Ducky... I agree.... Isn't it the strangest thing that the dishwasher is such an improvement over the old handwash and all that involved but yet, we all hate the dishwasher emptying!

Michelle- Funny story on your son's driving, maybe he was trying to show you rads was a piece of cake next to his driving LOL!

Laurie- I'm glad you liked the recipe, I' m going to make it next week, I will probably use coors light, since that's what kind of beer I like. I bought some bulbs at the craft store today, can't wait to color them saturday.

Carrie- worried about you and your mom. (((((Hugs))))

Funny story's on the dishwasher, my DH waits until I"m almost done and say's "Do need any help honey"  He means well haha!

Tonight DH and I went to safeway to shop, there were 3 teenagers ( 2 boy's 1 girl) probably in there late teens or early 20's they were standing in front of a item i wanted,  they were just talking so the girl says get out of her way, I said oh, your ok, thanks, and the one boy says yeah get out of the old lady's way dumb head! Every one at the same time (including me and DH) said OLD LADY! He quickly said I said older not old, you are older than me, we all laughed, but honestly I wanted to say you little F,,,ker!  Thought i looked pretty good until he said that LOL! Where are these kids manners these days!!!

That kid would have deserved it too!

So funny on the dishwasher, I guess we are all the same.  I hate emptying it.  And I am nuerotic about the way it is loaded.  I always rearrange it if someone puts something in the wrong spot.  I have no idea why I'm like that, I am not with anything else around the house.  All the different size spoons and forks all have a particular place.  It makes it go quickly when unloading, but I know I am using the time I'm saving on the unloading by rearranging the stuff, lol.  I also do the pots and pans by hand.  When we are out of glasses, it's time to run the dishwasher, usually every other day.  I wish I could get everyone to just use one glass per day, but haven't been able to.

I saw Jersey Boys and went to the Palm restaurant, a steak house for dinner with my sister last night.  Had filet mignon, first time in quite a while and it was really good.  And a delicious flourless chocolate cake for dessert.  But the highlight was the show, I've been wanting to see it and it was fantastic!  Oh What a Night!  LOL  (fyi that is one of the songs in the show, I guess if you have to explain a joke it wasn't that funny, or so I've been told)

Michelle- I wanted too, I put extra face cream on last night before i went to bed LOL! Hope your day goes smooth today!

Kay-mmmmm chocolate flourless cake. and I love filet mignon. LOL! I got the joke hehe!

Tonight after rads we are going to the Hilltop Steakhouse for dinner.  This is another flashback as we have been there a few times, decades ago.  And then they opened up one in Nashua but eventually it closed.  DH chose this, he really wants to go.  The place is like having dinner at the Ponderosa, very western, fake cows, etc.  Should be quite a trip!  I'll probably have a filet.

Took my mom to lunch today, then to Target to buy 4 Christmas cards - for her sisters, one for her brother's widow, and one for my bratty sister.  I had her sign them and address them, then I took them to the post office and they are on their way.  I'm such a good daughter...LOL!

Thanks everyone.  Mom is doing ok..cant get her out of ICU because her heart rate wont stabilize, so they give her meds and then she plummets.  Otherwise she is alert, oriented and very crabby (which means she is back to normal) haha.  We take bets on how long the nurses will tolerate her before they kick her out.  I am very fortunate to have two of my siblings close by and we are all sitting together, and sharing some of the driving (1 1/2 hrs away) and taking care of Dad. Tomorrow I am taking a day off, we have a Christmas party to attend.  I also have school work to caught up on.  Did I tell you guys I am back in school?  Changing careers since losing my job....not a sm feat at 53!

You guys are the best...and even if I am not posting, I am reading.

Made a big pot of goulash for us at home and my Dad, have not eaten at home all week.

    Carrie,

So glad to hear that your Mom came through her surgery fine!! Now have to get her in shape enough to come home.... Going by when my Dad was in the hospital last year, crabby = recovering! So all good there!

Congrats on going back to school!! I did the same when I lost my job at 41.... It was really hard but so rewarding!!! I got a chance to get to know and really connect with so many classmates who were not much older than my own kids as well as people who were older than I!

