Eric.. this is for you.. Carl's friends.

this starter was really interesting.. i just kind of make my own now.  it was delish and particularly delicious if you let the bread work for 2 or 3 days.   it was pretty delicious, chewy and flavorful just with a local flour.  .. and in Kansas there are a lot of those.

it's really interesting to click on the phots and read about the different methods 'customers' have used.  pick a loaf, any loaf.

INTERESTING on the sour dough. Bedo your smelly belly Nelly is cute.

I did have my crab, and I also had a small filet. Yum. I also got the baked French onion soup. I always have a hard time choosing between the baked onion soup, and the hot Bacon salad. The only bad thing is we had no room for desert! LOL. My DH also had to finish the filet. I only ate a half roll and half baked potato, so except for the melted butter and lemon, it wasn't too bad for me.

Lacey - I'm looking forward to your recipe 'french bread recipe I got from the Boston Globe years ago.'

Muffin tin cooking - how long do you cook the meatloaves?  at 350 degrees?  Like the idea of scalloped potatoes in muffin tins.  Is that 20 min at 350 degrees also?  I always do "stuffin muffins" with sage or cornbread stuffing.

Tazzy - didn't your location used to say Kelowna?  My first grandmother-in-law lived on Lake Okanagan in Oroville, Wa.  Gorgeous country.  And by coincidence, my dad used to take my brothers & my son (no girls allowed) fishing every year & I'm pretty sure it was Kelowna. I'll have to email my son & see if he remembers.

I can't keep up while working every day, so hi to everyone else.  And I second - where's Laurie?  Maybe back at her friend's lake house.

Thanks.  I've bookmarked the page.  I haven't decided if I'll send of for starter or not.  I've never given it much thought, but I'm guessing that my kitchen is "loaded with 'things' from my starter"..and the two starters would eventually merge...then again, that may be exactly why I do that.

I do like the pictures and am wandering through the recipe pages...getting ideas...

This brings to mind a Mickey story and one that has me laughing out loud...even og it is being told in a "what's for dinner" post. (Mickey was my nickname for Denice..not sure how I came up with the nickname..but she loved it...)

Anyway, she was a biology major and was on her way to med school with a goal to become a pediatrician.  I was always very proud of my clean kitchen.  The rest of the house was typical college guy clean (in other words nothing obvious that was particularily deadly)...but the kitchen was absolutely spotless.  I'm still that way today.

So, Mickey walks in with a little kit of swabs for collecting samples of bacteria from surfaces.  Because of previous results, the school forbade the students from using the dorm kitchens for this lab experiment.  She knew that I kept my kitchen clean and was curious how clean it really was.

Well, when the results came back...she laughed and I was a bit "distressed".  It seems from a bacteria point of view, my kitchen sink was worse than my toilet's seat.

Apparently this was typical and was why the teacher would tell each semester's class that if space aliens came here and examined our houses, they would conclude the toilet was the dishwasher.

As an aside, I did get the kitchen cleaned up a lot "more better" by switching from using a dish rag to paper towels.  Now the sink was at least slightly better than the toilet seat.

Next time a Sharon story..I just found out we're leaving for the water park to cool down a bit...it's like 108F and it's 7:15 right now.

And finally...the two loaves of sourdough that I did today. I got one slice, Sharon got one slice..the dogs didn't get any...and when we got back from the store there was only one loaf...and a very full daughter.

Minus, I'll write myself a note to post that recipe for the french bread after I get home from the Cape, in a week. I think you'll enjoy it.

Finally, I got some fleurs planted in my deck boxes and pots, and the color is really uplifting!

Went to a local popular restaurant with DH and DS2, where DS2 noticed a new lobster sign while driving to our house (apparently lobsters are in great supply this year). They both scarfed down twin lobsters and I had sea scallops (prepared without all of their usual drenching butter and bread crumbs) which were wonderful. The veggie of the day was butternut squash, my favorite...so I was in heaven. It was the first time I have seen anyone eat boiled lobster with butternut squash....there were no complaints!

