VR - Now that really sucks. Some doctors don't have a clue what they put us through. They just want to be able to bill the insurance and collect their money. Hope you rested after you got home.
badger - It is good to be home. I just have to make myself take it easy which is hard for me as I am always on the go.

Ya know, Jo...keeping both of us vertical and on the go is a full time job! Last month we had the DH's annual check up in Pittsburgh (a few days before my flight to my infamous trip to Austin). We flew down in the morning, as we always do, and flew home in the late afternoon. The trip by plane to Pittsburgh and back for the day was easier and less stressful than the local trip to the cardiologist in the hospital. Go figure!
I can't be mad at the doctor. He really is quite a modest, sincere and dedicated physician. The only problem is I get cranky when I don't feel well....and after not feeling well with my shoulder and now THIS with my damn foot.... I guess I have to throw some of my crankiness into the fire.....
Hope you're feeling better today!!!!!!! Could it be too much to ask that we all feel much better quickly??????

VR - taking care of ourselves should not be this tiring! I will wait - somewhat patiently - for a GOOD doctor who takes time for ME. Jerks go on the fire. I was ready to fire my PCP for his selective hearing and general lack of interest in my concerns, but my DH saw his new NP, and I talked to her also and was impressed, so I'll give her a shot. My insurance has a new wellness exam requirement (results in lower rates/deductibles), so I decided to see her instead. Other than BC and autoimmune thyroid, I have no ongoing health problems that interest my PCP. I don't even get colds! The BC gets everyone's attention, tho - even the dentist.0

VR - You are right - it should not be this hard to stay healthy. I am feeling a bit better today but really have to watch how much I do. Not quite up to my normal routine. I can already tell I am going to need a nap later this afternoon.

jo...I'm so happy you are posting and home.
Sometimes we think we are healed in few days because we have no pain...
I learned that couple of weeks after I was finished with radiation...got on my knees and clean the kitchen floor......Radiated area was in so much pain I had to go and have an Xray nothing was broken but I was politely told not to do those type of motions for a while.
Hugs to you from rainy NY ♥

All- still can't read well so your posts are pretty blurry. Typing is still and issue. But it's working incision happy.
So, Jo I had an intention in our novena for you.
Vr---in trying to decipher your post, all I kept thinking was "leg Swlling" That's what the throbbing says.AMD it's mafe worse by plaster casts that don't expand. The newer cast brases have a bit of room for swelling.. Everywhere you go pull a chair up and elevate. Then at hone elevate above heart level with knee supported. Ask doc if okay AND can you do foot pumps toes to nose then ballet point-------very serious yhis answer comes from your doc. b/c of the break --some it's okau with some not-------very important question What are you doung tp prevent blood clots?????? has doc-----told you too do anything?????????? _sorru I should have brought this stuff up earlier. Lonher at compuyrt the better the focus. Corrected most typos.
Put silver nitrate on misbehaing spots on incision. Think I'm doing to type in all caps.
MPC good luck with new NP
HI Linda Missed you.
Joann did any of that help, course ot's on;y neem one dau,. It'll take at least two weeks to try every thing out.
Tes into the fire goes long appoiny, emts that on top of tha you geel like you didn't get anything out of them
Ji sheila, yes you are right abot thinking we are healed. See my etes are healed. Sheila to sheila Eyes ;less blurry-----That's a hoot--"See my etes are healed" Not

SAS... I keep elevating my foot everywhere I go!! Interestingly, it is NOT swollen. When it happened, I wrapped it up, kept elevating and icing it! When I returned home, despite it looking all bruised, there was no swelling. The doctors were very impressed at how I kept the swelling down. The problem that I have is that I have always had sensitive feet. I wear European shoes with orthotics. Both my upper and lower parts of my feet hurt because I have no fat in my feet. The foot that I broke was the better foot of the two. So now both feet ache and the broken foot aches and throbs! I am taking lots of ibuprofen... so that should prevent pain and clots. My problem now is by 2 pm my feet are finished and I am horizontal for the rest of the day. I usually take a three mile walk on most days. My body is stiff because I can't walk and I worry about getting sciatica.... VR is very cranky!

GOING TO WRITE IN CAPS UNTIL I CAN SEE
VR----TOTAL BUMMER., WHAT KIND OF DOC-----ORTHOPEDIST OT PODIATRIST.. THERE ARE ORTHOPEDIST THAT JUST SPECIALIZE IN FOOT AND ANKLE, BUT THEY'D BE IN BIG CENTERS WITH GROUP USUALLY THAT SPECIALIZES IN A BODY PART.THERE ARE THOSE THAT SNIFF THERE NOSES AT PODIATRISTS. THERE ARE GOOD ONES OUT THERE YOU JUST HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.
TRY DEEP HEAT ON THE GOOD FOOT, PERHAPS SOME FOOT MASSAGE
CAN'T DO IT FOR AWILE ON THE BAD BROKEN FOOT UNTIL WELL HEALED CUZ IT WILL PROMOTE SWELLING. MASSAGE WOULD MAKE BONES VERY UNHAPPY
iT'S SOUNDS LIKE FEET ARE ACTING IN "SYMPATHY' WITH EACH OTHER.

