JB - I should probably change it. It's confusing to me, because they told me I had DCIS, Stage 0. But when I questioned the need to take Tamoxifen with the Onc, she said - no, you're Stage 1 because you had a micro-invasion. She didn't clarify if that meant I was IDC instead of DCIS, but she said there's cancer cells floating around that need to be monitored. If that means I'm IDC, I'll change my tagline.

    Marybe,

I love MORE magazine! I have a subscription, and I think it is a very thoughtful, well-written magazine.

As for the Botox fear? Yes, I had it as well, UNTIL I finally tried it. I got so tired of my lines between my eyes, and my husband always asking me why I was angry. I don't have a frozen face, or anything plastic, I just look like I have had a really, really great night of sleep. I'm certain no one could tell that I've had it, since I still have a lot of movement in my face. I just don't have the fork between my eyes anymore, or the deep creases in my forehead! Lines, yes, deep ones, No!

Oh no, the diagnosis police are out!

I also have the line between the eyes.  I want to get the B but admit I'm afraid.  What if it's not done right?  How do you  select the right provider to do it?

Any of you hear about the plastic mouthpiece called Angel wings I think.Wear it for 30min every day and it lessens the frown lines and lip wrinkles.I was thinking about purchasing them.

mymountain Make sure that you go to an MD that is either a dermatologist or ophthalmologist.  Personally I would choose an ophthalmologist because they also administer Botox in cases where it is considered medically necessary.  I work for one and she is tops.

    mymountain,

I go to a dermatologist for mine. She knows that I am very conservative, so she doesn't give me a huge dose-- she just gives enough to take the "edge off" of the lines. Now, I have seen B administered incorrectly, and it's not pretty. However, my derm is great at it, and gives it to herself as well. She is a mother of 3 small kids, and is a very natural looking woman.

I did see a botched up job once, and it did give me a giggle-- a woman in our neighborhood who isn't particularly nice had a droopy eye from incorrectly administered B. It was pretty obvious she'd had a B shot, and her droopy eye lasted about 6 months.

I am so far behind on this thread, so I am adding my 2 cents as I go... LOL...

Hair products: Nioxin works GREAT and smells fabulous. I use system 3 for color treated hair and it smells and feels fabulous. It is one of the things that I actually use that is not an "all natural" product, but I alternate it with organix hair products or Burt's Bees (but neither of them ever seem to really get my hair clean) so I don't feel so bad. You can get it in salons or places like Trade Secret and Beauty First. It is not cheap though!

    Facial sunscreen without parabens:

Murad (one of very few of his products without sunscreen): Essential C- Day moisture spf 30

Yes to Carrots makes a spf 30 moisturizer, but I think it is more for the body than the face...

Hydropeptide Anti aging SPF Daycream Sunscreen (30 SPF and smells delicious)

Okay. Whew! That was lots of reading.

Marybe - (((((((hugs)))))) wishing you well in your new chemo regimen. I'm sorry you are going to be losing your hair again! That is so hard - but you are beautiful, you know this right?

Barbe - Beautiful picture of you. Beautiful family.

Okay. I have been wanting to get on here because: "My name is Nordy and I am a product JUNKIE!" BUT, I have stumbled across a product that I am absolutely in love with. I went into Beauty First looking for a glycolic acid a couple weeks ago and a sales lady recommended this line of products. I am absolutely in love with what I am using. It has brought back a glow that has been long gone AND helped firm up my "jowel" line (not completely, but better). The first time I noticed the difference was after about 3 applications - I was walking past a mirror and when I looked up I saw the former "me" for the first time in years. The products are paraben and pthalate free. The line is Hydropeptide. I am not using the whole line, just the Instant Lift and Peel System - and I only use it twice a week. I did a peel on my sister while she was here last week and the next day we were out buying her the same system. I love love love this product! I can't vouch for the rest of the line because I haven't used it, but (obviously) I love what I have used. It is not cheap either, I think around 150 on the website, but at Beauty First they have it for $118 and I had a $30 coupon, so that helped. I figure considering that you get 5 products in the kit, it is a really good deal. Anyway, I had tried the vitamin C kit by Murad several months ago and it did not do a thing, but this product works. It is amazing. I have a drawer full of so many products: Origins, Murad, CSI, Obagi, Yes to Carrots... and this product is the only one (besides coconut oil) that has really made a huge difference in my skin! I LOVE it... (okay, gushing over here and probably should stop since i think I may be sounding like an info-mercial)!!! I am going to find the link to the website in case anyone wants to check it out.

  • DREAM & REDEEM from American Express apps.facebook.com Check out my photo at the Memorable Miles photo contest from American Express. Vote for my entry and help me win 100,000 miles!