    Debbie,

If I had to guess I'm going to say it's the KY licence that they want. Typically, in NY anyway, when they issue you a NY license they collect your out of state license (or snip off part of it) since it is illegal (I think) to have valid licences from two different states simultaneously. Could that be it?

  • debbie6122
    debbie6122 Member Posts: 2,935

Seaside- Thinks for trying to help i wish that was what it is but unfortunately its not I gave it to them when I was there they put a hole in it and give it back to you. ;-((( So the saga continues until tomorrow when I can call and find out. How have you been I havnt seen you here in awhile? Staying cool I hope!

Last night i made some red pepper soup that turned out pretty good but kind of cheated what I did was bought Safeways  signature tomotoe bisque soup (freshly homemade) and then bought some roasted red peppers and pureed them up with some cream and added some oregono and old bay seasoning mixed with the tomoatoe soup almost as good as the one I had the at deli last week. Then made a roasted cheese sandwich with peppers and red onions on a hogie roll. Since DH is golfing the rest was breakfast this morning.

In Arizona, they take the old license before issuing a new one.  If you ask (I guess if you like the picture???) they'll punch a hole through the license number and give it back.

It's not dinner..but..another sourdough theme...  Whole wheat buttermilk sourdough pancakes....  Chrissy loves them....especially with some "sent from upstate New York" Maple Syrup. I made a batch this morning for everyone.

    The Sharon story.

Our old Jeep... It's a 1950 Willys CJ3A.  It has seat belts, but they are the manually adjusted kind....buckle up, cinch them up and then drive...nothing automatic about it....  Sharon loves to drive the Jeep when the weather is nice....imagine a convertable with no doors.  Anyway, like I said she loves driving the Jeep..except she was getting annoyed "with the seat belts".  I'd drive the Jeep, then we would switch off and she'd drive it awhile...Her annoyance was coming from her noticing that after I had been driving, she would have to LOOSEN the seat belts before she could buckle them.  It was the better part of a year before she caught me sneakily cinching up the belts as I was unbuckling them.

The other story, one that she likes a bit better.  This Jeep has a button on the floor that operates the starter.  To start the engine, you turn the ignition key to run and then push the starter button.  If you don't turn the key to "run", the engine cranks over, but it won't run.  She has the Jeep at work and is wanting to go get something to eat at lunch....crank, crank, crank, crank....  *$&*$)# old Jeeps. Get out, raise the hood, look at engine, realize the key wasn't "on"....wiggle some stuff around under the hood, lower the hood, get back in, turn the key...crank...run.....  A big smile to her co-workers looking out the office window at her and off she goes to lunch. She never did tell them....

She thinks its funny now, but at the time, I don't think she would have had to work to hard to be annoyed at me.....

Lacey- I can eat lobster with just about anything ha! Dh had been running a special at the casino for crabs but it is higher than lobster right now so replaced that special with  the lobster since its cheaper right now. Not a bad swap!

Hi everyone!  As usual everyone sounds like they have been busy!  I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and camping trips, trips to lakes etc.  The weather has been hot but nice.

I have just been busy keeping up with the house and the kids.  I went to the Dr this week for a sinus infection that has been dragging me down.  Who gets a sinus infection in the middle of summer?  I requested a referral to an ear nose and throat person as this is my 5th sinus infection since last October which seems a bit ridiculous.

So tomorrow I do waitressing again and on Tuesday, the back to back days should be interesting and exhausting.  Hopefully it doesn't prove to be too much for me.   But the money is much needed so I have high hopes.

Dinners have been simple lately.  Grilled chicken wraps, patty melts etc.  Last night we had my brother and girlfriend over with another couple and we sat pool side and played games and had Chinese food because no one felt like cooking.  It was a lot of fun and we laughed and laughed....the margaritas helped I think;)  The boys had a sleep over at my in laws.  They went over for 5 and we picked them up before 9 this morning, but at least it was a little break.

Boys just got up from a much needed nap, they were super cranky!  So we will go for a swim and hang outside for the afternoon.  Now to once again figure out whats for dinner?

Hi everyone.  Busy here too....Eric I like your stories.

