AhHa! Thanks Michelle. The problem is that I do almost exclusively use my ipad at home and rarely even turn my home computer on (which is a laptop set up with a big screen and separate keyboard, which I loved prior to getting the ipad), so that's why trying to post here from my ipad has not been successful. It doesn't work! Wonder why? I will be better about turning on and using my computer so I can try this. Tho Not sure I want to post all my food items on my facebook page, but I suppose I can easily erase them after? Maybe I'll start a Picasa acct. just for this.....and for all the photos I take of friends with promises to send them....and never get to! A too long response to say "Thank you"!

Kaara- Have a fun day with your jewelery party and theater musical sounds like fun!

Michelle- Can you post the recipe for the quiche, it looks amazing! Did you make your own crust? I made a chocolate pie the other night, the pudding itself was delicious but the crust came out tasting like cardboard. I pride myself being a good cook and pastries too, but in all the years i have attempted pie crusts they always come out bad- And i have tried tons!

Laurie-  Glad you got out last night, you have had some stressful stuff going on lately, you deserved those margarittas! I know that foggy feeling lol!

Lacey- Every since I got a new computer last year I havnt been able to post pictures, every once in awhile I do but never know how I did it. Its frustrating though I know!

Debbie - I never make my own crust unless it's something that can be just pressed into the pie plate.  I gave up on that when Pillsbury came out with really good refrigerated pie crusts, already rolled out and ready to use!  Here's a link to the recipe I used:

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quiche-Lorraine-I/

I didn't have enough Swiss cheese so I used some 3 year old cheddar.  And lots of it - maybe two cups in all instead of the one it calls for.  No regrets!!!  And I didn't have 12 slices of bacon available so I used what I had.  That would be almost a pound, and I'll bet that would make it even better.  I also think that ham would work nicely.

Laurie - glad you got out last night, greaet stress relief!

Lacey - with the iPad, I noticed that the BCO text box doesn't have any formatting icons, I don't know why unless the Safari browser is a "mini" version.  I use it on Blogger and don't have a problem there, so maybe it's a BCO programming issue.

Will be thinking about you tomorrow for your appt. Hope all goes well.

Apple- Havnt heard from you in awhile, hope your feeling ok!

debbie, have you tried using lard for the crust?  For the recipe I use the one that came with the food processor for portions for fat, flour and water but add a pinch more salt.  Follow the method from the recipe but stop adding water and processing just as it starts to form a ball.  Then I dump it on my work surface and shape it into a square, pressing down lightly, cut in half and using a pancake turner stack, press down lightly and repeat a couple of times.  Cover and let rest, roll out as usual.  I never press down on the rolling pin but let the weight of the pin do the work.

I've made several varieties of quiche but the favorites seem to be  steamed broccoli, bacon and cheddar, and sweated onion, bacon and Swiss.

Michelle - i like the way you cook.

Lacey  - if you are on Facebook.. you simply make a picture full size, COPY and then PASTE it into the BCO reply box.

It's a little more complicated if you use this forum's software.  you have to host the picture elsewhere (like photobucket) and then paste the URL - the address, not the IMG link into the top box.. you then click on the dimension box and they automatically appear.. then just hit INSERT.. voila

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Apple is correct - I copied the quiche picture after I uploaded it onto Facebook.  But that process still doesn't work with an iPad, unfortunately.

Debbie - thanks, my PET/CT scan is Friday, so I get to think about it all week!  But I'm busy - babysitting the grandkids until tomorrow night, then getting my hair colored on Wednesday.  So I am ok with the waiting.  At this point, I really don't want to know the results until next Monday.  And if it weren't so far away, I'd wait until I get back from Paris to hear the results.  I'm doing a good job of sticking my head in the sand right now!!!

Chabba - a long time ago, a friend of mine told me I could make a piecrust using lard, that it was failsafe. Well, I went to her house, we made the dough and then I tried to roll it out, and the trouble began. It wasn't so failsafe after all...lol! So I just don't frustrate myself and mess up my kitchen any more, I just go with Pillsbury!  They've gotten much better over the years - the one today baked up all nice and crispy, even in the middle.   I'd rather spend my energy on the filling!

