I love a juicy Prime Rib medium rare please, LOL

Tonite was take out, cheese steak sub that we split and a small cheese pizza with xtra sauce.  I'm full.  It's windy out side but it is a hot wind.  AC is on, we have one in the family room and one in the bedroom, it does a pretty good job although we do have a very small house.

Hmmm... how intersting, I just checked on this thread and it took me to Luv`s post with the picture of the balloons... how on earth did I miss that earlier.   I am so blaming chemo brain on that one.    Wow quite the finish to their ride eh - and now my question marks look like this É.

Oh! and I forgot to say - I generally use organic lamb mince for my stuffed peppers.

A bunch of friends of mine at work bought me a huge rose bush and a pink Hydrangea bush in sympathy of my Dad's death.  Tomorrow I will have to find a place to plant them.  Him and I have a green thumb and we love flowers, oh darn now I'm crying, it is weird how certain things can set you offCry

I am sorry, Deb. I hope that the bush comes to remind you of better times and the beauty of your relationship

We have a lot of drama around here too, apple. 2 cats, 1 dog the size of a cat, hissy fits, slapping of heads, fights for the lap, raised hair, the excitement never ends. Cats can be so dramatic.

    http://whattayagonnado.wordpress.com/2012/05/22/cats-are-so-dramatic/

Plus all the dating drama of 20 somethings, and working with basically all women

Luckily, my own personal summers and drama have gone away since stopping the arimidex on my own 3 days ago. Wondering how long I can go without it? Have 4 1/2 years left, but feel like myself again off it.

Apple:  Those steaks sound good...easy to do for a crowd.  I always season mine with garlic salt or montreal steak seasoning.  Take them off a little early and let them "rest" under foil as they will continue to cook to the right doneness.  You can always throw them back on if they're not done, but when overcooked, it's a problem.  If you use tongs and don't pierce them with a fork, they retain their juices better.

Laurie...glad you enjoyed lunc with your friend..have a great time at the lake.

Michelle:  Those hot air balloons looked like they came right down on top of houses....scary.

Tonight I made salmon with a thai chili sauce, mixed veggies, and fresh corn on the cob.

Busy group this weekend. Loved both stuffed pepper recipes.Haven't made them in years and I think I made mine with cooked rice which probably explains why the rice was always so bloated! :)

Michelle, we rarely take this trip when it is going to be super trafficy (like rush hour), but today we left home a bit late, close to 3PM and it took longer than usual.....usually exactly two hours door to door, sometimes a little less (when I'm gunning)and sometimes a little more....like today, an extra ten minutes with traffic on 128. Was really happy to enjoy a lovely breeze on our porch when we arrived, as it was sweltering when we left home. Sadly, in our rush to get out, DH neglected to pack his array of heart meds, so he is heading back down now to get them. I suspect he will not return until AM. I was exhausted after driving here...I am always the driver....keeps the peace. :) So I hope he makes it home safely.....

Oops, not so fast .....DH got on the highway and obviously decided he wasn't up for the trip....called the doc, (who was on the Cape) who called in his prescriptions to the local pharmacy. I'm glad he decided to do that. Oh sweet technology!

Debbie, the bean dip I had last night was a store bought, Helluva Good brand. But your question reminds me that I used to make a similar one years ago with sour cream, some salsa and a can of (I think) Frito Lay bean dip (more spicey than just regular refried beans in a can....I have not seen it for ages, but also have not looked:). I think it has lard in it, so we opted out some years ago? But this Helluva Good one is decent for a spicey sour cream bean dip. I really like their spicey jalopeno dip, and they used to have a clam dip I loved, but never see anymore. Only problem with these is that they are way fatty, so a rare indulge is more than enough.

Apple, I suspect about now you are all enjoying some tasty steaks. Nice brother, indeed!

I do hope you get some help with such a big crew visiting...and that it is great fun!

Laurie, have a great visit to the lake.....a good weekend for it!

I am having Edy's frozen strawberry fruit bars for dinner. 2 or 3. We'll see.  They took a long time to pick out and I had to prep them in the freezer because they partially thawed on the way home.  So it was quite a bit of work.

I may have a glass of white wine.  I wonder if I put the fruit bar in it if it would taste like a daiquiri?  I don't drink hard liquor, but I've had a strawberry daiquiri when I was younger.

Bedo - LOL, it would taste like Sangria, methinks!  And there's nothing wrong with Sangria!!!

OK, Ted was very, very funny!  Not an ounce of socially redeeming value...well, maybe a bit about friendship.  But funny lines enough that I would see it again because sometimes you were still laughing when the next funny line came along!  I don't smoke pot, but if I did, this is one of "those" movies...

Lacey - as I was reading about your DH forgetting his drugs, I had a thought that if the RXs were at a chain pharmacy, you could probably call a local one and get enough meds to make it through the weekend.  I'm glad he decided to call his doctor and pass on the long round trip!