Today we spread the ashes of our dear friend that lost his life to cancer, out on the lake.  We had four boats, and 6 jet skis filled with family and friends.  Did a memorial reading, music, lighting of candles and the release of balloons, very sad day. He was the one who would always diagnose and fix everyones jetski  we called him "the jetski gynecologist" My brother-in-law engraved a piston from a jetski and dropped it to the bottom of the lake.

My girlfriend made an observation that i agreed on   is that we have not a had a decent meal in weeks....just munching on apps and finger food, really need to sit down and have a planned dinner.

Has anyone tried the "limearitas" made by bud light in the small can?  MMMM poor over ice, so refreshing on a hot day

Carrie - My DH loves the Lime-A-Ritas.  I'm having a lemonade margarita out of the jug.  Pretty good but it has been oh so long since I had anything alcoholic.  Going to my head.  DH made BBQ chicken on the grill and I warmed up some frozen vegies.  He had enough briquets to cook 3 chickens and we only had 3 thighs/3 legs. LOL. Wish I could spring for a gas grill.  Don't know if I have the courage to fire it up though.  Edited to add that I am so sorry about your friend's passing.

    Aww Crap Debbie!

I was hoping that was a fairly easy explanation.... Give a call tomorrow and hopefully it is just a big old mistake.... I have had things happen before (why is it always on a Friday?) and I get myself all worked up over the weekend so by the time I call on Monday I am 'loaded for bear' only to find out it was nothing.... OK.. What am I supposed to do with all this pent up adrenaline now? LOL. I hope this too is nothing!

I have been around and reading daily but not posting as much! There is so much being shared here that I can't seem to keep up...lol But, I do read and think about you all every day.

    Eric,

Love your stories! Especially the seatbelt cinching one! hehehehe!

Hi everyone - back from a great weekend camping with good friends and good weather (finally).  All the aches I have now are worth it.  I love how food always tastes so much better when camping.

MinusTwo - yes my location used to say Kelowna.  Westbank (where I live) is about 20 minutes outside Kelowna so I just felt at the time I should correct it.   It sure is beautiful.   So many fishing lakes around - see if you can find out.

Deb - hope you sort out the driving licence fiasco.  Don't you find that anything to do with Government is normally the right hand not knowing what the left is doing?

Good luck tomorrow and Tuesday Laurie with the waitressing.   Sending you vibes for
    large tips.

To others I have missed hello - love all the bread recipes too.  Oh! and I agree on the lobster - good with anything.    DH & I were visiting South Africa and visited a place called Mossel Bay.   At a night time bbq (or Braai as they call them) on the beach one of the 'servers' asked everyone there if would like lobster - for those who said yes, all the 'servers' walked towards the water's edge and plucked the lobsters out of the sea and cooked them there and then.  There was no limit on the amount we could have as the beach was awash with them.  Quite an amazing sight.

Tonight's dinner is a mish mash of left over camping food (unfortunately no lobster) consisting of cheeses, deli meats, crackers, veggies and dip - DH at golf.

Debbie, I'm so disappointed that Seaside's explanation doesn't fly since I loved it!! :) You have me on the edge of my seat to learn the solved mystery!

Carrie, such an emotional day for sure. Sounds like a lovely memorial.

And hope you get to have a serious meal sometime soon!

    Laurie, sending lots of

positive energy to you to get through the next couple of work days. It's great that you have your pool to relax by as spontaneously as you wish!

We had a perfectly beautiful day here at Newfound, and feel very badly for all of those who are suffering with no electricity and extreme heat along some of the Mid Atlantic East Coast states. Hope you are doing okay, Kay, and are not affected by the electrical outages.

Got my best hummingbird feeders hung today, and the hummers are very happy. For dinner we ate pizza and Greek Salad on the porch (my favorite place since it is elevated, feels like a tree house) and watched all the hummingbirds revel in their new meal offerings.

Up early to head to the Cape.....

Hi everyone!  Hope everyone had a good weekend, mine was fantastic!  And I spent today shopping with my daughter then we went to see Magic Mike.  OK, I have to say, I didn't really care for it.  Not because I'm a prude (I read all the 50 Shades books Tongue out and I laughed my a$$ off during "Ted")...I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't "do it" for me or my daughter.  I think we both thought the story was lame.  But we had a great time shopping and got lots of good deals.  Then DH made grilled pizza for supper and we enjoyed a most spectacular sunset on the lake.

