Hello lovely ladies,
We survived the fires, (thank you for all your kind thoughts) although we did have embers dropping all over us for about 9 hours. That was scary, but we were well prepared, had the gutters blocked and full of water, and we ran around like crazy people with our water buckets and mops (an old mop and a bucket of water is the best way to put out embers). Unfortunately I managed to scratch myself and woke up the next morning with a temp, throwing up, and red streaky arm (again!)
I have spent the last week in hospital on an antibiotic drip, at least there was the tennis to watch LOL. After all the episodes of cellulitis last year and my immune system being so low, I now have to take antibiotics everyday forever. At least its just a pill, and hopefully it stops anymore infections.
Karen, I hope you have a lovely weekend in Sydney. Jen good wishes for your surgery tomorrow. Hugs to everyone else.

Oh Tanya! You have had some shit to deal with but I'm so glad that you came through the fires all intact. Boo! On that cellulitis .........don't forget to take some probiotics to keep your system on an equal functioning footing.
Take care!

Jenn - all the best for today, will be thinking of you.
Tanya - have been wondering how you went with the fires. So sorry to hear about your hospital visit though (((hugs)))
Wahine - thank you for the Australia Day wishes - it was a good day
After a few lovely days that weren't too hot or too cold, we now have another heat wave heading our way. Just what we need. Canberra is sooo dry at the moment, we've had almost no rain this month, just the odd downpour from a thunderstorm.
My pain has gone back to just niggling now. That was a pretty awful week last week and not one I'd like to repeat. Will see the specialist next week when I have my colonoscopy so will ask him about the appendix theory then.
I did a pet portrait shoot yesterday morning, and it was good - at least I was able to move fairly freely and able to lie on the ground to take shots and get up again without tooooo much moaning and groaning lol.

Hi Alyson, first of all, am very sorry about brother, i hope he is ok and recovers, thursday morning, have to be there at 6.45am for op , i am up first because of the diabetes, apprently. I was at the Radiotherapy doctor, oncologist, i call her Dr Claire and i told her about the fact my ribs ached, actually becoming continously painful. and my back and she said, she was going to order me a bone scan and i thought, well that will be awhile. well i got letter in post yesterday, bone scan friday, have to be there, for injection at 9.50 to do something and then have to 2 cups of liquid, tea, anything, and back at one for the scan. anyone had a bone scan, what doesit in entail and is the injection like they do for MRI, a port in the hand. or is it a tracer like they injected my boob for a sentinel node biospy. i am going to be having a port one for the op, (may as well leave it in), i hate those ones, my hand is boney and it hurts when they put it in. other than that am very glad to have it done and yes do they scan entire body or just the parts i said, were achey. They were quick off the mark. hubby says, Dr Claire must be concerned about something to be having it done so quickly, as it just over a week and i am having it done from telling her.
How is everyone else doing> how things with your mum Jenn? and yours too Carol, any advancement?
Karen, how are you and Kate?
jenn, hope surgery went well for you.
Tanya, that cellulitis terrible, very painful too, hope it gets better very quick

Annette the bone scan isn't too bad.
I can't remember properly which one is which - I've had four (or so) MUGA scans done to check my heart while I was on Herceptin, and that involves the radioactive tracer too. I think with the bone scan they pretty much inject the tracer in and then you come back a little while later and they scan you. It's the MUGA scan where it's more complicated and they leave a canula in so that they can take some blood, mix it with a "sticking agent" then put that back into you and you wait around 15 minutes or so and then they inject the tracer.
Someone else can verify that hopefully.
So - I *think* for the bone scan, you just get injected with the tracer, and then come back after a while (an hour or so??) and they scan you - so no canula needed.Aly - forgot to mention how sorry I was to hear about your DB - hope he is doing ok?

Tanya, i am an egg, it was your arm you were in hoapital for, i thought it was the cellulitis. sorry, i did not read it properly, but because of your cellulitis history you have to have continuous anti- B's. yea that's not good long term either, but better than all that infection. what is streaky arm? obviously some infection, you poor lady, you have been thru the mill. but yes you had tennis to look at. lol Chrissy will have to feast her eyes on another sport, now tennis is gone, she loves her tennis that dear lady. dont; mind some of it, but i rather look at a story or movie, it becomes like watching paint dry, i would sooner be playing it, lol what laugh , i would miss the ball all the time.