If you don't mind sharing, what are you studying? Wish you the best as you come to the end of tne semester!

So glad everything went well with your mom Carrie- and I am glad you checked in with us!  I've been watching for your post.  I hope she gains strength and can have a wonderful Christmas.  Also, glad that you have such great support with your siblings.  Siblings make things so much easier sometimes.  And I agree with everyone else- what are you studying to do?

Michelle- You are a good daughter!  Hope you enjoyed your steak dinner.

Kay- glad you had such a great night last night, sounds like so much fun!

By the end of the day I was tired so I made tacos for dinner.  The boys were thrilled and they each ate two so I was thrilled.  Yesterday we made sugar cookies which came out ok ,except for the fact that they are so ugly it looks like there was no parental involvement at all, lol!  Ohwell, they eat them and they had fun and thats what it's about.

    Bedo,

LOVE a good bowl of soup! I think I could eat soup every night if my family would let me get away with it! But they won't!

Tomorrow is our family Christmas get-together at my parents' house before they leave for Florida... In addition to an insane amount of finger foods, we have a couple of different pots of soup..... My contribution will be a cream of chicken soup! Just finished making it! It smells soooo good but since it is for tomorrow, we ordered pizza for tonight...lol

Soup does sound good. I think I've made homemade soup twice. Wish I were better at it.

Carrie, glad your mom came through surgery well. I hope she gets out of the icy soon too. She sounds like quite a character. She'll give those nurses a run for their money. And best wishes at school! Wish I had the nerve and gumption to go back. Can't wait to hear what you're studying.

Seaside- whats in your cream of chicken soup?  Sounds good and like something the boys would eat too.  I love soups.  Have fun at your family party tomorrow.  Love lots of finger foods- we now do the same on Christmas day at our house.  When I had my second son I decided to stop cooking "the dinner"  and instead make all sorts of random food.  Everyone has loved the switch including me!  It's easier and you can kind of clean as you go so less mess at the end.  I was told by my SIL to add pulled pork nachos to Christmas day after our creation on my sons birthday party.  I love that everyone has their favorite requests and actually asks me ahead of time if I could please make it.

Tomorrow night we are going to a Christmas party at the owner of my husbands company.  We are all actually friends and we look forward to it every year.  Lots of finger foods, she makes a ton and then people bring things as well.  I am going to bring the buffalo chicken dip.  My other SIL and her husband are coming over to do kid duty while we step out, yay!

Kay 1963 - Hooray for Jersey Boys.  One of the best shows I've ever seen.  Guess that dates me.  But oh well, I like Sound of Music & South Pacific and Aretha Frankin & Smokey Robinson.

Golden Grain Sour Dough with Havarti Cream cheese and Black Opal Shiraz for dinner.  Peppermint Bark for dessert.  Maybe too much wine but I'm determined to finish wrapping Christmas packages to mail.  Ready for bed.

Our drive tonight was easy, I was finished with my treatment about the time I was scheduled to begin, then we headed over to the Hilltop.  So two decades ago, this restaurant was the #3 volume steakhouse in the country.  Imagine our surprise when the parking lot was less than 1/4 full and half the restaurant was closed off.  Inside, nothing had changed except for the lack of people. Our steaks were pretty good but the rest of the food was mediocre at best, except for the baked onion soup which was quite delicious.  Bottom line - we won't be going back.  Anyone watch "Restaurant Impossible"?  This is one of those restaurants that Chef Robert Irvine needs to "fix" as time has not been kind to it.  And they have not kept up with the latest food trends.  So it was easy to see why there were so few customers.

Carrie - glad your mom is improving and your family can help.  So what are you studying???

I always do finger foods on New Year's Day.  Between football games and parades, who has time for a sit down meal?  We are going to my DD's for Christmas, actually spending the night Christmas Eve so we can watch the grandkids tear into their presents!  We've been with them every year since the first one was born!

Laurie - enjoy your night out tomorrow!

    8 down, 22 to go!

