firing line and I also have a multi nodule goitre which is tested annually. Just feel in my case the benefits would not outweigh the risks but RO feels it would be ok for me. Just don't want to make the wrong decision as only I can do that and with RX only get one chance on the left side of the breast. Also wonder if it recurs then what!

Oh that was for Racy who asked where I am located, sorry Trisha-Anne. Actually don't see many posting here from Sydney.

Hi Girls, well last night i spent the night in A&E at the Hospital. i awokd about 1am with this very strange headache, it was in my temple but seamed to radiate all over the left side of my face, jaw and ear and i tell you the pain was about a 9.5 outta 10. it was very painful. we arrived at the hospital at 1.15 and i never got to see a doc til 6.40am, it was a long wait, they did a blood test and when i got there got some strong meds to ease the pain. gosh i would not wish that on anybody. it was so bad. they not sure what it is, blood test was ok. they were wondering if there was a clot, tamoxifen can cause these tio happen and our family has a DVT, mum nearly died of one that went thru heart when she was 22. just as well she did not die, i was born when she was 28. they thought it could be SE of tamoxifen and if i get it again like that to go back, but i think i will go to GP, the wait is not as long. i am shattered neckered, DH is driving a truck today, he was with me til her had to go load trucks at 5, so i hope he will be ok. i feel bad keeping him up all night, but panadol and i took 4 in one go did not remove the pain. i will have a nap soon, when i clean up abit. i tried to have a sleep at hospital on bed when i waiting for tests, but woke up snoring, so i keep myself awake. i would cause havoc in AE with my snoring lol, gets pretty loud. anyway will go and do dishes and clean up abit and have rest.
Jenn, glad things for you are going to work out looks like, happy for you. and Kylie, hope things work out for you too.
Trish, congrats on the wedding job, bet you are chuffed. good one Hugs
Take care lovely Ladies.

Midnight you poor thing, what a shocking night and morning youve had.
I think you should call your onc or bs or whoever is the top of your medical team and tell them about what you went through, unless they were already consulted before you were released from hospital. While er docs are great, they dont necessarily have the day in day out expertise in dealing with bc and tamox s/e's that your own team who know your history would.
BTW Im disgusted you had such a long wait to see a doctor. Ive been to an er twice through my bc experience and each time, as soon as I told them of the bc and drugs I was on, they put me through their system fast as they know we are not there for a minor time wasting free check up. One was a blood clot and the other I think was a blood clot but it subsided or broke up before the us could find it.
Anyway i feel very strongly that you should contact your medical team and let them know what happened.
Hope after youve done that you can get some good rest and feel better.

yes thats a good idea. i will try and get hold of sheryl. BC Nurse, she is hard to nab, but last time i got her first pop, so i will give her a buz. thanks for that Linda, hubby is still upset at long wait, he thinks it stinks, they let a guy in with tummy pains about half hour after he arrived, we already been there 3 hours. he was texting all the time while he waitied. hubby was not impressed. the guy could of had alot of pain, but so did and i and so did this other poor girl who was crying with tummy pains in her gall bladder area, she came after us, but i feel she should of been seen much earlier, she was in and out of loo contantly too. felt sorry for her. and i felt sorry for me too. did i ever, i ususally dont give in, but man i did not have a choice last night.

I rang Cheryl BC Nurse, but as usual not in office, so ;left a breif voice messgae and if she gets back to me. she does, but at least she is knows anyway, my radiation Doctor told me when she put me on tamoxifen, if i ever got a pain anywhere that was out of the usual, to get to a doctor, as Tamies can cause blood clots, so i did as i was asked. even if it was not it, at least they are aware. as that was not normal. never ever experienced that ever b4
