I did the baby oil and iodine thing and was envied by my friends for being the bronze beauty. Now I'm working on reversing the sun damage on my face. Having said that, today is my last day in Mexico and I've been slathering coconut oil on my legs to hydrate and tan. Haven't spent full days basking, but it sure feels good to get some color -especially when there's a snow storm on the east coast at home:-). Daiva

I, too tanned very easily when I was younger...never burned so I thought I'd be ok. Now it has definitely caught up w/ me. My skin is so sensitive and I still get a little pink, even w/ SPF 50+

I just came inside from helping my husband & kids shovel the driveway (another FOOT of snow!) and I put a layer of coconut oil on my face to protect from the cold...love that stuff :)

I bought the Eucerin on the advice of my physical therapist for my lymphedema arm.  He said it would keep the skin moisterized and keep it from getting dry and cracking.  I still have 90% of the bottle sitting on the dresser.  I would much prefer lubriderm.  Eucerin is extremely greasy.  I guess that is why they like it for lymphedema.

What were we thinking putting iodine in the baby oil.  I have always lived in the south and did my fair share of sun bathing.  Unfortunatly I have always been fair skinned and burned quite easily and my skin is paying for it now.  Now I only use SPF50 for babies and tons of coconut oil on my legs etc.  I guess the only thing that saved my skin on my face was the zinc oxide we thought was cool and then it started coming out in colors......yuk

    Wenweb.....

One of my friends is Stage IV controlled by aromatase inhibitors.  She is now in her mid 50s and her skin looks fabulous!  Of course, she sells skincare for a living.

She has to be on AIs for the rest of her life (obviously).  She was on Tamoxifen prior to AIs, but I think now well past the 5 year mark on AIs.  She is past the 10 year mark with Stage IV.

Spoke to her yesterday, and she is just fine.  So very grateful for that, but wanted to mention her specifically regarding the message that being on AIs doesn't mean that your skin shirvels up.  Mine has a finer texture now, but I wouldn't say I look "old".

Of course, I could be deluding myself Laughing

for constipation buy some 'Colac'e (pills) at the drug store; that is what the nurses told me to use when I had problems after surgery (YEOUCH!) and they worked.

Colace is a stool softener. There's no point trying to get something out the size of a brick without breaking it up first! Also, sennokat laxative is natural and non-addictive for your body. I use both.

Prunes are not only good for that but also reduce the risk of colon cancer.

Pitted Prunes to the rescue!  Moistened with lemon juice & water, microwaved for a few seconds - til moist ( they work faster) - and enjoy.  Prunes are supposed to be good for our bones too.

Yup, western MA is snowy - but not nearly as bad as the coast - whew....nice to be near the mountains:)

Thanks for the reassuring story of your friend.  I think we are all our own worst enemies when it comes to our looks, especially our faces!!

Traditional Medicinals Smooth Move Tea is my favorite... Oh, and glycerin suppositories! Yes, not a fun conversation, but when you have a lot of narcotics in your system from surgery and pain control - everything binds up! It is terrible.

No kidding, Nordy! When I was on chemo I forgot to take a dose or 2 of colace and boy did I regret it! I'd rather give birth again :)

I'm the stress CD person; I sent one to my stressed out sister and it works for her too!! Very strange and wonderful. I ordered myself a second copy in case something would happen to mine.

Here is a recipe so good and so sinful that you will forgot about everything else.

It's called 'Chocolate Stuff' and is from the book 'The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love'.

Beat 2 eggs with a cup of sugar & 1/2 cup flour. Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

In the microwave melt one stick of real butter and 2 heaping tablespoons of Hersey's cocoa (regular Hersey's in the dark brown box).

Dump the butter/cocoa mixture into the other things & stir it well. Add a running-over teaspoon of vanilla. Stir it in. If you want to add nuts, use a whole bunch of pecans, chopped up fine.

Pour the Stuff into aa greased loaf pan, set the loaf pan in a pan of water & put in a 300 degrees oven. Cook for 40 to 50 minutes. Tap it at 40 minutes. If the top seems crunchy take it out.

You can put some whipped cream over the top if you want to be really, really bad when serving it!!!

    Lol Barb! So right!

Iago, I agree. Definitely need to start eating the coconut oil, too! I just hope that years from now they don't link coconut oil to some other cancer or deadly disease, because I would be doomed. I slop that stuff all over me every day (sometimes twice a day!). I'm an addict.

Do I need to get the coconut oil at Whole Foods or a health food store?  We don't have a Whole Foods here....Help...

I got mine at the Nature's Unlimited (Organic section of our grocery store). Any health food store should have it if Whole Foods isn't an option.

The coconut oil I bought (Spectrum) has a temperature recommendation on it for cooking.  I was listening to Dr. Oz yesterday when I heard coconut oil which quickly got my attention.  They were saying to eat 1 T per day.  I am sure they would assume one would cook with it, but in the back of my mind I was actually thinking of eating it off of a tablespoon!!  They also did a demonstration that showed how animal fat gets thick and lumpy in the blood, but coconut oil mixes right in, meaning it's really good for you.  This of course is the latest data.  I remember in the 70's that coconut oil was a no no because it was a ? transfat.  I can't quite remember.  It might be prepared differently now, but it's the latest rave and to think it all started here Wink  Oh, they also recommended using on the skin.

I would use coconut oil, too, but the smell makes me hungry. I use argan oil instead, which I don' t associate with food.

Stephanie, i'll try taking your advice!!! Out with the old and in with the new! This cancer has got to be good for something. A new wardrobe, yay!