Lol Annette I am going through tennis withdrawals.........lol.
Your bone scan is a piece of cake........yes you do need a canula in the hand and they inject a radioactive isotope..........then you wait about three hours so your bones can take it up and then go back for the scan it self and that is easy as you just lay there. When the radiologist reads the scan he looks at where the isotopes have gathered. It will show arthritis as well as any BC. I've had heaps of them. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's the something else.
Trish glad to hear your appointment is soon and yes do mention your thoughts on the appendix you just never know. SIL and I will be in Canberra 25 th through to 1st DB birthday is 26 so we will have to work out a time and day to meet up for either coffee or lunch......or both on the same day so we can yak more........lol. Can't wait!
Sitting in the aircon working on my blanket.......am I nuts or what?!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy how about you and your SIL come to my place for lunch? If we do that, the best day for me would be Friday the 28th as it's my day off :-) Hopefully that will work for you both. I have a wedding that afternoon and early evening though - but I won't have to leave home till around 2.30 or so. If that day's no good, then any of the other days will work if you both want to come to my place for dinner Do you know what suburb you'll be staying in?
Oh - and I loved the tennis too - we watched most of it, and what a match the men's finals were. I was a bit cheezed off with Rafa to start with, but then once we realised he was in real pain, was torn. Wanted him to win as he was playing on with such bravery, but wanted Stan to win as his was a fairytale come true for him. I mainly just wanted to give Rafa a big hug lol.

Trish, my brother is in Nicholls.........is that reasonably close to you? The 28th sounds fine with me and lunch at your place sounds really good......lol......I can check out your kitchen....hahahahaha! My SIL may or may not want to come with me but I will let you know for sure a little closer if you wouldn't mind.
Finding my way to your place should be easy enough as I have maps on my phone which will give me street by street directions. I've got your mobile number but will need to get your address........if you could SMS it to me I will then store it in my phone.
Yeah, felt a bit the same way about Rafa but really glad for Stan as this will forever change his life.......he deserved it as he played so well the whole tournament.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy - Nicholls is at the other end of the earth to me lol! In Canberra there's a huge divide between the southern side of Canberra and the northern side - Nicholls is in the north and I'm in the south, sometimes the two separate areas have huge turf wars not really, but it seems like it sometimes lol.
I'll SMS my address to you - it's pretty easy to find and your brother's place is probably a good 25 mintues to half hour drive to my place. And yes - letting me know closer to the time is fine.

Trish, got the SMS, thanks. Twenty five to thirty mins isn't a problem and I promise not to tell my bro where I'm going........hahahahaha!

