Last night was steamed broccoli with lemon juice and frozen French fries.  It was a surprisingly delicious meal!

Tonight was leftover broccoli and a salad of spring mix, spinach, avocado with papaya poppyseed dressing.  I'm still a bit peckish so I might have some popcorn, too.

    Bedo,

Enjoy your garden! I was going to start one the year I was diagnosed so it got put on hold....

The following year we put in a 4x16 plot.... Had varying degrees of success but learning lots each year! Snap and Snow Peas doing well so far... Spinach, radishes and beets popping up now.... Tomatoes going in in the next week or so followed by beans and squash....

Seaside, DH and I tried scrapple one year when we were travelling in PA.  We didn't like it.  It was greasy and not really tasty.  My mother loves hog head cheese, which country people used to make when they butchered hogs.  You talk about a grisly process, making the head cheese.  You can buy it in the supermarkets here in south Louisiana.    One of the few foods DH refuses to eat is pickled pigs feet.  There's not much of a pig that goes to waste.

Both DH (from IL) and I (from LA) were served veal brains with scrambled eggs by our mothers when we were growing up.

    Cottontail,

We did a Chicken Broccoli stir fry... Heavy on the broccoli! It was really good! A bowl of popcorn really does sound good about now...lol!

Lol Carole.. The things we remember our parents making... Also remember my Uncles cooking eel on a grill set up in driveway.... I'm sure the neighbors thought they were nuts and they were probably right !! Yep on the pig.... Nothing goes to waste.... Even the ears are sold for dog treats!

ok, I am sorry but YUCK!  lol!  Listening to all the crazy organs you ladies eat and enjoy!!  Literally I sat here wrinkling my nose, I guess I am close minded.  Huh.

Today was fun.  We went to the pet store and visited the animals which the boys love and then went to a local farm that has ice cream.  I packed a picnic lunch for me and the boys and we visited the animals, had lunch and finished with ice cream, a dirt pile and trucks.  They were psyched.

We had steak, salad, corn and baked potatoes for dinner.  The salad was just a garden salad I made but I swear it was the best part.  I ate mine and the rest of DH's and even DS #1 asked to eat his brothers. It was nice to get outside for the day and enjoy the sun, it is supposed to rain again for the next couple of days.

Lol Laurie.... I think we did cross over to yuck-ville for many people.... But I did work chicken and broccoli into the conversation... So that's good, right??

Sorry - I have to agree with Debbie & Laurie.  My DH used to get his liver & onions at Luby's Cafeteria since I wouldn't have it in the house.  But then, neither would my Mother.

On a positive note, a friend introduced me to a wonderful thing yesterday.  Philadelphia Chocolate Indulgence Cream Cheese.   Comes in milk choc, dark choc & white choc.  Since we all know dark choc is good for us, I rushed out and bought two containers today.  Most times just one bite of chocolate would satisfy my craving.  Or I'll put it on crackers.  Or on a pound cake instead of icing. YUM!!  Let's not discuss calories.

calories.  I was so disappointed in myself today with the ice cream. We all had lunch, me too.  I got a kid size of death by chocolate and could not eat it.  I took about 4 bites and it was too rich.  I was full, what the hell is wrong with me? LOL!  When I was pregnant I used to beg DH to go get ice cream there and I would eat....every.....bite.

carole:  That's funny...now I remember my grandfather making calves brains with scrambled eggs for us.  We loved it, but I don't know if I would eat it now.  Also tongue that my DGM boiled and served.  I grew up in Houston, Texas and we ate all kind of stuff like that and didn't know the difference....thought everyone ate like that. What memories!

Kaara - I live in Houston but the only people I know who eat stuff like that come from the midwest and raised their own beef & chickens.  On the other hand, I didn't move here until 1973 & Houston's changed.  My grandpa used to make us bread & milk for supper in the days before processed cereal came in a box.  And we helped him make homemade root beer every summer.

My Dad taught me that if other people eat something we should at least be willing to try it.  I have fond memories of the summer Mom got her hands on a whole hog's head and I helped her make head cheese. We had the brains for dinner and everything else went into the pot.  It was so good.

I'm not much of a pickle eater but I always loved Mom's pickled pigs feet.  On the farm they always said the only part of a hog you couldn't use was the squeal.

Bedo- LOl! I was told that too when i was younger. So now new vocabulary is "Dont care for" and " Over beveraged haha! I have to tell you too that when you talked about gardening your "plot" in earlier posts i always thought you meant your grave. I wanted to ask but wasn't sure i should. Now i understan its a plot at a communtity garden. LOL! How does that work? do you rent it or what? Curious minds want to know!

Seaside- And carol- Gotta say, im not the least bit hungry now with all the talk about gizzards, tongue and brains Oh no!! lol!

Laurie- Im with you on that too. Yuck!!  Sounds like such a fun day you and your sons had, i miss my daughter when she was that young and did all those fun things. Enjoy them while there young it goes too fast!