SAS. I WILL CAPITALIZE SO YOU CAN SEE BETTER. I RETURNED FROM TEXAS LATE ON FRIDAY AND COULDN'T SEE THE ORTHOPEDIST UNTIL MONDAY. INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE ER, ON SATURDAY I WENT TO THE FOOT DOCTOR. HE PUT ME IN A BOOT AND TOLD ME TO GO TO THE ORTHO ON MONDAY. ORTHO DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY EXCEPT "WE'LL X RAY AGAIN IN 4 WEEKS..". BOTH OF THEM SAID THEY THOUGHT 8 WEEKS IN THE BOOT. NEITHER WANTED TO CAST IT BECAUSE THEY WANTED IT TO BE AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE AND A CAST WOULD MAKE IT WOBBLE. THE ORTHO MENTIONED HE HOPES I WON'T NEED SURGERY, BUT IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL. WANTS TO SEE HOW I HEAL. I WAS CUTTING BACK ON THE IBUPROFEN, BUT I THINK I NEED TO UP IT. I AM GOING TO HEAD UP TO MY BED NOW AND GRAP THE HEATING PAD. I HOPE I CAN REST IT ON MY FOOT. MT FEET HURT SO MUCH I CAN BARELY PUT THE BLANKETS ON MY FEET. THE FUNNY THING IS WHEN IBWAKE UP IN THE MORNING, THE PAIN IS TOLERABLE. BY 2 PM, THE PAIN SWITCH TURNS ON AND I AM IN AGONY FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. RIGHT NOW MT FEET ARE ACHING, THROBBING AND BURNING. THANK GOODNESS IT'S ONLY A BROKEN FOOT AND WILL EVENTALLY GET BETTER.

Jo, continued from the tamoxifen thread: yes, I will toss most of my BC team in and we can all toast some marshmallows! And, yes, you should not lift that much weight yet!!!! I am getting more strength back in my arms very slowly, never did have great upper body strength, but getting to toss stuff onto the fire is a great way to build up muscles!
Getting ready to toss one of my students onto the fire.... no good deed ever goes unpunished: I tried to adjust the grades on their last exam by giving extra points across the board to shift the curve upward a little ... everyone was happy except a few who believed it wasn't fair for some reason ... it's enough to push me toward retiring next year - just not sure I want to deal with this much longer! Of course, the summer off may help my attitude, and the pay is nice.
SAS, so nice to see you here and know that you are making a little progress each day. Wishing you and VR relief from the foot/ankle issues soon!
madpeacock, DT, sheila, DEssa, badger, joan, and everyone else: let's link arms and sing a bawdy camp song tonight just for fun!0 -
SAS....THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!!!! I HAVE WRAPPED MY UNBROKEN BAD FOOT IN THE HEATING PAD AND MY FOOT IS FEELING BETTER! NOW I KNOW WHAT TO DO EACH DAY WHEN I ELEVATE! I WILL KEEP THE HEATING PAD CLOSE BY! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Sheila,
I think you hit on why I like the UWs....not sure I know the difference between half and full....but the full does poke and constrict a bit. I am right now switching it up as you said....camis, UWs, and non-UWs (only have one of those)....Glad it's still cold so I can layer the tops and wear whatever I want underneath. Not much problem right now, but the SNB area is pulling so tightly that I have to constantlly massage the muscle and stretch. I did not expect such things to get worse over time.
Sore arm to elbow too, but manageable.
Into the fire with papers to grade!

Now I know a few bawdy camp songs. Girl Scout camp for seven years AND a GS leader? Oh yeah, I have some songs...

Yeah, me too madpeacock.
"Goin' on a lion hunt..." Gosh, anyone know that one? LOVED that one - involved lots of acting and silliness.

Wellll....the liquor was spilt on the barroom floor and the bar was closed for the night.
And the little brown mouse came out of his house and sat in the pale moonlight.
Welll...he lapped up the liquor on the barroom floor and on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar, "Bring on the pussy cat!"
Well....the pussy cat came 'bout half past four and ate up the poor little mouse.
And the moral of this story isssssss......
Never take a drink on the house! HIC - meow.

"LIttle bunny foo-foo, hopping through the forest..."
Try to get THAT one out of your head! LOL!!!

"Scooping up the field mice, and bopping them on the head"

Do your boobs (ears) hang low, do they wobble to and fro,
Can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow,
Can you throw 'em o'er your shoulder like a Continental soldier,
Do your ears (boobs) hang low?
Love to bop them micies on the heat, too!0 -
I'll have to ask my daughter - she has gone to GS camp the last couple of summers and has some new songs. Then again, they still sing some of the same ones when I went *ahem * a "few" years ago...Cool thing she is going to the same camp I went to and sleeping in the same tents.0

Joan --talk to Whippetmom in "Sizing 101." Find her by members list. Full underwires shouldn't be worn for aby length of rime.. She is such a pro on this, I'd get a 2nd opinion from her.
VR---glad that helped rhe good foot Thanks to for the large type. Focusing , goes in and out. What i have concern is that your docs didn't want to take an xray when you are complaining of uncontrolled pain. I think I'd push the issue. Xrays are cheap, correction isn't.You may of had a change that's correctable now , but not in 4 weeks. Who wamts to hear well if we had done an xeay before this, but now it can't be changed. The symptoms I don't like hearing are "burning, aching and throbbing" Yes they are related to position. When you awake they have been eother elevated or at least flat. By 2pm you have been up on them for x number of hours. All 3 symptoms are related to being up on your feet. Even if your sit at a desk with the feet up , they are only at a 45 degree angle. The key is to be flat with them elevated above heart level. If there is a way at work to get a couple of half hour time periods during the morning or spend your lunch with both legs elevated above the heart. Support the knee too. otherwise you will end up with knee pain.
Don't overdue the NSAIDS---Ibuprofen being one of them. Too hard on the Kidney and liver. Guidelines on usuage recently reduced b/c of this.
ASk doc if doing isometrics with calf and femoral muscles of broken foot side okay. I t will do two things help to prevent blood clots and maintain tone of muscles. But make sure you get clearance first.
Foot pumps on unbroken side would be good >>>>Toes toward nose >>.stretching calf muscle and hamstring >>>then toe /foot in ballet point stretching lower lwg muscles and quads
((((((((hugs)))))))))))) pain sucks sheila