Thanks girls. why cant they just leave canula in from my op and then i wont need to go thru the pain of them sticking it in again, its only from the day before. (my veins will probably clam up in disgust),( OH No what are they going to do this time, they always jaming me with painful needles (they will be saying). mine do sometimes, clam up and its hard to get the thing into a vein and if you get a rough nurse and man, it aint pleasent.
0 -
I hear you on the rough nurses but I will say that the young man I had do a canula for me when I had my MRI was so gentle I literally didn't feel a thing! I wanted to pack him up and carry him with me for when I needed another one done as it usually takes at least three jabs before they get a vein big enough or doesn't collapse! I'll be thinking of you when the time comes and hoping you get a good gentle one to do it for you.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Midnight, you will be fine with your bone scan. I wish other scans were as easy as that. Just a waste of most of the day... lol. (good luck anyway)
Jennifer, thinking of you today. I know that the nipple will look just like the real Mccoy hehe.
Alyson, I hope that your brother is on the mend, as it must be very worrying for you. Keep us posted.
My lymphoedema also flared up just over a week ago, and I went to the local Cancer Support Meeting last Friday afternoon when a couple of the girls there pointed out that I had cellulitis due to the redness in my arm. I was lucky to see the local doctor who was surprised that I didn't have a temperature. I told him I feel just fine but thought that I had better get my arm looked at. He put me on antibiotics straight away and told me that if it got any worse to go straight to hospital. Well, the antibiotics are working even though I have to take them for at least 14 days. I see my Physiotherapist this Friday for the lymphoedema and I am seriously looking at going swimming in the local pool again as that worked last time.
I saw my oncologist today and the tumor markers are down to 33 Yay!! CT scan of abdomen and neck in 6 weeks time, so I am so very lucky that Xeloda is still working for me. I have been on Xeloda since November 2012 which is quite a long time, and I just thank my lucky stars every day.
Tomorrow, I take mum shopping in the morning and then I am off to pick up the 2 grand daughters (3 years old and 13 months old) from childcare at 3pm. Then back to their place. My son will come home early and help with tea and I will bath the girls while he does the dishes ( I get the better job lol). Then I will leave about 7.30pm and leave him to it. The younger granddaughter is still breast fed twice a day and Mum will be home about 8pm and I am sure that he can manage for half an hour or so as it is an hour's drive before I get home.
Chrissy, have a great time in Canberra. my son lived there for a few years, and I always got lost driving around Canberra. I reckon that all the roads just go around in circles lol.
Trish, I hope that you are feeling OK and I hope that you get an answer to your pain and discomfort. I promise to put a photo of Olivia with the tea set soon. She loves it. I fill it halfway with water, and she just drinks and drinks and I keep refilling the teapot (coffee pot) and then she has to make lots of visits to the toilet. I should take a video now I think of it. What a hoot. xxx
I read the posts almost every day and I am sorry if I missed anyone. I hope everyone is doing well.
Warm hugs
Mandy xxx

The Federal government has extended the free mammograms to women in their late 60s to early 70s, it was extended by 5 years. Don't know why women under 50 are not just as important in their eyes. Too many 40 something women are overlooked.....

Mandy, lovely to hear from you. Good to read that you are getting the treatment you need :-)
Annette, I hope you get a good result from the bone scan...
Renae, I wasn't aware of the change. It would be interesting to know the reasons behind it.
Trish, glad you're feeling better.
No real news from me....just more hard work!

yes chrissy, i have has a couple of guys do a blood test on me and you cant even feel the needle go in. very gentle. maybe they have been brought up to be gentle on women and so they are. i was old enough to be his mother, and that is philosophy they take, this could be my mum. so they take care to be gentle. that's my philosphy and i am sticking to it. lol. well i am dry as and need a good cup of tea, mandy hope that cellulitis gets better very soon. i am going to gym today, they do gentle exersises, but its been helping me and then when i finish the gym after feb, i am going to join the gym at the warm pool and swim, maybe easy on my bones. i know a hot shower is lovely on the body. yummy. catch yas soon. hope all the ladies are ok. jenn how are you after your op.?

Trish I just checked the forecast for the weekend here, 43 Saturday and 45 Sunday........guess where I'll be?.......yup you got it, inside in the air con! Hopefully the cool change will come through as predicted late Sunday and we'll get the 28 forecast for Monday!
Mandy you take it easy in the heat! I know you say that all the running around keeps you going but at some point you need to slow down even if it's just a little bit!
Annette I have to go back to the heated pool for exercise as well but I have to travel 40ks each way and I just refuse to do that in 40+ heat! Hope yours goes well.
Karen, it looks like you had a whole heap of fun in Sydney with the girls.......hope you are recovering well.....lol.
Tammy take it easy girl, there is always tomorrow!
I just read on FB that Jenn is home recovering and is a bit sore and sorry right now.
Hope everyone else is doing okay and staying cooooool.

Hey all,
I spent yesterday taking pain meds and hibernating with my book. Everytime I have surgery I come out emotionally screwed up and it takes a few days to get back to normal. Not helped by my family I'm afraid... They have seen me go through so many surgeries in the past couple of years they just get on as normal. No flowers or special meals for me I'm afraid. Son didn't even come home for two days from work and his girlfriend's place. When he did get home last night he wandered into our bedroom and said "are you not feeling well?" - doof!
The most pain is from my hip where the surgeon took a chunk of skin from my previous abdominal scar to graft to create new areolas. My breasts themselves don't hurt since there's no nerves in that skin.
Go back to the surgeon to get all the bandaging off next Thursday. Wish I'd done this in winter instead of during the height of summer as I am going to be challenged back at work from Monday trying to find shirts to hide the big square of foam padding on each breast. Since noone at work knows about the breast cancer thing I just told them i needed a surgical procedure without telling them what it was...