    Laurie,

I mostly follow this recipe.... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/cream-of-chicken-soup-recipe/index.html... For the cooked chicken I baked 4 boneless chicken breasts, seasoned with salt and pepper for roughly 30min at 350 degrees and then cut it into bite sized pieces..... But I was doubling the recipe... So maybe 2 breasts for a sungle recipe... You could also add more vegetables as you see fit!

I did think my broth might not have been quite up to par so added a generous tablespoon of Better Than Bouillion paste (available in the grocery soup aisle with the bouillion cubes).....

Also.... I boil up some noodles of the thick and hearty style on the side and stir them into the soup right before serving.... You don't need a ton but just enough to make it a stick to your ribs kind of dinner!

I'm new here, really lime the ideas. Tonight we had homemade cream of mushroom soup, and grilled cheese. I just baked some cookies, sure I got the dough from a package. Gave the kittens some nip and pounce treats. Everyones happy.

The steakhouse sounds good. I have enough weekend work to do just cleaning up. Should let the cooking be done out.

Welcome Liz- I ditto what Seaside said. I lived in paducah, ky for a couple of yeras, I met some of the best people there then any place i have ever been.

Went out tonight with our friends and we were the last to leave of our friends, my husbands jeep would not start, I could hear a clicking sound, I told my DH that it was the alarm, but noooooo he would not listen to me and went in the lounge and 3 guys came out to help, they all thought it was the battery, while they were all trying to get it started i went around to all the doors and put the key in and then went tryed the ignition and guess what it started. I'm not a mechanic but i knew what it was, why don't our men listen to us when we are right?

All the soups sound good, i'm thinking of making a Zucchini soup Sunday.

    Everyone have a great week-end !!!

Good Morning and welcome to Liz!  You have found one of the nicest groups of ladies on BCO!!!

Debbie - I SO hear you!!!  My DH, bless his heart, says "no" to me every time I try to tell him something (as in, that can't possibly be right).   It has become a family joke and we all (including the kids) call him "the party of no"!  At least we are keeping our sense of humor about it.  That reminds me, I need to get him a tshirt or something with this theme for Christmas.

I didn't mention this last night but this was so funny...I called Joycek when we were on our way back from dinner.  The restaurant is in Saugus, MA and we had worked our way back just a bit to Malden.  While we were talking DH decided that he wasn't quite sure how to get back to the highway.  Well, between comments from Joyce's DH, Joyce and me, we were all laughing hysterically.  My DH had pulled over to call up Mapquest on his iPhone and Joycek's DH said real men don't use a GPS, to which I responded that they all use it on a golf course.  Well, the conversation got downright hilarious from there.  I was in tears from laughing by the time we were done!  It turns out DH was going the right way and all was good.

Joyce - I think you are right, many people are probably scheduling surgery to get it in before the clock resets on deductibles.  I would think that the disruption of the holiday season would be a deterrent.  Who wants to be recuperating from a surgical procedure at Christmas?

Seaside - I've learned the trick of not adding noodles or any pasta into the soup until I am ready to serve it.  That way it doesn't get all "swollen" and mushy.  My favorite chicken soup recipe is a copycat recipe of Carrabba's Mama Mandola's Chicken Soup.

    http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/228/Carrabbas-Mama-Mandolas-Chic91044.shtml

When I have a cold, this is the one I crave.  With a whole chicken in the pot, it is very hearty.

    Enjoy your day, everyone!

Good Morning everyone,  The stories are hilarious...Men!  I like to keep all the times I was "right" in the back of my head for future reference.

Today is a friends christmas party for us to attend.... I am taking stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer, whatever is at the party will be our dinner.

I am keeping with my background in the medical field and learning billing and coding.  Looked for a stable field that is a desk job.  We have to learn anatomy and physiology  which is basically a review for me, but the insurance stuff is dry and boring and complicated!  All my classes are online, so its all done in my pajamas on my own time. This field now requires you to have an assoc degree and a state test certificate.  I like the challenge of learning new things. I just couldnt return to nursing, with all the lifting and running non-stop and the double shifts...it was killing me. and the stress probably didnt help my health any.

Happy weekend everyone.  I think some Liquid Wisdom wine is in order for tonight.