Minustwo- Oh wished i didnt know about that chocolate cream cheese, and white chocolate too, im so buying that on my next shopping trip. Yummm!

Chabba- Too funny on the everything but the squeel. I just dont have the stomach for that kinds of stuff, in fact i have a very weak stomach, i gag at bugs and everyone knows while we are eating dinner or any food do not talk about gross stuff, my Dh will even change the tv if somthing gross comes on while we are eating, he knows me so well. LOL!

Dh just got home about an hour ago. Now i dont have to put the ironing board in front of my bedroom door for safety, im a big chicken! I figure if someone comes in my room while im sleeping then the ironing board will fall and wake me up, i would rather know it instead of seeing some crazy person in my face. haha! Do i sound crazy or what!

Apple:  Cute song..lol.  I like tabouli also and the other evening when we had dinner a a small mediterranean restaurant near our home, they made a dish that was just like tabouli only made with quinoa instead.  It was delicious.  We will definitely go back for more!

Laurie- I'm with you on the "yuck!" Of course, I'm vegetarian so I don't eat meat of any kind, but when I used to I would rather starve than eat feet, ears, tongue, or organs of any kind.

Is everyone else seeing a totally different format when you come to Discussion Forums?  It took me five minutes to find my favorite forums.

Yes Carol it looks so weird?  But mine popped right up on my favorites because that's where I had left it open I guess?

I just got back from my 6 month check up with the BS and she said everything looks good.  I am now only going to go once a year.

It is such a dreary day here.  The plan is to roast a chicken....so I guess I should go do that :)

I am writing this on my Android phone while the kids are having karate lessons. They did a big upgrade today and all the interfaces are different. I have managed to figure it all out but it is a bit strange at the moment. I guess we will all adapt...lol

Laurie, you are right...it is so gloomy today. Roast chicken sounds better than tacos. And woohoo on your good BS visit!

Debbie - I think you'd better get used to this layout...I'm pretty sure this is what we are stuck with.  And I am guessing you will have to log in most times.  I think they are trying to protect us a bit.

Found a good, easy, healthy recipe:  Chicken taco salad.

    1 lb ground chicken (i put it in the food processor); small onion, chopped; small red bell pepper, chopped;

jalapeno, minced (as much as you want for heat); EVOO to saute all that in; lots of chili powder and cumin, salt and pepper.  Add 1 can of rinced and drained red kidney beans.  Use choped romaine, taco mix, broken tortilla chips and mix some sour cream and salsa as dressing.   Tasty!

Apple, haha!  That is so funny!  It was the first time I laughed and felt really silly today.  Thank you!  I love that guy in the videos.  I love tabouli too  It was a great end to a not so great day.

Speaking of weird food, when I lived in Ga I would go to the farmer's market to the "inedible food isle" just for fun and gawk at the prairie oysters, the chicken feet, the cow's brains and other stuff.  When I went to the convience store I always wondered about those pickled eggs in a jar, who eats those?  And what about those red pig's feet?

Debbie, Now we will have to start a " my silly misunderstanding of posts" list ! My plot in the community garden is one of about 100. I pay $25 a year for it and will not let it go because there is a waiting list.  This will be my 3d year. Last year I gave it to charity 1/2 way through because I was diagnosed, but brought some veggies to my nurses.  The year before I had so many tomatoes, I couldn't give them away. I had those little yellow pear shaped ones my Mom grew.  The city supplies compost and water.  We use watering cans to conserve water and compost.  We have a bee hive and a chidren's garden area. It's organic and we help each other out, because some members are not able to do the heavy work, we have dinners with our veggies, donate some to charity each Thursday. and get along. So it's fun. Last year I apparently I grew some of the world's strongest catnip.  I swear, when I went back to store bought in the fall the cats were saying, bring us the good stuff, Mom! I also grew a 12 foot sunflower!  Sorry to carry on, I love my garden . It is good.

Cottontail broccoli and frozen fries sound goood!  I don't think I've ever bought frozen fries in my life, but with ketchup, your dinner sounds mighty tasty!

I actually am not minding the new format....mainly because I can now barely recall what the old one looked like. LOL!

Only kind of odd :) meat I ever had was sweet and sour tongue, made by a friend's wife. It tasted great (when I put the mental pic out of my mind), but I have never thought to try it again.....most of those other body parts kind of freak my sensory system out. We tend to be so conservative in this country. However, while not being a big liver fan, there was a great dish at Ciro's in P-town that I used to love....chicken livers wrapped in prosciutto, possibly with strips of veal in a wine sauce. Haven't eaten veal or liver for many years and just looked....no longer on the menu.....it was many years ago......

Celts just lost and now I'm sad i didn't just go to bed rather than stay up until the end of game and be exhausted tomorrow. 'Nite.....
