Thank y’all for the birthday wishes.

Malleemiss251, Is kransky the same as keilbasa (Polish sausage)?

Today I had to drive north to the big hospital my local one is associated with. It was in the mid 70’s so a nearby restaurant let us eat outside on their patio, an unexpected bonus. Linner was fish and chips for DH and bang bang shrimp for me.

Lunch yesterday was Subway sandwiches. We each ate half of our half so we had the leftover quarters for the night meal. He had a helping of potato salad and I had a small bag of Zapp's potato chips.

Tonight will be the thawed pork chops I didn't cook last night.

My pork fried rice with fresh mushrooms & onion & garlic was delicious last night - even though I forgot to add the water chestnuts. There's enough for one more meal but I think I'll eat the last two hot dogs tonight. The hot dogs freeze well, but the buns are never the same, even after just being in the fridge.

I ordered some interesting food & drink mixes from HI for Christmas gifts. I'll have to share when they arrive.

@maggie15, I put kransky in the same type of sausage as Bratwurst - which I also love. Yesterday's lunch was a small chicken snitzel - very yummy.

Carole, Meals out are often too large to be consumed at the time but make good leftovers.

    Dinner tonight was chicken scarpariello.

We picked up burgers and fries after the wound care appointment about 3 pm. We were both hungry. So I had a small bag of Zapp's potato chips for dinner and dh had an egg salad plate with pickles and compari tomatoes.

The staff at the wound care clinic were nice but they didn't compare favorably to the wound care nurse in MN. The bare flesh places on dh's thigh that I had dressed looked much better so we'll probably tend to them ourselves and not keep the follow-up appointment. At least dh is in their computer records now if he should need to go back in the future.

Carole, Those expensive films and bandages make all the difference. When I was using those dressings for thermal burns the hospital burn center supplied them to patients free thanks to a charitable foundation set up for that purpose.

    Dinner tonight was stuffed peppers.

Tonight was good quality takeout pizza. Two small slices for me as I'm back on Weight Watchers. I really enjoyed them.

Tomorrow will be meatloaf, green beans and mashed potatoes. With the time change it will be dark when we eat and it seemed like a cozy menu plan.

I finally cooked the pork chops last night. I breaded them in Italian seasoned breadcrumbs and browned in a large skillet. We shared one and one was left over. Side was a nice romaine salad with favorite additions. DH is eating so much less than he once did so I'm having to cut back on the size of the salad. We also had applesauce with the pork chop.

Reader, I received a post card from WW yesterday. I'm a WW lifer but way over my registered goal weight. Are there still any meetings? I don't think we have them here. WW is strictly online. I used to enjoy the meetings because of the interaction with the other members.

Maggie, the wound care clinic wouldn't order any supplies for dh because he is getting home health. I think I mentioned that I spent $100 at Amazon buying the film and bandages to replace what I used. The company that produces the supplies was the company that created them originally. If you have a wound or burn, the products are worth the price.

    Eric, how is Daisy adjusting?

WW still has meetings, or at least I think they do..but they are all in "the big city" which about 150-200 miles distant which isn't very useful to Sharon. She's now lost over 40 pounds. I'm also losing weight, except when I'm on a warehouse deployment where I'm not in a hotel room with a kitchenette. Even running 30 miles a week can't "outpace" 3 restaurant meals a day. :-)

Daisy is now dog licensed and ID chipped in our names and has decided we're okay—she LOVES belly rubs. We're working on the "potty training" and we're making progress on that. Frankie has been giving her lots of examples of good behavior and he doesn't mind "the girl" as our walk time has gone way up. :-)

DH and I and 2 neighbor (good neighbors) friends went foraging for Chanterelle mushrooms. I'm using them in a pasta and beef sauce for tonight.

Carole, the pain meds really have a horrible side effect on appetite. I'm glad your DH can get around. You are such a good wife with your care and meals.

If you itemize medical on taxes, save your receipts for all the stuff you are spending (and travel time).

DH's labs were not the trend we hoped. I dread having to make new decisions. His PSA went up but slightly. NO doubt the onco will have an opinion on Tuesday…ugh…a doctor appointment AND the election. Glad I am going wine shopping tomorrow.