Chabba- I havnt used lard in ages but maybe next time i will try it that way. I did use my food processor then transfered it to a bowl, then added the ice water until it formed a ball, scooped it up and flattened it, wrapped it in plastic wrap and chilled for 2 hours. It looked and felt good but sure didnt taste good after i baked it. I scapped off all the chocolate pudding and tossed the crust. Some people just dont have that White thumb. lol! I do have a recipe for a no fail crust that you just press in the plate its a macademia nut crust with a pinapple filling, I had forgotton about it until Michelle mentioned she has one she presses. I will go through my recipes and find it and post it here, It was in the hawaiian newpaper years ago i clipped it and made it several times it was so delicious.

Michelle- Oh, for some reason I thought it was Monday! Why do things have to take so darn long.

I didnt feel like going to the store for the crust for the quiche, so made a hashbrown crust instead, I didnt have swiss so made it with jack and cheddar. not exactly the same quiche but it smells amazing cooking.

Hi everyone! I am back at work full time and haven't been on in a while. Work just sucks all my free time away. I don't know what I've missed. Please let me know if anything. I did read about your tests on facebook Michele. I just had a scare with a liver function test, but everything checked out okay. Hope you get great results and can go to Paris and really celebrate them. I will be thinking of you.

Made a roast beef the way Michelle posted a few weeks ago. Set the temp at 500, immediately turned down to 475 and left it there for 7 minutes per pound, then let it sit in the oven for 2 and a half hours. No peeking! It came out great! I even made corn on the cob and steamed broccoli with it like you have in your picture. And a baguette. My DH has reached his weight goal. He has lost over 40 pounds. We are going to DQ to celebrate. Have a great night everyone.

Woohoo, Kay!  Glad your liver function is OK, and congrats to your DH.  I wish mine would keep his end of our bargain (from when I started chemo...he's supposed to take better care of himself).  He needs to lose 50 pounds.  He did it once before and looked and felt fabulous.

    Michelle,

I know, for me, the more time that passes the less I want to hear the results.... Where I used to want to know by Friday now I hope they don't call so I can enjoy my weekend before having to deal....

Hoping that this is all a false positive that the test is so well known for! I can't offer anything other than a virtual hand to hold yours, a shoulder to cry on while you wait, should you need it, and a heart that cares....

Enjoy your DD's graduation this weekend! Congrat to her!!! Is this the one who earned her CPA?

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Seaside - thanks so much!  I'm doing OK thanks to everyone here and knowing well that it could easily be a false positive.  I absolutely hear you about not knowing...ignorance is bliss, at least for a while.  My DD got her degree in Accounting, no CPA yet although she will start prepping as soon as we return from Paris.  Her company has some nice incentives, including refunding most of the cost, and the state is changing some requirements in the next couple of years.  So she is going to get it done as soon as she can.  It also makes sense so she doesn't forget the stuff she doesn't use every day.

It's 8:20, the grandkids are all bathed or showered and in bed, the dinner dishes are done, and DH is ready to go home.  I'll be on my own in the morning with the crew, but that won't be too bad.  I handle this gang pretty well, all things considered!  The hardest thing is figuring out their techie tv system - no cable but EyeTV, Netflix and lots of recordings, all driven by a MAC system that tends to flake out from time to time.  I might just turn it off and go upstairs.  The tv in the guestroom is direct connected to basic tv - which will suffice for a couple of days.

Apple, Merci! With the help from you and Michelle I will master this picture posting business. Have to turn on my laptop! :) Went to try it earlier and just then DS1 called to skype with DGS. So sweet !

