I read the Nora Ephram book on necks...lolol.. did make me laugh for sure! No turtlenecks for me!!!
I love clothes, shopping for anything at anytime,, shoes.. have a decent style since I was a kid. I know I am up to date on that part of my life and always will be as long as I can!!! I just think it is my desire for the balance within for lack of hormones, sleep and being ok with the way I have aged. it is ok for today.. I excercise, drink lots of water and work with kids..which keeps me young in spirit!!!
I also ordered some homeopatic for sleeping..hightly recommended .Moon Drops? What the heck, may be it will put me in a another planet for the night!!!!
I alos think we are our worse critic as it comes to our faces!!!WE are doin ALL that we can, and for now, it is enough. BUT.. if there is ever a non evasive face lift.. and low $$..sign me up..;lol!!!
Thanks all for your great comments!!!

I found that chemo has darkened all the major veins so now I have to wear makeup especially for bad undereye circles.I feel okay but without makeup I still look sick.0

Donna:
I agree with you that we are our worst critics especially when it comes to our faces. I have what I consider to be fairly deep smile parentheses, and yet if I mention it to anyone they will always say "oh, I didn't notice". It's familial, but oh well.
I liked Nora Ephram's book too, and I do feel bad about my neck.

I found coconut oil at Walmart in with the crisco, cooking oils etc.

Hi gals; I've always looked about 10 years younger than my age but now I think I look it!
However, for what it's worth....neutrogena healthy skin is amazing. I have always used it and I am used to people saying I cannot possibly be this old (sure I can, and now I look it)
I think it's stress, more than anything else. I had tamoxifen for 5 years, and still looked fine. I do see some lines (never had any at 55) now, but hell, I've earned them!
Barbe, you are one gorgeous cookie for 52. I thought you were in y our early 30s!!!!!!!!!!!!
Parabens won't hurt us ladies. Oncs said it's not anywhere near enough, you'd have to literally eat it by spoonfuls. I'm sticking with my neutrogena .

Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation does not have parabens in it.
I do disagree on the parabens not hurting us - they have done studies where they have found all forms of parabens (ethylparaben, methylparaben, isobutylparaben...etc.) in the bloodstreams of women... but like I have said before, we all make our own choices for what we choose to change; what we choose to use or not to use. Everyone has something that they are willing to "give" on, but others where they do not. I won't give to parabens, but I use a phytoestrogen cream... LOL... We all do what makes us feel best at our comfort level!

lago - I agree with your post about if you look like sh#$%...I worked through chemo so I got dressed up and put on make up every day. The last thing I wanted was someone to say I looked "sick". I never considered myself "sick". Yes, I had days when I didn't feel good but I still tried to look good. I really didn't like seeing myself bald, lashless and browless, so I was quick to get my make-up on every day, I had good wigs that I wore to work M-F but I had several cute jersey scarves from Old Navy that I wore turban style on weekends.
I use the Cetaphil cleanser, too. I haven't checked the ingredients for parabens but I like that it is creamy, mild and takes off eye makeup well. I used to use the Cetaphil daily moisturizer but recently switced to Yes to Carrots, which has no parabens. Gina

Could you imagine if we all got together...Not only would our skin look fabulous but we would smell like such a lovely bunch of coconuts0
-
For those that use the coconut oil - Do you use it for wrinkles or sagging skin? I know some of you use it for dry skin also. Also, does it help with scars?

OK, so I looked at some coconut oil, it says it should be refrigerated after it is opened, anyone doing that or just leave it out? I hate to imagine rancid oil on my face, I may not be brave enough to try on my face anyway! Although chemo seems to have killed all my zits, hopefully forever!

Hi! I just saw that we can now post from iPhone/ipad, so I'm testing it out!
I was using Argan Oil for everything and was happy w/ it but decided to give coconut oil a try. So far I like it for the face and cuticles (and is much cheaper than Argan oil). I run the jar under hot water
for a few seconds and it melts just enough. I got mine in the organic section of the food store. It's a 14oz jar (Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil) and cost $8.59 I think). I would imagine this jar will last a long time!
Question, though... Some of you mentioned the wonderful smell of it. Mine doesn't have a smell at all! Maybe it depends on the brand?

Thats funny, mine deffinately has a sweet smell. I feel like a dessert when I first put it on. The smell mellows out after a few minutes. I like it though. I feel like I'm applying that old fashioned Hawiian Tropic oil before a day on the beach! Caerun, you made me lol!

Ooohhh I wish mine smelled like Hawaiian Tropic! Memories!

I wish I WERE in the Hawaiian tropics; now that would definitely de-age me!!!

I bought the Spectrum brand as well and was surprised that it didn't have the smell that many commented on. I still like it!!
Caerus: I also liked The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I could totally picture Renee slathering herself in coconut oil at night. Have Pettigrew's Last Stand on my to read list.