Reader, That’s a good menu for the first dark dinner hour. I liked the year we stayed on daylight savings time to conserve energy.

Eric, Sounds like Daisy has fit right into the family. She's a lucky dog.

Carole, Our local woodworking group held a show called "As the Wood Turns."

Wally, Sorry that your DH’s labs were not what you hoped for. Yum on the chanterelle mushrooms.

Dinner tonight was meatballs in Rao’s on spaghetti.

Wally, not good news on the labs trend. Hope it was a temporary blip. The mushroom harvesting sounds like fun. We don't benefit from doing a long tax form so I don't save receipts any more.

I cooked oven fried chicken thighs last night and mine was delicious. I browned the thighs first. The side was Bob's mashed potatoes. I think I'll use the two leftover thighs to make fried rice tonight.

Eric, give Sharon my congratulations on the weight loss. That's an awesome number of lbs.

Last night I made Campbells Chicken Divan, which is my favorite easy casserole. Tonight DH is making chicken soup with bow ties, perfect for temps in the 40’s, brrr.

    maggie15 Member Posts: 1,457

Illimae, I also love chicken divan but DH won’t eat broccoli and it’s not quite the same with asparagus. It’s definitely time for cold weather dishes.

Dinner tonight was angus strip steak, cauliflower and oven fries.

Carole there is a meeting but as Eric noted they are few and far between. I am also a "lifer" but accomplished that at 34 years old. Big difference trying to lose 30 years later. So I use the app right now.

So sorry Wally about the labs. Also hope its a blip.

Chicken divan of some sort appeals based on this discussion.

I didn't make the fried rice last night. Instead I combined leftover chicken, rigatoni, fresh spinach and a bottle of Rao's alfredo sauce for a delicious and non WW dish. Enough left over for another meal.

Yesterday DH commented that meatloaf would be good. So meatloaf is in the near future.

Today he has an appointment with the knee surgeon. The staples will likely be removed from his incision. Afterwards we will vote. Our only incentive is to be included in the popular vote.

  • maggie15
    maggie15 Member Posts: 1,457

Carole, Having the staples removed from your DH's knee is progress. The popular vote sends a message so voting just for that is worth it.

When voting today DH actually received two ballots stuck together. It was discovered when the ballot wouldn't feed into the optical scanner so he was given a new one and the two ballots (each filled in on only one side) were put in the irregularity pile.

Dinner tonight was skillet chicken in bacon and white wine sauce.

Dinner was a diner special. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green peas.

DH made enchiladas last night and tonight I made creamy broccoli soup with cheddar and a hunk of French bread for dipping. Tomorrow is the long drive for chemo, so we’ll pick up something on the way home. I’m not tired from last weeks brain radiation but am still taking it easy just because I feel like it.

We love "blue plate specials". Meatloaf and Bob's is a favorite.

Big lunch today so dinner was cream of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Good enough.

Carole - I hope DH got his staples out. I was lucky, I didn't have stitches or staples. They super glued me. My scar is barely visible.

Here's a hug for you Wally.

  • carolehalston
    carolehalston Member Posts: 8,283

Last night was the chicken rigatoni spinach dish. It was delicious once again.

DH did get the staples out. He will have a noticeable scar. But his recovery has made me a believer in the robotic surgery. This morning he wants to go the gym.

This is against the "rules," but we are suffering election depression. Hope sometimes seems elusive.

    eric95us Member Posts: 3,170

Carole. Good news about DH's improvement.

Wally, I hope DH's onco appointment went well.

'Mae…good on the not tired, but still taking it easy. :-)

Daisy (new) dog has not had an "accident" for about a week, so all is good there. Next week she goes back to get the 2nd wave of immunizations and Frankie needs several teeth extracted…all while I'm back east again for another warehouse rotation. I'll be back home the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Dinner tonight will likely be a rotisserie chicken done on the grill…vegetables and other side dishes to be decided. Fortunately it's something that won't require a lot of standing outside at the grill. Right now it's 32F/0C with a very light snow falling and a light breeze, but the snow isn't accumulating.