Then on to make dinner in a hurry...DH was out cutting our hedge for hours so very hungry and had a finance meeting at church. No fresh protein available and no energy to head to the store so used Trader's Frozen gorgonzola chicken breast dinner (bad reviews from this couple who hated how incredibly salty it was), couscous with red onion and mushrooms (made that with no salt at all, so a mouthful of that and the chicken "almost" evened things out. :) Also made carrots with tarragon, and (some of you can guess) kale salad, with Greek dressing this time.

Now the Celts have me captivated... They are having a heyday!

Galsal, welcome! And I loved the blend of the wraps followed by cheesecake!

Have a great week everyone... Appreciating the sand dwelling with you, Michelle.

Michelle, had to smile at your description of the TV technology challenge.....most days I can turn our TV on....but as soon as it does not cooperate, I need a course...provided by DH who is better at bothering to commit the alternative formats to memory than I. Now visiting either of our sons' homes provides a real challenge for us both to turn on any media. Hope the basic TV works well!

Lacey - yup, I'm upstairs and the tv works just fine, woohoo!  I don't have a problem with our tv at home, and I can switch to the internet functions (like Pandora) which requires me to turn off the receiver and turn the tv audio back on.  But this system here is so convoluted, even my daughter is frustrated by it.  The good news is that there's not much I cared about watching tonight.  It's tomorrow night - The Voice and Smash, gotta watch those two.  And I like a little tv during the day (love The Chew).  I just want the damn thing to work and not have to completely reboot the computer that is running the system.

We have a Logitech remote at home.  It's completely programmable and set up so that if you want to watch tv, you press the "watch tv" button, and all the right components come on.  If they don't for some reason,  you press the "help" button and it checks each component until everything is set up correctly.  Worth every penny!!!

Michelle, yours sounds like a dream system to me......we may have to look into that!

Laurie, I got The Big C from the library and started the 1st season this weekend. Love Laura Linney!

Having a hard time giving up my weekend to return to the rigors of work...but better get some rest to face it. The darn sore throat is still with me....so talking my way through tomorrow will be no fun. Maybe some sleep and more gargling will give it a final chase. :)

Kay- Im glad your liver functions were good. Congrats on DH losing his weight goal. Me and DH both need to lose weight, last year we both lost weight and felt good, this year all i wanna do is eat. Every time i say the word diet i eat more. Arghhh!

It was nice having the whole day and evening to myself, i cleaned all day, did laundry, mopped, waxed, did windows, washed curtains and blankets cleaned both bathrooms. vacuumed. Cleaned out the fridge. I didnt answer the phone and put some music on, i actually enjoyed my own company tonight lol! Dh gets home late tomorrow, i will be ready for him to be home by then, but for now having some hot cocoa and popcorn watching Desperate housewives.  Michelle, I love Smash, its my new favorite!

Kay...ditto on the good liver function.  I had a bad test as well and when it was repeated it was fine...that can really scare you!

Michelle:  I'm sure your scan will be fine..my MO says those tests are unreliable which is why he doesn't do them on a routine basis.  You should be thinking only of that lovely upcoming Paris trip.

Debbie:  I just love being home alone for a few days when BF takes a business trip.  I can watch any TV program I want (we only have one TV in the house here in Fl) eat what I want, go where I want, etc. If you want to lose weight fast, just give up white carbs and sugar...weight will drop like a stone..it did for me and I wasn't even trying to lose weight.

Now the latest..our DIL in Colorado is marketing some kind of detox wrap that makes you lose inches.  I tell you, these multilevel marketing schemes that our kids are getting into are costing me money!  I have vitamins, cleaning products, a facial spa, and now body wraps...when will it end.  I feel I have to support their efforts, but please!

Happy Monday everyone...time for me to go to my workout!

Kaara- Thats exactly what we did to lose weight, we did a low carb and protien diet not the healthies probably but we lost 5 pds a week. I was down to a size 6. But i actually felt good. Think I will start it again next week after Mothers day, my dad and his wife are coming next friday and all we do is eat!  Funny story on the wraps- Well. at least they are motivative and adventurous and wanting to make money, LOL!