Yea girls, I'm recovering although still quite tired & sore. Getting better each day.......it's amazing how much it takes out of you!! Yesterday I had lunch with some rellies that are over from England & I came home & slept till 7.00 pm!!!
Had my scans yesterday (I think I told you all the Epirubicin aka Red Devil wasn't working & my tumour markers doubled) & today I have the onc, the new chemo & an appointment with the Radiology Oncologist re Whole Brain Radiation......sigh. I'm a bit over it all but I'll keep fighting, it just such hard work!!!
I've read all your posts & sorry, but I don't have time to reply to all.....gotta go get showered, dressed etc.
Have a good day lovely ladies.
(((Hugs)))

Jenn because it's hot do you have something like a tent dress that you could wear to work? They have a tendency to hide everything!
Oh Karen, I must have missed your post saying the red devil wasn't working.........bugger!.......good luck with your onc visit. Here's hoping the new chemo kicks butt! Good luck with the rads onc as well. From what I have read the WBR is a little daunting but does good things. Always thinking of you, take care and rest up..........not long now till the bump arrives in all his glory!
My DD and SIL took possession of their fur baby last weekend, she is a pitch black long haired Alsatian, eight weeks old and full of beans.......she is gorgeous and we are all in love. This is her catching a few ZZZZZs after keeping her new parents awake most of the night!
I think she has some growing to do as the size of her feet sort of indicate that.........lol. Apparently she will be between 25 and 30 kilos when fully grown........sure hope they teach her to be gentle as she could easily knock a person over.
Hiding inside again as it's hot, hot, hot outside and forecast for even hotter for the next three days!......YUK!!! Hope my air con keeps running!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Wishing everyone well, especially Jenn, Kazzie, Kate and Mandy. Thinking of y'all.
Hi too to Chrissy, Trish, Tammy, Kylie, Lyndal, Sue, Midnight and everyone else!

Well girls.....the onc appointment was quite confronting.
The liver mets are running rampant! There are around 20 of them now & my liver function is up. He was extremely concerned & gentle & I really couldn't help thinking I'm on the way out....... We started a new chemo today so fingers crossed my liver can handle it (Navelbine) & it can at least stop the beast spreading. He said he wants to attack it full on so I will be having it every week.....providing my liver can handle it.
The radiology onc appointment was cancelled as she was sick - go figure, doctors get sick! - & it has been re scheduled for the 11th feb.
Chrissy......I love the new addition to the family, she will bring so much joy.
Racy.....thanks for your good wishes.
Jenn....hope you're feeling ok, just tell the family you're sore & tired & can't do anything!!!
And to everyone else, take care.
Take care all.

Chtissy, what is the name of the little big doggy, what a sweetiie.
Karen, i am really sorry for what you going thru, really hope this chemo works and gets you back in good steed. and knocks this cancer back.
Jenn, hope you feeling better.
Racy Hi.
I had my surgery today, i dont know results yet, but have bad cramps tonight. i dont know whether they found anything or not but i will find out histology results in a few days, what are they? is that the cells etc? i have bone scan tomorrow. lucky that the main anethatist put my hand port thing in and like you had chrissy, i never felt it. lol he said, to his helper he wanted to see what i looked like on the table to enable a decision on his method of aneathatising me i guess. lol i said, I wont change too much, i shall still be radiant. my surgeon was talking to another patient he was doing todaymust of been listening, and laughed out very loud, and said i love nothing more than self confident women, gave me thumbs up and said, you are very smart and quick witted. lol. i did not realise he was still in the room, he went, and must of come back. he is so lovely and his bedside manner is very nice. jovial type of person, certainly relaxing for a person he is about to operate on. well i better go back to bed, my back was sore anf tummy and needed to sit for a while as i have spent most of day laying on my bed very dopey.