I guess I really don't need the delicious coconut smell...frankly, baking in the sun for years w/ coconut-smelling oil is what got my face into trouble in the first place, right? When I finish this jar, maybe I'll try another brand. Those of you w/ the good-smelling kind, what brands do you have?

I use Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I like it but be prepared to smell like a macaroon! Caerus was asking what it meant to be a virgin coconut so I have to laugh because mine is an extra virgin. That must have been one innocent coconut.

Since I'm leaving for Hawaii tomorrow morning, I guess I need to by Whole foods Coconut oil0

How fantastic to find this thread! I am in my late 40s and have always been told I look more like 30s. Now...not so good. I have put on 10kg since this started and thought I was 5kgs too heavy then. I feel like an oompa loompa! No eyebrows, no hair. I have been very slack with exercise as I don't want to be seen without my wig and I live in Australia so it's summer...can hardly go for a walk or a run with a wig on! Desperately want my hair to come back enough that I can go to the gym or whatever. I am abour 6 weeks post chemo but still seem to be piling on the kgs but dont' know why? Can I still be having fluid issues? As for botox, I used to do it ...love it and will be heading back for more. I kind of feel I would like to blossom and lose the weight, get my hair back and lose the wrinkles all at once. that woudl be a nice feeling!

I have the Spectrum coconut oil from Whole Foods as well. I think the reason I bought it in the first place is because I was walking through the store with my daughter (who was an infant at the time) in her car seat in the seat part of the cart... hard to see around. And I was looking up at things on the shelves - totally did not see a FULL display of glass jars of coconut oil... Bet you can guess what happened next. I was mortified. Probably broke 20 jars. I figured I had better at least buy ONE since they were cleaning up the rest and telling me it was okay! Another lady saw it happen and just started laughing. OMG... LOL!
Okay, I rotate products in my arsenal... and try to remember which ones I like so that I can buy them again. Here are a couple things that I can't live without (besides the coconut oil):
Mychelle brand Magnolia Fresh Eyes - must be used with an eye cream, but works for me to decrease puffiness and brighten eyes. My girlfriend doesn't like it because it has some caffeine in it and she is very sensitive to that... but it works GREAT for me!
Source Naturals Skin Eternal Cream - I alternate this out with the coconut oil. I love this as a night cream. It smells delicious and gives my skin a little "oomph"!
Avalon Organics Essential Lift - this is a firming moisturizer with spf 15 (zinc oxide - so a good barrier sun screen instead of a chemical form). If you use this - I suggest using a serum underneath, because it tends to leave your skin a little dry (despite that it is supposed to be a moisturizer.. Maybe it is the zinc oxide) Anyway, I like it because I really do feel like it firms things up a bit! I don't think it would be good for very dry skin or those that have a lot of wrinkles - I think it is better for the saggy skin with few wrinkles (aka: me!).
Just my 2 cents... LOL... like I have never bothered giving THAT before!

I have noticed more wirnkles in my face since cancer diagnosis. I use a Japanese facial massage technique and it seems to help. There is a wonderful book by Chizu Saeki on amazon that might help you. I also use SK II (expensive) for my skin. Perhaps Jevrederm or Restalain would help? The massage takes about 3 months before you see results, so if you stick with it it is well worth it.

My teenage girls and I are all addicted to coconut oil now-for both hair and body. My face drinks it up. I started Obagi skin care a week or two before Christmas and it's really helping my skin look fresh. I haven't checked if it has parabens yet but it's looking much less dull and I've gotten compliments. Crest whitestrips are a girls best friend as well! Love flashing my pearly whites...my friends are jealous. I love this thread! It made me want to pull myself together yesterday and put my best foot forward. Thanks for all the great tips. Btw...drink lots of water and stay hydrated. Happy Wednesday! -Daiva

Howdy all - Everyone here is all correct, hydration, coconut oil, shea butter (my best friend), spa treatments, calmness, reading, time for yourself, long bubble baths, water spritzers with fruit, healthy snacks, coloring your hair, fresh make over and up to date looks, haircuts, yes when those locks start comming in and for some of us it took steps because my hair went thru major changes within a year and one half, clothes, trash all the OLD things you haven't touched or bothered to wear in years or have been hidden in your closet, update it all, out with the old in with the NEW!!!! Start today....and be happy and have fun with it! :-)

I use Jarrow extra virgin vegan organic coconut oil. It has a faint coconut smell that quickly dissipates.

Nordy - Where do you buy the Avalon Organics Essential Lift? I think I would really like to try it.

Crest Whitestrips don't work for me!!! I've tried them THREE times. My DH says maybe you have to have white teeth to start? I don't smoke or drink, my only vice is tea, but with milk, not black. What can I do?0