OK, ladies, a non BC related request and I won't bug you any more after tomorrow at 11:59 PM....I am in this contest to win miles....I will not win, but I am up to 23rd place and am pretty proud of that....all you need to do is click on dream and redeem and then a page comes up that will be facebook and if you wait a sec a pic comes up on the memorable miles page and it is a picture of me with my friend Kathy when I went to MDAnderson, post chemo hair( I am going to lose it again on this chemo, but so far so good) ....all you have to do is click on the red VOTE box....it will say thank you for voting....but then again you probably have to use your facebook login , then it will tell you thanks for your vote.  If you are not on FB, maybe  you know someone who is.  This is petty I know compared to cancer and the SEs, but I like to concentrate on the little things and honestly think doing the everyday life things are what has kept me going for so long.  You can vote today and again tomorrow and then it's over and then perhaps I will go back to worrying about how this new chemo is going to age me even more.  In the meantime I am having a good time fixating on this contest.  Thank you so much.   Marybe

  • My keyboard  has quite a few hairs on it tonight and they are not from the dogs or the cat!!!  I am going to be afraid to use any of my silver shampoos tomorrow for fear of what I will see in the drain.  Two weeks to the day since starting the new chemo.

Ignore the above request.  I came in #16 in the contest which I feel pretty good about considering I got a very late start and there were something like 3000 entries.  I appreciate all the help I got from the BCO threads.

I guess I just don't think it's necessary to spend big bucks to look pretty (and I think $450 - $1100 is big bucks considering it's cosmetic).   I have known many beautiful women (some had illnesses, some didn't), many single moms and working singles who could never spend that kind of money - but they were still beautiful.

I really think if you take care of yourself, eat healthy and have peace in your life, you will be radiant.   I truly believe that.

MaryB, I would be afraid of Botox, too.   If I was going to use something, I would use a filler, not a paralytic.

Well I started using my Nioxin today.  Sure hope it works.  My hair has been thinning since being on Tamox for the last three months. I have very thin hair to begin with so not much there to spair.

I believe beauty comes from a happy soul. You can have all sorts of bad things going on in your life, but if your soul is at peace, it shines through.

Ok. I heard with the taxotere chemo fx that I need to be aware if my nails. I found that the top speed reckon nail polish I'd great. What has deterred me in the past from painting my nails has been the time it takes to dry and I really like the shine that this polish has. Since losing my hair, I feel a little blue, so it is nice to look down at my hands and see the touch of color on my finger tips.

Polish your toenails too. I think polish helps keep the nails stronger during chemo.

edited to add the reason I think so is that I polished my fingernails during chemo but not my toenails; my fingernails were fine but toenails got funky. My cousin did the opposite; polished her toenails but not her fingernails. Her toenails were fine, fingernails...not so good.

You might have a medical breakthrough there Ruth....bet your onc wouldn't believe you though!!

I just returned from a haircut - I told her it was behaving oddly.  She said that it is very similar as to when I was doing chemo - baby fine.  I am not losing, but I am thinning.  Not sure if I should thank BC or Arimidex.

A few pages back, there was some commentary on fish oil.  I want to let you know that there is a 100% pure pharmaceutical grade salmon oil now available in Costco.  It is called Pure Alaska Omega - 100% Natural Omega-3 Wild Salmon Oil.  Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin and Mercury Free.  Just thought you might like to know.  You can read about it at alaskaproteinrecovery.com.

  •     This is me real bald..2009..not too cute in my opinion, think I look sort of like an alien. I was lucky in that it grew back pretty fast.  I don't know if polish helps the nails or not, but if there is a possiblity it will, DO IT!  Mine were terrible....toenails worse than fingernails since some of them came off completely and the orthopedic doc took them off my big toes because they were infected and hurt to touch. They actually felt better once they came off.  They still are not normal, but I do not think this is common....know Lago's got quite bad, but again I do not think we were typical and got it worse than most. Halaven does not do anything to your nails so I have that going for me this time.  Barbe, you got that one right about doubting if the onco would believe it.....mine does a great job keeping me going, but he does not believe one thing I tell him that I learn from the message boards...just get that look over the glasses that reads, You really expect me to buy that?

Marybe, you do not look that bad bald! I, on the other hand, looked liked a convicted felon!!!!!

  • Clyn, Have you gone to one of those Look Good, Feel Better things like I am going to on Monday.  Lots of times there are makeup stations at the dept stores offering free makeovers and they can target a certain problem like dark circles.  I used to like to go for those, but of course would go back home and wipe it all off.  I hope your sleep patterns improve and you get your happy self back soon.

Marybe, your smile shines through with the "bald you". I think when we can, that a bit of colour on our faces and maybe a bit of earring bling helps the whole picture. Of course there are times when I LLIKE how sick I look because I find they really listen. When I go in looking great, they blow me off. I have very dark circles, but now just use the same light foundation that I use all over my face, then dab with powder. Otherwise I look owly. Took years to perfect the look, but it's worth it.

I get a treat for every (almost) test I have to do, but definitely for every surgery. Usually the hospital has ladies selling jewelery in the atrium and my DH let's me pick out a bauble or two!! A grown up woman's version of a lollipop I guess....