Carole, If your DH is concerned about a scar there is a product called Embrace scar therapy, silicon sheets which are worn over the scar for 10 days at a time (somewhat showerproof) starting about 6 weeks after suture removal. It is not cheap but worked very well for my thyroidectomy scar. I was fed up with people recoiling or asking who slashed my throat so I figured it was worth it. A scar on my knee wouldn't bother me but I don't wear shorts or short skirts any more. Chicken rigatoni spinach sounds like a dinner I'll have to try.

Illimae, Continue to take it easy. You'll think of something good to bring home for dinner.

Nance, Those "blue plate specials" are so good. Back in the day when people could come over for dinner those meals were popular with everyone.

Eric, What weather conditions shut your grill down? Looks like Sharon will have solo dog nursing duty.

Dinner tonight was hospital fare, a hamburger and fries for DH and a dish called antipasto chicken for me. The chicken breast was in a sauce made up of ingredients for an antipasto plate (provolone, salami, prosciutto, pickled veggies, marinated artichoke hearts, olives.) It was surprisingly good.

Had a long day into Port angeles (pick up an oil filter for the truck, Grocery Outlet wine sale and a buffet Asian lunch—it went down hill since our last trip there, pre-covid. Disappointed).

Made a salad for dinner as we were still full from lunch…so at least some veggies. I was shocked how salty food "on the outside" tasted compared to what I make; and I thought I was heavy handed with salt/soy.

Carole…you are not alone. PM me if you need to vent. I cried, my sister was unsympathetic and said some unkind things to me….we are twins but very different.
Onion juice (it is sold with some moisturizing things too) will heal scars quickly too. I used silicone patches on my mastectomy scars and my surgeon was shocked that the area that is never going to heal, did.

DH's PSA is going up so we are waiting one more month to see if it was a "rebound" or if the trend is ugly. Still, only 4.9 today and prior, 10,000+ so less fear but unhappy with having to find new stuff. He's actually contacting the Pluvicto radiologist, which is unsettling. His cancer has some mutations, so he may be able to use PARP inhibitors. Hate seeing him worry; hate ME being worried; hate cancer.

Love wine and am enjoying some…sorry, not the drink thread.

Mae - glad you are treating yourself gently. Hope your 'beach bar' is still warm enough to enjoy.

Eric - 32 degrees??? We're still trying to get below 80. Good luck back East. How often are you deployed?

Wally - I'm with you & Carole. Nuff said. Glad the docs feel it's safe to wait another month to re-test PSA. Fingers crossed.

We can certainly share what we drink here. Especially since most of it is before or after or with food. It's been too hot for me to really enjoy red wine - but I have a good supply in the 'cellar' as fall gets closer. (Cellar being the kitchen under the buffet since Houston has no basements) It's getting closer to the time to switch from my summer Gin & Tonics to my winter drink - Bourbon & water. I'm enjoying sipping a shot of Tuaca every night before bed. (delicious Italian Brandy)

Went to lunch today with my ex-DH for delicious pulled pork BBQ at a local family restaurant. Went to a Public Safety Town Hall tonight sponsored by our City Council representative to meet the new police chief, fire chief and head of public safety. Buffet was dinner served by the SAME restaurant. I rarely eat meat more than once a week and this was twice a day. For desert they served a bundtlette from "Nothing Bundt Cakes". A new store just opened less than a mile away. Dangerous.

Wally, I forgot that your sister is a twin. Glad you two are talking again, even if disagreeing on some things.

Dinner was a meatloaf repeat last night but with mac and cheese instead of mashed potatoes.

DH drove himself to the outpatient center this morning for blood work. I'm amazed and appreciative of his recovery. The walker sits in a corner, unused.

Dinner tonight is undecided. Maybe homemade pizza.

Minus, earlier in the week we had a day in the mid 40’s with howling winds. I had the bar up to 76 degrees and enjoyed some wine and cheese while finishing a mystery book in audible. It was lovely.

  • eric95us
    eric95us Member Posts: 3,170

Rain or heavy snow will stop the grilling. For a chicken on a rotisserie, I don't need to stand out there for very long, so cold isn't a problem.

The deployment frequency varies a lot. Some years, not at all. Some years I'm not at the warehouse but in the field several times in a year. Some years I'm at the warehouse just once, or like this year…a lot. :-)