Gonna be a beautiful day today, may go walk on the beach they are putting out glass globes that they hide along the beach they are so beautiful and expensive to buy.

    congratulations on your liver Kay

(when was the last time anyone had liver and onions with bacon?) .. years for me.. Not something one can eat a lot of but it is pretty good with enough bacon.

i used to make an awesome chicken liver pate.. maybe that's what I'll take to the mother's day dinner that is next week, that i went to last nite.

I love liver...chicken livers, calves liver, but haven't had it in a long time.  I really love those chicken livers wrapped in bacon and broiled...yummy!  Even my son didn't know he was eating liver...hehe!  Wish I had some right now.  Actually, Dr. Mercola says it isn't too bad for you as long as it comes from a grass fed calf or chicken.

Sorry Apple, its one thing i could never eat, yuckkk! even hated the smell of it. My top foods i hate, liver, escargo. kidney, tongue and anchovies, ohh and caviar.

One thing i was never a fan of was oysters until recently though, now i love them as long as they are the little baby ones. (shooters) with cocktail sauce and beer, yummmm!

Haha Debbie!  My Mother taught me to never say "I don't like that!" when I was a child guest.  Instead I was to say, "I don't care for such and such " When I really wanted to say, " I hate that! " I am having watermelon for dinner.  "I don't care to make dinner tonight" Haha

I worked on my organic plot at the community garden yesterday, my daughter helped as well as a guy friend.  We have sugar snap peas mesclum arugula, white radishes. herbs, chamomile green onions (seeds) and some starts purple tomatoes, purple cabbage, brussle sprouts, garlic, and kale.  I will have to give up my workouts for now, I so much enjoy my garden and violin more and I am tired from work. So I will put it on hold.  I read this thread every night but have been too tired to post.

So  I still think of you all every day, even if I'm not always here.

Here's a nice recipe from Whole Foods. Warm Barley Salad with Veggies and Lemon Tahini Yougurt Dressing.

2 C hulled barley. 4 C Vegetable Broth, 2 and 1/2 C H2O, 3 TBS lemon juice, 1 TBS lemon zest, 2 TBS fresh parsley, minced, 2 TBS fresh mint, minced, 2 TBS sesame tahini, 1/4 C Greek yogurt, 1/4 C olive oil, 3/4 C feta crumbles , 15 Oz Garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed, 2 C Frozen Sugar Snap Peas or frozen peas, 1 Lg cucumber, 1 C halved cherry tomatoes, 4 scallions, thinly sliced, Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Rinse Barley, place in saucepan with vegetable broth and water. Bring to boil cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for 90minutes. Allow to cool.

Whisk together lemon juice, zest, parsley, mint, tahini, and yogurt. Drizzle in olive oil and whisk until combined and creamy.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix cooked barley with dressing.  Add Feta, beans, peas, cucumber, tomatoes and scallions.  Season to tates with salt and pepper. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

    Apple,

DH and I like liver and onions but it would be a really tough sell to my kids so I tend not to make it...

There is a diner here that does it really well, so we go there when we need a 'fix' but haven't ordered it in a really long time.

Last time I bought chicken livers at the market the teenager that was ringing me out asked if I was buying them for my cat. When I responded that it wasn't for my cat it was for dinner, the poor girl looked like she wanted to hurl!

My recent blood work showed a low red cell count.... Maybe some liver will help!

Love chicken livers fried but haven't eaten them in ages.  Like calves liver, too, but haven't eaten it in years.  Many years ago when DH and I lived on a sailboat, we had a pressure cooker and I cooked tongue.  It was gross looking but tasted really good sliced thin and eaten on sandwiches with horseradish.  We ate really cheap in those days.  Don't gag, but I also like chicken gizzards!

    SeasideMemories Member Posts: 2,462

Lol... Carole!! My Mom used to fix Creamed Gizzards and serve them over toast! My Dad and I ate it but it was PB and J's for my siblings.... lol.... Then again, I can remember my Dad frying up Scrapple.... Never did try that!