Carrie - that was a very fitting memorial service for your friend.  And I will have to try a Limarita.  DH bought the "19th Hole" beverage that is light beer, iced tea and lemon.  I tried it - not bad on ice but I'd rather just drink light lemonade, maybe with a little Absolut Citron or Mandarin.

Laurie - for sure, you need to be rid of these sinus infections.  I've never tried it, but you might check out a neti pot.  Some people swear by them.

Tomorrow I am checking out another assisted living facility for my mom, much closer than her current facility.  They say they want to work with us on the rate...I don't think she could afford to pay this place for more than 18 months.  She's 82 and may live to 90 if she follows her mom's path.

What a gorgeous picture, Michelle! We did a couple of pizza's on the grill as well but didn't have anywhere near that glorious sight to enjoy our dinner by!

    Lacey,

Seems like it was a pizza kind of night... lol! Enjoy your trip to the Cape!! As you can tell from my screen name, the ocean is my favorite place on the planet!!

Hi everyone! Boy, everyone is busy. Carrie, I am so sorry about your friend. That was a very fitting thing to do to honor her memory though. hugs.

Have a great time at te Cape Lacey. I have always wanted to go there. I hope to some day.

Good luck Deb and Laurie, I hope all goes well for both of you tomorrow.

I agree Eric, great story. You sound a lot like my brother. One time he set all my sister's radio stations to his country music station. Every time she tried pushing another button, it was just the same music playing. Maybe you had to be there, but it was a hoot.

Michelle, I love the sunset picture! Glad you had such a nice weekend.

We had a filet mignon roast fr dinner tonight. DH made it, and it came out perfectly. We had some corn on the cob and a salad with it. and some home made ice cream with caramel sauce and jimmies on it. One of the best meals we've had for quite a while. It really was Delish!

Finished herceptin three weeks ago and got my port out last week. This week I have a preop visit for nipple reconstruction, an appt. with the cardiologist and find out what I do with ythe herceptin heart damage going forward, and an appt. with the LE therapist. It feels like BC will never leave me alone. Two steps forward, one step back.

Lol. Moon.... My daughter and her friends went to their favorite Chinese Buffet restaurant tonight! So in addition to pizza night must be Chinese was in order as well.... Been awhile since we've had a Chinese dinner.....

    Kay,

So glad to hear from you!!! That dinner sounds soooo good and a BIG YAY on your "de-portation"!!!! That has to feel so much more comfortable! I am afraid that all of the never-ending doctor's appointments are just a part of our lives now but, how I wish we all could just take a bit of a break from them!

I hope that you all are getting out of the heat and that you are not in the area with extreme heat and no power!! This has been a very unusually warm winter, spring and, thus far, summer.......

  • Lacey12
    Lacey12 Member Posts: 2,895

Kay, good to hear from you! I think your Sunday night dinner definitely eclipses our pizza! Filet mignon roast?! To die for......:)

I hope you do get to the Cape. I am originally a Jersey Shore gal, so when I moved to Boston for grad school, my friends and I could not wait to drive to the Cape. Well, on first look I was underwhelmed.....where are the ferris wheels, the board walks, the gaming wheels, the wild mouse and other roller coasters??!! None of that stuff there...and I soon learned to appreciate the beautiful beaches, sanctuaries, restaurants and generally different character of Cape Cod. Our time share which we've had for over 30 years is on the edge of Provincetown, so we get lots of great food and colorful entertainment, and the beaches are to die for.....our yearly ocean fix! We keep talking about retiring there but have done nothing concrete about it.

Best to you, Kay, as you deal with the myriad of medical appts on your agenda this week I hope all goes well....will be sending positive thoughts for the best of outcomes. (((Hugs)))

Laurie- Hope you feel better and it does not drag you down while you are working, maybe its alergies? I have heard people that never had alergies before will end up with them. Glad you got a little time to yourselves. Bet those margarittas were good!