Kaara - I think the balloons came down in the front yards or the road in front of the houses.  I'm going to have to walk around the lake when it's not 95 and see ... I think there is some open space right there.

Deb - the plants were very thoughtful gifts that will be beautiful reminders of your dad's love of greenery.

Apple - hope those steaks were delicious!

Speaking of delicious, I have to admit that the Texas Roadhouse steak was extremely good tonight - very, very tender!  Hard to beat $9.99 for steak, baked potato and caesar salad!  And mmmm to prime rib!  I admit it, I am a beef lover!

My Mom used to make the best stuffed peppers and cabbage.  The name of the stuffed cabbage was GOLUMPKI's.  She had a hard time pronouncing that, it sounded like she was saying Gawumpies. LOL

Golumpkis, polish cabbage rolls, my mom pronounced them Gah-womb-keys. That is the polish prononciation, and ours had a gravy sauce, not a tomato bases one.

Hi everyone, it's been a while. It seems everyone is in the summer mode and having fun, fun fun! WooHoo! Carrie, sorry about you sister though, but it does Sunday like she has caugh it early. I will be thinking of you and her and hoping for the best pissible news. I am back to work full time and it has seriously cut into my computer time. It feels good to catch up here. I've been busy outside work too. My DD had a big dance competition Memorial weekend, then her dance recital the next weekend, then her 8th grade graduation dance, then graduation. And we've been down the shore a few weekends. Also been going to some Phillies games. I love summer too. And got my port out 2 days ago. It feels so good tobe rid of that after a year and a half.

Bedo, sorry you're having a hard time with the arimidex. I am on tamoxifen and it made me so irritable, I was constantly sapping people's heads off. No one wanted to be around me. I started taking celexa, and it made a humongous difference. And it really diminishes the hot flashes too. Maybe you could get something to help. I hate taking a medication just to offset the side effects of another medication, but my onc insists it's important to take the tamoxifen.

I made some sautéed kale today with Bobby Flay's recipe. I added a teaspoon of red wine vinegar after sautéing with minced garlic and water for 5 minutes. It was pretty good. Kale was one veggie I just did not like, but it was good this way.

It's strange how some meds don't bother people, some have minimal SE and some just have to stop taking the med because of the SE.  I tolerated Arimidex very well until a year and a half ago then the joint and muscle pain started.  I will be done July 26th even if I have some left over, down the toilet they go.  I"M DONE!!!  Maybe I will lose more weight and be able to exercise without feeling like I was hit by a truck.

Tazzy- Chemo always made me forget things too i still do and blame it on chemo brain but it will get better.

I think i will read the rest tomorrow. good night everyuone

Kay  Welcome back we missed you!

Deb Love the idea of the plants, whenever you see them you will think of your dad {{{{HUGS}}}  Hydrangeas are my all time favorite!!  Everything is looking very dry and wilted here, we have not had a drop of rain in a very long time.

Thanks everyone on the stuffed peppers recipes...I like the idea of using a different pepper, green peppers have such a strong flavor. I will try to make these and see how it goes over with the DH.

Today we are doing a barbecue out on the water...because its too hot to come in to shore to eat. Everyone bringing stuff, the usual salads and stuff.  I am making deviled eggs, and we will grill hots and burgers.

Hope everyone is staying cool and having a great weekend.

Kay- Good to see you post here again,  sounds like you have been very busy. Woohoo on getting the port removed i remember how happy i was the day i got mine removed. I love Kale now more than i used to espcially baked.

Carrie- Have fun today i see everyone is having a heat wave over there and everywhere.(sounds like a song) Hope you stay cool.

Had such a great time last night my friend Janeen who sang at the casino joined us late at the Mist and sang with Bret the singer was a fun night but late and feeling the effects today. Going to watch her tonight but no drinking for me just soda or tea. It was HOT here today!  I refused to cooktonight, so we went out to a local hole in the wall restaurant.  We had fresh grilled mountain trout, a big salad from the salad bar and green beans.  Boy am I full!

Cleaned house today..did a ton of laundry and am beginning to pack for the trip to WI.  We're leaving Monday, so I'll be off the site for about 10 days...no access to a computer.  I'll miss everyone!

Nothing for dinner for us tonight. We ate a huge lunch complete with home made pie and we're still full.

We've been driving around in northeast Arizona this weekend. Pinetop, Lakeside, Alpine, Hawley Lake, Hanagan Meadow, Greer and Springerville were some of the names of the places. It's in the low 80F degree range where we are at and 111F in Phoenix.

Hawley Lake and Alpine are often the coldest spot in the lower 48 states, but because they are so high in elevation, "it doesn't count".

DH cooked baby back ribs for dinner tonight. We had fresh corn, potato salad and baked beans as accompaniments. Tomorrow I am trying my hand at beer can turkey. This bird has been squatting in my freezer since Thanksgiving, time to eat the thing. I bought some apple wood chips so I can add a little smoke. And I am going to use some of my daughter's hard apple cider as the beer. It's only 12 pounds so I think this will work. And I bought the fixings for a lemon blueberry trifle. I got the idea from Joyce's strawberry trifle, which is very yummy. Everything can be sugar-free...the angel food cake, instant lemon pudding and cool whip. I hope it turns out yummy!

Michelle:  The dinner sounds wonderful, and so does the dessert.

eric:  At 111 degrees I'd be getting out of town too!  Good that you have a place nearby to go.

We did drive 5-1/2 hours. We're lookimg for early retirement homes. So far the prices are not within range.... there are huge numbers of homes for sale, but very few actual sales.

We're looking at communities right now..some are to our liking, some are not. In November, when no one wants to come up to below freezing weather, we'll start looking at particular homes in the areas we feel "welcome" and maybe.....

I'm hoping to find a place that needs some work.

Actually we did eat dinner...a Jazz apple and a banana for me. Sharon and Chrissy (DD) had a frozen dinner cooked to perfection in the hotel room's microwave oven....

So good to hear from you Kay. I got a kick out of what I suspect is your IPad being devilish with your spelling! Congrats on the port removal, and being able to return to work. How nice to be able to enjoy all of those accomplishments and milestones of DD.

Yes, Debbie, that's the brand name...maybe it's just an East coast company? Not sure.

Have a fun and safe trip Kaara.

    Yea for your air-conditioner, Moonflwr!

We are lucky that even during heatwaves it is usually very sleepable here at the lake...requiring just a fan on some nights.....very different from home where we often need to rely on an air conditioner in the family room and bedroom to survive such heat waves

Tonight we had dinner at our good friends/neighbors. We frequently "pool our food" and eat together after boating or beaching. I was really tired today (damn!) so never made it to the beach but decided to surprise our friends with my version of the lamb burger that I had last weekend that was so tasty, since they love lamb. We were also going to have some other grilled meat, so I decided to go small and made burgers a bit larger than sliders. I mixed the ground lamb (yes, Laurie, it's tres cher!!) with minced garlic, rosemary (this is nuts, but I cut the rosemary "needles" into small pieces so no one chokes...at home I have rosemary powder which I'll use), and ground black pepper. We assembled the burgers with feta slices, lettuce and tomato. I forgot to bring the slices of red onion, but that was great on my lamb burger last week. They were a hit....they are just so more interesting than regular beef burgers....that is,, if you like lamb! :). We also had baked eggplant slices that were dusted with lemon pepper and parmesan, and sweet and sour cuke salad with tarragon.

I am up waaaaay too late...so off to get some shut eye.

In my quest for more calories, I tried to make a peach crumble yesterday with stevia. Yuck! It is inedible. I ate a portion around 5 and this nasty, weird aftertaste of the the stevia stayed with me till I fell asleep.

Everyone's dinner and outings sounds so good and fun. Kaara have a good trip and we will miss you too. Michelle- Didnt know they had lemon instant pudding that sounds yummy will have to look for it.

Lacey- Good catch on Kays post im surprised i didnt catch it. LOL! "Best pissable news" and "sapping peoples head off" LOL had me rolling. Your dinner sounds yummy and here is another thing i did not know they had was rosemary powder no one ever likes the hardness of the stems so usually leave it out but love it i guess i will have to go on a lemon pudding and rosemary powder hunt!Tongue out

My friend ended up being able to sing a pasty cline song tonight and got a standing ovation. The guy who was elvis did not do much for me, he was a little unprofessional the first song his mike wasnt working properly and yelled what the hell kind of mike they give me its not working and threw it in the trash, second song he said its too dam hot in here im sweating and then off the stage leaving everyone else on stage to sing which we didnt mind because Johnny cash's son came out a sang a few songs he was pretty good, then the introduction to elvis's entrance played over and over again until he finally showed up. Started out pretty rocky but all in all it was a good show.

Kay - yes, forgot to mention your return...nice to hear from you!  Congrats on the port removal - is that the FINAL procedure for you?  Or are you still working through the DIEP process?

Momine - I'm with you on Stevia - I don't like it in my coffee at all.  I find it works OK in things like lemonade - acidy things that can overpower the aftertaste.  I can't imagine baking with it.  I like Splenda for that purpose.

Debbie - I wasn't sure I'd find sugar-free lemon pudding.  I knew there was the regular stuff, but I really wanted the SF variety and sure enough it was right there with the vanilla and chocolate.  I need to keep that in mind.  My DH loves lemon meringue pie and I could make a sugar-free version using the lemon pudding and Splenda to sweeten the meringue.  They had banana, too!  Banana cream pie!  That would be more carby because of the bananas, but still better than the full-sugar version.

  • Momine
    Momine Member Posts: 2,845

Michelle, thanks, so it isn't just me. What is splenda? I am bummed though, because it otherwise worked beautifully. The topping was just oatmeal, slivered almonds, cinnamon and enough oil to "moisten" with stevia added. Had it been brown sugar instead, it would have been delicious.