Seaside-Your right, im probably worrying about nothing (I hope) I try to remember what my mom use to say "Not everything is as it seems" But gotta admit it has my stomach in knotts.

Carrie- Sounds like a pretty rough day, I am so sorry! I have not heard of those limerittas but will look for them excited to try them now.

Luvmygoats-Sounds like you are having a great time! Take some tylenol before you go to bed. Hehe!

Tazzy- Just what you needed was a nice relaxing camping trip glad you had fun. Oohh i would lovec to go to Africa and not only visit but would love to have my lobster dinner that way yummm!

Lacey-Well, I will try to post tomorrow and let you know I am not in jail I dont want you falling off that seat of yours LOL! Have fun at the cape.

Michelle- Aw man what a bummer the movie was not that good. Darn. Good thing I am waiting until it comes to payperview i would hate to spend the money at the theater, they are so expensive. Beautiful picture fo the lake you should frame that it is stunning. Hope you find a nice place for your mom that is cost effective.

Kay- Sorry you are dealing with this crap i hope you get good news tomorrow will be thinking about you! (((hugs))

Dinner tonight was beef kielbasa with sweet peppers and onions and threw in a few peppadews for good measure. Had baked beans to go along with them. I sauted the red and yellow small sweet peppers with onions and garlic. boiled the keilbasa with water and beer then cut them up and browned them I put them on some great hogie rolls and some jack cheese soooo good. Instant lemon pudding for dessert. Originally I was going to make Michelles dessert with angel food cake but too hot to bake so had it alone with whop cream. Yummy!

    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Debbie - ah, the pre-made angel food cake works perfectly in my recipe.  No one will ever know the difference!

Kay - congrats on being finished!  We used to have an expression at wor...done, then finished, then complete!  You're heading towards complete!  And I am wishing nothing for the best of outcomes for your cardiac evaluation.

Lacey - I haven't been to P'town in 30 years, I really need to get myself to the cape this summer.  Have a great time!

Kay Congrats on completing the Herceptin! It will come to an end.  I am at the point where I see the onc every three months for two years...so glad to be to this point that I actually forget my appts and have to re-schedule. You will get there, too, but I know how hard it is.  mmmmm homemade ice cream?

Michelle  that is a beautiful picture of the lake. I like the sound of your lemonade drink.  I was in the liquor store buying a gift for a friends bday and was amazed at all the flavored alcohols.  My daughter laughed at me and said "geez, mom, when was the last time you were in a liquor store?" Chocolat whipped cream vodka?

Chicken ceasar salad for dinner tonight.

Hi everyone!  Just back from our trip to WI.  Boy was it HOT!  They had record temps of 106 and 108 while we were there.  Nothing much done outside...even on the 4th and many of the fireworks were cancelled due to dry conditions and concern of fire.  I spent a lot of time in the shopping malls, and we ate at a lot of greek diners.  My BF played cards with his 97 year old mother who beat him unmercifully!  He said it was the best $20 he ever invested to see her so happy!  She is sharp as a tack!  His sister was dx with small cell lung cancer last year, and she seems to be in remission at the moment.  She looked very good...I pray she has some quality time left.

Boy you ladies are really creative in the kitchen with all of your mini meals in the muffin tins..I'll have to invest in some as that is a great idea.  I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th, and that the weather in your area is cooler.  It was cooler here when we got back.  We encountered several bad accidents on the way home yesterday and it delayed our trip by about two hours.  One was a treck through the smokey mountains just outside of Knoxville when the main road to Asheville was completely blocked.  My BF called it "witness protection country", but I thought it was a beautiful area with lots of forest and a river running alongside the road.  Lots of white water rapids which I would like to experience at some time in the future...with a guide of course;)

Lots of stuff to do today...laundry, food shopping, yard work, etc.  My poor little flowers are drooping from no water:(

it's much cooler here now.. i won't have to spend too much time watering at all.. just the lilies

(prize winning lilies from my friend/breeder that i just have to save thru the summer.  They are planted in the wrong place and if i can make them last till early fall.. i'll be happy.  I've lost a few)
